  1. Don't do it, keep faith in Guru Sahib and keep doing ardas, seva etc. Gurbani says that people who beg from many doors are no better than dogs. When Bhagat Namdev Ji was being tortured to convert him to Islam, his mother asked him to start saying Allah, to please the Muslims but he refused on principle and disowned his mum. I guarantee that your mother will not stop talking to you - it's just emotional black mail. Do ardas for her as well.
  2. You can downloadit from here: http://www.ik13.com/online_library.html
  3. Go pesh, ask for forgiveness and don't do it again! Change the sangat you keep if you need to.
  4. Good advice, but most Debit Cards work worldwide these days.
  5. How do you know the letter before the Hukamnama is taken?
  6. Mod note: have removed all the personal comments, please keep on track.

    Help- Baby Names

It all depends on what letter Guru Sahib gave for the name to start with. What was it?
  8. I do live in the UK and have lived in Birmingham (next to a Mosque, lol), Slough and London. Again, you say that the majority of the Muslim community is 'hardline'. Which survey did you carry out? How do you know how many people are under surveillance by the MI5? No Muslims that I know approve of the bombings - in fact they strongly condemn those actions. You are right that something needs to be done to counter ideologies of hate but condemning an entire religion or community just gives more fuel to the extremists within them. Read what Gurbani has to say on the matter of tolerance for different religions. Of course, if you do find yourself being attacked or bullied, then you must defend yourself. I'm not disputing that, I just have a problem with labelling an entire community because of what a few of them have done. That is no different to people in India who see every Amritdhari as a terrorist or to people who see a turban and immediately think 'taliban', etc. Our puratan Rehatnamas tell us to be careful of certain things with respect to Islam e.g. not eating from Muslims (this is VERY important, even today), not getting involved with their women etc. But they never teach to wipe out the community. Gurbani actually gives advise to Muslims telling them how to be better Muslims.
  9. You can't apply your points to the entire Muslim community in the UK. There are small fanatic groups, but on the whole, there is no problem. 'Generalisation' isn't a cool word to use, as you put it. As soon as you place generalisation into an argument, it becomes illogical. A community didn't blow up buses or planes, it was individuals. The ones who didn't kill themselves were found and arrested. Their sharia courts only apply to civil cases, and if they choose to use them. There were already similar Jewish courts. I know there is a problem with some sectors of their community and some of their ideologies, but they have to be countered in a logical way so that you don't make it an 'us' vs 'them' scenario. If you do that, you're no different to a racist.
  10. The more the better. There is no upper limit on the amount of Gurbani we can read.
  11. In addition to what Sunsingh has said, some people being born today could have died thousands of years ago, gone through narak/sachkhand/other lifeforms etc. You need to look into the whole theory of karma and what happens to the atma. Deep Katha of Gurbani by Sant Gurbachan Singh Ji is a good place to start, but this isn't something that you can understand in one day.
  12. Check Bhai Nand Lal Ji's Tankahnama/ Rehitnama - think the second one os from there, but there is similar stuff in Sri Sarbloh Granth as well.
  13. disturbing... When you take Amrit, you put everything in Guru Ji's hands, so nothing to worry about. Assuming you're a Singh from your name, what difference does it make to them whether or not you get married? Anyway, there are plenty of Amritdhari bibiya.
  14. Where did you get the article from (is it a copy&paste - if so, which website)? Whoever wrote it was wrong about some of the things he says about Suraj Parkash. At the end of the day, I'd rather trust Khalsa tradition over an authorless, dateless article that mysteriously appeared after hundreds of years.
  15. Not necessarily a link between the two, Japan and Chile both lie along fault lines. Earthquakes happen all the time, but since most of the earth is uninhabited (oceans etc), we don't get to hear about them. You can check how often they happen here, with a map of their location/ intensity: (353 in the last 30 days, and that is normal) Iris Seismic Monitor
  16. To be honest, those tuks don't say not to wear make up, you could apply them to clothes, shoes etc. I think make-up is a personal thing because it soesn't affect one's avastha (not that I wear any, lol). Boyfriends/ Girlfriends are not allowed. Both your questions have been discussed many many times - use the search function in future. You can also use Google to search this site via the advanced search function.
  17. You can listen to Katha about Guru Gobind Singh Ji from Suraj Parkash here :Click Here or download and read Suraj Parkash from www.ik13.com
  18. According to Sooraj Parkash and Khalsa oral tradition, backed up by physical evidence, no remains of Guru Ji's body were ever found. Furthermore, not even Guru Ji's shastar were found in the remains of the fire except for one small Kirpan, which had no burn marks and is still displayed to the Sangat at Hazur Sahib to this day.
  19. lsingh - Punjab Radio is a waste of space. The quicker it gets shut down, the better. The Sikh Channel is a different story and deserves our support - simply because it's the only one we have, and at least they aren't a tool for kala afghana propaganda. It's better that our people at home watch Sikh Channel rather than the Christian / Islamic Punjabi channels, or Zee tv etc. Anyway, this topic has run its course.
