  1. Its not just alcohol consumption that is increasing but cross vorder drugs as well. Before punjab was just a transit point for drugs, but now its consumption is increasing by day. My dad is customs officer and he nabs atleast one smuggler every week..... most of times the person transporting contraband belongs to a well to do family in punjab and feel secure doing such stuff owing to their connections and to get easy money. The second group of transporters are NRI canadians, who coerce ppl to do their sins in return for taking them to canada. The money is big, one can get anywhere around 3-4 lakh rupees to transfer drugs from punjab border to other parts depending on quantity.... last month alone the largest cache of drugs in whole india ever was captured in punjab. 40kg of heroein worth 40 crore.... wonder where we are heading without a proper parchar......

    Maagi

With my little knowledge all I can say that Maagi is name of the desi month after winters. Lohri is celebrated on last day of desi winter month and then maagi starts. Also 40 mukte sacrificed their lives for guru on this day, so a lot of sangat go to muktsar on maagi to ishnan and pay their respects. Maybe someone else can elaborate more on this....
  3. I've had seen this movie last year. Some scenes are pretty graphic in nature. The director did portray a valid concern for indian society.
  4. Reading Bani is like cleansing your soul....Everyone should make an effort to read Bani even if they cannont understand it initially... it dissipates the darkness in our mind and make it easier to grasp the meaning and true essence of bani. It is inly when you understand the meaning of each word you began to enjoy the everlasting bliss. But not everyone can be there right away.... read bani and listen to katha to understand it and learn proper santhya..... I personally learnt a lot from listening to katha of japji sahib from bhai pinderpal singhji.... Also make sure when you do your nitnem, play the paath being recited shudh by someone...... Last but not least, do ardas!
  5. With shifting demographies in punjab, the voter banks is fast moving from SIKH politics to Punjabi politics. No wonder the likes of badal are hiring more biharis as SAD workers. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2007/20070118/punjab1.htm#8 Migrant muscle in Amritsar Varinder Walia Tribune News Service Migrants from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are considered an important vote bank in the border district of Amritsar. Some villages in Amritsar have entire panchayats comprising Bihari migrants. They have made Punjab their 'first home' . The sarpanches of Karnala, Dayalpur , Patalpuri, Kharaswala and Galowali are of Bihari origin. They speak chaste Punjabi and their children can write in the Gurmukhi script. These villages fall in the Majitha Assembly constituency . The votes of these villages, where all sarpanches are of Bihari origin, are crucial. Politicians are making a beeline to these villages for votes. They rule the roost in cluster of villages in the Majha heartland, which are frequently visited by senior leaders of various political parties, including Mr Parkash Singh Badal, president, Shiromani Akali Dal, and even the current Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh. The labour from Bihar was brought by the British to lay the railway track and build the Kathunangal canal. Most of the labourers decided to settle in Punjab. “We have settled permanently in Punjab. We are here for the past five generations," says Mr Ramesh Lal. The decade-old militancy had no effect on this new generation of ‘proud Punjabis.’ Today, they are proud owners of big houses as well as modern facilities, including tractors and motorised fodder cutters. Their forefathers had come to Punjab penniless, but with hard work, they became prosperous. Now their villages have scooters, sleek motor bikes and tractor-trailers," says a Bihari sarpanch. The migrants have made themselves indispensable as they are willing to work on jobs commonly considered " demeaning". Most of the migrants are voters and are in a position to tilt the balance in almost all Assembly constituencies. They are mainly concentrated in Verka (28,000 votes), Amritsar South (14,000 votes), Amritsar North (about 10,000 votes) and Chheharta (approximately 12,000 votes). Colonies in Amritsar where the migrants dominate are Nehru Nagar, Sandhu Colony, Parkash Vihar, Mustafabad, Indira Colony, Kundewala Khuh and Jawahar Nagar. Thses migrants mostly work in processing units and embroidery shops. The state president of the Uttar Pradesh Kalyan Parishad, Mr R.C. Yadav, claims that many migrants have obsorbed the Punjabi culture. Some of them are granthis in the SGPC-controlled gurdwaras. Many have married into Punjabi families. Even when gun-wielding militants ruled the area, not a single case of migration was reported from the Tapprian cluster comprising six villages. Now, more than 15,000 migrant labourers, who have converted this interior of Majha into a mini Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, are likely to play a key role during the elections.
  6. Since Giraffe is not a native punjabi animal, so you won't find a punjabi name for it. Jaraaf would be closest you will get. But if somebody does finds a specific name, it would be intresting to know. I wonder what OCTOPUS,Penguin etc will be called......
  7. Happy Birthday veerji..... I always cherished reading your posts... its been a while since heard something from you... May waheguruji bless you with more kamai.....
  8. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/NEWS/In...show/812595.cms MOGA: Three persons allegedly cut off the hair of a Sikh teenager in the Baghapurana town of this district leading to tension in the area. Sukhajit Singh, 15, employed at a cloth merchant shop alleged that the trio had waylaid him while he was on his way to have tea at his employer's house and forcibly cut off his hair. He said he raised an alarm but as the incident took place on a lonely street nobody came to his rescue. Police launched a search for the culprits after they were informed about the incident by Singh's employers. Senior Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Roy reached the spot and pacified the locals and a case was registered against one Gejja of Lohara village of Moga district for hurting religious sentiments. The Baghapurana police intensified the patrolling in the town and in the rural areas and situation is under control the SSP said.
  9. Another move against politics or Simranjit singh Mann? http://www.asianews.it/index.php?l=en&...eo=2&size=A INDIA Amritsar: Sikh "Vatican" bans use of temples for political gains by Prakash Dubey Sikh clergy leaders have imposed a ban on all manner of non-religious manifestations near places of worship. Islam and Hinduism were invited to do the same to open a new chapter of religious harmony. Amritsar (AsiaNews) The "Vatican" of the Sikh religion yesterday banned rallies, protests and clashes near its temples to "preserve their sanctity" and to "pave the way towards peace". Leaders of the Sikh clergy also invited Muslims and Hindus to do likewise, to "open a new chapter of religious harmony and solidarity among men". The decision was taken by the highest-ranking preachers of Sikhism, who met in Akal Takht one of their most venerated places of worship to stop "those political figures who use their religion to inflame the population, by protesting or holding meetings near Sikh gurudwaras [the "way of the gurus", that is, temples]." The head of Akal Takht, Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vidanti, and other influential religious leaders were among participants who said the ban was prompted by the "desire not to mar the spiritual aura of our places of worship with political activities: from now on, only religious rallies will be allowed near our temples." After the meeting, the Sikh priests issued a joint statement to say that the "decision applies not only to India but to Sikh temples around the world. It would be wonderful if leaders of religions like Islam and Hinduism also took decisions like ours. It would usher a new chapter of religious harmony and human solidarity." Granthi Nayab Singh, a Sikh priest from Punjab, told AsiaNews: "This decision is a revolutionary one and would end the growing trend among certain politicians to misuse religion as a pretext to stage social protests, which hide vested interests that have nothing to do with spirituality." The reference is especially to movements in 1984 that were fomented by a Sikh leader who was calling for Punjab's independence from Delhi. Protests culminated in the murder of the premier Indira Gandhi by two of her Sikh bodyguards. The Hindu majority took their revenge by killing around 3,000 civilians and damaging one of the central places of worship of Sikhism, the Golden Temple of Amritsar.
  10. Utter fools representing sikhs. None of them would have did ardaas for 84 victims, but now to play each other down they are putting up a grand show. And SGPC is showing its true color being badal's footlicker.
  11. Pure Manmat.... Its pathetic to see how bunch of fools are degrading sikh symbols. The core of this problem is our very own inefficient SGPC. when singers wear big khanda chains and sing songs portraying lifestyle totally opposite to sikhi values, they should have been stopped. Moreover majority of sikhs have became complacent about this. People have totally forgotten the value and significance of these symbols and what they stand for. I was at a univ. function and there was a bhangra competition... one of the teams had khanda on their dress and let out jaikara "waheguruji ka khalsa, whaeguruji ki fate" after completing their gig. I was shocked.... what are they trying to proove? I agree with Bass singh that those people need to be contacted and asked politely to remove the particular product.
  12. A singh told me once that when you start reading banis regularly, your mind will tend to go to bad thoughts and even these nightmares. It happens as the mind is being cleaned by bani. When we clean a piece of cloth with soap, the foam appears and dissolves dirt in it which have been sticking to it. Similarly all these bad thoughts and fears are stuck on our mind and bani starts to erode them. Just stick to your amritvela and they will gradually go away.
  13. Here are some of the pictures. I'll post more when i get home. The pictures show both aspects of yuba city parade, Nagar Kirtan and Mela. You could see lot of gursikhs and a large number of tupac wannabes....
  14. I personally believe this is not beadbi, if granthi singhs are reading bani fully alert and with maryada. Its just that the family which has initiated sri akhand path sahib will not get any benefit for the same as their involvement is zero. Sikhs were supposed to be doing simran or reading bani for most part of their life, but it is decreasing exponentially. Akhand paath sahib was started so atleast the family can get involved for sometime and be close to guruji. But nowdays ppl are forgetting its importance. They forget that without doing any sewa or listening to bani they will not get any laha from the path. Maybe guruji will put some sense in our thick minds.
  15. Sikhs Need QUALITY and not QUANTITY. I agree with khalsa4ever veer that it be good for them to cut their hair than have beadbi of guruji's saroop. Also we cant blame everything on badal and SGPC. We are losing our family values. Parents are not teaching their kids the true path of sikhi. And to add to that sikh youth in india lack role models. The shaheeds have been branded as terrorists and evil ppl like kp gill hailed as SUPERCOP. There is widespread erosion of social and religious values in punjab. The media has added fuel to fire by portraying sikh identity as a mere joke. There are equal number of gursikhs in punjab and west alike. Its only that sikhs here are more vocal than back in punjab. As for brainwashed punjabi youths who are into drugs and clubbing, you'll find plenty everywhere. Its better if they leave sikhi than to tarnish its image with their manmat.
  16. This clip is from a TV serial called "TAMAS" that used to air years ago. I remember watching it as a kid. Its atleast 10-15yrs old. It was based around punjab in 1947 during partition and was a nice serial. Does anyone know more clips from it. I remember it used to show how during partition rogue elements threw pigs in mosques and cows in temples to incite racial tempers..... it was nice to watch. If anyone can get their hands on more clips, please share.
  17. I think revival of sikh values starts from each individual.... lets fix outselves first and then kick out committee members from our respective gurughars and replace them with true gursikhs. If we manage to even replace 50% corrupt committes with real gursikhs, it will make a big impact on the way sikhi values are preserved. Corruption has seeped deep into most sikh organisations and we have to start from the bottom. Everyone knows western money has huge impact in punjab and the way this money is spent will make difference. Right now, corroupt committe members bribe SGPC and other officials with sangat's and gurughar's money. We need to dry up the pool of money for these corrupt ppl.Need to check the way charawa is ustilised. I personally feel all gurughars need to hire a CA (chartered accountant) to manage the money and all committee members have to worry is about cleaning langar halls and gurughar. I bet these corrupt ppl will run off the very next day. We need more youth representation in gurughars. You dont have to bo anywhere, start where you live.... If we could not make our voice heard locally, how we think we can change the whole SGPC! We need to have a youth party running for gurughar managements and build their jeewan based on bani so as not to get smitten by the corruption disease. Just my 2 cents.
  18. Sikhs need to be SAINT SOLDIERS and not mere soldiers.... without the strength of bani noone will be able to follow the rightous path.
  19. I was reading the news at different sites and didnt find this version anywhere..... IS it that all the newspapers changed the version of the story? Here is what i found on the hindu, zeenews (link provided before) http://www.zeenews.com/znnew/articles.asp?...385&sid=NAT http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus/004200610251921.htm Amritsar, Oct. 25 (PTI): Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) chief Simranjit Singh Mann was injured today after being roughed up by supporters of former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal at a Sikh congregation here. The incident occurred at Kathunangal village, 25 kilometers from here, at a SGPC-organised function to observe the birth anniversary of Baba Buddha. Trouble broke out when Mann tried force his way in along with his supporters and join issues with Badal who was addressing the people. The Task force of the SGPC fired in the air to prevent Mann and his supporters from entering the venure of the function. Most of Mann's supporters fled the scene leaving him behind after the firing. When Mann insisted on joining Badal on stage SGPC supporters beat him and a few of his supporters. The police personnel, who watched the events till then, intervened when they realised that Mann's life was in danger. Talking to mediapersons Mann accused the police of partiality, saying no action was taken against the SGPC Task Force or Badal supporters. "It was pre-planned to harm my life but I was saved, otherwise supporters of Badal left no chance to finish my life. I also blame police which disarmed me and my supporters before entering in the venue of SGPC," alleged Mann. Mann said: "The task force of SGPC and supporters of Badal were carrying arms and ammunitions and police administration was extending full moral support due to which I was brutally beaten up by the supporters of Badal. A visibly perturbed Mann said he would not take up the matter with the Jathedar Akal Takht - the highest Sikh Temporal Seat - Gyani Joginder Singh Vedanti, since he was a mere rubber stamp of Badal and Makkar. "It is up to Sikh Sangat how they take the revenge from the people who were responsible for beating me up in full public view. I am sure, people from the Sikh community would come forward to answer the atrocity inflicted on me by Badal and SGPC people," Mann said. Blaming Mann for disrupting the function Makkar said, "Mann had no business to enter forcibly along with his goons in the venue to terrorize the Sikh Sangat. Mann should have come to the venue like humble Sikh but he came with the intention to capture the religious stage of SGPC." Mann had earlier warned the SGPC the he would not allow cricketer-turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu and former Haryana Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala to speak at the function. However, neither Siddhu nor Chautala was present here today. A similar situation was witnessed on July 2 when Mann was not allowed to speak at a function observing the 400th establishment day of the Akal Takht in the Golden Temple premises here. What kind of supporters are with sardar mann? He needs to find ppl who can stand beside him in tough times and not just do the talking. Also can someone provide actual details rather than newspaper reports of the event. Whatever maybe the case.... Punjab's biggest goon BADAL needs to be taught a good lesson. He has made every sikh organisation spineless. Maybe this incident will arouse the fire in sikhs to raise up to the situation.
  20. I wish we had more people like Dr Sekhon leading sikhs and setting up a good example for others....
  21. Kudos to you brother for drafting that "FAKE" article, which will someday be "REAL". I think we should get this article out straight to Manmohan singh. http://pmindia.nic.in/write.htm This is where he could be reached HOPEFULLY. But still this article describes the bare minimum sikhs deserve from the country they died for, and the message in this article should be put into minds of every INDIAN.
  22. aapay beej aapay hee khaahu. You shall harvest what you plant. I heard a Katha once. Somewhere along our numerous previous lives we must have planted something for Guru Maharaj to give us the bakshish of kesh, the bakshish of amrit, the bakshish of naam in this life. Whatever we have planted previously determines the strength of our bond with Guru Ji. We have to accept each individual's bond with Guru Ji differs. When a Kathakaar is on stage telling us that Guru Ji's Hukam is to take Amrit, in a sangat of 100 maybe only 1 person is inspired to take Amrit. The remaining 99 people do not receive the same message that 1 person got from that same katha, even though they heard the same thing. The pyaray who are meant to take Amrit will do so, the ones who are not meant to take Amrit won't. The rest of us need to carry on with whatever sewa we've been given to do. It is all happening in HIS Hukum... We should make an effort to preach others, its upto them to follow or not. Moreover Sikhi is about QUALITY and not QUANTITY. I used to feel bad for all these people leaving sikhi, but now i think its God's way of filtering true gursikhs. Only those who get guru's nadar are capable of keeping rehat and maintaining sikhi saroop. never hate anyone going away from sikhi as they never understood its importance. Pray to guruji to forgive everyone and put some sense into our thick minds.
