Takht Chief Warns Leaders Visiting Dera

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has said action will be taken against any Sikh leader visiting Dera Sacha Sauda. “If we receive a complaint and proof to substantiate it, we will discuss the matter in the meeting of Sikh high priests and act as per the religious code of conduct,” he said.

Meanwhile, even as Sikh organisations have been seeking action against PPP chief Manpreet Badal for visiting Dera Sacha Sauda recently, a peep into the past reveals that the Akal Takht has never acted against any Sikh politician visiting the dera, although it is a violation of its edict dated May 20, 2007, which directs the Sikhs to socially boycott the dera.

Among the leaders who had visited the dera in the past include PCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh, Gurcharan Singh Galib (Ludhiana), Sher Singh Ghubhaiya (Ferozepur), Raninder Singh (Bathinda), Jagmeet Singh Brar (Ferozepur), and Sukhvinder Singh Danny (Faridkot).

Of these, Ghubaiya is the SAD MP from Ferozepur while the remaining leaders belong to the Congress. The SAD also faced the allegation of ensuring covert support of the dera before fielding Harsimrat Kaur from the Bathinda Lok Sabha seat.

Earlier, senior vice-president of SAD Gurdev Badal had said, “It is neither wrong to visit Dera Sacha Sauda nor an aberration to seek votes from this sect which has a large following”.

The warning is not enough. The so called Sikh leaders who have dared to go against the directives of the Akal Takht Sahib should be thrown out of the Panth.

Unfortunatly its not as easy to do as say... these people do what they do as they have power... i was in india a little while back when the gov was a bit scared of all the posters of Sant Ji. The youth were rising up so police were stopping anyone with their picture etc.. i was in a local pind mtg with the mla (family), local mundi guy and the dsp or what ever ...anyway his police guard saw this car with sant ji's picture on the back of it and were trying to find out whos it was...my cousin who car it was goes its his... i just knew this was gonna lead to problems they started saying to himto take it off and then we come out and the mla comes and sits in the car you should have seen the coppers faces its clasical they thought <banned word filter activated> what now.. my cousin then turn around and looked the coppers directly in faces and drove off but it goes to show that these people have power .. what can you do against them .. we can do morche all we want but until the local pind guys and girls dont stop voting for these people theres nothing we can do ... Badals are one of if not the most powerful family in punjab, this is never gonna change ver night and it would be difficult for the jatherdar to excommunicate them from the panth ....the badals are clever their policys look like they are helping the normal people, i.e. jatts vote for them as they think they look after them as farmers. Badals have been in power so long that its near impossible to get them out. the only way is to educate and pray .. but whos better? If you kick out the badals, captin etc who would you have to run punjab?
