  6. http://headlines.sify.com/news/fullstory.p...n~alarming~rate Census: Sikh girls vanishing at an alarming rate Sunday, 12 September , 2004, 12:54 New Delhi: The Sikh community has the lowest sex ratio of 893 females per 1,000 males well below the national average of 933. This is revealed in the census figures of 2001 based on religion released recently. As regards the disparity of the absolute and relative number of males and female population in the society, expressed in terms of sex ratio or number of females per thousand males, the Hindus recorded 931 and were slightly below the national average whereas sex ratio among Muslim was 936. The sex ratio among the Christian population grew handsomely from 994 in 1991 to 1,009 in 2001, it said adding, for the Buddhist and the Jains, the sex rato remained almost the same as 953 and 950 respectively. The report also emphasised on 'signs of definite decline' in the Parsi population in the country. The Parsi population deserves an exceptional but definite mention and place due to their very small number not only in India but also in the world, it added. As per 2001 Census, the Parsi population in the country was 69,601 (33,949 males and 35,652 females) as against their population of 76,382 (37,736 males and 38,646 females) in the 1991 Census, he said. The 2001 Census also contained data on economic activity for different religious groups. The proportion of workers to total population (work participation rate) varied from 48.4 per cent among those following other religion and persuasions to a very low of 31.3 per cent among Muslims. In terms of type of economic activity, 33.1 per cent of the workers among Hindus returned themselves as cultivators and among Muslims they were only 20.7 per cent, the Census 2001 said. Of Buddhist workers, 37.6 per cent were recorded as agricultural labourers, not owning land. Among Hindus, the percentage of agricultural labourers was 27.6 per cent and among Muslims it was 22 per cent. Importantly, the percentage of workers in household industries among the Muslims was highest at 8.1 per cent, much above the national average of 4.2 per cent for all communities and percentage of female workers in the segment was also quite high among the community at 19.3 per cent, reflecting their traditional association with arts and crafts and such household industries. The literacy rate for all the religious groups, as revealed again for the first time in 2001 Census, was very encouraging, shattering many myths in circulation earlier when such a data set was not available for the country as a whole, the Census Commission said.

  9. http://allaboutsikhs.com/mansukh/125.htm Q125. What is the Sikh attitude to mercy-killing? Today there is a lot of pressure on politicians to legalize mercy-killing. In certain countries, mercy killing of patients suffering from incurable diseases or terminal illness has been regulated by law. It is left either to the discretion of the physician or the patient. Recently a new Society named "EXIT" has been started in Great Britain, which supports the right of the individual to die with dignity and its literature contains some instructions for those who desire a painless suicide. The tendency towards the death-wish is fostered by present-day tensions and the conflicts of our competitive society. Mental illness is on the increase, and some people, in a fit of depression, may welcome death as a relief from the torture of living. What is the Sikh view on this important subject of Euthanasia or mercy-killing? Is it right to end a life on account of the pain and agony faced by the patient? Is the physician under a duty to end life, when the terminally ill patient asks for relief in death? The Gurus regarded suffering as a result of man's Karma. Man must have the moral courage to bear his suffering without lament. He should pray for the grace of God to enable him to put up with pain in a spirit of resignation and surrender. There is no place for mercy-killing in Sikhism. The Gurus tackled the problem of sickness and suffering by providing medical relief and alleviatio n of pain. Guru Arjan built a leprosarium at Tarn-Taran. Guru Har Rai established a hospital at Kiratpur. It is reported that he supplied a rare herb to emperor Jehangir for the serious illness of his son. After all suffering is a part of the human condition and has a place in God's scheme. Suffering also prompts man to turn his thoughts to God; "Suffering is a medicine; happiness is a disease." The Gurus rejected suicide, as it is an interference in God's plan. Many Sikhs faced torture and ultimate death at the hands of tyrant rulers and fanatic leaders, though they could have found relief through suicide. Birth and death are the prerogatives of God and under His command, and it is no business of man to oppose the Divine Will. Recently, the Pope condemned mercy-killing and suicide as opposed to God's will and declared it a crime of the utmost gravity. It is the duty of the State and society to alleviate the suffering of citizens by medicine, surgery or psychological treatment. Even the expert physician has no right as such to end life. If he cannot cure or heal, he should not destroy life.

  11. physical beauty attracted Guru Ji? you really think so Singh Ji? Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Gurbani are the same. and you do know who Gurbani calls "beautiful ones". no doubt Mata Ji was beautiful but Guru Ji does not look at physical beauty and call someone "Sundar". and what was wrong with the first name? please enlighten me. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Gurujee can name anyone whatever He wants. He called His horse Jaan Bhai. Why not question that as well now? . All I said was that a husband can call his wife anything, by any name affectionately. Yes I don't know the reason why Gurujee called Mataji by that name, only He knows best. Again, I read that He called Mataji Sundari and I don't know why. It seemed to me that it was out of affection. Now please don't tell me that its wrong to love your own wife? 'http://forums.waheguroo.com/html/emoticons/d_oh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='d_oh.gif'> joga singh Posted on Sep 10 2004, 11:33 PM Who is talking about these 5 vikaars? . You totally misunderstood my point yaar. I have already said that Gurujee had only one wife, so the question of lust is out of question!
  12. yes that film where it showed 1 singh and his crew blowing up a bus full of innocent ppl :| :| That one dude was Om Puri who was playing a Hindu kharkoo. Not a Singh! His name in the movie was Sanatan (pertaining to Hinduism which is also called Sanatan dharam).

  15. Bhenji it's a bit common sense- Do you thinkyour Guru would be proud that his Son/daughter is THAT WEAK tha they can't handle it? + Human life is where we get the chance of getting our karms clean and do naam japna - we don't want to miss a such chance do we? and wait another 100 yrs till we get a human lfie again  GUru JI has thaught us to say in CHARDIKALA And a Chardikala person doesn't even THINK of Such an action - let alone doing it..... Our Aim in lfie is to become like Great Gurmuk hs liek Baba Deep Singh ji (which again isn't happening realisticly in this life - but our Job is to STRIVE FOR IT) WOUld i.e Baba Deep Singh ji do something like that :T: bhull chukk maaaf Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! I agree with Mr Singh. Jkaur bhenji think of all those glorious shaheeds we have had! They suffered the worst inhuman tortures ever! Couldn't they have ended it easy by killing themselves? But they lived in bhana and smiled at all the terrifying horrors they were put through. Lets all look upto them and try our best to stand upto their spirits, and even if we can do 1% of that, it will be amazing how strong we get and face every pain of life.
  16. A husband has the right to call his wife affectionately by any name, don't you think ?
  17. Guru Hargobind Jee had 3 wives because back in the days if a father would promise his daughter to someone, and if she didn't end up getting married to the guy, she would have to remain unmarried forever. So to avoid that from happening to the 2 bibiaan Gurujee married, He married them, and then announced that He was not gonna marry any more. Again, this is what I have read. Please correct if wrong. ps : and yes...none of the Gurus married more than once for cheap pleasures...they were the light of God...unlike scum bags like myself...so lets stop doubting Gurujee please !!!
  18. Ok this is what I have understood always. Gurujee had only 1 wife : Mata Jeeto Jee whom He used to call Sundari, and so people thought He had 2 wives Mata Jeeto Jee and Mata Sundari. Mata Sahib Kaur is the spiritual mother of the Khalsa and not His physical wife. He had 4 sons from only Mata Jeeto Jee. Correct me if I am wrong.
  19. http://www.kentaxrecords.com/iaca/php/item...85802&type=news Christians interrupt Sikh Funeral in the US, seek converts March 4, 2004, 2:36 am San Jose, Feb. 29, 2004 The American GI Forum Hall was packed with hundreds of mourners as members of the huge Sikh community of the Bay Area gathered for the funeral service of Hari Singh and Satnam Singh, two of the three people, who were killed by a gunman in a high-profile attack the previous Sunday. Speaker after speaker came up to address the grieved for their lost loved ones and prayed for their families. However, members of Indian Christians United (ICU) took this advantage of the Sikh community in mourning as an opportunity to convert them. Brother Younis Masih and two other Punjabi converts walked on top the stage and announced they would be playing a gospel song. Younis then walked to his harmonium, one sat down with a tabla, and the third held a Bible. In the following minutes, the Christian converts inappropriately began singing to Christian songs, preaching the virtues of Christianity over Sikhism and read two passages from the Bible. Younis spoke in fluent Punjabi in an attempt to convert as many Sikhs as possible.

  23. http://www.ndtv.com/topstories/showtopstor...+riots&id=15229 Sajjan involved in anti-Sikh riots: Nanavati Rajdeep Sardesai Tuesday, September 7, 2004 (New Delhi): Justice GT Nanavati, who is heading the probe into the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, has told NDTV that serious evidence points to the involvement of Congress MP Sajjan Kumar. 20 years after the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, not a single major Congress politician has been indicted. Case against Sajjan Justice Nanavati says that evidence has been provided to him against Sajjan Kumar and former Congress union minister HKL Bhagat. While Bhagat is seriously ill, Kumar who was acquitted by a Delhi court, was elected as an MP this time with a large margin. The main case against Sajjan Kumar was filed by Anwar Kaur, who accused him of leading a mob that killed her husband a day after former prime minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated. "There is evidence against Sajjan Kumar and HKL Bhagat. They were leading the mob and instigating the crowd," said Justice GT Nanavati, head of the inquiry commission. Cong leaders implicated However, according to the judge, evidence against the other Congress leaders who deposed before the commission is limited. They include Union Commerce Minister Kamalnath, NRI Minister Jagdish Tytler and senior Congressman Vasant Sathe. "They would stand in a different category Evidence against these Con gress leaders are not strong," said Nanavati. Questions raised When NDTV tried to contact Sajjan Kumar, he refused to comment, but the Congress is questioning the credibility of the Nanavati Commission. "It's surprising that just a few months before the conclusion of the inquiry, names are being mentioned. I think it's unnecessary for members of the commission to speak to the media," said Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi. Final arguments before the inquiry commission are now over, and Justice Nanavati says he will submit his report by November. And once the report is released, it could become a major embarrassment for the Congress in general, and Sajjan Kumar in particular.
