  1. Most of the time you just have to push it in a bit and it should pop out instead of forcibly taking it out.
  2. Why does this only happen in the UK and not in any other western countries?

  4. Yea, I agree the poem and the photo don't really compliment one another. I just wanted to add that the focal point of this shabad is at the beginning "gurasikhee baareek hai kha(n)ddae dhhaar galee ath bheerree||". khandedhaar galee ath bheeree is a metaphor for saying that the path is subtle and difficult, the way it relates to the picture is how climbing a tree is not really a walk in the park, you have to climb stem by stem and it takes effort, same way, walking on the path of gursikhee takes effort as well, if we weren't attacked by the punj vikaar then it WOULD be a walk in the park and anyone would be able to reach sachkhand, BUT we all know it takes EFFORT to control the punj vikaars.
  5. Some of these comments are uncalled for, what if he took amrit and became a singh, would you still say the same thing? By calling him names, weird, and making fun of him you're just doing his nindya and cleaning his paap. Manda kise naa akhiye parh akhar eho bujjhiye| We should be happy that he's beginning his journey to God.
  6. Smile, my friends, my soulful friends, smile. Let us smile. True, this world of ours is full of suffering and excruciating pangs, but that is no reason why we should not smile. We must smile in order to unburden the world's suffering-burden. We must smile in order to diminish its untold pangs. Love, my friends, my soulful friends, love. Let us love. True, this world of ours is full of hatred and disbelief, but that is no reason why we should not love and why we should not believe. We must love and believe in order to empty the hatred-sea. We must love and believe in order to break asunder the cliffs and peaks of disbelief-mountain. Claim, my friends, my soulful friends, claim. Let us claim. True, this world of ours has deceived us and betrayed us. Nevertheless, we must claim the world, for it is our bounden duty to change the face of the world. Unless and until we claim the world, we can never transform this world; therefore, we must claim this world as our own, very own, with a view to transforming it. Finally, we must not forget to smile at our Beloved Supreme, to love our Beloved Supreme and to claim our Beloved Supreme, for He is our Eternity's own, and we are His Eternity's own. We shall smile at our Beloved Supreme precisely because He is divinely great. We shall love our Beloved Supreme precisely because He is supremely good. We shall claim our Beloved Supreme precisely because we are His Eternity's chosen instruments. Him to please in His own way, Him to fulfil in His own way-it is for this we all saw the light of day. He is our Source. In Him we see, in Him we feel, in Him we fulfil our journey's course. Smile, love and claim. This world of ours is undoubtedly a projection of our Beloved Supreme, although it is far from perfection. But there will come a time when we shall be able to radically transform the face of this world and turn it into Perfection-Reality. Let us smile at God, love Him and claim Him, for He is all-where only for us, unconditionally for us. - sri chinmoy
  7. Hate is a strong word Its not a tuk, tuk is a line, you can call this a shabd/stanza and its from Bhai Gurdass Jee's vaaraan which are panth parvaan, a key to gursikhi/gurbani as said by many. Can you explain how this shabd is not in line with guru sahib's teachings/gurmat? I just want to know what he said is not sikhi?
  8. yea I know, I tried to merge the topic with another one, but your name came up on top so I just edited your post and posted it in there, I hope you don't mind.

  10. ~*~~*~~*~~*~ ~*~~*~~*~ ~*~~*~~*~ ~*~ THE POWER OF POSITIVE SIKHI By Harjit Singh Lakhan So you want to be a Sant-Sipahi (Saint-Warrior) , the perfect human being as created by Guru Gobind Singh Ji? You want to be a pure saint with light of WaheguruJi radiating from you day and night and you want to be a healthy, wealthy fighting fit warrior riding into all the battles of life with the sword of WaheguruJi's power held high and coming out victorious? EXPECT THE BEST ARE YOU: Optimistic, enthusiastic and hopeful? OR : Pessimistic, cynical and despairing? The most obvious quality of a Sant-Sipahi is an attitude of optimism and enthusiasm. Sant-Sipahi understand the link between the mind and body. The body and soul becomes what the mind thinks. Sant-Sipahi read the Guru's words and apply them to their life. Guru's words prophesise that we will become one with the Supreme Being, the Sant-Sipahi believes the True Guru and day by day the prophecy gets closer and closer to being fulfilled. They see themselves as a river that is winding its way towards the Ocean of Supreme Light and Bliss. The person that doesn't believe in the Guru's words with all their heart and mind, normally has negative thoughts inside them. They expect something bad to happen, they suffer from fears and worries which turn into anxiety. Being distressed their body's hormones and antibodies change, the person becomes more prone to disease and accidents. It has been shown that stressful thinking can cause many minor ailments such as headaches, low back pain, ulcers and certain allergies. The Saint-Soldier expects to be healthy and happy because they have the Guru's grace upon them. Their feeling of well-being and energy is radiated by their body. They bloom like flowers for all to see. In their mind they are singing the songs of joy, the words of the Guru, they are praising all of Creation and repeat Waheguru ! Waheguru! They've learnt this from Guru Nanak Dev Ji. On his travels he came close to the abode of a sect of Hindu Saints. They felt threatened by yet another saint entering their town, so they sent Guru Nanak Ji a bowl full to the brim with milk. It symbolised the town was full of saints and there was no room for Guru Nanak. Guru Nanak was forever optimistic and placed a small yellow Jasmin flower to float on the milk. He sent this back to the saints - they understood Guru Nanak's message and that he wasn't there to displace them but to spread the divine fragrance amongst them. Saint-Soldiers expect the best because they know GuruJi's grace is upon them. They have given mind, body and soul to the service of GuruJi and GuruJi will give them everything in return. This was taught to us by Guru Angad Dev Ji, he followed Guru Nanak Ji's love-filled words precisely and battled with his own thoughts, day by day he changed and grew spiritually until ultimately Guru Nanak Dev Ji joined his soul into the Supreme Soul from where we came. Saint-Soldiers say: 'By the Guru's grace I was good today, and I'll be even better tomorrow'. Ones lacking faith say: 'With my luck I was bound to fail' SELF-TEST ? Am I optimistic about my life? ? Do I expect to be blessed with becoming one with WaheguruJi? ? Do I expect to be really healthy? ? When I have a setback do I take self-pity? ? Do I praise or criticise more often? POSITIVE ACTIONS 1. Wake up happy. Wake up early. Sing Waheguru! Wonderful God! Sing your favourite shabad in the shower. Sing your prayers in a happy way. In Ardas ask for GuruJi's blessings and the gift of singing God's praises in a positive way all day. Thank GuruJi because you know he is taking care of all your activities and removing all worldly and spiritual obstacles from your path. Look at yourself in the mirror and thank Guru Gobind Singh Ji for giving you the form of a complete human being with long uncut hair. Feel the Guru's divine hand over your forehead protecting you all day like an umbrella blocking the stormy rain. 2. Think positive thoughts during the day like, 'By Guru's Kirpa, Next time I'll do better', 'By Guru's Kirpa everything is going to work out just fine', 'I'm so blessed to have Guru Gobind Singh Ji as my father and the whole of the Khalsa as my family'. 3. Look for something good in all your personal relationships even in the most trying circumstances. See WaheguruJi inside everyone you deal with, so no matter how irritating they may be remember it is ultimately WaheguruJi that is inside them. So smile and think Wonderful WaheguruJi. 4. Look at problems as opportunities that are going to get you closer to GuruJi. To overcome the problem you're going to pray more sincerely and lean on GurujI for more support and not blame him for it. 5. Learn to stay relaxed and friendly no matter how stressed you are. Accept whatever God does is for your benefit and there's no point upsetting everyone around you. Look for something to praise. Be constructively helpful rather than critical. Lower your voice, breathe slowly and deeply, relax your muscles and respond calmly in the GurSikh way like Guru Amar Das Ji did when he was kicked by the jealous Datu. GuruJi massaged his foot and said, 'My hard bones must have hurt you'. Datu's anger was appeased. Return kindness for evil, not a tooth for a tooth. 6. Look after your health. Cure the curable, expect to get better you've got GuruJi on your side. Prevent what's preventable. Eat healthy and nutritional food, your body and mind are the Temple of WaheguruJi. One day Guru Nanak Dev Ji is going to place his divine light inside your temple so make sure it has strong and pure foundations. Make sure it has no junk food lying in the corners and no negative or dirty thoughts lingering in the shadows. That is why Guru Gobind Singh jee has taught us drinking, smoking, drugs are totally wrong for the Sant-Sipahi. 7. When talking about your health talk optimistically, when asked "how are you?" reply positively -'I'm feeling good, great', don't say 'not bad'. Guru Gobind Singh Ji said that when one Sikh is brave enough to fight against 125,000 then and only then can he justify being called Guru Gobind Singh. Be optimistic - be brave feel like you are healthy enough to battle against the whole of the crowd at the football stadium if need be. 8. Expect the best of others. Encourage them and praise them daily. Tell them your optimistic hopes for them. Guru Gobind Singh Ji expected the best from us that's why he named us Singh (Lion) and Kaur (Princess). So whenever we said our name we'd remember we are great people destined for great things. We are not dirty rats but mighty lions and we are not slave girls but royal princesses with honour and glory. 9. To stay optimistic associate with optimistic people. Meet with Sant-Sipahis and positive people from all walks of life.
  11. Hukam on Parallel Parkaash of Sri Dasam Granth Translation of Gurmatta: Today, date 23 Jeth Nanakshahi 540 (6th June 2008), the Five Singh Sahibaan have gathered at Sri Akaal Takht Sahib and passed the following. The 300th anniversary of the Gurgaddi diwas of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is an opportunity to highlight the concept and authority of "Guru Granth-Guru Panth". The last order of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji was "Sabh Sikhan Ko Hukam Hai, Guru Maaniyo Granth" and that the Panth accept Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as his Living Light and stand strong on this. To overcome all challenges, the Sikh Panth has sought guidance from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Debates presented in relation to Sri Dasam Granth are totally needless. No one has the right to present a questionable debate on the writings from Dasam Granth which the Panth has accepted and uses for the Sikh Rehit Maryada, Nitnem and Amrit Sanchaar. The whole Panth should be reminded that Sri Dasam Granth is an inseparable part of Sikh history, but Guru Gobind Singh Ji did not give it equal status to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and for this reason no other Granth can be Prakaash equal to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. 14. ghorandhar jeeo, I agree with everything you've said, one thing I wanted to add is that the way raags in general are sung have changed/developed since the times of guru sahibaans, even in Indian shastari sangeet the raag system has changed/developed, the elitist don't like the infiltration of the vaja by the british in their sangeet either because the original way was through tanti saaz, and nowadays shastri sangeet in India is not very common per the masses, and its no different in Sikhi today either. But going back to the development of the raag system, same way with raags in SGGSJ the way of singing them in their specified raag has been slightly modified because the parampara has not been documented in writing, at the same time it can't really be put on paper as its music, and must be taught/passed down from generation to generation, similar to seena baseena rehat that has been passed down like it was to Bhai Avtaar Singh jee, who was born in 1925 where his father, Bhai Sahib Jwala Singh Ji was an accomplished Ragi, who imparted his knowledge of Gurmat Sangeet to Bhai Sahib Avtar Singh Ji and his older brother Bhai Sahib Gurcharan Singh Ji, who together were the eleventh generation exponents of gurbani keertan as per maryada from the time of our guru sahibaans. So going back to the topic, I've seen there are two points of discussions, some feel as though its not important to sing in raag because you should connect with the bani being sung in keertan, and some would argue that saying, the correct way of connecting to gurbani in keertan should be through the correct way of singing the shabad. Lets look at it this way, why is there a need to do santhya? To learn the correct way of pronouncing gurbani and understanding where to pause and where not to pause, which is the primary reason many mispronounce gurbani, the same goes for singing keertan, there's a a correct way of performing keertan, I don't always do keertan in raag or nidharat raag for that matter, but I've been told that there's a raag for almost every tune. The point is, if there's a correct way of reciting gurbani, there has to be a correct way of singing keertan. Today, we pick and choose what we want to beleive maybe that's where the problem is.
  15. I remember reading a article a while back where someone predicted that, that's how Khalistan is going to be formed.
  16. This pauri came to mind: ਮਨ ਤੂੰ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਹੈ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥ Man ṯūʼn joṯ sarūp hai āpṇā mūl pacẖẖāṇ. Guru Sahb is telling us to direct our mind to the truth, the origin of it all, akaal purkh vaheguru, he is your origin. This is what you need to recognize and once you recognize this origin, which I feel like you are starting to with guru sahb's kirpaa all other things automatically fall into place like bani/bana/rehat/seva/simran, you just have to develop love for guru sahib, love for gursikhi, if your love is strong then you won't look back, but if your mind is weak, and your love is weak it will always wander in 10 directions, and this love will ONLY develop through bani/simran/sangat. ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣੁ ॥ Man har jī ṯerai nāl hai gurmaṯī rang māṇ. Next he says, O mind, har jee is always with you and through the guru's teachings, the guru's wisdom, the guru's grace, rang maan, enjoy his love, this also has the answer to your question of pleasures, rang maan means to enjoy the bliss of peace and tranquility, which you can't receive from the pleasures of maya. ਮੂਲੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਤਾਂ ਸਹੁ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਮਰਣ ਜੀਵਣ ਕੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥ Mūl pacẖẖāṇėh ṯāʼn saho jāṇėh maraṇ jīvaṇ kī sojẖī ho▫ī. Understand your true origin, and then you'll get to know akaal purkh vaheguru, in worldly relations of family/friends, we get to know people by spending time with them, the same way, the time spent on japping naam, reading gurbani we get to know vaheguru, we begin to love him for him, and understand why we are on this earth and why we are born, why we die. ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਤਾਂ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ Gur parsādī eko jāṇėh ṯāʼn ḏūjā bẖā▫o na ho▫ī. So how do we get to know HIM better? Only by Guru sahib's kirpaa. Once Guru sahb bestows his grace and blesses his gursikh, only then does the gursikh begin to develop his/her jeevan and gives up all other loves of people/maya. ਮਨਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਆਈ ਵਜੀ ਵਧਾਈ ਤਾ ਹੋਆ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥ Man sāʼnṯ ā▫ī vajī vaḏẖā▫ī ṯā ho▫ā parvāṇ. Peace comes to the mind, like you wanted, and congratulations resound, once you understand the teachings of guru sahib, you start to jap naam, recite gurbani, and start following rehat, which includes starting to practice wearing your kakaars, not indulging in drugs/sex, keeping good company, and building yourself to the step of taking amrit, notice I said step, because there's a long journey that follows.. I▫o kahai Nānak man ṯūʼn joṯ sarūp hai apṇā mūl pacẖẖāṇ. ||5|| In this way, with a combination of uddam (effort) and kirpa (guru's grace), you will recognize that you are the image of vaheguru and if you follow the teachings of guru sahib you will realize your true purpose in life. My two cents, bhul chuk muaaf karnee.
  17. Good post. ghorandhar also has a good point.
  18. Not everyone is born into Sikhi, you can't be born a Sikh. I'm sure many use to listen to Hindi/Punjabi songs before they got into Sikhi which they remember, when the tune is replayed at the gurdwara sahib, which I feel is an inappropriate place for it, hence the title 'Inappropriate Vaja Tunes', many have been exposed to that type of music so these tunes are kind of like a reminder, which shouldn't be happening in the first place, the tunes have been given to us in the form of raags, if one doesn't have sufficient knowledge of raags then they make up tunes, I think that's fine, but when one starts to COPY tunes from a hindi movie, I think that is inappropriate.
  19. Anyone who tries to discuss controversial topics and/or causing trouble they'll get a warning, please stick to the topic of the event, the bibia in punj has been discussed before, and raagmala discussion is not allowed.
