ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

Sriraag, Fourth Mehl:

ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੈ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਾਸੁ ॥

nam milai man thripatheeai bin namai dhhrig jeevas ||

Receiving the Naam, the mind is satisfied; without the Naam, life is cursed.

ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਮੈ ਦਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥

koee guramukh sajan jae milai mai dhasae prabh gunathas ||

If I meet the Gurmukh, my Spiritual Friend, he will show me God, the Treasure of Excellence.

ਹਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਚਉ ਖੰਨੀਐ ਮੈ ਨਾਮ ਕਰੇ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੧॥

ho this vittahu cho khanneeai mai nam karae paragas ||1||

I am every bit a sacrifice to one who reveals to me the Naam. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਾ ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥

maerae preethama ho jeeva nam dhhiae ||

O my Beloved, I live by meditating on Your Name.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਨਾ ਥੀਐ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

bin navai jeevan na thheeai maerae sathigur nam dhrirrae ||1|| rehao ||

Without Your Name, my life does not even exist. My True Guru has implanted the Naam within me. ||1||Pause||

ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਹੈ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

nam amolak rathan hai poorae sathigur pas ||

The Naam is a Priceless Jewel; it is with the Perfect True Guru.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੈ ਲਗਿਆ ਕਢਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥

sathigur saevai lagia kadt rathan dhaevai paragas ||

When one is enjoined to serve the True Guru, He brings out this Jewel and bestows this enlightenment.

ਧੰਨੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਵਡ ਭਾਗੀਆ ਜੋ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੨॥

dhhann vaddabhagee vadd bhageea jo ae milae gur pas ||2||

Blessed, and most fortunate of the very fortunate, are those who come to meet the Guru. ||2||

ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥

jina sathigur purakh n bhaettiou sae bhageheen vas kal ||

Those who have not met the Primal Being, the True Guru, are most unfortunate, and are subject to death.

ਓਇ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਭਵਾਈਅਹਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਕਰਿ ਵਿਕਰਾਲ ॥

oue fir fir jon bhavaeeahi vich visatta kar vikaral ||

They wander in reincarnation over and over again, as the most disgusting maggots in manure.

ਓਨਾ ਪਾਸਿ ਦੁਆਸਿ ਨ ਭਿਟੀਐ ਜਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਚੰਡਾਲ ॥੩॥

ouna pas dhuas n bhitteeai jin anthar krodhh chanddal ||3||

Do not meet with, or even approach those people, whose hearts are filled with horrible anger. ||3||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਨਾਵਹਿ ਆਇ ॥

sathigur purakh anmrith sar vaddabhagee navehi ae ||

The True Guru, the Primal Being, is the Pool of Ambrosial Nectar. The very fortunate ones come to bathe in it.

ਉਨ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਉਤਰੈ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇ ॥

oun janam janam kee mail outharai niramal nam dhrirrae ||

The filth of many incarnations is washed away, and the Immaculate Naam is implanted within.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਤਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੪॥੨॥੬੬॥

jan naanak outham padh paeia sathigur kee liv lae ||4||2||66||

Servant Nanak has obtained the most exalted state, lovingly attuned to the True Guru. ||4||2||66||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥

salok ma 3 ||

Shalok, Third Mehl:

ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਵਿਣੁ ਦੰਤਾ ਜਗੁ ਖਾਇਆ ॥

Maeya mamathaa mohanee jin vin dhanthaa jag khaaeiaa ||

The love of Maya is enticing; without teeth, it has eaten up the world.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਖਾਧੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿਨੀ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

Manamukh khaadhhae guramukh oubarae jinee sach naam chith laaeiaa ||

The self-willed manmukhs are eaten away, while the Gurmukhs are saved;

they focus their consciousness on the True Name.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜਗੁ ਕਮਲਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਇਆ ॥

Bin naavai jag kamalaa firai guramukh nadharee aaeiaa ||

Without the Name, the world wanders around insane; the Gurmukhs come to see this.

ਧੰਧਾ ਕਰਤਿਆ ਨਿਹਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਨ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥

Dhhandhaa karathiaa nihafal janam gavaaeiaa sukhadhaathaa man n vasaaeiaa ||

Involved in worldly affairs, he wastes his life in vain; the peace-

giving Lord does not come to abide in his mind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

naanak naam thinaa ko miliaa jin ko dhhur likh paaeiaa ||1||

O Nanak, they alone obtain the Name, who have such pre-ordained destiny. ||1||

ਸਲੋਕ ॥ Shalok:ਉਦਮੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀਹੋ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥

Uddam karahu vaddabhageeho simarahu har har rae ,Make the effort, O very fortunate ones, and meditate on the Lord, the Lord King.ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਭ ਸੁਖ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥

Naanak jis simarath sabh sukh hovehi dhookh dharadh bhram jae ||1||

O Nanak, remembering Him in meditation, you shall obtain total peace,

and your pains and troubles and doubts shall depart. ||1||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥ Shalok:ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੰਤਿਆ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਕਹੈ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ॥

har har nam japanthia kashh n kehai jamakal ||

If you chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, Har,

Har, the Messenger of Death will have nothing to say to you.ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੋਇ ਅੰਤੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੋਪਾਲੁ ॥੧॥

naanak man than sukhee hoe anthae milai gopal ||1||

O Nanak, the mind and body will be at peace, and in the end,

you shall merge with the Lord of the world. ||1||
