  1. Calm down ppl. I agree there are many discrepancies in this movie about true sikhi nature, look at this way, it is not aimed towards the sikh religion at all. If there is any sardar in any movie then dont think it is aimed at the sikh religion. I remember the movie "Border", Sunny deol has played a really good role in it. And if you are talking of trimmed beard, then look at so many of the bhangra artists these days, atleast I see them having more trimmed beard then sunny deol in this movie. Instead we love the songs by those bhangra folks. by the way Im not a supporter of sunny deol. Just my thoughts on this. Sikhs are not supposed to be portraying saintly roles all the time in movies. If there is a discrepancy in a movie that tells specifically about sikhism, then there is the right to say that it is leading in the wrong direction. Princess : Bolay So Nihal , Sat Sri Akal is although not mentioned in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, but it has great significance. Bolay So Nihal, Whoever speaks(Bolay so), will be in bliss(Nihal) Sat Sri Akal (True Timeless One) So then one person says Bolay So Nihal, then everyone else says Sat Sri Akal Whoever says sat sri akal will be in bliss.
  2. Yeh K_SINGH is right.. The correct term to use would be "prakash", rather then birth So when we say its Gurpurab of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, then we say today was the prakash of Guru Ji.. Same with Khalsa.. because if we tend to use birth, then there also has to be death... Although its hard to describe the term prakash in english.. basically it means light, The Guru as light shone forth on this day. (metaphor)
  3. DHANAASAREE, FIFTH MEHL: The One who sent you, has now recalled you; return to your home now in peace and pleasure. In bliss and ecstasy, sing His Glorious Praises; by this celestial tune, you shall acquire your everlasting kingdom. || 1 || Come back to your home, O my friend. The Lord Himself has eliminated your enemies, and your misfortunes are past. || Pause || God, the Creator Lord, has glorified you, and your running and rushing around has ended. In your home, there is rejoicing; the musical instruments continually play, and your Husband Lord has exalted you. || 2 || Remain firm and steady, and do not ever waver; take the Guru’s Word as your Support. You shall be applauded and congratulated all over the world, and your face shall be radiant in the Court of the Lord. || 3 || All beings belong to Him; He Himself transforms them, and He Himself becomes their help and support. The Creator Lord has worked a wondrous miracle; O Nanak, His glorious greatness is true. || 4 || 4 || 28 || Thursday 1st Vaisaakh (Samvat 537 Nanakshahi) (Page: 678)
  4. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Happy Vaisakhi to all
  5. GUJRI, FIRST MEHL: Those who beg of God the Great Giver — their numbers cannot be counted. You, Almighty True Lord, fulfill the desires within their hearts. || 1 || O Dear Lord, chanting, deep meditation, self-discipline and truth are my foundations. Bless me with Your Name, Lord, that I may find peace. Your devotional worship is a treasure over-flowing. || 1 || Pause || Some remain absorbed in Samaadhi, their minds fixed lovingly on the One Lord; they reflect only on the Word of the Shabad. In that state, there is no water, land, earth or sky; only the Creator Lord Himself exists. || 2 || There is no intoxication of Maya there, and no shadow, nor the infinite light of the sun or the moon. The eyes within the mind which see everything — with one glance, they see the three worlds. || 3 || He created air, water and fire, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva — the whole creation. All are beggars; You alone are the Great Giver, God. You give Your gifts according to Your own considerations. || 4 || Thirty-three million gods beg of God the Master; even as He gives, His treasures are never exhausted. Nothing can be contained in a vessel turned upside-down; Ambrosial Nectar pours into the upright one. || 5 || The Siddhas in Samaadhi beg for wealth and miracles, and proclaim His victory. As is the thirst within their minds, so is the water which You give to them. || 6 || The most fortunate ones serve their Guru; there is no difference between the Divine Guru and the Lord. The Messenger of Death cannot see those who come to realize within their minds the contemplative meditation of the Word of the Shabad. || 7 || I shall never ask anything else of the Lord; please, bless me with the Love of Your Immaculate Name. Nanak, the song-bird, begs for the Ambrosial Water; O Lord, shower Your Mercy upon him, and bless him with Your Praise. || 8 || 2 || Wednesday 31 Chayt (Samvat 537 Nanakshahi) (Page: 503-504)
  6. note to admin : it would be good to allow people to post their views, let the sangat decide. Do you agree.
  7. Some of the cases, of male and female childs, those types of cases happen in uneducated families and very rare in the world we live in. Society has changed
  8. hmm misunderstanding.. I agree they are not following rehat, but atleast they teach about sikhi , language, grammer, history <_<
  9. I dont agree that I should go around punish sikhs who dye their hair, the rules are laid, and its a personal business. No one should have the right to punish someone who has dyed hair
  10. If we think like this then when how will sikhi spread? We should not label all hindus as corrupt, there are christians who teach about yoga, it doesnt have to be only hindus teach about yoga. Lets not be so difficult , and how do u say with so much certainty that they dye, they still might have black hair.
  11. Right that we should take books on sikh history with a grain of salt. It should be quite evident. But this story or the book by Maculiffe, I posted has been reviewd by the sikh public before it even got publized in 1901 (50 years before the archer book got publized) . This is different because not many authers let their work to be critized before they publish it. Regarding the book by archer, I dont intend to read it. Anyway on your comment that Gurus didnt curse, I would like to remind you of the time when Guru Har Rai cursed his own 'son' Ram Rai to leave the place and never show his face again, when he altered a Gurbani line of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, in order to please the emperor and did 100+ miracles which was also against the command of the Guru. And if you read Sukhmani Sahib , Cursed is the Saint's Slanderer, There are many curses mentioned to the slanderer of the saint. Guru Gobind Singh had said noone will construct a monumnet or my statue and worship it or in remembrance of it. It is like idol worship and Guru Ji condemned it. Its totally against the will of the Guru to make temple for the Guru, thats why Ranjit Singh's kingdom got destroyed.
  12. That story is not from the book by the Archer, This is from the Macauliffe book and this book was first published in 1909!. So you can figure out which one the source came from. There are many books out there that are not accurate, but this book by macauliffe was subject to loads of sikh critics and all the changes were made before it even got published. The account of the story that is given has nothing against the sikhs in it. Anyway I would recommend you to read the maculiliffe one which has five volumes. Unlike the Archer book i figure which never got open for criticism by the genral sikh public.
  13. finally u made it!.. greetings, congratulations, celebrations on your 1000th post <_<
  14. One day, as Guru Tegh Bahadur was in the top storey of his prison, the emperor aurangzeb thought he saw him looking towards the south in the direction of the Imperial zenana. He was sent for the next day, and charged with his grave breach of Oriental etiquette and propriety. The Guru replied, 'Emperor Aurangzeb, I was on the top storey of my prison, but I was not looking at thy private apartments or at thy queens. I was looking in the direction of the Europeans who are coming from beyond the seas to tear down thy parades and destroy thy empire.' =========== Guru Tegh Bahadur prophesized the coming of the europeans, the british who later took over India.
  15. Another way to die while living would be to "not be yourself, not be oneself". Be the other "universal". To look at every action as viewing outside the box of the body, and not associating with the ego.
  16. RAAMKALEE, FIFTH MEHL: The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is a jewel, a ruby. It brings Truth, contentment and spiritual wisdom. The Lord entrusts the treasures of peace, intuition and kindness to His devotees. || 1 || This is the treasure of my Lord. Consuming and expending it, it is never used up. The Lord has no end or limitation. || 1 || Pause || The Kirtan of the Lords Praise is a priceless diamond. It is the ocean of bliss and virtue. In the Word of the Gurus Bani is the wealth of the unstruck sound current. The Saints hold the key to it in their hands. || 2 || They sit there, in the cave of deep Samaadhi; the unique, perfect Lord God dwells there. God holds conversations with His devotees. There is no pleasure or pain, no birth or death there. || 3 || One whom the Lord Himself blesses with His Mercy, obtains the Lords wealth in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. Nanak prays to the merciful Primal Lord; the Lord is my merchandise, and the Lord is my capital. || 4 || 24 || 35 || Tuesday 30 Chayt (Samvat 537 Nanakshahi) (Page: 893)
  17. agreed  <_<
  18. The guru has given the seva. If he is distributing prashad then he's doing seva, and making him a better person. by drinking alchol he gives away the merit of the seva of distributing prashad. We should accept prashad of the guru from no matter whover, it is of the Guru, and should not judge the vehicle of the transmission.
  19. prashad is the gift of the Guru. Should never refuse.
  20. lol funny.. maybe we can say all our thoughts are predestined.. but that would be going too far then, more or less there is a tiny tid-bit of freedom in us. We are free to make choices and also we are bounded by the moral law, the form of the law is such that it doesnt interfere with freedom of our choices...
  21. Yes, Its the will of Ik Onkar, If I say it's not, then it will be a contradiction to the all powerful Guru. For what and why this has happened people can say 1. Wanted to create a revolution to start khalistan 2. Amritsar was becoming a place where sikh militants were taking shelter, and people started giving more importance to the sants, then to the Guru, and that also at the place of naam simran. 3. Attachment to the physical places. 4. other reasons There can be so many views. But I believe His will is a mystery, and we shouldnt try to comprehend it but just agree with it.
  22. Waheguru Jee ka khalsa, Waheguru Jee ki fateh Im just creating this thread to post any random thoughts you might have! anything really.. here are some of mine's --------------- By living life against the will/desires of the ego, in accordance with the hukam of his command, by dying in this way, a person will not have to die again. --------------- desire leads to desires, so why follow desire? -------------- Complete Faith in the Guru's Hukam is the only step towards our liberation will post more later
  23. SOOHEE, FIFTH MEHL: The Simritees, the Vedas, the Puraanas and the other holy scriptures proclaim that without the Naam, everything is false and worthless. || 1 || The infinite treasure of the Naam abides within the minds of the devotees. Birth and death, attachment and suffering, are erased in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. || 1 || Pause || Those who indulge in attachment, conflict and egotism shall surely weep and cry. Those who are separated from the Naam shall never find any peace. || 2 || Crying out, “Mine! Mine!”, he is bound in bondage. Entangled in Maya, he is reincarnated in heaven and hell. || 3 || Searching, searching, searching, I have come to understand the essence of reality. Without the Naam, there is no peace at all, and the mortal will surely fail. || 4 || Many come and go; they die, and die again, and are reincarnated. Without understanding, they are totally useless, and they wander in reincarnation. || 5 || They alone join the Saadh Sangat, unto whom the Lord becomes Merciful. They chant and meditate on the Ambrosial Name of the Lord. || 6 || Uncounted millions, so many they are endless, search for Him. But only that one, who understands his own self, sees God near at hand. || 7 || Never forget me, O Great Giver — please bless me with Your Naam.To sing Your Glorious Praises day and night — O Nanak, this is my heart-felt desire. || 8 || 2 || 5 || 16 || Monday 29 Chayt (Samvat 537 Nanakshahi) (Page: 761)
