salok mehlaa 1.

naa sat dukhee-aa naa sat sukhee-aa naa sat paanee jant fireh.

Guru Ji is listing the things people do to try and realise the Truth. Some undergo physical pain, whilst other revel in wordly pleasures and vices. I'm not sure about the water reference - something about oceanic beings not realising the Truth? Perhaps someone could elaborate.

naa sat moond mudaa-ee kaysee naa sat parhi-aa days fireh.

People shave their heads in many cultures, at birth or otherwise thinking it to be of spiritual significance. No-one ever realised the Truth in this way. Studying philosophy or other such books will not give us True understanding. Nor will travelling to far away places, expecting salvation to suddenly arrive out of the blue as a result.

naa sat rukhee birkhee pathar aap tachhaaveh dukh saheh.

We can't realise Maharaj by dwelling in jungles or forests, by placing our faith in stones (might be idols) or harming our bodies. Many sit in awkward postures, mutilating their bodies and expecting spiritual advancement.

naa sat hastee baDhay sangal naa sat gaa-ee ghaahu chareh.

Truth is not attained by tieing up our bodies just like elephants are used (in war etc) and are bound in ropes and chains. Truth cannot be attained by constantly eating, as cows continually chew on and digest grass.

jis hath siDh dayvai jay so-ee jis no day-ay tis aa-ay milai.

Akaal Purakh is the only One who can bestow the Truth on those who meditate lovingly on Naam. It is by His grace and blessing that we receive True understanding.

naanak taa ka-o milai vadaa-ee jis ghat bheetar sabad ravai.

Guru Ji tells that above mentioned practices are useless if you desire to know the Truth. Only those people are fortunately blessed, who instil value and love for Gurbani in their hearts.

sggs_002.jpg

sabh ghat mayray ha-o sabhnaa andar jisahi khu-aa-ee tis ka-un kahai.

All of us have been created by Maharaj, and Maharaj dwells in all our hearts. But what is the use in trying to explain this to someone who has been misled by Akaal Purakh Himself? In the bigger picture He controls everything, and some of us are not destined to understand this. Ultimately, Maharaj has all the power, we have nothing and cannot become more powerful than Him. At the end of the day, His Will dictates who will understand and who won't.

jisahi dikhaalaa vaatrhee tiseh bhulaavai ka-un.

At the same time, if someone has been blessed by their Guru then no-one apart from Maharaj can ever mislead them or tie them back down to the wrong path. No-one themself has the power to attack a Gurmukh. Doubts do not afflict that person, even when their faith is tested.

bundy%20woodland%20path.jpg

jisahi bhulaa-ee panDh sir tiseh dikhaavai ka-un.

It is very hard to lead a person onto the Truth Path of spirituality if they are destined for a different path. Essentially all power lies in Maharaj - that power can be channelled through various beings, but in the bigger picture He is pulling all the strings.

i think that guruji is using dukh, sukh, and creatures in water as examples only. saying that none of them are true. follow along the shabad and guruji puts forth more examples, and declares that all of them are false.
