Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa, Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fatheh!

Can you walk around with your kirpaan out in Aston Uni or do staff tell you off for it? Because I hate putting it underneath my top, an I dont like keeping my jacket on in lectures, but if they say stuff then obviously I have to keep it hidden....

thanks

^ Staff likely won't tell you off at a University. If anything, they will simply call campus security and have you escorted. Check with the Uni authorities where they stand on this.

A word of caution: I remember when I wore a 12 inch kirpan on the outside at a Sikh event held at Uni. As I walked down the hall, people coming from the opposite direction made room for me! I was high on cloud nine thinking "wow, I must look really impressive today" until I realized the reason people were getting out of my way because they saw my 12 inch kirpan and got scared  Last thing you want to do at Uni is scare people and alienate your self; tread carefully.

EDIT:

Guest please think

I would advise that you do not do this as u are drawing unnessassary attension to your self and amrit dari sikhs. There is a high population of singhs at Aston uni who all have kept their kirpans gupt for a long time. The goreh are already looking for reasons to attack the issue of the wearing of the kirpan so please dont be the cause of this. There is nothing rong wid wearing your kirpan gupt. People will not and do not want to understand why sikhs have the right to wear the kirpan. Also there are plenty of older singhs at that uni, so i would suggest maybe speak to someone at the uni

The University i go to i wear my Kirpan 13.5 inch kirpan on the outside. I usually get a lot of looks but usually don't care. That is until yesterday when some fat white guy got scared and called security. They tried to take my kirpan and i refused to let them do so. But security was cool about it saying they know about Sikhism and the Kirpan but that they usually didn't see someone wearing a kirpan that big. They requested i wear it underneath my clothes because people who don't know about the Kirpan get scared.

This just shows how different people are in the world. Curious people usually come up to me and ask why i wear the Kirpan? What does it mean? and usually have no problem with it after i explain everything to them. They get excited and find the meaning and purpose of the kirpan to be really "cool" and respect the Kirpan after that. But this guy instead of asking me about the Kirpan went and snitched to security. Who snitches in university lol?

Just keep your kirpan covered. Ive been at uni for quite a few years now and I wear a 1.5 foot kirpan, but i always keep it covered somehow, whether under hazooria if wearing kurta pyjama, or inside shirt and trousers if I have to dress formally. You dont want to attract too much attention to yourself and get into an argument with your university staff/security and end up getting the kirpan rules changed for everyone else

I'm not planning on getting kicked out of uni yet thanks, I mean if it was a sin to NOT show your kirpaan then I would have to accept the consequences of showing it because Sikhi comes before uni, but it's not a sin as far as I'm aware, is it?

And thanks "Papi" for your reply

That's not a good attitude to have, you will learn this once you get a little older.

If you see where he was coming from, he did the right thing. For them kirpan is nothing more than a weapon.
