  1. i don't usually do this on forums but '+1' lol alright it doesn't say about gf/bf thing, but everyone else has mentioned how that is not in accordance with sikhi.
  2. so that means you don't have to give a fk about your wife / kids because .... I shouldn't worry about them err no, did you read the whole post. wasn't exactly long was it. that was about girlfriend/boyfriend thing - which is just to do with kaam anyway. hopefully your wife and kids should be following the same path. and actually many many many times in gurbani it says about detaching yourself from all in the world ਏ ਮਨ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਤੂ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥ O beloved mind, contemplate the True Lord forever. ਏਹੁ ॥ This family which you see shall not go along with you. ਸਾਥਿ ॥ They shall not go along with you, so why do you focus your attention on them? ਐਸਾ ॥ Don't do anything that you will regret in the end. ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ॥ Listen to the Teachings of the True Guru - these shall go along with you. ਕਹੈ ॥੧੧॥ Says Nanak, O beloved mind, contemplate the True Lord forever. Cursed is loving attachment to one's mother and father; cursed is loving attachment to one's siblings and relatives. ਧ੍ਰਿਗ ॥ Cursed is attachment to the joys of family life with one's spouse and children. ਧ੍ਰਿਗ ॥ Cursed is attachment to household affairs. <a class="dict" href="http://www.srigranth.org/servlet/gurbani.dictionary?Param=%E0%A8%B8%E0%A8%BE%E0%A8%A7%E0%A8%B8%E0%A9%B0%E0%A8%97" onmouseover="ddrivetip('iSāḏẖsang /i', 250)" ;="" onmouseout="hideddrivetip()">ਸਾਧਸੰਗ ਸ੍ਨੇਹ ਸਤ੍ਯ੍ਯਿੰ ਸੁਖਯੰ ਬਸੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕਹ ॥੨॥ Only loving attachment to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, is True. Nanak dwells there in peace. ||2|| - that doesn't mean you throw them aside. grihasti jeevan is guru ji's hukam - just don't get caught up in it so much that you forget all about guru ji's hukam. and sorry IF anything bad happened to you or someone you know, but don't blame the teachings of sikhi for it (remember i said IF) i guess i started posting just as you posted shastr, search copy and paste took some mins

  6. and it's pretty good for flyin patang :D and listening to basant raag  yeah as apna said, not too hot in march (but global warmin and all that you never know lol )
  7. WOW available for download. that is brilliant, especially as it's not easy to bring pothi sahibs over from India with full respect trust me, and i don't know of any being printed here. and it's free to download. that's amazing, you're right to get carried away, that is a huge seva for people who are learning or want to learn to read gurbani and anyone else. it really is brilliant, i'm gonna get carried away in a minute lol, good stuff bhaji. vjkk vjkf
  8. first of all IK OUNKAAR (and if they ask about god further then the mool muntur) and you could add, - manus ki jaat sabhai ekai pehichanibo (recognise the human race as one) and/or - hukmai andur(i) sabh ko bahur(i) hukum(u) na koi, Nanak hukumai je bujhai, ta haomai kuhai na koi.
  9. Also if you type in ਜਪ into srigranth.org or sikhi to the max. see how many searches come up and just read through a few. i guess, from what i can think of, there may be other ways, and what i write might be wrong but for any script, in this case and especially gurbani you could arad(h)ana - repeating out loud, try to embed something into your memory. rad(h), is to memorise, or to finish. so arad(h) i would suggest would be to never stop, and keep on memorising, as we try to do with gurbani. dhiaona - dhian la ke, with your mind. set your mind to focus on gurbani, the meaning, and say loud or quietly in your mind, but focus your mind on it japna - with your tongue, your voice. dhiaona can be done with the mind alone, but japna can not (i don't think ) gaona - then there's gaona, singing aloud. just a few thoughts, from what i've gathered feel free to add anything or whatever. vjkk vjkf
  10. vjkk vjkf if initially you read/say gurbani out loud, you are more likely to remember it. repetitively saying gurbani out loud allows you to listen to what you are saying. then when you read it or say it in your mind, you can 'hear' yourself saying it.<br>many sants and mahapurash advise for people to speak gurbani out loud, and let yourself listen to it. as you speak it out loud, it becomes more 'pakka' resolute in your mind, then jundo ander vas jandi bani, when after speaking it loudly it starts to resonate in your mind then you can do it either way. try it, if you say gurbani in a toneful voice loudly, almost singing but not exactly. say a line a few times, or vaheguru loudly. then be silent and listen to that in your mind, it's a lot clearer than just doing it in your head straight away. ਗਾਵੀਐ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਮਨਿ ਰਖੀਐ ਭਾਉ ॥ Sing, and listen, and let your mind be filled with love. ਦੁਖੁ ॥ Your pain shall be sent far away, and peace shall come to your home. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ॥ The Guru's Word is the Sound-current of the Naad; the Guru's Word is the Wisdom of the Vedas; the Guru's Word is all-pervading. AND OF COURSE ਸੁਣਿਐ ਸਿਧ ਪੀਰ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਾਥ ॥ Listening-the Siddhas, the spiritual teachers, the heroic warriors, the yogic masters. ਸੁਣਿਐ ॥ Listening-the earth, its support and the Akaashic ethers. ਸੁਣਿਐ ॥ Listening-the oceans, the lands of the world and the nether regions of the underworld. ਸੁਣਿਐ ॥ Listening-Death cannot even touch you. ਨਾਨਕ ॥ O Nanak, the devotees are forever in bliss. ਸੁਣਿਐ ॥੮॥ Listening-pain and sin are erased. ||8|| SO BY RECITING OUT LOUD, SO CAN ALLOW YOURSELF TO LISTEN. eventually after listening it will sink in: ਸੁਣਿਆ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਭਾਉ ॥ Listening and believing with love and humility in your mind, <a class="dict" href="http://www.srigranth.org/servlet/gurbani.dictionary?Param=%E0%A8%85%E0%A9%B0%E0%A8%A4%E0%A8%B0%E0%A8%97%E0%A8%A4%E0%A8%BF" onmouseover="ddrivetip('iAnṯargaṯ /i', 250)" ;="" onmouseout="hideddrivetip()">ਅੰਤਰਗਤਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਮਲਿ ਨਾਉ ॥ cleanse yourself with the Name, at the sacred shrine deep within.

  12. bbc is ridiculous, there's a program on bbc2 at 10pm today. it's about MUSLIMS LEARNING TO DRIVE - it's a freaking series of 6 programs, after a show about OBAMA and just before NEWSNIGHT. i can't see how there's no agenda behind something like that, an absolutely pointless show, just to make muslims look better to the public - when there are so many more important issues out there that a documentary could be made of
  13. oh, i had my hopes up for some good news well part of my previous post ''does he go more the side of 'maya'. a lot of socialising (not the religious kind), spending money etc etc. Also is he a bit selfish, again both things i've said from experience of someone like that, because he hasn't thought about what it would do to the family or anything, or looked at what's good, he's looked at what is easy.'' Karan, have you tried to understand more about sikhi, and why you shouldn't cut your kesh, or have you just thought i don't care what anyone says i'm just gonna do it my way. maybe you want to do all sorts of things, and you want to cut your kesh etc, and you've seen how 'easy' it would make things and you're just looking at that perpective. have you tried, please try, just a little bit, to look at the spiritual side of things, to see what gurbani says, to go to a summer camp or something or a class and pose the questions that you have. it can be seen in the world that people who work really hard are the most successful, people who make sacrifices like great sportsmen or soldiers in the war, they are saluted by everyone. those are usually the best people in western society (did you see the armed forces awards). in life i guess sikhi is that path of hard work which can lead you to success at the end - maybe i think, maybe you want to see how sikhi can be cool, how it can be fun and chilled out - i'd say go to a sikhi camp in the summer first and see how it is. maybe you don't care about anyone talking like they know it all and thinking they're of a higher intelligence. maybe you just wanna see how you can be a sikh and be chilled out. maybe the way your parents brought you up in sikhi you felt it was too strict, maybe you need a viewpoint of some sikhs who are chilled out. Q. do you believe in god? if so what are your views.
  14. i think the petition should be put in general whats happening and news' forums sometimes people don't check this forum - i rarely do, actually seems quite new to me. since it's not against forum rules, and if ladli-fauj is ok with it, i think it should go into the 'more popular' forums
