  1. keerpa veerjee, in relation to your immediate post b4 this , i think u were a little too harsh on nit picking little faults ppl make wen doing a quick translation from gurmukhi or punjabee to english as they quote relevant verses to make their point . i am sure if you heard these being pronouunced in original by the same ppl they probably sound even better than you and me could pronounce em hahaaa. writing on a forum is not liking writing a book as an intellectual where you are very careful to edit . most ppl just come on , no matter how good or bad their english or power of translation is and read a thread , quickly type their thoughts and are gone . its all being part of the family no matter how good or bad is someone's grasp of languages and ability to translate . would be nice to see you show more softness , try to focus on the point being made and let more of your compassion and love and tenderness to your brothers and sisters show through . if all i wanted was to express my opinions bout things i might as well write a book , but coming on this site is akin to enjoying showing love to the rest of the family , showing appreciation , encouraging ppl ,and contributing in a positive constructive way that makes others feel you are not head strong but rather wise ,gentle and caring .
  2. hahaaa well in a way you ARE perfect the day or second after taking Amrit as you are now a different person , a person who has died to the world and has been reborn as a son of Gurujee , a child of heaven , a servant of God. but that perfection can take a while to be comprehended and find its way through your words, actions and deeds, as wots dead slowly dries off and drops off ,while what is new and perfect starts manifesting powerfully right b4 ur eyes , in your body ,mind and soul . Its all good . As Gurbani says we are all imperfect ,only Gurujee is perfect so im talking about Gurujee's perfect grace and power manifesting in our lifes so His perfection shines through us and, our imperfections simply melt away with time. Gurbani says ''kabir chandan ka bhirva bhela bhereo dhak pelas. oe bhi chandan hoe rahe bseh jeh chandan paas''and Bhai Gurdas says '' satgur paras ,persieh, kanchan kareh manoor melinah''. I'll xplain these verses later on if you do not understand them but basically they mean Satgurujee turns rusty iron to gold , makes non sandal wood trees smell of sandalwood ,and as stated in Asa ki // , turns mere humans into angels .
  3. Do also read Parasprasna by Kapur Singh to understand the REAL differences between Sikhism and Hinduism ,apart from the rituals you just mentioned . A thorough read of Puran Singh's The Spirit Born People always refreshes the mind too as to the uniqueness of Sikhism .
  4. what are you hoping will happen veerjee in the years to come?
  5. HAHA that was pretty good! and thanks again..i'm liking all the encouragement.. i'm one of those over anxious kids..im currently trying to calculate my average kesh "drying time" and see if my kesh dry by the time i leave for school. And yeah mobile numbers wooo! thats exactly what i need... i need one to remind me when to stop worrying aswell and actually do something..silly anxious procrastinating child (me). i didn't read that before.. must say it made my day. Waheguruuuuuuuuu! well we got to fuss over you dont we, since u are the baby of the family hahaaa . tell u wot ,we'll get u married off early to a really really strict amritdharee bibi that will keep u on ur toes and make u run helter skelter to do your stuff hahaaa . And dont worry !!!! gurbani says 'Nanak chinta mat kero ,chinta tes hi hoe'. Taking amrit does not mean getting up the nxt morning to be mr perfect in maryada . Its only common to make changes to your lifestyle as you learn to adapt life to whats new in your life . After taking amrit around your age or less , I remember i struggled through many things but i never gave up and i knew my Dad i.e Gurujee loves me and is forgiving , so as life has gone on i have slowly managed to improve myself . Its like waking up to realise you are reborn and have to relearn how to do everything all over again . My parents brought me up with many bad habits so it took time to turn things around through Gurujee's grace.Slowly but surely . Going to a week long sikhi youth camp always helps too as it jerks you to start waking early for nitnem and get tips from others how to keep ur rehat. You will be fine . Infact be passionate and excited about it . A Sikh does not dither and feel paranoid and drags feet to do right things but runs to do right things excitedly .
  6. my mom taught me a simple lesson . take wotever is a good lesson from a person's life and leave out anything bad . In our ardas we pray 'vekh ke andith kerna'. At the end of the day a Sikh is a saint and saints love God and serve humanity, not get involved in petty gossip and speculations about other people's lifes. Our ardas is always 'tere bhane sarbat ka bhela ' and 'jagat jelenda rakh leh'. Focus on being a true Sikh, than worry about some celebrity's private life, and always be willing to share Sikhi with the world's greatest sinner.
  7. I resent that. I go Sedgley St ouchhh kam1825 has stepped on SikhRoots toes, hahaaa i see 3rd world war shaping up hahaaaa.
  8. hahaaa kam veerjee im both useless and lazy! help me ! menu vade sote nal sudha kardo hahaaaaa .
  9. sukhjeevan veerjee, you can have all our mob numbers too if you want hahaaaaaa . how many do you need? hahaaaaa. you can different numbers 4 different things too . there are ppl on here expert in every subject so u can have numbers for 24/7 help in maths, science ,too hahaaaa . numbers for learning to pronounce bani correctly and numbers for reminding you its nitnem time too hahaa . There is a sikhi campfor youths coming up soon too in UK if you search this site . That migt be a good idea . Dont worry too much about forgetting to do things or your studies coming in the way. We learn from our mistakes and you will work out the best way to arrange your timetable . Older people dont have much energy so they need to choose what to do ,but you are only 15 ! your mind and body are like a young volcano bursting with power ,so you'll find that you can do all the things you need to do like your studies ,learning keertan ,doing simran , hanging out with charged up sikhs ,learning self defense ,doing nitnem ,learning paath etc etc etc . When i was your age , i had time to do so many things because i was strong ,young and very fast and active . i did all my studies , was in charge of cleaning the toilets in the house, had to look after my dad's 100 chickens , and all his vegetable and fruit plots, had to walk 3 miles to school back n forth , had to grind spices and masala for mi mom(no blenders then), had to go to school and do loads homework, but in the middle of all that also did my nitnem ,went 4 evening keertan diwans ,did simran , was learning keertan ,and much much more ----all throiugh Guru's keerpa. i even had to chase away big snakes loitering around !!!!! and Gurujee helped me to pass and go to uni . Most of my nephews n nieces your age are amritdharee and they are doing fine at school ,so dont worry .go for gold!
  10. Well said Khaalis. An example is in Darbar Sahib where most often the last shabad just b4 raehraas sahib is sung in raag asa to set the right musical mood since the preceding So Dar section is sung in raag asa b4 the tabia vale gyanee takes over the rest of Raehraas reading. Likewise when Asa ki // is sung, during the course of singing ,you normally start shifting from raag asa to other ragas like Todi,Asavari, Bhervee, and, as you do this, you may decide to do a couple of 'shekas' of 1 of the raginis of Bhervee ,i.e malkauns or even venture on to other complimentary ragas for a good flow like Rageshwari , chanderkauns ,shivranjeni , or even gunkeli . Likewise Sri raag, darbari kanra, madhuventi , etc are considered by many as midnight ragas but they fit in fine with keertan being done at dusk, if you look up the keertan of ragees like dharam singh zakhmi , nihang balbir singh, and the rest.A lot of times during evening keertan sessions in a gurudwara a 1st heavy raga(e.g sorath, gauree, tilang, jaijawantee is normally proceeded by a second shabad sung in a 'lighter' raga set to a more rhymatic kehrva taal such as bhupali or dhanasree or even a morning raag like bhervee. The most important thing apart from ragas is correct pronounciation ,rehaos at the right place. And of course whichever way you choose to sing, the most important thing is to sing with nimarta and lots of prem ras. No matter how technically right you get your keertan.... if you and the keertan being sung are not radiating with prem ras, your keertan just becomes flat and devoid of emotion and joy and leaves a flat taste. Keertan is built up love for Gurujee bursting out through your voice throat, like how a volcano erupts spewing out hot molten lava.

  13. Kphull , you said''You guys speak about spirituality, but you guys haven’t even tasted the flavour, how do you know the taste.'' Hahahaaaa, wot on earth lead you to that assumption? as if you are personal friends with some ppl on here. You really need to read my post about religion and spirituality with a very humble heart so you could absorb the essence of what i said. You are very obsessed with spirituality, but my friend ,true spirituality starts where ego ends, if indeed you really understand what true spirituality means. In case you dont ,let me give you a simple clue...... spirituality is to be in complete sync with Reality if you know what that means. Once you have experienced Reality, you would recognise and taste spirituality ,even in anything you deem to be unspiritual, because God is omnipresent. A truly spiritual person does never ever point a finger at a stranger and proclaim''You guys speak about spirituality, but you guys haven’t even tasted the flavour, how do you know the taste.''A truly spiritual person is one who has effaced his/her ego, and instead of belittling and patronising ppl, rather, thinks of them as better than him/herself, and lives life not by accusing but by loving and serving ppl. If you really want to understand spirituality, spend your time researching on the lifes of our 10 Gurus ,and on the topics/concepts of naam, amrit, sewa, satsang and in addition start reading Shree Guru Granth Sahib. Then, all your opinions based on the little you know or may have experienced would vanish and be replaced with a silent but confident understanding of spirituality. If you want to taste spirituality, then you need to take the 1st step of receiving Amrit from the 5 pyaras. When you really start tasting spirituality, you will feel very intoxicated, everything will taste and feel sweet , you will have an extremely sense of heightened perception, your body will feel light but extremely powerful , your mind will feel an inner glow, you will be extremely aware and awake, an oceon of joy and peace will be opened within you , you will feel very soaked with the wetness of God's love, and your every word , thought and deed will radiate with dynamism ,creativity ,optimism ,gratitude, wisdom and ecstasy that will bless every person who reads even a sentence you write. If indeeed , you have tasted spirituality you would not indulge in nitty gritty slanging matches putting yourself on a pedestal, but your inner would respond to others wisdom ,like the petals of a flower that open wide to surrender their nectar to a visiting bee. If you want even to have an inkling of spirituality, then stop this endless clutter in your busy mind that tries to pretend that its a master in distinguishing the hall marks of spirituality, and instead humble yourself in total surrender to Reality manifesting Itself through Shree Guru Granth Sahib. Thats the day you would have taken your first baby crawl towards the gift of spirituality that comes at no easy price.
  14. me cousin has a leaking patch on his roof in sutton . i just need the tel number of any gursikh builders /roofers in birmingham ?
  15. This is directed to manni oo7 and kphull......., By trying to distinguish religion and spirituality you are missing the point. Sikhism is beyond religion, and, spirituality too. Religion consists of do's and dont's, and a certain set of rituals and putting yourself in a box . Spirituality consists of an emphasis on the metaphysical, of a focus on the unseen, more often than not, self efforted, and, not centred and arising out of the grace and guidance of God. At the crux of Sikhism however, is a love relationship/eternal bond between disciple and Guru. In this relationship, Shree Guru Granth Sahib is our, grace giving Guru and our being is the surrendered disciple. Guru Granth Sahib IS Guru/Enlightener whether or not you like it, in EVERY aspect of our life, without any area of our life falling out of the purview, radar and command of Shree Guru Granth Sahib. Gurujee does point out don'ts that throw us off course from orbiting our life around the Will of God, and, do's that help us get back into sync and harmony with God's Will and Supreme Pleasure. Further, Gurujee does not just unlock the secrets of the metaphysical, but also, of this material matrix. Gurujee draws all of creation towards Themselves, and yet helps us to love and serve all of creation. Make no mistake, during the times of our 10 Gurus, people stuck hopelessly in the rut of haughty and fanatical religionism and self efforted spiritualism, from all religous and cultural backgrounds, were drawn to Gurus like moths to light. As they ventured closer and closer towards the galaxy of Gurujee's blossoming Universe of love and grace, all their previous karmas, all their feathered packaging of previous religous and spiritual attachments, got burnt up by the blazing power of the Sun of Gurujee's radiance. They got catapulted into the orbit of Gurujee's magnetic Sun of Love and Reality . They became planets in eternal orbit around the object of their adoration and worship, living solely for that purpose....... to ever grasp and kiss the Lotus Feet of Shabad Guru, manifesting through the bodies of our 10 Gurus , then illuminating the universe eternally through Shree Guru Granth Sahib . And this process has and shall continue. Such are we, as Sikhs of our Guru, shining stars spread across the canopy of God's created universe ,twinkling uncontrollably each time our Master glimpses at us, and, beaming light, hope and love where a cry of desperation arises from the abyss of darkness, of those lost wandering souls wandering off orbit, aimlessly, looking for a way out of their misery, and guiding them towards Gurujee, the SupremeEternal Enlightener and Attracter of the Universe . ........ And stars do not lock themselves in an embrace with planets, ... but stars move and vibrate in a cosmic dance of attraction, to other stars, to collide and create an even bigger shining mega star!...as in a marriage between 2 Sikhs. As SGGS says ''ek jot ,doe murti, dhan pir kehieh soe''

  23. I think the answer lies in education. Education about your own faith and the other faiths. Scholars like Kapur Singh who wrote PARASARAPRASNA ,or Puran Singh in Spirit of the Sikh , could stand up and show the differences between the theology of Sikhism vis a vis other religions like Buddhism,Hinduism , Islam etc, and show the superiority of Sikhism, could do so, because they researched into comparative religion. Its when your own Sikhi is in ''dhendi kela'' and you are dwindling away in your faith ,and not bothering to be well read in Sikhi and also have some understanding of other faiths ,and .... how Sikhi is far better, that you are a vulnerable target. If you get up at Amritvela , do lots of simran, nitnem ,and stay focussed on Sikhi , have taken ,are taking amrit , and getting into gurbani, keertan and sikhi values and morals and principals , Gurujee's power and light will shine on you ,and your forehead and body and life . As Gurbani says ''noor arsoh korsoh jhetieh'. You will look like a lion/lioness shining in radiance and confidence , walking with a straight back ,big smile on yoiur face , whilst at the same time your face makes bad and evil ppl fear you wen u stare at them . When ppl talk to you ,you dont talk like a coward but a lion ,loud and clear and it frightens ppl trying to intimade you and makes them think twice of approaching you . And because you are full of Gurmat and Guru-gyan , and wisdom and Gurujee gives you the power to see thru things and be super-intelligent ,hence they lose to you very fast . Never turn your back to your enemy ,face them direct . Gurujee is with you! And of cos , every Sikh naujawan ,guy or girl HAS to know self defence . Thats not an option . In today's world ,thats compulsory .
  24. Why don't you enlighten us about this?My parents always do this, if I question their decision on something important they respond with "koi naa kaka, jado tu sadi umer da ho jaiga fey tenu pata laggu ki reason aa" I mean why can't you just explain the reason now?!!! It's very annoying when they do that! hahaaa kakajee dont feel annoyed no more . on this forum everything you ask will get answered ,even argued over, many times more than u bargained for hahaaaaaaaaa . From the simple way my little brain works, i suppose the logic is that, at least by marrying a Sikh , then you are leaving the door open for many different possibilities and oppurtunities, i.e that, one of you will get fired up 4 sikhi sometime and lead on, the rest of the family .However if u marry a non -Sikh the onus will be on you to be fired up and even then you will face obstacles . A sikh partner is better facilitated to understand you because he/she would generally be more or less aware of various aspects of Sikh lifestyle, whether or not they follow it ,and hence more amicable to compromise with your demands. Also as gurbani says,''vhtheiee vehvl boh piri chaleh ' i.e the vine can expand and go many generations'. Thus a couple both sikh may have interest in Sikhi but however are producing children . Because their mom n dad are occassionally going to gurudwara ,albeit just to attend a rites of passage ceremony like a marriage, that is creating oppurtunities for that child to be in a sikhi related environment which may spark that kid's interest in Sikhi and then be a force for change for that family towards sikhi. This is what i have observed anyway to be true for at least the last 2 generations of sikhs in my lifetime and the third coming up now who became/are becoming amritdharees , including 3HO where the converted sikh parents work hard to inherit their Sikhi tradition it to their kids, and so on.
  25. I feel lost for words. Tears fill my heart and my throat is choked. A gurmukh has come, spread joy all around herself, ,strewn rose petals along the path of those who knew her, sang a song of love to God, Guru, Khalsa panth and humanity. Then, one set of 5 Pyaras gave her Amrit, and another set of 5 pyaras, almost immediately, descended from Sachkhand, carrying a Heavenly Throne in Their midst to seat her on it like the Queen of the Universe, to bring this 'sohagan' into the Mighty Presence of Almighty, Sahibe-kamal , Noor -do-alam ,Badshah Darvesh, Guru Gobind Singh ..... so she can sing eternally as Gurbani says'' priah ki preet sohaveni lagee'' and '' sachi preet hum tum seo joree'' and '' toree na tute, choree na chuthe, esi madho kinch dheni''. Dhan Guru! Dhan Guru Pyareh!!!!!!! This is just so so so so amazingly, awesomely ,brilliantly , excitingly magical .Best ever cosmic journey! ''GURMUKH SDEH AAE, AAVN GHELIA'' ''JAI JAI JAI SURLOKH'' WAHEGURUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
