  1. This is great news. The last thing we need for French law abiding minorities is a racist leadership, on top of Hollande calling for the secular teaching of religion & Sarkozy’s political party (ump), in support of even restrictive measures on religious symbols in French public spaces. I was expecting them to make massive gains compared to previous years and more so after the attacks.. BBC News France's far-right National Front (FN) has failed to win a single region in the second round of elections, exit polls indicate. Early results suggest the party was beaten into third place, despite leading in six of 13 regions in the first round of votes a week ago. The polls predict Nicolas Sarkozy's centre-right Republicans will win most seats ahead of the ruling Socialists. Acknowledging defeat, Ms Le Pen pledged to keep fighting. "Nothing can stop us. Long live the French Republic! Long live the nation! Long live France!" she told her supporters. The far right's charm offensive Marine Le Pen: Taking French National Front to new highs and lows Marine Le Pen stood as a candidate in the northern region of Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Picardie. Her niece Marion Marechal-Le Pen was standing in Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, in the south. After both secured more than 40% of the vote in the first round, the trailing Socialist candidates in those regions pulled out so their voters could support the Republican candidate against the FN for the second round. One poll suggested Ms Le Pen secured 42.5% in the second round in her region, against the centre-right's 57.5%. Analysis: BBC's Hugh Schofield in Paris There can be no hiding that the results of the elections are a big personal blow to Marine Le Pen. She has lost the chance to govern a region and show the world that her party is serious. She has been reminded that however strongly the FN performs, the gates of power remain tightly closed. But in a way that suits her fine. Because what it all means is that nothing in France has changed. The two main parties continue sharing out the goodies (in this case deliberately conniving to keep hers as well). Meanwhile unemployment rises; terror stalks; the grim insurrectionary mood continues to spread. Marine's prospects for power may be limited, but her appeal is as strong as ever for France's growing numbers of disgruntled and disaffected. That French "ouf" of relief? It's also the noise you make when you get a fist in the abdomen. Xavier Bertrand, who is leading in Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Picardie, said the French had given "a lesson of rallying together, courage. Here we stopped the progression of the National Front." But Socialist Prime Minister Manuel Valls was less upbeat. He warned the "danger posed by the far right has not gone away, far from it." And Mr Sarkozy said now was the time "for in-depth debates about what worries the French", noting security concerns, unemployment and frustration with Europe. French regions have wide powers over local transport, education and economic development. According to one poll, the Republicans have secured about 40% of the nationwide vote, followed by the Socialists with 30% and the FN with 28%. Official results are expected early on Monday. The first round of voting on 6 December gave the FN the best election results in its history. It was the first electoral test since last month's Paris attacks, in which 130 people were killed - an attack claimed by the so-called Islamic State group. In the lead-up to the first round, opinion polls suggested that the popularity of the anti-immigration, anti-EU FN had increased since the deadly attacks. The FN had been hoping a strong performance would boost Marine Le Pen's chances for the 2017 presidential election.
  2. We should as these organisations how many toys they collected for the children of our Shaheeds.
  3. is that the Vlogger who hangs out with Jagmeet Singh (NDP) and what allegations?
  4. they are not to be seen as evil, but evil if used in the incorrect way. use when required. the aim is to control and subdue them, not eradicate.
  5. Would not go so far as saying idiotic, all depends on how they are influenced and type of Sangat they keep. In Punjab one who does kheti bari and even in general, their concept of jhoot, roti beti dha saanj is completely different to the sanitised version in the West kept by bibekis. Additionally when they go to the Doctor, they don't ask if the tablets they are consuming contains gelatin as a binding agent or alcohol in the cough medicine. They follow what they think is common sense and bibeki Singh's would argue otherwise. What you see as pakhand, the latter see as Rehat and many of them are solid where jeevan is concerned.
  6. I thought it was a given in the first example.
  7. thanks, so are these great apes extinct? if not my question stands..
  8. Yup! They fry anything in sight, including Pizzas!
  9. not evil but his moral compass has obviously malfunctioned
  10. On the fence on this. If we came from Bandhars, over hundreds of thousands of years, why have we not seen them progressively evolve into humans?
  11. No need to tell everyone what your daily routine is. But now we know. we have to ask ourselves, if someone Amritdhari consumes gelatin/maas wilfully but is pakka Nitnemi, Amrit Vela, Seva etc and on the other hand we have a Sikh who has also taken Amrit, strictly observes outer rehat and dietary bibek but spiritually is on the opposite scale, who is the better person? Neither is not the answer. I think I have an idea who will go further spiritually and maybe eventually decide to give up whatever is necessary to progress further.
  12. http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-news-india/fasting-sikh-activist-urat-singh-khalsa-seen-feasting-in-viral-video/ While confirming that the man in the video is his father, Khalsa’ son, Ravi Inderjit Singh Gogi, alleged he consumed the food after being “drugged” by doctors. He also said the video was taken recently when Khalsa was admitted to PGIMER, Chandigarh. “Whenever doctors take Bapuji from home to hospital, they administer eight injections on the way. He loses consciousness and his memory and forgets that he is fighting for a cause. We have already informed supporters multiple times that he is force-fed in hospital under the influence of medicines. The video has been made and released by anti-social elements who want to disrupt our fight to get Sikh prisoners released from jails,” Gogi said. “We do not know what kind of drugs are given to him but he entirely forgets his mission and starts eating whatever is offered to him. He is always force fed under tight police security and whenever we object, police threaten to lodge false FIRs against us,” he added.
  13. To be truly safe from checking packets every time you go shopping (For info I do not adhere to either but you can find more info at these links) dietary Bibek or Sarbloh Bibek maryada.
  14. On the subject of Bhai Kahn Singh: Bhai Kahn Singh jee Nabha was one of the greatest scholars of Sikh Panth. Mahan Kosh the best Sikh encyclopedia even to this day keeps his memory alive. At a time when Hindus were about to swallow Sikh Panth, he along with other gursikhs of that time vigorously fought back. Bhai Sahib wrote another great book – Hum Hindu Nahee (We are not Hindus), in order to counter the claim by some Sanatanist Hindus that Sikhs were part of the Hindu Dharam. At that time (and still today) there were Sikhs who proudly subscribed to all faiths along with the Sikh faith. A person who is a Sikh cannot be a Hindu or a Muslim at the same time. A Sikh can only be a Sikh and not a Hindu or a Muslim or a Christian while being a Sikh. Many Sikhs don’t openly subscribe to other faiths but knowingly or unknowingly a lot of Sikhs are infected with other faiths i.e. subscribe to their philosophies. They don’t see any harm in bowing their head when they see a Church or a temple. I have personally witnessed this. A friend of mine, long time ago, used to bow his head whenever he saw any religious place. I told him that we Sikhs cannot bow our head and matha-tek to anyone but Guru Khalsa Panth and Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee but he in return accused me of being an extremist and even a Taliban. I was sitting there wondering how ignorant modern Sikhs had become. Anyway, Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha terms such Sikhs who subscribe to all faiths as Hardeghi Chamchay i.e. such chamchay that are used to stir vegetable of all sorts. He has written a beautiful poem that I must share with you all: Devi ko bhagat kabhee meera ko upaasha hai, Daas Sultan ko au kabhee Laal-Beghi hai|| (Depending on the circle and situation, sometimes he becomes a worshipper of Devi and at other times of Meera. Sometimes they serve Sultan (a sect of Islam) and at other times they become Laal-Beghi (another sect of Islam)) Mann meh hai aur ar mukh maahe dooji baat, Param Pakhandi, nakh Sikh Lau farebee hai|| (He has one thing in mind and something else on his tongue. He is a Param Pakhandi i.e. a great hyprocrite and a deceiver) Swarath ko maan hai, mukh parmaarath tain, Nimboo ko nichod agai karat rakebi hai || (From inside they have worldly reasons and aspirations but from tongue they speak of holyness and religion. They crush others as a lemon is crushed) Singh roop dhaari anai matt ko parchaari bhaari, Panth ko nikaaray jo chamach Hardeghi hai || (Such pakhandi adopts the appearance of a Singh but always sticks up or stands up and preaches other faiths. Such person who undermines Panth is a Hardeghi Chamach) May Guru Sahib save us from becoming Chamach Hardeghi. Let us stop becoming apologetics for other faiths. Let us become Mighty Khalsay both physically and spiritually. We hate no one but this does not mean that sell out to others. We should not undermine our Guru Sahibaan by saying that they were influenced by others and so on. Daas, Kulbir Singh
  15. I say, if all those in favour of this fun and festive spirit also celebrate Gurpurabs with the same fervour and zeal, then yes go be merry and jolly at your hearts content, without the Turkey and Alcohol of course.
  16. Jagsaw is 100% correct in his analysis. But there is no harm in other Sikhs helping their fellow brothers/sisters in times of need. If the karams of the rich Afghanis are not good and they have turned their backs on their own they will be judged accordingly.
  17. Partly agree. Bed time sakhian and the accounts found on-line are not great if kids reads them by themselves, but can be transformed if an adult reads them, changing the grammar, injecting with explanations and simplifying the English as required. Ideally this should be the job of the Author, put simply, we have not produced enough good writers that are writing exciting enough books for kids that capture the imagination and interest quickly. Books need to cater for different ages. Rare books such as the ones published by Punjab and Sind Bank used fantastic colour illustrations (below) to bring accounts to life. Lack of investment has resulted in plain print books, black and white illustrations and the challenges you refer to. In certain cases the same issues arise if we look at Sikh books aimed for adults, that were written only 30-40+ years ago; the use of Victorian English requires a good dictionary at hand!
