This Shabad is written by Guru Nanak Dev Ji Himself in Raag Vadhans on Ang 557 of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj: vfhMsu mhlw 1 Gru 2 ] vaddeha(n)s mehalaa 1 ghar 2 || Raga Wadhans is considered suitable for the cold season and is assigned to the afternoon hours. Its mood is quiet and tender. Texts set to the raga explain how the Guru alone can lead one to the Lord. Without the Lord one is likened to a woman without the love of her spouse. Fifty-three sabdas plus numerous slokas represent the total number composed to this raga by Guru Nanak, Guru Amar Das, Guru Ram Das and Guru Arjan. More on Raga Wadhans Mahala tells us who wrote the shabad: in Gurban…

vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh This is a Shabad by Bhagat Kabeer Ji on Ang 484 of Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. I would rather be cut apart by a saw, than have You turn Your back on me. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki fateh! I was sitting in sangat one day, and this hukamnama came from Guru Sahib (This Shabad is by Bhagat Naam Dev Ji in Raag Dhanaasree) Made me think because of its uniqueness. Yesterday, a couple of us started doing vichaar, and this shabd came up again. Here's the shabd: ਪਹਿਲਪੁਰੀਏਪੁੰਡਰਕਵਨਾ॥ Pahil purīė pundrak vanā. First of all, the lotuses bloomed in the woods; ਤਾਚੇਹੰਸਾਸਗਲੇਜਨਾਂ ॥ Ŧā cẖė hansā saglė janāʼn. from them, all the swan-souls came into being. ਕ੍ਰਿਸ੍ਨਾਤੇਜਾਨਊਹਰਿਹਰਿਨਾਚੰਤੀਨਾਚਨਾ॥੧॥ Krisnā ṯė jānū har har nācẖanṯī nācẖnā. ||1|| Know that, through Krishna, the Lord, Har, Har, the dance of creation dances. ||1|| ਪਹ…

ਮਾਰੂਮਹਲਾ੫॥ Mārū mehlā 5. Maaroo, Fifth Mehl: Mārū Rāāg Maaru Bihaag - Slightly different than Raag Maaru Maru is an old raga seldom heard in concerts today. Some theorists equate it with Maruva or 'Marva. In the Ragmala, Maru is a putra (son) of Malkaunsa. It is found in other classifications from the 14th to the early 19th century. Maru was used by Guru Nanak, Guru Amar Das, Guru Ram Das, Guru Arjan and Guru Tegh Bahadur for 144 hymns, two vars plus a large number of slokas. One of its variations is Maru Kafi. Maru is assigned to the hours of sunset and is considered suitable for the cold season. The mood is quiet and contemplative. The tonal material given here is …

Vahegurujeekakhalsa Vahegurujeekeefateh Earlier i was sitting in a class and i was wondering if we could have a topic on Gurbani Vichar. I dont know if this idea will work but at least its a start. I was thinking that the first person could start with a gurbani tuk and then the next person can do vichaar on that tuk/shabad in hopes to inspire someone on this board. Even if the next person wants to do more vichaar of feels the need for more can do so, and when we feel ready move to the next tuk or shabad. I just thought about this becuase gurbani vichaar is something that initself is very strong and powerful but sometimes its nice to do it with sangat to hear different vi…

vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh Guru Saheb deleted the vichaar I was typing : ) so this is by Bhai Kulpreet Singh, taken from the message board at www.akj.org. I have many personalities, many little me’s in the big, bold, egotistical I. So full of myself that I call myself “we,” and use “our,” and “us.” In reality it is just me, my full-of-my-self-egotistical-maniacal self… In our conversation, in our presentation, in our appearance we are nice, sweet, and impressive. Our character, however, is otherwise. We talk nicely, we write nicely, we walk nicely, and we are able to make others believe that we are nice. Yet our traits are terrible. We sow the seeds …

vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh There are no words to describe this Shabad. It actually comprises of four verses, this part is only the first quarter of the entire Shabad and is the part which tends to be sung most commonly. If I can, I'll try to cover the other parts another time. ਆਸਾਮਹਲਾ੫ ॥ ਵੰਞੁਮੇਰੇਆਲਸਾਹਰਿਪਾਸਿਬੇਨੰਤੀ ॥ ਰਾਵਉਸਹੁਆਪਨੜਾਪ੍ਰਭਸੰਗਿਸੋਹੰਤੀ ॥ ਸੰਗੇਸੋਹੰਤੀਕੰਤਸੁਆਮੀਦਿਨਸੁਰੈਣੀਰਾਵੀਐ ॥ ਸਾਸਿਸਾਸਿਚਿਤਾਰਿਜੀਵਾਪ੍ਰਭੁਪੇਖਿਹਰਿਗੁਣਗਾਵੀਐ ॥ ਬਿਰਹਾਲਜਾਇਆਦਰਸੁਪਾਇਆਅਮਿਉਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਸਿੰਚੰਤੀ ॥ ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿਨਾਨਕੁਮੇਰੀਇਛਪੁੰਨੀਮਿਲੇਜਿਸੁਖੋਜੰਤੀ ॥੧॥ ਆਸਾਮਹਲਾ੫॥ Āsā mehlā 5 Aasaa, Fifth Mehl ਵੰਞੁਮੇਰੇਆਲਸਾਹਰਿਪਾਸਿਬੇਨੰਤੀ॥ vañj mėrė ālsā har pās bėnantī. ਵੰਞੁ means 'go away', and it's referring to the…

Vaaheguroo jee kaa khalsaa, Vaaheuguroo jee kee fateh!!! Gonna try to do some vichaar on random shabds from STTM from now. The banee is in larivaar, but try to read each shabd outloud and I'm sure if you can read padd ched it will help you read larivaar as well. There's always the transliteration under each shabad that helps. The shabd is in Raag Devgandhaaree Raga Devghandhari is one of the oldest raga of the Indian School of Music. According to one one belief it is made up of ragas Asawari, Bhairo and Devgiri. In the Ragamala listed at the end of Guru Granth Sahib it is classified as a consort of raga Malkausak. In the Kali Nath School of music it is listed as a cons…
