  1. Wow!! :o Not even at Harvard they teach you that!! Glad I didn't go there!! Than is like.. "10 is greater THAN 1". Then is like "I'm going there then." Got it? Actually, lot of people tell me that and i still forget... you know somethings just make home in your head, so, now i always google "then" and "than" whenever i'm writing a paper... lol
  2. To be honest, until I was in University, Freshman Year, I always used to mix up there and their and even too and too. I also never used to use commas properly until I had my first job and had to write a lot of emails to various people on a daily basis. I just picked it up. :BL: Lol.. seriously, a confession, i might've been to a great school etc, but i still (seriously) don't know the difference between than and then... :D We should use the counselor English (also known as universal or UN English)...lol

One thing i wanted to mention was that "talikhak" mentioned that it was free thinker like guru nanak and waris, bulle shash etc who helped keep "our" lanaguage alive. To claer things up gurumukhi wasn't used or known of unil GURU ANGAD DEV JI. Waris, Bulla etc used Urdu mixed with Sarda script of Sanskrit. Before Guru Angad Dev ji devised Gurmukhi, gurbani was written in Sarda script. And if GURU ANGAD DEV JI wanted they could've changed it to Punjabi but they didn't. Punjabi spoken is mix of written Sarda and spoken Urdu, and was called Gurumukhi back then we call it punjabi because its form Punjab. BUT THE MAIN POINT IS GURU NEVER CHANGED THE LIPI INTO "PUNJABI"... then my question is, who are we manmukhs changing it...
  4. We must only focus on the message not the messenger. So, please sangat jio, lets stop here, stop the 'lol' arguements, and let veer ji handle this topic to inform us where bai ji will be holding diwans. Fateh!

  6. That is a good way to get people know, but what needs here to be done is that Sikhs in UK ask for a meeting with the Home Office, i am pretty sure if enough sikhs do gather asking for a meeting they will be willing to sit down and have a talk. I'm from US and don't really know much of UK, so if you are from UK, please ask your gurughars to organize a meeting. I don't know about UK but here in US, all gurughars meet once a month on each coast, which i think is a great way to talk things out etc... just a mere suggestion for uK guru ghars.
  7. mann_kaum_layee_qurban mentioned the free tibet movement, well i feel no shame whatsoever saying that i oppose it and if you ask i so do of khalistan, respectively. There are reasons, which must be considered, discussed, reviewed, and reviewed again upon. Its like building a house or having a family, you need not just the land but the frame, ceilings, bricks, walls, windows, doors, and what so not. Tibetians demand their theocratic state just as we do of our own, states can't be run based upon religion only (and please don't reply that i'm denouncing panths ability to run khalistan). We have seen over the period of times, as empires rose and fell over nothing but, religion. At one side we seek peace, unity, and waheguru's name on the other hand we seek khalistan. Well, as per my understanding waheguru's sikh only seeks one thing and that is 'his' naam. And yes, dalai lama has said this himself, that he seeks not an independent tibet but a tibet that resides with peace and unity with the humanity chanting lord's name... Well, at the end everyone has their opinions and i have mine. Fateh! "There are men i respect, men like Mao." - HH Dalai Lama the 14th; People's Press, 1960
  8. WE STAND SHOULDER 2 SHOULDER WITH OUR CANADIAN BROTHERS , BRING IT ON INDIA Khalistan is not a religion it is a struggle for independence which includes all members of our community,I salute these guys for being moneh and wearing the shirts, normally moneh don;t give a crap nice to see them supporting the movememnt for freedom, they have feelings as much as we do ,someone said on the forum in every mona there is a sleeping lion lke Jinda/Sukha Oooo, You should definitely visit NJ/NY and when you do, as per your views, you probably think its the whole khalistan Zindabad Force here.... Because if wearing t-shirts and khandey makes you Sikh and makes you feel they support themovement, this is THE place you should send some missionaries to preach and have a gathering... Seriously.... And if you or anyone else believes that wearing t-shirts and khandey and what so not supports the movement or the panth at all, well, i'm ready to spend everything that waheguru gave me and every penny that by 'his' kirpa i make from job, in buying t-shirts and giving to people so they can wear them...
  9. I have one more question, i plan on buying two Kirpans (about 2.5ft) Do they let those come back to US as luggage? Thank you, i will hopefully visit all of them... and post pics here..lol lol.. and i thought my dad was the only one who was interested in buying land.. he wants me to visit some places and "report" back to him on aurrounding anddecide whether we should buy or no...
  10. Its like milk but w/ gas..lol
  11. Actually thast the best natural insulation you can use, it repels household and other insects. It keeps the inside hot or cold depending on the outside temperature, and given time, hardens like cement. And when it gets old you can just through it away as its biodegradable... good for people, money, and environment.. :D Ops.. almost forgot yes, cow dung is also anti-bacterial...
  12. u should try it sometime... :D

  16. Posting reply won't help... according to CIA database here in US (and subsequently around the globe):- 1. Babar Khalsa 2. ISYF 3. Khalistan Zindabad Force Anyone who associates themself or shows support for these organizations (and is caught) can be charged with treason under US Laws and can be held w/o warrant/trial for life under US Patriatic Act. Eventhough, nobody (authorities) don't really care about these groups in US, but if they feel like you can be executed in US by wearing just a t-shirt etc... According to me, its not the reporter or newspaper at fault here, ITS US, the SIKHS. We have been on watchlist since 1986 but NOT ONE of us has ever tried to confront this or talk about it with authorities. The reporter is just going by laws and we are (here on this forum) going by opinions and may you like it or no, LAW UPHOLDS. Here's Appendix F of State Dept report on issuance of Executive Order by President after 9/11 attacks:- http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/20123.pdf And heres the Exclusion order meaning your are not welcomed in US and you can't fly on US registered air crafts and if you are found in US you can be charged at Terrorist and if you are US citizen you can charged with treason and executed:- http://www.state.gov/s/ct/rls/fs/2004/32678.htm The last time US govt updated the terrorist list was 2004, heres a copy BK etc are still on list:- http://usinfo.state.gov/is/Archive/2004/Apr/01-705871.html ITS ABOUT TIME THAT SINGHS IN UK SIT DOWN AND HAVE A TALK WITH HOME OFFICE... BUT THEN AGAIN FOR SOME SIKHI IS A BUSINESS AND WHO WANTS THEIR BUSINESS HURT WHEN $$$$$'s ARE AT LINE...
  17. Khalsa is for khalsai singhs not for show off veer jio. Incase you forgot the story when guru ji had to test fire a gun, a muslim said/praised andshowed off his man. Guru ji said well he needs something to test his gun, how about you call one of your man? They all shunned away while guru key singh lined up and began fighting over that they should be the one guru tests the gun. History isn't just for JOY, its to learn something, its something that should be kept in heart all the time just as waheguru's naam should be. "Babania Kahania Put Sput Karen" And yes, i do know very well that Khalistan movement wasn't just for amritdhari singhs etc but for the good of people, and i also know many who were not sikhs gave their life, BUT THEY DIDN'T SHOW OFF or HELD A GUN IN HAND JUST TO SHOW OFF THAT THEY ARE FOR KHALISTAN... We have become ignorant over the years, the world "khalsa" has become associated with the cool factor and have lost respect, believe it or not, argue or not, khalsa isn't khalsa what it was. There are still singhs out there who are great sikhs and i have looooooooooooooooooooooooot of respect for them, but they don't wear khanda's or t-shirts or what so not. Considering that a lot of sikhs on the forum are of young age, again it becomes hard to explain. Fateh!!
  18. Exactly my veer jio, it says, ""Our tenth guru said, when all means of addressing the wrongs have failed it is righteous to raise a sword." and my question to them would be, "Do you even know tenth guru?" I know the working of this site so, now please don't post asking me whether i do or no...
  19. I first didn't want to reply to this post as many more i know won't. But the simple thing is you can't be a missionary while (as my brother says) "murgey di latt ve ni chadde". Before we go in politics, expressing our religion we MUST learn it ourself. I have done some workshops here on east coast with other singhs and one thing was common, A BIG KHANDA in the neck of a badmash munda and what so not. If you ask me they just wore it because of the "cool factor" (aa term i use for such things). This incident has nothing to do with religion/politics or anything else. I quite don't feel like writing much as i feel it is self explanatory to those who want to understand it. In my views, guru ka sikh is and should always be a simple man, because those who show are not left w/ anything; while those who have everything never show it. I quite forgot the gurbani tuk in gurmukhi but'll post if i remember (other are welcome to post if you know it) WJKK, WJKF!!

  23. Kent man sentenced in hate-crime beating of Sikh cabdriver By Christine Clarridge Seattle Times staff reporter A victim's forgiveness and a defendant's remorse led a King County Superior Court judge to be lenient Friday when she sentenced a construction worker who attacked a Sikh taxi driver last year. Judge Monica Benton sentenced Luis Vázquez, 21, of Kent, to nine months in jail and 240 hours of community service for the hate crime. He will be eligible for work-release during his time in jail, the judge said. Prosecutors had asked for a two-year sentence. Benton said that while racism is pernicious and hate crimes undermine society, forgiveness and remorse play a role in justice as well. Vázquez pleaded guilty last month to reckless endangerment, second-degree assault and malicious harassment, the state's name for a hate crime, for the Nov. 24 attack on Sukhvir Singh, an Indian-born member of the Sikh religious community. In court Friday, Vázquez said he did not remember the drunken assault but was ashamed and shocked when he woke up in jail and learned what he had done. "I'm really, really sorry for what I put you through," Vázquez told Singh during the hearing that was packed with his family and members of the Sikh community. "I'm sorry for making you have to look back over your shoulder when you walk." Vázquez had been too drunk to gain admission to the Apple Cup at Husky Stadium when he was put into a cab driven by Singh. While Singh was driving down Interstate 5 at 60 mph, Vázquez punched him, bit him on the scalp and called him an "Iraqi terrorist." Singh, who pulled to the side of the freeway, told police that he had been afraid for his life and that of others on the road. Singh fled the taxi and Vázquez followed, court papers said, and the attack stopped only when a Metro bus pulled up and Vázquez tried to board. Singh said through a Punjabi interpreter on Friday that he and other members of the Sikh community wanted to offer forgiveness to Vázquez once they learned he had no previous criminal offenses and had a history of steady work. Singh said he did not want to see the young man's life ruined. "If someone has made a mistake, they should learn a lesson from it," Singh said. "They should be punished accordingly, and it should be known to society that it is not good to have hate toward any human being." Several members of the Sikh community spoke at the hearing. They talked about how the Sikh are peaceful and have no ties to terrorists but have endured prejudice and slurs since Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. "I hope this message goes to the public," said Gurdev Singh Mann. "You should not be judging people from what they look like." Vázquez said after the hearing that he was grateful for Singh's forgiveness and that he has learned his lesson. He is attending an alcohol-treatment program and said he does not intend to drink anymore. Christine Clarridge: 206-464-8983 or cclarridge@seattletimes.com Copyright © 2008 The Seattle Times Company
