  1. Sikh Protest Is Punished As Crime. A girl born in a house of pundits, Bibi Indira Gandhi, getting the votes of the people, became the Prime Minister of India. In 1977, a court sentenced her (to jail). She went to jail to serve time. Her associates, Pande and others, hijacked a plane. One of them was given a ticket (to contest election) for a seat in the U.P. Legislature and the other a ticket for a seat in the Bihar Legislature. But if Guru's sons, Gajinder Singh and others hijacked a plane, they are exiled. And they say our (Hindu-Sikh) relationship is like that between the nails and the flesh under them. If a plane is hijacked for a daughter of the pundits, a Hindu gets a room in an M.L.A. flat. If a Sikh hijacks a plane for the sake of his Beloved (Siri Guru Granth Sahib), while the entire Panth (united Sikh community) had unitedly started a peaceful agitation on the 4th of August (1982), like Gurbakhsh Singh did, he was given an injection to paralyze his leg. He is still in jail. Manjit Singh alias Museebat Singh, who was born in village Mehta and lived here in Amritsar, was shot and killed at the Raja Sansi airport. Tell me, Guru's Sikhs, if our Beloved Guru Granth Sahib does not have even as much respect as a daughter of the pundits, what faith do we have in our Guru? If a plane can be hijacked in protest for a daughter of the pundits, why can one not be hijacked for the sake of the Guru of the Sikhs, for the Sikhs' beards, for the Sikhs' kirpaan, and for the Sikhs' Harmandar Sahib? Of course, if the plane is burnt, if the plane is damaged, if the plane is set on fire, if any passenger on the plane is killed, if any passenger has been robbed, then all of us are sinners. Our leaders too are sinners. If a Sikh boards a plane and hijacks it to demonstrate his grief, it is called treason; if a Hindu strips a Sikh woman naked, it is patriotism! Tell me how long are we going to endure slavery? How unjust it is? How many examples of slavery have I given you? The responsibility for this is going to devolve on you. Sant Jarnail Singh
  2. reality is the youth (those born and brought up) in the UK are uncoordinated & unorganised. the youth are divided into groupings around jathebandhi, caste, politics, etc. an effective protest may well take place for 2009 but what about the other 360-odd days a year? is one day a year sufficient action for us to call ourselves the sikh youth? we should be happy to do sewa in any group or alongside anyone in our Panth. very few are willing to put their own mentality second to the interests of the Panth. in this march, spectators were left bemused hearing the Naaray - the people with megaphones couldnt decide whether Sant Jarnail Singh Ji was Zindabad or Shaheed, they couldnt decide whether they wanted a Khalistan & they couldnt decide whether they were Sikhs first or Babbar Khalsay. frankly speaking, if we're going to do a protest, great but why must we act like a bunch of rednecks? maybe next year we can incorporate a debate over Raagmala into our Naaray and show the "Indian Go'orment" how divided we really are! the only point i'm trying to make here is people are still clustering and clinging on to dogma rather than gathering under Nishaan Sahib & around Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
  3. off-topic but one of banis my grandad does everyday from memory is sampat sukhmani sahib. takes him under an hour to do it with sampat when it takes me a zillion years to read from Gutka without sampat guess this is what happens when you spend too much time arguing Sikhi & not enough practising it :umm:

  6. not sure I get you?? Please clarify? my Nana Ji brought me up telling me when you go to meet Guru Maharaj you should only really ask for Naam. of course i ignored that and did ardaas for fast cars and wealth until later on learning he was right. when you meet a Mahpursh, whatever question you ask be it Atmik or Panthik he'll have answered many times to many individuals before. in asking questions about various controversies you're only displaying your own dubidha which you should be doing something about anyway & why waste the opportunity talking about things which are almost irrelevant in your daily life? when i saw the question do you have questions for Baba Jagjit Singh Ji i thought he is probably more wise than most on Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji & Sri SarbLoh Granth Sahib Ji so maybe ask him about how best to absorb the essence of and put into practice the Bani in daily life would be good? i read Jassa Veerji's question: what is the jugti of bhagti? that's pretty much the essence of what you should be asking. also same way Guru Ji knows what we're thinking, a Mahpursh will know what question a person like me who visibly has no jeevan should ask be asking him and how best to maximise the benefit of having the conversation in the first place.
  7. what question should i be asking? please answer it.
  8. during the 1970s & 1980s, the Central Government used the State Machinery and Media to scare the mainstream community against the Sikh Panth. One of the ways they did this was by portraying Sikhs as calling for a separate Sikh State even though all they were asking for were basic human rights. In newspapers across India the Dohra was misinterpreted on purpose repeatedly despite complaints to say Sikhs were calling for a separate State in order to whip up anti-Sikh opinion before General Elections in order to get a subsequent mandate for further Oppression in Punjab. Saying Khalistan Zindabad is banned and legislated against. But Government has tried to prevent Sikhs from reciting Dohra and have also through various groups within our Panth tried to prevent Sikhs reciting Bani. Dehdharis and various groups are used to speak against Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj and other groups are used to speak against Sri Dasam Granth. In terms of State censorship, movies even remotely discussing events leading up to 1984 are banned. Many Sikhi, Legal or Political Books are banned. Human Rights & Sikh websites get censored. Human Rights groups aren't even allowed to step foot inside India. Political opposition gets imprisoned, if not massacred. You can't solve man-made political problems by wiping out a community. Before i get called a fanatic if anyone wants me to cite examples for any of the above, just ask.

  12. gobinday jio none of us are experts least of all me, we're all in the same boat and we're all here to learn off each other Harmeet Singh - i didn't know the above about Sri Singh Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa so thanks for sharing!
  13. wrong. hope this answers your question. note Sant Ji also describes those people who kickstart these sort of pointless debates and controversies as Naastiks. when we look at Sikhi we shouldn't bring our own westernised mindset with us. women were being treated like dirt in the west when our Gurus taught that they should be given respect.

  16. http://www.sikhsangat.org/news/publish/eur...ate_Crime.shtml St Benedicts College & Merseyside Police Fail To Protect Eleven Year Old Victim of Racist Hate Crime An eleven year old boy was attacked in a racist hate crime in Liverpool in full public view on a packed bus and not a single person bothered to help him. Far from it, onlookers watched on as the child was maliciously assaulted by having his turban ripped from his head and a tirade of racist abuse was hurled at him by a group of nine older caucasian youths. Arjan Rhode was attacked by a gang of teenagers last Monday afternoon on the 82 service in Garston. The bus was packed, around school leaving time at 3.10pm, but nobody intervened. Police arrested only one boy aged 17 on suspicion of a religiously aggravated public order offence. He was being questioned by officers and the matter could have been passed to the force’s Sigma Unit, which deals with hate crime. Police claim they are currently examining CCTV tapes from the bus. SSNews contacted St Benedicts College and Merseyside Police to explain why they failed to protect the child, why they have subsequently not fully investigated and held to account all the perpetrators of this racist hate crime and finally why they have not put into place adequate measures to prevent this kind of hate crime ever happening again. St Benedicts College issued a statement saying: 'Any racist incidents are totally against the ethos of our Catholic College. Such incidents are always condemned, thoroughly investigated and action taken.' 'Indications so far are that any perpetrator does not attend Saint Benedict's College. We have contacted the police and will be working with them to identify anyone involved.' The Mission Statement of the College reads: "We provide a safe, secure and happy environment." Clearly they and Merseyside Police failed to protect this child. The Sikh Community worldwide is outraged that such a serious Race-Hate Crime has not been categorically denounced by a wider proportion of the community in Garston, Liverpool and that this Hate Crime has not been investigated and the perpetrators punished to the fullest extent of the law. Should all children not be safe to travel to and from school without being made a victim of a racist hate crime? Merseyside Police have not yet issued a statement.
  17. http://www.sikhsangat.org/news/publish/eur...ate_Crime.shtml Sikh Boy Has Turban Ripped Off & Stamped On In Racist Hate Crime AN 11-YEAR-OLD Sikh boy had his turban ripped off and stamped upon by a group of racist thugs on a Liverpool bus.Arjan Rhode was attacked by a gang of teenagers on Monday afternoon on the 82 service in Garston. Moments after he got on the bus near Aigburth Road, he was tapped on the shoulder and his turban was suddenly pulled from his head. A group of around nine yobs, aged around 18, passed the turban around while mocking the St Benedict’s RC College pupil. They shouted a tirade of racist abuse at the terrified boy as they stamped on the turban on the floor. The turban is one of the most important religious symbols for a Sikh and touching it alone is seen as a huge insult. The bus was packed, around school leaving time at 3.10pm, but nobody intervened. Arjan left the bus sobbing and recounted the assault to his mother who immediately telephoned the police. Police have arrested a boy aged 17 on suspicion of a religiously aggravated public order offence. He was being questioned by officers and the matter could be passed to the force’s Sigma Unit, which deals with hate crime. Police are set to examine CCTV tapes from the bus. Clearly if this is not a Race Hate Crime, the Sikh Community worldwide will be wondering what is? This Crime has the potential of widening communal tensions if not tackled head on. It is alleged that the mocking group were made up of current and former pupils from St Benedict’s, formerly St John Almond, and the school has been contacted. His mother, who wished to be identified only as Mrs Aurkaur, said her son had been left traumatised and was off school. She said: “The bus was busy but nobody helped him. After it happened, Arjan sat there alone and frightened until he got off. “This was a completely offensive act, the turban is the basis of Sikh religion.” Mrs Aurkaur said her son had suffered repeated racist attacks and insults at his school in Horrocks Avenue, Garston. Sikhs have a distinct identity which they hold in the highest regard. The males are recognised by the long flowing beards and high turbans which they begin keeping at a young age. Sikhs also have five articles of faith which they keep at all times: the Kara (iron bracelet), Kesh (uncut hair), Kirpan (religious ceremonial dagger), Kachhera (briefs) & Kangha (comb). Hence, to show strength of character, their pride in their spirituality & ethics they are instantly recognisable and stand out in a crowd. Headteacher John Finnigan (pictured) said initial inquiries suggested none of the yobs was a pupil, but he would work with police to identify them. He said: “Any racist incidents are totally against the ethos of our Catholic college. “Such incidents are always condemned, thoroughly investigated and action taken. “This matter occurred after school, but we have obviously made inquiries among our students and teachers. “College staff and the police will be patrolling the area at the end of the school day.” The Mission Statement of the College reads: "We provide a safe, secure and happy environment." Clearly they have failed in this regard. The Sikh Community worldwide is outraged that such a serious Race-Hate Crime has not been categorically denounced by a wider proportion of the community in Garston, Liverpool and that this Hate Crime has not been investigated and the perpetrators punished to the fullest extent of the law.
