  1. The routine itself is fine, it's taken from Mark Rippetoe's book Starting Strength I believe. I'm sure you already know, but in the book Mark strongly recommends that you drink LOTS of milk. I can't recall the exact number he mentioned, you may want to look it up. First thing I would recommend rather strongly is to get your form checked on every exercise; from a qualified strength training coach preferably. You'd be surprised how much difference it can make. Your progress isn't all that bad, everyone progresses at a different rate. So long as you are making progress, it is fine. If the progress has stalled, it's time to shake things up a little. I do see you have listed protein sources, but what about good old fashion solid food? What does your diet look like. For any serious trainees, diet will be 70% ish of the effort. If it's not good, you are asking for trouble, no progress, or worse, an injury. - do you any balance work? - any rehabilitation work? - stretching? - how much rest are you getting? I'd have to see you do the exercises to really anything more than that.
  2. I figured might as well put this post in the correct section
  3. Payarey younger brother, as per Gurmat, this is completely wrong. You are only 16, there is still probably about 10years before you can get married. To concern yourself with marriage at such a young age simply does not make any sense. Concentrate on Sikhi, studies, sports etc which will help a great deal in finding a good mate when it's time to get married. It will also help you get over your little crush on her. Another thing to note is that people change completely in a matter of months, one can only imagine how much change 10 years will make to a person. So even though you may think she's a good person right now, who knows where she and you will be in about 10 years. If all of that didn't make any sense, ask yourself this question. Can you tell your parents about this girl without any fear and shame?
  4. Shucks, I just wrote a long post and it didn't get posted. So I will summarize. It is perfectly fine to have carbs, provided they are healthy carbs. By that I mean whole wheat or whole grain carbs. Stay as far as you can from white starchy carbs, things like white bread cause a lot of issues in the body. Your body has 2 distinct mechanism by which it breaks down fat/food for energy; i) uses stored fat, and ii) uses the food eaten. There has been conclusive research done which showed how the body processes a high carb meal. For this research, test subjects are put into three groups and fed them a high carb meal, pasta. Group 1: was idle, not doing any activity Group 2: did a light to moderate workout - brisk walking; light jogging etc Group 3: did a high intensity workout - heavy weights, circuits, intense cardio etc Following was discovered: Group 1: As they were inactive, when they ingested the pasta meal, their bodies stopped using it's fat stores for energy completely. In addition to that, the pasta eaten was mostly stored as fat as well. Group 2: After the moderate workout, when they ingested the pasta meal, their bodies ability to use fat stores for energy largely diminished. Some of the eaten pasta was used for energy but about 30-40% was stored as fat still Group 3: After the intense workout, when they ingested the pasta meal, their bodies ability to use fat stores for energy largely remained unchanged. In fact, for some test subject this accelerated even. A key point to note here is that the eaten pasta meal was NOT stored as fat and almost all of it was used for recovery purposes. Even a few hours after this intense workout, their body was still using the eaten meal + the fat stores for energy. Resulting in a much larger calorie expenditure than the other 2 groups. Case in point, have all the healthy carbs you can after your workout and you will be fine. If you do not have carbs post workout, your body's ability to repair itself diminishes to a large extend. So you will be sore for longer which in turn will mean that you will not be able to workout to your full potential for a longer period of time as well. It's now well established that carbs are not bad for you, it's a matter or timing and amount. If you want to loose fat, it's a simple matter of keeping your calorie intake marginally smaller than what you expend through out the day. The thing to remember is that, the difference should not be too large or your body will either go into starvation mode where it will being to store as much eaten food as possible as fat or it will not be able to repair itself post workout. By and large, it does not matter where the calories are coming from, although there is some debate on this.
  5. Protein shakes can be helpful in gaining strength and muscle mass. However, they should only be used as a supplement in addition to one's regular diet. More often than not, people think that having protein shakes will make them big and strong, which is simply not true. If you do this, you will likely cause damage to your body in the long run. If you structure your diet correctly, there is really not a need for protein shakes. Most people don't even know how much protein, minerals/amino acids (which is mostly what you get from protein shakes) they have in their diet to begin with. Then it makes no sense to have more of these as you may well be having too much! PS. Please do not go off topic and start this halal debate over here too now.
  6. Whey based isolate is perfectly fine for vegetarians. Make sure you get isolate, it is a bit expensive but highest quality protein out there.
  7. Wrong. Doing regular weight training will result in more free flowing testosterone in the body. Running is much better to regulate hormones in the body.
  8. ^ The best thing to do here would be to confront the individuals, clearly you know who they are. I'm not sure how much a post on a forum will accomplish, probably nothing.

  10. Sorry to go off topic but with out love, it's just two animals doing it...While it is quite possible to reproduce with out love, but to do it the "right" way, love is the first and foremost requirement!
  11. Wow! I did not know such machines existed! Very cool. Fixing a tabla, especially a dugga by hand is extremely tough on the hands.
  12. Was that sarcasm? I'm not sure.Love is connected to anything and everything, without love there is nothing.
  13. *sigh* As I've said in the past, if you knew that your parents are pro caste, why did you get into this panga and more importantly stay in this panga for 3 years?! Kids these days man...
  14. Veerji/Bhenji, Guru Sahib is not a body either
  15. That ASSOCIATED CANADIAN THEOLOGICAL SCHOOLS "University" is nothing, it's a no name 'educational' institution and very likely run privately. So relax and have a cup of mango lassi. Also, all the things we hear happening in UK makes me glad I'm in Canada. Yes there have been a few off odd things (which is almost expected) but over all its a really good place to live.
  16. Diet is about 70-75% of the efforts for a large majority I think you mean HIGH metabolism, not low. People with low metabolism gain weight very easily while the ones with high can seemingly eat everything in sight still not gain weight. Also, just because one is skinny does not mean they are fit.
  17. Poor carbs, they have gotten a bad rep for no reason.
  18. Yes, I would highly recommend that you do p90 first. Finish that and then move on to p90x.
  19. What do you expect when Sikhs are turning people away and putting other's down every chance they get. It can be for any reason, their poor financial status, or their 'lower caste', or the fact that they may not have good education etc. Whatever the case may be, every human deserves some respect, which as I have personally seen is not given to many, especially the poor. Have you seen the condition of servants in Punjabi homes? They are treated like dogs! When someone is in need for help, we turn a blind eye to it. You don't have to go far to see this, it has happened on this very forum many times in the past. On the other hand, the Christian organizations are actively seeking out the poor and needy, offering them a helping hand. Think about it, if you were in terrible financial shape and had a hard time putting food on the table and some Christian person came an gave you help, it would naturally make you curious about Christianity. All we Sikhs are doing is using all the money we have to build big gurudwara buildings, instead, we should be helping the poor and the needy. 99.99% of the population does not care about religion when they can not put food in their stomach and roof over their head. Every thing else is secondary to roti (food), kapra (clothing), makaan (housing).
  20. All you need is daal + roti + dahi (maybe milk) and you will be strong. Don't need anymore protein than that. The figure you normally see in body building forms is 1 gram of protein for every pound of body weight. This is a completely useless figure. Even olympic level athletes do not have that much protein. I'm sure we can all agree that those athletes are some of the fittest people on the planet. I'm just saying that don't put too much emphasis on protein, eat a balanced diet, exercise and keep your stress level low. That's the key to living a healthy life. Obviously your protein intake is not non existent. I'm sure you have daal, roti, dahi. You'd be surprised how many good vitamins and minerals daal has. It also has plenty of protein.
  21. I have a question for people asking about high protein foods. Do you guys go intensive weight training? If you do not, then you do not need a lot of protein in your diet. Adding a lot of protein in your diet if you are not doing intensive weight training can even cause damage to kidneys.
  22. First off, many congratulations on shedding the pounds! Even though I'm personally not a fan of snacks, the best snack you can have is the one loaded with vegetables. More veggies the better as they are high in fiber (which will keep you feeling full longer) and very low in calories (which is always a good thing). As per Wikipedia, Hummus seems quite good for you. I would highly recommend that you schedule your meals in such a way that you don't need to have snacks. In the past when I was more into fitness, I used to eat 5 small meals per day. Not once did I need to have a snack.
