  1. (note: this is mostly sarcasm, I'm not being too serious but I wouldn't look it over:) Why should we women care what happens to sikhi? We ain't allowed to do seva! Lets seem them panj pyare do something about it, they think they have a good idea about what women can and can not do...so probably they've got some Brilliant ideas to tackle the hinduization of sikhi. (remember i'm joking ! but give it some thought if its worth a moment)
  2. 1. More and more effective parchaar to the so called sikh masses. These are the ppl who claim to be sikh but hardly know anything about it and they do all the hindu rituals and practices. ------>maybe nows a good time for the gurdwara management ppl to actually start spending the money where it is NEEDED: Education. I juz don't understand the benefit of spending millions of dollars on a beautiful building of marble and granite when the future generations are drifting away and hardly anything is being done to educate them. 2. Sikhism should be recognized as a separate religion in the Indian constiution rather than a sect of Hinduism. Of course, thats not bout to happen soon.
  3. yeah..i've heard cleaning the sangat's shoes is probably the best cuz it brings down ur hankaar and haumai. also, GUPT seva I think is also very good. don't go bragging about how much seva u done or what exactly you've done. Helps keep your hankaar and haumai down making you humble person.
  4. looks like good stuff but I defintily gotta agree that the link to Kings Desi Sounds is a bad idea for this site. ITs juz inappropriate in my opinion to be linked with the subject of Shaheeds. Our shaheeds woudn't have and likely DID NOT listen to that kind of music...its juz bad...consider taking that link off..
  5. okayyyyyy...so heres the info I got so far...also emailed united sikhs.org but didnt' get a reply yet...: http://www.unitedsikhs.org/PressReleases/P...-10-2005-00.htm to send donation (link is provided in the united sikhs bulletin): http://www.neworleansgurdwara.org/ and I have heard from the people who went there that they are planning to rebuild the gurdwara sahib more inland close to Baton Rouge.
  6. yeah, some people have started coming back to new orleans and have opened their shops for business. I'll try to find out if people can donate maya for the renovation of that gurdwara...not sure if I will find any info...but worth a try.

  8. http://www.panthic.org/news/123/ARTICLE/1849/2005-10-02.html A community in shock Sunday 2nd October, 2005 Gurleen Kaur - Panthic Weekly Staff A large Saroop (body) of Guru Granth Sahib Ji at Darbar Sahib, Amritsar Sahib (File Photo) Toronto, Canada (KP) - As the community here was revving up to celebrate the Gurpurb of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, a father and son came across the remains of a saroop (body) of Guru Granth Sahib Jee in a state that no one ever hopes they see. It was at bluffers park in Scarborough that this heart wrenching occurrence took place. As they walked along the rocks, their eye came upon a piece of paper stuck between some stones, on closer inspection they realized that there was Gurbani written on it. As they turned and looked around they realized that Guru Ji’s angs (literally limbs, or pages) were strewen all over the rocks. With eyes full of tears, father and son collected as many of Guru Ji’s angs as they could, wrapped them in a white t-shirt and brought Guru ji to Dixie Gurudwara Sahib where they told the sevadars what they had seen. A group of Singhs, who do seva of Amrit Sanchar (baptismal service), got together and with the help of the father and son went to Bluffers Park and conducted a thorough search of the area. What they saw tore at their hearts and souls. Guru Ji’s angs were ripped, lying next to beer bottles and cigarette butts, in between rocks. The sevadar were able to rescue all except approximately 300 of Guru Ji’s angs. Wrapped in a ramala sahib, the Singhs lifted Guru Ji’s injured body on to their heads and headed back to Dixie Road Gurudwara Sahib, where the other angs lay. There was an outcry from the sangat, or congregation, as word got out to find out who had committed this terrible crime. Was it an accident or had someone done this intentionally to hurt the Sikh community? Word got out and questions were being asked, there was a plea for anyone to come forward if they had any details of the crime. The police were informed just in case this turned out to be a hate crime. Malton Gurudwara Sahib hosted a Nagar Kirtan for the Gurpurb of Guru Granth Sahib Ji and it was on the same day that they announced a reward of CAD$51,000 if anyone had any information on this heinous crime. The following day two ladies, a woman and her daughter, came to Dixie Gurdwara Sahib and accepted responsibility for the disrespect and desecration of the saroop of Guru Granth Sahib Jee. The mother is an 86 year old widow and a native of Kenya. She lives with her son, who has unstable mental health, and her daughter, who brought her to the Gurdwara and lives on her own. Jagjit Singh Bhullar, told the Punjab Star that this woman completely admitted that her son had committed this act and he does not have normal mental capacity. The lady informed the Singhs that it had been a month since everything had taken place. After Guru Ji’s Saroop was desecrated by her son, she brought Guru Ji’s saroop to bluffers park, did Japji Sahib, Ardas (prayers) and then put Guru Ji, wrapped in plastic with weights attached, into the Lake. She stated that traditionally, they only did 'Jal Parva' in Kenya or respect through flowing water, instead of sanskar, or cremation. How Guru ji’s body came out of the ramala sahib and the plastic remains unknown as of yet. Some members of the media also arrived at the place where the incident took place--upset with the Gurdwara committee as they had not allowed the media to even take photographs or interview the two women. The committee responded that they considered it their responsibility to quickly and discretely remove the women from the location as the situation had become so tense that anything could have happened. The committee has announced that on October 2, after Akhand path dhe bhog (continuous recital of Guru Granth Sahib), the lady will be brought in front of the sangat where she will then tell the sangat what happened and apologize. It will then be up to the sangat what the next steps are and how, if at all, the family should be punished. Many say that in Gurbani someone who has accepted their wrongdoing and asks for forgiveness, should be forgiven. While others say that disrespecting Guru Ji, even if it is an accident, should not have happened. The Editors can be reached at editors@panthic.org
  9. I think 5 and 5 would work...then theres equal number and nothing stupid should happen then. sad thing is that its the men trying to protect themselves from kaam by leaving out the women .....if men can't control themselves even in darbar sahib while doing seva then i think its the men who shouldn't be allowed to do that seva. but 5 men and 5 women with that duty is best. amritsar does have local women too! another thing to note is that the people (men and women) who are fighting to get a bucket to do seva at harimandar sahib never do that same seva in their local pind gurdwara. They think that doing it at harimandar sahib will cleanse them real good or something. But doing the same seva of cleaning the place at village gurdwara=same amount of devotion and sharda. These ppl never look in their local gurdwara if theres dead rats under the manji sahib or in sachkhand but they'll fight for a bucket in harimandar sahib. Those kinds of ppl are juz looking at the gold...
  10. the gap between reality and ideology juz got wider with this. Refer to the sikhtoons cartoon....its rightly put, "THOU SHALL NOT SERVE" juz cuz ur A FEMALE. panj pyare represent the Guru, and if they make these kind of sexist rules that don't represent what our Guru said, then they is NOT the guru!
  11. Theres this new show on tv called My Name is Earl and I saw the commercial for next week Tuesday's episode...its gonna have a sardar in there. I haven't seen any previous episodes but from the commercials it seems like a comedy thing...so I don't how they gonna incorporate a sardar in there. Its coming on tv at 8 or 9pm...forgot what channel but I think fox 40...and thats pacific time...dunno what other countries that show is coming in.
  12. ohhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHH so THATS how it works eh? : the ppl in the poster get to make the poster.....hmmmmmmmm....I seeeee now.... yesss...there should be a secret prize for going to all 3... :e:
  13. Even I don't know the answer yet, but its NOT anything that happened in 1984. So its not INdra grandhi... thats all i'm gonna say for now :TH:
  14. VICKY SINGH U R A CHEATER! juz jokin..its ok (maybe, i dunno...have to check wit the president) hmm....I will see whats the right answer and tell you what it is :TH:
  15. I think the parchaar associated with certain jathas is causing more division than unity. I've never been around any one jatha in particular but its probably safe to say that all of them have done lots of parchaar; however, in the end they have divided us more with different rehit maryadas. So we got panj pyare at this amrit sanchar saying one thing...and next weekend amrit sanchar with different people as panj pyare are saying a slightly differnt thing cuz they added something new in there. The best parchaar out there that I see is when I see an amritdhari sikh  Makes my head turn in his/her direction and reminds me of everything about sikhi and why I'm still not a sikh. politics is definitely messing up the parchaar though. I dont' understand becuase we got miri/piri concept and akal takht was to handle political issues (i think) but the system isn't working now Why are some sikh student organizations more successful than others? Do they just have more sikhs participating who ACTUALLY are interested in sikhi? Whereas other college/uni campuses have the regular punjabi cleanshaven/haircut ppl who would rather party? Is there any way to interest these people? I"m not talking about converting people but I just dont' get it....what do THEY want to see? Why does the punjabi culture end up being victorious? The culture scene has soooo many singers today and general punjabi population is up to date with the latest hits.....and these same punjabi ppl who claim to be sikhs know nothing about the raagi/dhaadhi/kathavachaks of today. They know nothing about anyone's latest album of kirtan. They know where's the next mela or when is jazzy bains coming to local town but they never hear about bhai x singh coming to the local gurdwara all the way from india. i'm so lost in this kinda stuff...i think i should stop thinking now.... _oh_OLD:
  16. cool...its nice to see ppl with different views on how well sikhi is today. Personally i think its going downhill when i look outside. IF a good parchaaric arises to lead us then he either dies young or critics will slander and trash someone cuz they can't take it. anyway..come one ppl. i know theres more than 11 ppl on this forum.. VOTE!
  17. Do you think the parchaar that is happening today by various parchaarics is effective or not in promoting Sikhism? What modifications should or could be made to the methods of attracting the youth towards Sikhi? What is your local community (for example: gurdwara and its managing commitee) doing to address the issue of youth who are getting into drugs and other anti-gurmat activities/behaviors? What can Sikh student associations do to tackle this problem? Is it ok for a person to make gurmat parchaar their only means of income or should they be doing another job/career and do gurmat parchaar on the side? (If the question is unclear I mean should a person do a job 5 days a week 9 to 5, and do parchaar in the evenings and weekends as a hobby type of thing?) ------------------ If you have any other relevant comments please do post! I'm curious to see what the sangat here thinks about the overall picture of sikhi today...if gurmat parchaar is happening for the right reasons or is just a source of income and maya for the parchaarics who can't or don't do another job.
  18. i liked the new photos on there of punjab ....look so calm and blissful...like so peaceful.
  19. woww  so whats the special occasion? are sikhs allowed to take their kirpan with them in airplanes when traveling now?
  20. i thought the 4 legs of dharam were: granthi gurdwara parchaar and i forgot the last one...and i'm not sure if parchaar is really one of em. Learned about last year...and I"ve forgotten it already  ...but gurdwara and granthi were definitely 2 of em. this is why sikhi is kinda in a crappy situation (no offense) cuz even the granthis in some gurdwaras are doing manmat for ppl... doing dhaage taweeet stuff, and blowing in the water fro someone to drink....all this pakhand. and parchaarics are not encouraging ppl to shak amrit...hardly ever mention it. They never do at my local gurdwara! (and then if someone does, he turns into a sant..and gets bashed by other sikhs ) anyway yeh...sad picture from my perspective...if anyone could verify the 4 legs of dharam that'd be great refresher, cuz i've forgotten em.
  21. Never jump to conclusions; gather as much information as you can before making up your mind about any issue. Keep an open mind; don't let your existing views blind you to new information or conclusions. Always ask "How?" as in "How was the evidence obtained?" Be skeptical; always wonder about why someone is making an argument, offering a conclusion, or trying to pursuade you. Never be stampeded into accepting some view because others acept it. Be aware of the facts that your own emotions can strongly influence your thinking, and try to hold such effects to a minimum. (source: Baron, Robert A.; Kalser, Michael J. Psychology From Science to Practice. USA, Pearson Education, Inc. 2005. ) juz some useful stuff to remember when one party starts bashing another party. : .......cuz it leads to more of this ........and also this :
