  1. jeez cant u just listen to the man! he said dont reply!!!
  2. individuality is a gift to us all. Maharaaj has made us all unique, but equal at the same time however, i think too many people abuse that right for their own intentions - some of which include jealousy and hate. Ask a psychologist and they will tell u that for some people, they feel excited and thrilled when something major happens. Take 9/11... people were glued to their sets but inside were really excited to see what will happen and waiting and waiting for the towers to collapse. And the same applies to this forum. Lets spark a real controversial debate and watch the events unfold live infront of our pc screens! Its true and its happened so many times on the forum.
  3. Happy Birthday "heart"! All the best for today! :HP:

  5. amen to that! i like what Soho Road do - they have someone at the front like 24/7 even during the night. Someone rings the bell and they let em in. Its a nice atmosphere.

  7. I think thats a good point and one that makes me  because Gurdwaras should be 24/7/365 - open every day and night in the year. But they are not. Understandably, there are security issues. But Gurdwaras spend so much on other facilities which are not essential as security.. In my eyes the solution is: NO MORE COMMITTEES!!!! Nah i disagree to an extent though. You cant just have any tom <admin-profanity filter activated> n harry coming in otherwise we would have anti-Sikh bodies jumping at the chance to get their claws into the Gurdwara. You need a structure, you need a selection process. The success of our Gurdwaras (and they are successful in terms of the funds they are able to raise) has up until this day relied upon some sort of structure. But such structures do need to be revised.
  8. 1 problem? thats like a needle in a haystack. but id have to say the problem to change primarily would be to have a major reshuffle of the commitees... out with the old, in with the new, to an extent. i put together in my mind a list of things i would change and they mostly go back to the commitee being the root cause...
  9. Question is simple. Would you sing along to "Vande MaDharam", following SGPC's recent approval of it? NEWS ARTICLE BELOW : In a major U-turn, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Makkar today backtracked on his statement that the Sikh community should not sing Vande Mataram. Vande Mataram is a highly Nationalist Anthem and Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians may take offence to singing it as they worship One God as opposed to Devtae. In a statement issued here today, the SGPC chief said the SGPC had no objection to the singing of Vande Mataram by the Sikh community. "The Sikhs are an important part of India... Sikhs and Sikh Gurus have made sacrifices for the country... there should be no problem in singing Vande Mataram," SGPC president Avtar Makkar said. The complete volte-face of the SGPC leader comes as no surprise as the SGPC is dominated by the Shiromani Akali Dal led by former chief minister Prakash Badal. The Akali party is a political alliance partner of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Punjab and at the centre. The BJP is pressing for the singing of Vande Mataram in all educational institutions. Simranjit Singh Mann, President of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), however, opposed the "forcible" singing of Vande Mataram. He said that his party leaders would go to schools across Punjab Sep 7 to ensure that Sikh students were not forced to sing the song. Dal Khalsa, urged Sikh community members not to send their children to school Sep 7 and to oppose the singing of Vande Mataram. Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) declared "Vande Mataram" against Sikh tenets and issued instructions to the educational institutions run by it not to sing it tomorrow. “Vande Mataram would not be sung in the DSGMC-run educational institutions tomorrow on its first centenary as it is against the tenets, principles and philosophy of Sikhism,” said Mr Harvinder Singh Sarna, president of the Sikh body. He said the Sikhs in their prayer wish for “sarbat da bhala” (welfare of the whole community). They believe in one Almighty God and do not have belief in any devi-devta. Mr Sarna said the national anthem was sung in all educational institutions run by it with great respect. “But, we cannot allow the singing of Vande Mataram in our schools,” he said, adding that it had been rejected by the veteran Akali leaders, Baba Kharak Singh and Master Tara Singh, long ago during the freedom struggle.

  16. I think Wolverhampton has missed out on a lot and we need to start somewhere now. Birmingham has a Rehansbhai once every few months on average. Wolverhampton is lucky if it gets one in a year and we have soooo much Sikh sangat here too. It was really good that the Singhs from Nanaksar.org joined in and helped without getting involved in any internal or external politics and people from as far as London came and stayed. It was a great turnout and the photos are on http://www.ektaone.com for all to view. Bhool chukk maaf and sarbatt dha bhalla :umm:
  17. No video unfortunately, but maybe next time. Videos will be online very soon of the whole rehansbhai :umm:
  18. Sorry sangat jio, there are maximum users logged on. We will ensure this is improved for future programmes - recordings will be up as soon as possible, by the grace of Guru Jee...

  20. Find out if something is stressing him at all? There is on many occasions, reasons as to why people resort to drugs and alcohol. Maybe hes hiding something which is eating away at him inside. Try and find the root of the problem but beware as you may have to go back a few years to establish the cause. Just stay strong, and dont give up on him until you are totally sure you have done your best. But dont let that get in way of your obligation to your family - if he becomes really abusive, threatening and violent, take action agianst him and do something about it, before one of you get hurt. Hiding bottles etc will just enrage him more. Pouring his drink down the gutter would worsen things for you and if he catches on to your scheming, he will start to hide his drink bottles, which is not what you want because then you will be unable to monitor his intake. Dont try and STOP his drinking in the first instance. What you need to do is control it. Reach a compromise with him that "Dad, if you HAVE to drink, please just drink this much a day and no more." Make an agreement with him and help him to help himself. Hope that may have helped your dilemma and wish your family all the best.
