Naam simran for a sikh

Meditating on Nam (Divine Substance) and Scriptures

Article IV

1. A Sikh should wake up in the ambrosial hours (three hours before the dawn), take bath and, concentrating his/her thoughts on One Immortal Being, repeat the name Waheguru (Wondrous Destroyer of darkness

Exactly what does this mean to everyone ?

To me it means meditate using waheguru gurmantra.

However because this article iv continues to give the list of nitnem, then to alot of others it means to say 'waheguru' for a few minutes or so- maybe while you have a shower !!

It is NOT specific in this sense, therefore we cannot endorse our personal intepretations.- although I agree it tells 'me' to meditate like you mention.

So, even though I agree with you, I can't demand others to interpret the same

The purpose of sikh religion is that we are given human body to realize God and thus get rid of reincarnation. For that one has to do naam simran by following sikh code of conduct.

This is what Guru sahib advises us

Bhai prapat manukh dehriya

Gobind milan ki eh teri bariya

SGGS ji

It says that one should get up in early morning hours.Obviously one has to concentrate on Naam simran during those hours. Moreover Gurumantra is given by panj piaras during baptism ceremony and they advise us orally to do naam simran jugti.

So one should try to follow that instead of ridiculing it. Especially preachers should do their duty to tell sangat purpose of religion.

The only gurmantar I know is 'WAHEGURU' and that is what is in the rehat as you showed earlier, so why go back on the rehat ?

If panj pyarey tell you to recite something else, is that what you go with instead of 'waheguru' ?

I am NOT ridiculing anything. I am stating as it is, just like Dhunda may have been doing !!

I said earlier that I agree with you that to me personally it means to do naam simran using 'Waheguru' mantar.

However, I said that we shouldn't endorse our own interpretatons should we?

Otherwise, it is our very EGO that is speaking.

Simran is supposed to hammer down our egos and mine certainly has.

Gurumantra is given by Panj piaras at the time of baptism. They are acting as Guru panth.

They say to recite waheguru only. This is the time a sikh is initiated. This is a sikh way since guru

period.

Amrit: Ambrosia of eternal life, the Initiation of a Gursikh with Amrit, a Sikh form of Baptism. When the Sikh submits completely to the Guru, Five Gursikhs give him instructions regarding the Nitt Name, the Rehet, and how to meditate on a Word. Waheguru is the Sikh Gurmantra. Amrit is the only way to spiritually receive Gurmantra from the Sikh Guru. Having a Gurmantra is not an exclusive privilege of a Gursikh, though. It is an ancient practice, followed in some form by all serious seekers and Saints. Meditation on the Sikh Gurmantra without Amrit is compared to someone trying to earn a diploma without being enrolled in the school. A Gurmantra, with submission to a Guru and proper meditation, is essential for a true repose in God, leading to a wholesome life. To stress this, this is the only time the Fifth Master has used such harsh words: "A living being without a Gurmantra turns his precious human birth into disgrace. He becomes putrefied and foul. This fool is like a (helpless) dog, a (muck loving) swine, a donkey (toiling for others), a (vagrant) crow, and a (venomous) snake." (SGGS, p.1356)

RIDICULOUS !!!!

Exactly what did I say that was 'anti' ??

I have NOT denied the dasam granth in any way. There are banis that are part of our nitnem that are from the dasam granth, -why the hell would I deny this ?

All I said was that you should listen to what dhunda says and make up your own mind instead of slandering without knowing the truth.

I really couldn't care less if he is liked or hated, that is not going to make me more gurmat in any manner.

On some of these posts I find some very anti-sehajdhari opinions that are offensive. These people do NOT encourage fellow sikhs to move forward and progress to amrit, infact they give the opposite impression with their ego-fuelled statements.
