  9. More info regarding it's membership... --- The Sikh Federation (UK) membership form reads: The Sikh Federation (UK) is the first ever Sikh political party in the UK. The Federation is based on the "miri-piri" principle - the Sikh principle that temporal and spiritual goals are indivisible. It aims to work closely with each of the main political parties to promote relevant issues set out in the Sikh Agenda for the UK Government. Later it reads: I am aged 18 years or over. I am a British subject or a citizen of Eire, the Channel Islands or Isle of Man. I am registered as an elector at the address given above. I agree to abide by the rules and constitution of the Sikh Federation (UK). It is quite clear that to become a member of the Sikh Federation (UK) you need to be a "British subject" - a resident in the UK. However, Sikh organisations, including Gurdwaras, committed to the "miri-piri" principle are also being encouraged to affiliate to the Sikh Federation (UK) by completing a separate affiliation form that can be obtained by e-mailing sikhfederationuk@yahoo.co.uk. Affiliation by non UK-based Sikh organisations, including Gurdwaras, is not ruled out and indeed may be beneficial, especially as some campaigns e.g. human rights issues require an international effort by Sikhs. Being part of an effective international network for promoting Sikh issues must be a step in the right direction. The Sikh Federation (UK) could also be the forerunner to similar organisations in the USA, Canada etc - Sikh Federation (USA), Sikh Federation (Canada) etc. as the first ever Sikh "political parties" br>in those countries. I hope this helps clarify the situation for our brothers and sisters in the USA and elsewhere. Jagtar Singh
  10. The Sikh Federation (UK) is the first ever Sikh political party in the UK. The Federation is based on the "miri-piri" principle - the Sikh principle that temporal and spiritual goals are indivisible. It aims to work closely with each of the main political parties to promote relevant issues set out in the Sikh Agenda for the UK Government. The Federation was launched in September 2003 with the aim of giving Sikhs a stronger political voice by taking an increasing interest in mainstream politics in the UK. It is developing an extensive organisational structure with branches in each major town and city with a sizeable Sikh population. The aim is to have around 65 branches covering over 150 Parliamentary constituencies. To join the Sikh Federation (UK) you need to complete a membership form and return it to the following postal address Sikh Federation (UK), Tanglewood House, Pine Walk, Chilworth, SO16 7HQ. The membership forms will be reproduced in Awaze Qaum and The Sikh Times next week. In general Sikh e-groups do not allow attachments, therefore to obtain a PDF version of the membership form please e-mail: sikhfederationuk@yahoo.co.uk All British Sikh organisations, including Gurdwaras, committed to the "miri-piri" principle are also encouraged to affiliate to the Sikh Federation (UK) by completing a separate affiliation form that can also be obtained by e-mailing sikhfederationuk@yahoo.co.uk ---------- Soulja brothers, amardeep and other brit singhs/kaur. .Get into this stuff.. it's your/our future :e: ----------

  12. haha.. its weird name though.. u canadians vee naa jk --------- Top Stories Friday October 24, 5:09 PM Sikh guards for Chretien's visit to Golden Temple By Indo-Asian News Service Chandigarh, Oct 24 (IANS) Sikh guards armed with spears and swords will be deployed at the Golden Temple in Amritsar for a visit by the Canadian prime minister Saturday as armed outsiders are not allowed into the historic shrine. "All security arrangements have been finalised," said Daljit Singh Bedi, spokesman for the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), which manages Sikh shrines across the country. "Since outsiders with firearms are not allowed inside the Golden Temple complex, our own guards will provide cover to the Canadian prime minister," Bedi told IANS. Prime Minister Jean Chretien, who arrived in New Delhi Friday on a two-day visit, pays a daylong visit to Punjab, from where a large number of people have migrated to Canada. Bedi said 200 SGPC security guards would be deployed at the four entrances of the Golden Temple and inside the shrine for Chretien's visit. The security arrangements were made in consultation with a team from the Canadian high commission in New Delhi. The SGPC adopted the special security measures for the visit as around a million devotees are expected to throng the shrine Saturday because of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights that is also observed by Sikhs. Chretien will be accorded the same treatment given to Indian Presi dent A.P.J. Abdul Kalam during his visit to the holiest of Sikh shrines earlier this year, Bedi said. Chretien and Liberal Party leaders of Indian origin like Herb Dhaliwal, Baljit Singh Chadha and Gurbux Singh Malhi will be honoured with swords and replicas of the Golden Temple at a function outside the temple. The SGPC Friday held several meetings to ensure Saturday's function at the temple went off smoothly and there was no slogan shouting by radical groups. Chretien's private jet, carrying a delegation of 47 members of Canada's ruling Liberal Party, government officials and reporters, will land at Rajasansi airport in Amritsar, 220 km from here, Saturday at 9.05 a.m. The delegation will reach the Golden Temple at 9.30 am. Chretien will be the first Canadian prime minister to visit the shrine... Read full news here
