AMRITSAR: Following the Bandh call given by Sikh hardliners and Sikh radical organizations, there was complete strike observed to express solidarity with the Balwant Singh Rajoana, co-accused in the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh.

However, as per the edict of Akal Takht (the highest Sikh Temporal seat),every people of Sikh community were asked to wear saffron turban and affix saffron flag atop of the business establishments and residential areas to express anguish over the hanging order of Balwant Singh Rajaona, slated to execute on March 31 by the session court of Chandigarh.

A sea of saffron has flooded in and around the Harmandhar Sahib popularly known as Golden Temple. Residents of the holy city Amritsar have hoisted saffron flags on their building and vehicles including cars and two wheelers as an expression of anguish against the death sentence of Rajaona.

More than two thousands of SGPC employees including all the Sikhs priests of Golden Temple and other Gurdwaras have tied saffron turban even SGPC run hospitals and schools and colleges employees were also seen in Saffron turban.

Bandh was strictly and completely observed around the Golden Temple as none of the business establishment was found opened even eating joints, restaurants, Dhabas were also found closed. The busiest shopping area inside the walled city like Hall Bazar and cloths markets where more than one lakhs foot fall of visitors registered on daily basis were also found shut.

The bandh call also left its reflection on the State run bus service of Punjab Roadways, since none of the Government run bus hit the road following the band call. But at the same time Railway service remained as normal, since trains were moving as per schedule. So far no untoward incident reported by noon. Police have been keeping strong vigil in every nook and corner of the city to maintain law and order.
