^dont get that jio, please clarify

Nationality is define as:

a legal relationship involving allegiance on the part of an individual and usually protection on the part of the state b: membership in a particular nation

Source: Merriam Webster Dictionary

Example: I am from Canada. So this means that my nationality is Canadian.

My ethnic is Punjabi, but here in Canada, Punjabis and rest of desis are labeled as "east Indian". The term "Indian" isn't use to describe my heritage according to my passport. So if you want to get technical about it, then no, we are not Indian (unless we live in India).

ok so why when i am asked about my 'ethinic origin' when i apply for jobs etc am i asked if i'm indian....does that mean they askin where my rents or g'rents r from?

I thought "Asian" was the term to describe Indians and Pakistanis in UK, no?

I think most people here in the west assume "Indian" is a race instead of nationality. So when they ask you that question, they're asking if you're brown (asian) or not.
