I highly recommend that you consult a fertility specialist. They will assess the fertility of you and your partner. This involves finding out about the cause of the infertility, your cycles, and then taking a blood sample to assess the levels of the female reproductive hormones (FSH, LH). From your partner they will look at his sperm sample to check the volume and motility. You may have endometriosis in which case they will use ultrasound to look at your uterus. Thats only the beginning to find out if your a suitable candidate. It may be that you do not even need IVF. IVF is one of the choices but there are many others such as artifical insemination. As each case is different you really need to see a specialist to guide you towards what is best for you.

IVF is not a risk free procedure. Unfortunately as with pregnancy the male has no pain and its the female who has the pain. IVF is done in stages. The first stage is to give the female a mixture of drugs to increase multiple egg growth. Then a procedure will be carried out using a needle to remove eggs out of your ovary and mixed with your husbands sperm in a dish. They will be left for a few days and then the ones which show best chance of survival will be placed back inside the female but more than one will be placed incase some of them fail! This is why you can have multiple pregnancies as more than one is put back in. At each stage there are risks - there are side effects like headache, nausea and fluid retention from medication, risk of infection, pain, chance it will fail, complications in pregnancy.

About doctors in India - I know relatively little. My advice would be to do your research well and try and see someone who is registered and qualified. Another side note is to be aware of legalities. For instance in the uk NHS offers IVF to those under 37. And above age 45 IVF is illegal in UK. Other countries have less strict regulation, hence why many couples go abroad to clinics.
