I wanted to know what it says in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji about why God watches so many people and/or animals suffer and not do anything? Or something related to that.

I am asking this because I, myself, haven't read the entire Guru Granth Sahib Ji yet so I don't know what it says about this topic or if it is even mentioned at all. Secondly, I am asking this because I feel very distraught. I saw a man brutally beat and kill this innocent little dog right in front of my eyes this afternoon. The little puppy didn't do anything to deserve such a horrible death. I tried to stop him but I got pushed away. I also called the police. They are currently investigating. I didn't even know who the man was.

Anyways, I really hope that man gets karma for what he did. And I wanted to know why God lets innocent people and animals suffer sometimes. Is there a purpose to their suffering? Is anything about this said in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji?

Thank you for reading and I apologize beforehand if I said something wrong or if this thread offends anyone.

Two reasons: free will and karma

In this puppy's case: the man was using free will to beat up puppy. Man probably had anger/psychological issues due to karma. So yes man will suffer beating sometime n another person will ask "oh why does God allow suffering" when in reality it is justice. Man getting wat he deserved for using freewill wrongfully.

Sikhi has a different approach to this, it is Hukam, (not Karma), which is why stuff happens, even your actions is determined by Hukam, "

Hukam na jāṇai bahuṯā rovai. One who does not know the Hukam of the Lord's Command cries out in terrible pain.

Anḏar ḏẖokẖā nīḏ na sovai. She is filled with deception, and she cannot sleep in peace.

Je ḏẖan kẖasmai cẖalai rajā▫ī. But if the soul-bride follows the Will of her Lord and Master,

Ḏar gẖar sobẖā mahal bulā▫ī. she shall be honored in her own home, and called to the Mansion of His Presence." Ang 85

You asked 2 questions: why is there suffering and why doesnt God do somehing about it.

First Answer: - Gurbani says we humans and all other animals are lost in the whirlpool of 84 lakh transmigration cycle, and that we are all suffering very badly due to being seperated from God since the creation of this world. Its not just the puppy but all humans are suffering aswell.

The only superiority of the human life is that it is a last chance to get out of the cycle of birth and death. Only by surrendering yourself and coming under the guidance of the Guru and following his teachings can we obtain happiness and end our (and others) suffering.

Second Answer: - God has done something about suffering he came to the Earth many times as Prophets, Saints, Messiah etc and recently came as Guru Nanak in 1469AD. Today we have the living Guru a master who himself knows God and can get others there.

God also created the law of karma so the person who killed the dog will surely suffer sometime

This is not directed personally at u so please don't be offended. Many ppl wonder why God just 'watches' ppl suffer? Well do they expect him to step in n stop ppl n save ppl? If he started doing that the same ppl would complain cuz they no longer will have choices/free will. Think about it: wat if god said no driving cars it hurts planet n kills thousands of animals, no drinking u can run over ppl, no sleeping in late then ull rush n speed n kill ppl. No cutting hair it will make u suffer. No yelling at ur children it makes them cry n so suffer. ...u see? Where would the limit be...we want God to save ppl from car accidents that will leave them handicapped and mutilated but if god said no drinking cuz it will cause accident we wouldn't listen or like it. We cannot have the option of choice without having to face the consequences. We want to keep our choices but god to save us from the results...not possible.

    • Definitely the Guru Sahibs would be a heavier Scriptures to handle. Dasam Granth is more towards Bir Rass, Guru Gobind Singh showed his Greatness (of course, they would never say this) by separating his own Baania.  And the BIGGEST test of all?? Do we try and read Dasam Granth, Understand n show respect like we do to SGGS? Or... Do we QUESTION it? Guru Gobind Singh Ji is testing us.
    • My wife will be going for an MRI scan next week but her Kara won’t physically come off.  Is there any way the mri scan can be done with the Kara still on?  The alternative is we will have to try to saw it off before the scan.
    • was researching this and came back to this thread. Also found an older thread:
    • Net pay after taxes. If you don't agree, think about this: If you were a trader and started off in China with silk that cost 100 rupees and came to India, and you had to pay total 800 rupees taxes at every small kingdom along the way, and then sold your goods for 1000 rupees, you'd have 100 rupees left, right? If your daswandh is on the gross, that's 100 rupees, meaning you have nothing left. Obviously, you owe only 10% of 100, not 10% of 1000. No, it's 10% before bills and other expenses. These expenses are not your expenses to earn money. They are consumption. If you are a business owner, you take out all expenses, including rent, shop electricity, cost of goods sold, advertising, and government taxes. Whatever is left is your profit and you owe 10% of that.  If you are an employee, you are also entitled to deduct the cost of earning money. That would be government taxes. Everything else is consumption.
    • No, bro, it's simply not true that no one talks about Simran. Where did you hear that? Swingdon? The entire Sikh world talks about doing Simran, whether it's Maskeen ji, Giani Pinderpal Singh, Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi, or Sants. So what are you talking about? Agreed. Agreed. Well, if every bani were exactly the same, then why would Guru ji even write anything after writing Japji Sahib? We should all enjoy all the banis. No, Gurbani tells you to do Simran, but it's not just "the manual". Gurbani itself also has cleansing powers. I'm not saying not to do Simran. Do it. But Gurbani is not merely "the manual". Reading and singing Gurbani is spiritually helpful: ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਭਾਖਿਆ ॥  ਗਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਪੜਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The Lord's Bani and the words are the best utterances. Ever sing hear and recite them, O brother and the Perfect Guru shall save thee. Pause. p611 Here Guru ji shows the importance of both Bani and Naam: ਆਇਓ ਸੁਨਨ ਪੜਨ ਕਉ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਲਗਹਿ ਅਨ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The mortal has come to hear and utter Bani. Forgetting the Name thou attached thyself to other desires. Vain is thy life, O mortal. Pause. p1219 Are there any house manuals that say to read and sing the house manual?
