Phagwara, July 6 Jathedar Sukhdev Singh Bhaur, a former acting SGPC president and an Akali stalwart, today underlined the need for new methods for propagation of Sikhism to usher in a renaissance in the Sikh religion and to bring back those who had got weaned away from the faith. He was addressing the 86th “Jor Mela” at nearby historic Palahi village on the concluding day. The three day “Jor Mela” was held to observe the fifth battle fought by the sixth Guru Hargobind, against the Mughal rulers at Palahi village in 1634. Amritsar, July 6 Mr Kirpal Singh Badungar, President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, today described the speculative reports about any possible change of guard in the Shiromani committee as ‘baseless’. He, however, said that he was ready to accept any directive of the party. In an oblique reference to his rivals who wanted to dislodge him from the coveted post, Mr Badungar said that it (post of SGPC chief) was given to him by the Sikh Panth. link-----http://www.tribun…

Chandigarh, July 4 The Punjab and Haryana High Court, in a significant judgement, today ruled that the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) was not an industry and its employees were not “workmen” under the Industrial Disputes Act. Pronouncing the orders on an appeal filed by the SGPC against Patiala Labour Court’s order in favour of an employee, Mr Justice Mehtab Singh Gill of the High Court added that the distribution of karah Parshad, besides the opening of free kitchen — langar — would not bring it under the provisions of the Industrial Disputes Act. The state had earlier challenged the Labour Court’s order setting aside the termination orders of an emplo…
