  1. This likely won't be a popular post. All the folks saying that caste should not be a problem are correct, at least as far as the theoretical side is concerned. However, in reality, more often than not, caste is the first thing parents look for. Same thing has happened in my family as well. Firstly, I fail to understand what these amritdhari gursikhs are doing 'falling in love for 3 years' in the first place. Let's assume that they did not know that their parents will be so stern with the caste issue. Even then, 25 or so years of love and support the parents have given both kids can not be thrown down the drain for a mere 3 year relationship. On the other hand if they knew that the parents will be stern on the caste issue, then it is their and only their fault for starting this relationship in the first place. For a few weeks I hated my parents for supporting this caste issue myself. But I came to an understanding that while I was correct in saying that caste should not be an issue, they were correct in making it a priority as well. No one is at fault here, the only difference is that I was looking at the issue from a theoretical perspective and my parents look at the issue from a realist perspective. This caste disease has plagued the Sikh nation for far too long, I optimistically hope that it can be eradicated to a large extend with the next generation or two, at least in the western countries. I don't see it going away anytime soon in India however.
  2. This is a 4 year old thread! Nothing to see here people, keep it moving lol
  3. I admit, I did benti to the weather fairy to stop giving us snow. It's almost May!:faint:
  4. I admit, I have been procrastinating big time for the past 3 days, both at work and at home. As if being late for work wasn't enough :rolleyes2: And the Survey says! sleeeep :ashamed:
  5. I admit, I have been 30-54mins late for work almost daily for the past 10 days :rolleyes2:
  6. :happy2: If you read the complete shabad, the last 2 pankti's, it really is a big smack across my face. mhlw 2 ] mehalaa 2 || Second Mehla: slwmu jbwbu dovY kry muMFhu GuQw jwie ] salaam jabaab dhovai karae mu(n)dtahu ghuthhaa jaae || One who offers both respectful greetings and rude refusal to his master, has gone wrong from the very beginning. nwnk dovY kUVIAw Qwie n kweI pwie ]2] naanak dhovai koorreeaa thhaae n kaaee paae ||2|| O Nanak, both of his actions are false; he obtains no place in the Court of the Lord. ||2|| Both of his actions are false, meaning, even the actions when he paid respect to guru sahib will not count! :ohmy2:
  7. I usually leave it at that Yeah, that's the best we can do for now. Until Scientist come up with a term to describe this Universe and others collectively. There isn't one for Earth? I always thought earth was called 'dharti maa'...
  8. I don't think we can find a single word (or a set of words) in this situation to accurately describe the Gurbani words. To be honest, I'm not surprised as this does happen quite often. I don't think ਰਚਨਾ can be used to describe the Universe. The word ਰਚਨਾ pretty much means creation. 'Creation' is such a broad concept that it can be applied to almost anything. For example, I just created this post, eh post meri ਰਚਨਾ hai :biggrin2: Also, if my memory serves me correctly, Gurbani uses the word ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ to describe earth in certain places and universe in others.
  9. Here's how I understand these words ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ = universe ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ = earth/universe As per Mahan Kosh,
  10. I admit to admitting that this thread needs more admittance bump! :biggrin2:
  11. I've met Bhai Jangbir Singh a few times and all I have to say is, he is the man! :respect:
  12. I'm not sure if its millions or billions, chances of human civilization lasting for that long are quite slim anyway. Andromeda is a lot of bigger, so it will gobble and assimilate milky way.
  13. Behold the Hubble Ultra Deep Field :respect: Explanation: What did the first galaxies look like? To help answer this question, the Hubble Space Telescope has just finished taking the Hubble Ultra Deep Field (HUDF), the deepest image of the universe ever taken in visible light. Pictured above, the HUDF shows a sampling of the oldest galaxies ever seen, galaxies that formed just after the dark ages, 13 billion years ago, when the universe was only 5 percent of its present age. The Hubble Space Telescope's NICMOS and new ACS cameras took the image. Staring nearly 3 months at the same spot, the HUDF is four times more sensitive, in some colors, than the original Hubble Deep Field (HDF). Astronomers the world over will likely study the HUDF for years to come to better understand how stars and galaxies formed in the early universe. I'd like to point out that original HDF was done by pointing the pioneering Hubble telescope to what appeared to be a completely empty spot in space, devoid of any matter, for a long time. What we saw, astounded everyone; we saw millions of galaxies! Andromeda is going to collide and cannibalize our own galaxy in a few million years.
  14. 'nazar lagna' is more synonymous with someone having an 'evil eye' rather than spells/black magic.
  15. It really is amazing how small we really are compared to the big scheme of things. Here is another picture on a similar theme. On first impressions this image may look fairly indistinct, but in reality it is perhaps one of the most important photographs ever taken. The tiny blue-white dot, halfway down the brown streak on the right is actually our home planet, the Earth, floating in the dark depths of space, photographed by NASA’s Voyager 1 spacecraft in 1990 from a record distance of 3.7 billion miles. Astronomer Carl Sagan requested that the picture be taken, and he subsequently reflected that ‘all of human history has happened on that tiny pixel, which is our only home.’

    Women'S Dastar...

Just because we are used to seeing things a certain way does not mean that's the only way or the right way.
  17. lol I certainly hope 'kaljugi' was joking about this spell stuff. Oh young one, there is no 'spell', it's just your hormones doing what they are suppose to do.
  18. Yes, that's how it all starts. Seems completely innocent in the beginning. Next stage is attachment, where you will want to be around her all the time, then it will go toward kaam and after that...I don't think I need to spell that out.If not kept in check, this is the beginning of your downfall. I know it sounds harsh but I speak from experience.
  19. In addition to what has already been said, you would want to avoid cold food and drinks. Also avoid foods which produce resha (balgam) in the body.
  20. Here is the litmus test, courtesy of Dhan Dhan Guru Arjan Dev Jee Maharaj srb Drm mih sRyst Drmu ] sarab dhharam mehi sraesatt dhharam || Of all religions, the best religion hir ko nwmu jip inrml krmu ] har ko naam jap niramal karam || is to chant the Name of the Lord and maintain pure conduct. http://sikhitothemax...p?ShabadID=3329
  21. Erm, you do realize that Vaisakhi is not just a Sikh event right? The day has also been used by farmers for centuries to celebrate the time when crops become ripe for harvest.
  22. First of all, it is Baba Sri Chand Jee, not sri chand. When Dhan Dhan Guru Arjan Dev Jee Maharaj showed utmost respect for Baba Jee, why can't we? To be honest, the sakhi as told by CK jatha (I have also heard it from other who practice yoga regularly) never sat well with me. To say that Dhan Guru Arjan Dev Jee got 'stuck' while writing Sukhmani Sahib is blasphemy! First we say Guru sahib is sarab kala samrath, then we say he got 'stuck' doing something, that's a complete contradiction! I'm not sure where CK got that from, but it simply does not make any sense. Lastly, I would take word of Baba Gurbachan Singh Jee and Giani Thakur Singh Jee, over any one else.
  23. From what I have been told the rabab Bhai Mardana Jee played was different that the one Afgan people play.
  24. Be careful here, it looks like you are saying that guru sahib looked down upon non-Sikhs. I think the question is not what Guru Sahib could or could not do, but more toward what really happened. It seems there are conflicting accounts written in history, which does not help shed any light on the actual event. Regardless, I feel it's the outcome that matters the most, Guru Sahib started khalsa panth on the day! :respect:
  25. Erm no, sikhs do listen to your voice too, along with the shabad of course. And you just gave contradictory advice, first you say sikhs wont listen to your voice and then you ask the poster to practice sargam. Make up your mind lol
