  1. I'll keep this brief. I want to ask the sangat their opinions on an issue that has been on my mind for the past few years. I'm hoping we're all aware of the current situation in the world regarding the so-called war on terror, and associated issues such as extremism, fanaticism, etc. The Western world (the media and governments) is always looking for assurances from Muslims that they do not endorse the violent behaviour exhibited by certain factions to further their respective causes. Thus, we always hear the classic line "Islam is a religion of peace" as a way of assuring the sensitive West that everything is fine and they've got nothing to worry about. This got me thinking about Sikhi and how a large chunk of our faith's existence has been spent on the battlefield. Guru Gobind Singh Ji says that the greatest death is one whereby shaheedi is given, and many of us seem to revel in this kind of talk because it makes us feel proud of our heritage and proud of the brave individuals that once populated our homeland & called themselves Sikh. So my question is this: In this modern world - where the spreading of peace & democracy through warfare seem to be the exclusive preserve of the United States and it's allies - does glorifying violent causes and wars (even if they ARE permissable from a moral and religious (Sikhi) standpoint) and in-fact approving of it's methods and ends - be something Sikhs should not be ashamed to do? Should we compromise our core beliefs and remain anonymous in order not to be tarred with the "extremist brush" OR should we say "To hell with that! I'm not distorting my faith and it's ideals because it makes a few hypocritical politicians and arm-chair pundits feel uncomfortable"? Who knows what the future will bring. If there are future conflicts involving Sikhs - such as what happened in Punjab during the 80s and 90s - how many of us will look over the parapets and support our fellow Sikhs even if to the rest of the world it seems like a bunch of mad militants running around causing trouble?

  2. Wow, attacking Sikhnet? One of the main sources of sikhi to the West, that has done nothing but seva for the Khalsa Panth. This is very sad. Just visit the site Only Five. Here, I will make it easy for you. www.sikhnet.com. Maybe one day you will grow out of your phase of attacking everything that doesnt fit into your black and white version of what you think Sikhi is. And I would suggest a bit more respect when you are speaking to a fellow veer such as Gurmustak Singh veerjee. Just a reminder to the Sikhnet team that the Panth by and large supports you. Keep up the seva. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

  3. ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ http://gurmatbodh.bl...alsa-rehat.html Bibek is a universal Rehat for the Khalsa, it is not a choice, it is Guru Sahib's hukam to us to keep Bibek. As Guru Ke Khalsa we cannot eat from anywhere and everywhere, there are standards for the Khalsa of Guru Gobind Singh. Guru Sahib said: ਖਾਲਸੇ ਕਰ ਮੇਰੋ ਸਤਕਾਰਾ I am honoured because of the Khalsa. Guru Sahib says he is honoured because of the Khalsa, Guru Sahib holds the Khalsa very highly. ਖਾਲਸਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਾਨ ਕੀ ਜਾਨ Khalsa is my life & soul Guru Sahib says that Khalsa is my everything. Guru Sahib has placed us in such a high place. I was rolling around in the dirt, and no one cared for me at all. In the Company of the Guru, the True Guru, I, the worm, have been raised up and exalted. Without Guru Jee we are nothing, so if Guru Sahib has given us Hukam then we must follow it! ਗੁਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਸਾ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਹੁ ॥ So do that work, which the Guru tells you to do. Guru Sahib has told us to follow Bibek, there is enough evidence to support this. It is the Rehni-Behni of a Gursikh. Many people say Bibek is the invention of the Akhand Keertani Jatha, this is false. Bibek is for the Khalsa not just the Jatha. On this blog I have showed enough evidence from Taksali sources to show that Bibek is infact a Khalsa Rehat and not just one invented by the Jatha. See here and here. Below is a letter sent by Sant Kartar Singh Jee Khalsa Bhindranwale to his son, Bhai Sahib Bhai Amrik Singh Jee, condemning him for not keeping Bibek and eating openly. He tells Bhai Amrik Singh (who was called Bhai Harbhajan Singh) that look at the honour and respect of the Jatha (Proof that Taksal kept strict Bibek). He says it is not good to eat freely, it will ruin your Gursikhi Jeevan. Sant Jee says I will be ashamed if someone tells me your son does not keep Rehat. He says there is no point in studying if it is at the sake of keeping Rehat. Gurmat Rehat is above all! Here is the original letter, the quality is really bad, but you can follow along with the transcription above.

  4. The dudley situation was an interesting one, I believe those in the satkaar campaign were in the wrong there. When they stormed the party hall and wreaked the place they did not use their brains and in the process made the Sikh community look like a bunch of violent thugs in front of the police and the media. Any provocation should have been dealt with calmly and restraint should have been shown to any insults by the opposition..... however if you are physically attacked.... then your hands are free to defend yourselves and let rip. But always have backup video journalists who are there on your side to record what went on because the only video and images we saw in the national press were of Singhs rushing in and wreaking the party hall. This type of brute force action does more harm to the community than good. PR is very important in the modern world to sway public opinion, it is a form of weapon that should be mastered and used against opponents of Sikhs. At the moment we are very much lacking in this department compared to other religious communities (ie hindu's, jew's and muslim's)

  5. If you have been to Harmandir Sahib you'll know that sometimes you can be waiting in a tightly packed queue for easily more than an hour at times to get inside. Having spoken to Singh in Amritsar, they say you sometimes get Sangat fainting from standing in the searing heat in the summer. When it rains everyone gets drenched and when you are in a tight queue. Whether hot or raining, it's not good as its not easy to get out of the queue or get taken out if you faint/have problems. So chaninees are put up now anyway as required and have been for some time, which are temporary structures and do not look that good. What they are proposing now are permanent poles with a clear motorised retractable top which can be used as and when required. As chaninees are used as temporary measures anyway, this would probably look better and do a better job. ------------------------------------------------------- Web: www.SikhiStore.com Twitter: www.twiiter.com/SikhiStore Facebook: www.facebook.com/SikhiStoreUK

  7. WOAH WOAH wait a second, so am i right in thinking now that, gagandeep singh, actually DID try and rape mundil then? if that is true, then im gona sound controversial, but if anyone tried 2 rape the girls in my family, i'd have that person put to death too. this is so confusing, coz i always thought that this mention of rape by mundil, was her clutchin at straws n tryin to save her self in all this, but it seems now that rape was indeed attempted. can sum1 shed sum more light on this for me.
