  6. Simranjit Singh Mann injured in a clash in Amritsar http://www.zeenews.com/znnew/articles.asp?...385&sid=NAT Kathunangal, Amritsar, Oct 25: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD-Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann was seriously injured in a clash with SAD (Badal) and Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) officials at a function here today, police sources said. According to the police, five to six others from both the sides also sustained injuries. They had been rushed to hospitals in Amritsar. Mann who was attacked with 'kirpans' by members of the SGPC task force, sustained head injuries and has been rushed to a hospital in Amritsar, an eyewitness said. His condition was described as serious. Police sources said the clash took place inside the premises of the historic gurdwara of Baba Buddha Sahib on the occasion of the 500th birth anniversary celebrations of Baba Buddha at a village on the Amritsar-Pathankot National Highway. The village is the birthplace of Baba Buddha, who was the first head granthi (priest) of the Harmandir Sahib, during the period of the fifth Sikh Guru Arjan Dev. According to police sources, the clash took place when Mann and his supporters were stopped by the SGPC task force from attending the birth anniversary function organised by the SAD (Badal) and the SGPC. Mann and his supporters insisted on moving towards the platform on which were seated former Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal, former Haryana Chief Minister O P Chautala, BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, SGPC Chief Avtar Singh Makkar and a number of other senior leaders. A verbal duel ensued between the task force and SAD (Badal) supporters on the one hand and Mann on the other. At this stage supporters of both the groups drew out their swords and advanced at each other. In the meele that followed Mann was hit by a sword on the head and he immediately collapsed in a pool of blood. Mann, a former MP from Sangrur, is the brother-in-law of Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. It is not for the first time that Mann has insisted on attending a function organised by the SGPC and the Badal Dal. An unsavoury situation had erupted when unsheathed swords were brandished during the quadricentennial celebrations of the foundation of Akal Takht at Gurdwara Manji Sahib inside the Golden Temple complex in June when the SGPC refused to give time to Mann to address the Sikh congregation after Badal had finished speaking. Later in July, during a function to mark the 400th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Arjan Dev at Tarn Taran, Mann raised a voice for reviving the Anandpur Sahib draft of 1973 from the stage of SGPC in the presence of BJP national president Rajnath Singh thereby putting Badal in an embarrassing position. The SGPC chief Jathedar Makkar had yesterday warned that the Punjab government would be responsible for any disturbance on the occasion of the birth anniversary celebrations of Baba Buddha. Mann had earlier declared that under no circumstances would his party tolerate that the glorious history of Sikhs be tainted by the participation of Chautala and Sidhu in a religious function. He had stated that the politics of these two political leaders was 'inimical to Sikh and Punjabi interest''. Bureau Report

  9. Waheguru jee ka khalsa waheguru jee kee fateh I have just seen promos of this movie and its look good. I seconded no body should play the character of personality such as Baba Deep Singh Jee. One thing should be noticed that why very few film makers come up for making such inspirational / motivational movies / soaps / animation movie. I think the biggest hindrance is money and piracy. So many times we talk abt ETC Khalsa channel but no news after that. SGPC/ DSGPC / other committees and NRI Sikhs / organizaiton should work in this direction asap. Special aid should be given to produers / makers who are doing good work such as this. I really wish a serial should be come up in major T V Channel reflecting problems / issues related to sikhism. Sikhnet Online movie festival is good step in this direction too. bhulla chukka dee khima Waheguru jee ka khalsa waheguru jee kee fateh

So far SGPC teams, Indian Govt. Officials and also Mrs. Gursharan Kaur (wife of S. Manmohan Singh jee) has visited this place. Every team give assurance etc. but nothing concrete has been done in this direction. Waheguru jee ka khalsa waheguru jee kee fateh ----------------------------------------------------------
  13. Shia community keen to build Sikh shrine in Iraq United News of India New Delhi, April 12, 2006 Fired by their zeal to repay a debt to the Sikhs, India's Shia community has embarked upon a mission to construct a Sikh shrine at Basra in Iraq in the honour of Sikhism founder and first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak. Maulana Kalbe Jawad, India's spiritual head of the Shia community, has decided to lead a delegation of prominent Shia leaders to Iraq to persuade Ayatollah Ali Shistani, the supreme authority of the Shia community the world over, to allow construction of the Sikh shrine at Basra near Baghdad. Zaheer Zaidi, president of the capital-based Husan Ara Trust, said the Shias had never forgotten the great service done by the Sikhs in handing over the shrine of the Eighth Imam at Samana, near Patiala, to them. "Through this gracious act, the Punjab government has set an example of communal amity and now it is our turn to repay them by pooling our efforts for constructing a Sikh shrine in Iraq," he said. As per historical accounts, the Shia community has been blessed with 12 Imams, all of whom trace their ancestry to the Holy Prophet's family. The 8th Imam came to India where he died later. A shrine was built in his memory at Samara, but it fell into disuse after the Shias migrated to Pakistan in the wake of partition. When the Punjab government was apprised by a scholar of the callous neglect of the shrine, it renovated the entire structure at a cost of Rs 32 lakh, and later handed it over the shrine to the Shia community. "The shrine has now emerged as a pilgrimage centre for the Shia community all over the world. During last few days, over two lakh people visited there to pay their obeisance to the 8th Imam," Zaidi said. He also informed that on April 23, the Shias would observe Urs at the shrine. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is expected to participate in the event. Maulana Zawad, who was recently in the capital, held talks with Zaidi and the US-based Islamic propagator Tehzeeb Zaidi, in this connection. It was later decided to construct a Gurdwara in Iraq. A delegation of Shia leaders would visit Najaf in Iraq soon to hold talks with the Ayatollah Shsitani to seek his permission for constructing the Sikh shrine, Zaidi said. Maulana Zawad, also the Chancellor of the Lucknow-based Madrastul Waezeen and Imam-e-Juma there, had written a letter to Zaidi, saying efforts for constructing a Sikh Gurdwara in Iraq should be launched without any delay. "Our Sikh brothers near the tomb of Bahlol Dara at Baghdad will consider the proposal positively. This will also be a part of the birthday celebrations of Prophet Mohammad," he wrote in his letter. 14. Banana Never, put your banana in the refrigerator ! ! ! This is interesting. After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again. Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the; banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes. But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet. Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier. PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood & nb sp glucose levels, which can affect your mood. Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia. Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke. Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert. Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives. Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief. Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness. Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation. Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system. Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady. Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach. Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan. Smoking: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal. Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack. Strokes: According to research in "The New England Journal of Medicine, "eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%! Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape! So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around. So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!" PASS IT ON TO YOUR FRIENDS PS: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time! I Will add one here ------want a quick shine on our shoes?? Take the INSIDE of the banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe...polish with dry cloth. A m a z i n g f r u i t............................ Enjoy ur life today becoz yesterday had gone and Tomorrow may never come...

  16. Waheguru jee ka khalsa waheguru jee kee fateh Thanks for sharing your experience with all the sangat here. Though I can feel the pain you experienced during your visit through these so many manmukh activities. Your experience tell us difference between the real sewa Panth need wrt Parchar and discussing problems on the net. Brother you very rightly mention about the States other Punjab & Delhi where the Sikhi situation is even worse due to lack of Parchar / Sikh Population / Resources etc. Well about how to improve the current situation, I think Parhcar Teams headed by SGPC / DSGPC including like minded organizations / Youth from India / outside India and the local area should be formed and work as per pre planned agenda/ goals. SGPC / DSGPC should recruit Young Educated Parcharak, give them training, offer them handsome salary / career / stability, equip them with the latest technology, motivation such as monetary benefit for early or timely achivements of goals etc. Apart from religious education , education of Sikh familes Kids , career development, health services etc. should also be in the Agenda of these teams. 17. Please talk to them share your views / exprience with them. Encourage them for doing parchar among the youth / kids by organizing camps / gurmat classes etc. bhulla chukka dee maufai Waheguru jee ka khalsa waheguru jee kee fateh
  18. Waheguru jee ka khalsa waheguru jee kee fateh Good to see this issue resolve within 24 hrs. Such issues related to Sikh, his / her identity dos/ don't pops up in various countries world wide. Generally We act after the incident , I would suggest a Central Committee consisting of rep. of Sikhs all over the World headed by Sri Akal Takhat Sahib should made a Presentation / Paper on Sikhism and forward the same world wide through email, courier etc. ( in that particular country national langague too) for their information and knowledge in Advance. So that before making any policy for turban, kesh , kirpan etc. or while resolving any related issue the respective Govt. can refer that Paper. SGPC/ DSGPC should rep. should meet Ambassardors / Diplomats of various countries in Delhi and brief them about religion so that they can also forward direction to their respective countries including immigration department. bhulla chukka dee maufai Waheguru jee ka khalsa waheguru jee kee fateh

  22. Waheguru jee ka khalsa waheguru jee kee fateh Well doing sewa in any form without having any ego, hypocratic feelings & for the welfare of sangat / other people is good. Though I also seconded the point that we should be wise in doing sewa like as we should be wise to use our dasvandh. We should do sewa in the area which actually require it more, no matter how many people are doing it or watching us the other sewa. bhulla chukka dee maufai Waheguru jee ka khalsa waheguru jee kee fateh

  24. Waheguru jee ka khalsa waheguru jee kee fateh Very nice post by Jagjit Jee. The influence of other Anti Panthic Groups can be substanitlly reduced if all the Panthic Groups start coordinate with each other, keep EKTA. Secondly a good number of Anti Panthic elements are working in these Panthic Groups so we need to eliminate them too for the better & effective working. We need Parcharaks / Parchar Group who actually creates bridges among Panthic Institutes in India and abroad. Programmes such as SANJHA KIRTAN DARBAR initiated by Veer Phaldip Singh is a wonderful example of what exactly Panth needs today. Institute like Akal Academyshould also come up in cities where population of sikhs is very less. I know its takes time to build up and create all the required infrastrucute for any project like our Akal Academy or Sikh Missonaries are working but I think they should expeditate their work because its already very late. Similarly Sikhs in India are anxiously waiting for ETC Khalsa T V, God knows whats reasons for delay in it. The Hindu / Muslium Dharam have already running their channels on the national / internationl level. bhulla chukka dee maufai Waheguru jee ka khalsa waheguru jee kee fateh
  25. Waheguru jee ka khalsa waheguru jee kee fateh Damdami Taksal and others are doing well , but I feel Sikhs in India needs Institute / Schools like Baru Sahib for Poor & middle class Sikhs families kids can get both education (Spiritual as well as School) in affordable cost. Plus we drastically need to reform in existing Khalsa Schools run by SGPC / DSGPC. Must enhance / maintains quality of education, no comprormise on recuritment of teachers / staff , flexible fee structures (giving discount to poor & middle class families). bhulla chukka dee maufai Satguru Mehar karan Waheguru jee ka khalsa waheguru jee kee fateh
