  5. The Vishnu Purana (4.24) says: "When the practices taught by the Vedas and the institutes of law shall nearly have ceased, and the close of the Kali age shall be nigh, a portion of that divine being who exists of his own spiritual nature in the character of Brahma, and who is the beginning and the end, and who comprehends all things, shall descend upon the earth. He will be born as Kalki in the family of an eminent brahmin of Sambhala village, endowed with the eight superhuman faculties. By his irresistible might he will destroy all the barbarians and thieves, and all whose minds are devoted to iniquity. He will then reestablish righteousness upon earth; and the minds of those who live at the end of the Kali age shall be awakened, and shall be as pellucid as crystal. The men who are thus changed by virtue of that peculiar time shall be as the seeds of human beings, and shall give birth to a race who shall follow the laws of the Krita age, the Age of Purity. As it is said, "When the sun and moon, and the luner asterism Tishya, and the planet Jupiter, are in one mansion, the Krita age shall return."
  6. In Hinduism, Kalki ( also rendered by some as Kalkin and Kalaki) is the tenth and final Maha Avatara (great incarnation) of Vishnu who will come to end the present age of darkness and destruction known as Kali Yuga. The name Kalki is often a metaphor for eternity or time. The origins of the name probably lie in the Sanskrit word "kalka" which refers to dirt, filth, or foulness and hence denotes the "destroyer of foulness," "destroyer of confusion," "destroyer of darkness," or "annihilator of ignorance." Other similar and divergent interpretations based on varying etymological derivations from Sanskrit - including one simply meaning "White Horse" - have been made. Hindu traditions permit numerous interpretations of what avatars are and to what purpose they act. Avatara means "descent" and indicates a descent of the divine awareness into manifestations of the mundane form. The Garuda Purana lists ten avtars, with Kalki being the tenth. The Bhagvada Purana initially lists twenty-two avatars, but mentions an additional three for a total of tenty-five avtars. He is presented as the twenty-second avatar in this list. All Hindu traditions declare all people to be manifestations of the divine essence or Atman and avatars to be individuals who are far more acutely and extensively aware of this fact and its implications than most. They have entered the mortal realms voluntarily to teach important truths to humanity or dharama, and usually have extraordinary abilities to aid in these roles. Modern interpretations of the Kalki prophecy Many modern writers have attempted to link figures in comparatively recent history to Kalki. Given the traditional account of the Kali Yuga lasting 432,000 years and having started in 3102 BCE which makes these claims problematic. Some scholars such as Sri Yukteswar Giri and David Frawley have claimed that there are intermediate cycles within the 432,000 year cycle. Shree Veera Brahmendra Maha Swami, writing about 1,000 years ago in "Divya Maha Kala Jnana" (literally: "Divine Knowledge of the Time") claims that Kalki would arrive when the Moon, Sun, Venus and Jupiter have entered the same sign; such occurrences are not rare and the next is expected in the year 2012 or afterwards. Pandit Ved Prakash Upadhyay has argued in his book Kalki Autar aur Muhammad Sahib that Muhammed completed all the prophecies of the Kalki avatar. The bookMuhammad in the Hindu Scriptures claims Muhammad to be Kalki based on research from all Vedas, Puranas and Upanishds. Ismaili Khojas, a Shia Muslim group from Gujarat and Sindh and followers of Aga Khan believe in the 10 incarnations of Vishnu. According to their tradition Imam Ali, the son-in-law of prophet Muhamad was Kalki. Members of the Bahai Faith have interpreted the prophecies of Kalki's arrival as being references to the arrival of Bahaullah which has played a major role in the growth of the Bahai faith in India. Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community believe their founder Mirza ahmed to be the Kalki Avatar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalki
  7. lol! http://www.bbc.co.uk...anakshahi.shtml Sikh calendar The Sikh calendar is called the Nanakshahi Calendar and takes its name from Guru Nanak, who founded Sikhism. For most of its history Sikhism has used the traditional Vikrami (or Bikrami) calendar, shared by Sikhs and Hindus in North India, to set the date of its festivals. The Nanakshahi Calendar was adopted in 2003 and made life much easier for Sikhs as their holy days no longer move about the calendar from year to year. Gurpurabs (celebrations devoted to particular Gurus) now always happen on the same date, and occur once (and once only) in every year. The calendar didn't fix the date of all Sikh festivals. Those Sikh festivals that are celebrated at the same time as similar Hindu religious events, such as Diwali and Hola Mohalla, still have their dates set by the Vikrami calendar. The Nanakshahi Calendar was developed by a Canadian Sikh, Pal Singh Purewal, a retired computer engineer. He started work on the calendar in the 1960s. Purewal believed that having a unique calendar was vital for the integrity of the Sikh religion. All communities and faiths have their own calendar as a mark of their distinct cultural identity. Just as the Islamic world has the Hijri calendar and Hindus have Vikrami calendar, the Sikhs will have a Nanakshahi calendar along with the common era (CE) calendar which is in use throughout the world. Pal Singh Purewal The Nanakshahi calendar in brief a solar calendar called Nanakshahi after Guru Nanak (founder of Sikhism) year one is the year of Guru Nanak's birth (1469 CE) uses most of the mechanics of the Western calendar year length is same as Western calendar (365 days 5 hours 48 minutes 45 seconds) contains 5 months of 31 days followed by 7 months of 30 days leap year every 4 years in which the last month (Phagun) has an extra day Political history of the calendar The implementation of the calendar was approved unanimously by leading Sikh organisations in March 2003. The first attempt to introduce the Nanakshahi calendar was in 1999 but it was almost immediately banned. The two institutions that rule Sikhism were on opposite sides. The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee or SGPC (the top Sikh religious institution) implemented the Nanakshahi calendar in December 1999, despite an order from the Akal Takht (the other top religious and legal institution in Sikhism) that the calendar should not be implemented until a general consensus emerged on the issue within the Sikh community. The SGPC decided that an important festival should be celebrated on January 5, the date given by the new calendar, while the Akal Takht insisted that the it should be on January 14, the date in the traditional calendar. The showdown resulted in temporary victory for the Akal Takht. The SGPC backed down, senior SGPC officials suffered various religious punishments, and a top SGPC official was excommunicated. Ordinary Sikhs were left in utter confusion and for the next few years some followed the lunar calendar (Vikrami or Bikrami) while others used the solar calendar (Nanakshahi). Views on the calendar The arguments about the calendar were concerned not only with its accuracy but also the identity and status of Sikhism and the Sikh community within Hindu-majority India. Traditional Sikhs opposed the change because it broke with the past, but Sikh radicals supported it because it gave Sikhs their own calendar and emphasised their separate identity from Hindus. Some people pointed out that most religions base their calendars on the movements of the moon, and not that of the sun, that this was somehow more spiritual, and so a Sikh religious calendar should also follow the moon. Others argued that the new calendar wasn't really Sikh at all, but was just a "solarised" version of the Hindu calendar or a version of the Western calendar with added Sikh elements. Some politicians pointed out that the old Vikrami calendar, and the sharing of some Hindu and Sikh festivals, was one of the few elements of Punjab culture that had survived the growing breakdown between the Sikh and Hindu communities in North India. But other politicians, anxious to establish the separateness of the Sikh community, supported the new calendar as another pillar of Sikh identity. Moderate Sikhs were anxious about anything that might cause trouble between Sikhs and Hindus in the hothouse atmosphere of Indian communal relations, particularly in the Sikh heartland of the Punjab. IMO it all depends upon which side you are and wherther and how much you can sway the pendulum.
  8. why didn't guru gobind singh wear pants and three button british style coats? did he tie the turban mahority of sikhs tie today? why didnt guru gobind singh have a british, american or canadian passport? why didnt guru gobind singh drive a four wheel car? did he visit harmanar sahib and did ishnan in sarovar as all sikhs pray in ardas? satguruji isnt coming anymore. and we do have a satguru to verify please visit your nearest gurdwara. and bhforce, guru nanak isnt going to fax a calendar from heaven so ultimately some human is gonna produce it. and a few self styled sants are not sikh panth. It became clear in ludhiana when more sikhs were in presence of wise sage Ashutosh than with them. sant Samaj is not sikh panth. they sound more like arya samaj.
  9. Ironically the acceptance of the Nanakshahi calendar could have been a step towards a seperate identity. At least then sikhs could have said , "we sikhs also have our own seperate calendar". or "sikhs dont rely on Pundits to set their calendar dates" . coulda used it as another arguing point against the constitution stoopid article 25. i am not against nankshahi calendar. if tohra had talked to committees of hazur sahib and patna sahib before implementing it then there would have been no problems. although they might have rejected it outright then even coz they lean more towards brahmans. why are you calling it like that? i have not seen you calling bikrami calendar as 'brahmani calendar' which it rightfully is. What has 'Brahmani Calendar' done for Sikhs except re-inforcing the age old cry of Brahmans that Sikhs are Hindus. If a step has been taken forward there is no shortage of people in our quam who take twenty back. If sant Samaj is okay with a Hindu Calendar prepared by Hindus, then it look really stupid and ignorant to oppose Hindu Sages like Ashutosh in Punjab. Sant Samaj is apparently clueless on how to lead so IMO they should keep quiet and as someone said 'should stay away from politics'.
  10. I read somewhere Bikrami calendar is based on lunar cycle whereas Nanakshahi is based on Solar cycle. It wont go out of date or get totally mixed up on dates after a few centuries. Also i think Tohra did not consult or have a meeting with anyone esp. Hazur Sahib and Patna Sahib before making it official. He thought he was supreme and forgot other people have egos too. in my opinion before making a seperate calendar efforts should have been made to classify Sikhs as a seperate religious people in Indian Constitution and have seperate marriage act. Sikhs have stupid leadership for long time and matters does not improve as many still see themselves as Hindus still in my opinion. There is a bodi in many jooras.lol
  11. crazy times need crazy endeavours. rest assured guru granth sahib will protect these innocent people from the negative forces.
  12. politics my friend. there were probably more sikhs in ashutosh samagam than those who were protesting. and majority thinks first about livelihood than anything else. sitting in some western room with all the comforts of life, we cannot really understand the problems of poor people of india where everything and everyone is corrupt and there is no security of life or whatever.
  13. he joined the same battalion that killed his dad. till now his family has collected over 40 lakhs rupees in donation.thats what i read somewhere.
  14. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-wprUJuDrc&feature=rec-LGOUT-real_rn-2r-2-HM funnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnny!!!!!!!!!!
  15. what has become of sikhs? after reading this article, i think sikhsangat users from the uk need to launch an inquiry on mr. 'fordcapri'.
  16. never heard of him. why do indians make so much fuss over nris.
  17. This is really stupid video. I don't even need to see it. Punjab of India is TOTALLY different from Punjab he is talking about. Did the greeks, or whatever set foot in amritsar? Hindus got Hindustan, Muslims got Pakistan what did sikhs get? These bloody H***** don't want christian missionaries in their land or Muslims but kill them but preach others. Sikhs don't need to look outside for enemies, there are plenty of them among our own, they hide and prosper in the community and stab the back AT THE CRUCIAL TIME.
  18. waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru
  19. Awesome. Wow. It was freezing but the experience was awesome. everybody in canada should go and see when it reaches your community in full singh gear.
  20. hahahhahahahaha also tuhinirankar ji jatts don't respect nris. they call them vilait de bhaiye
  21. hahaha the battles are fought for political gains. During war brothers have killed brothers. read mahabharta where your isht devta krishan encourged killing of brothers by brothers. And that 'typical mentality' you talk about is present in every type of gene present in earthly humans and is not limited to jatts. and BHINDRANWALE comes from BHINDER. a JATT caste.
  22. do the solar storms cause increaed magnetic or radio-active (right word?) or wavelenghts on earth that can be detected or responed to by humans?
  23. hahaha so parkash singh badal is a jatt so all jatts are bad. i dont like badal but hes probably done more for sikhi than all jatt haters can do in ten lifetimes put together. also sant bhindranwale was a jatt too. shame on you for following a jatt. dare i say he left many of sikhs infested with 'jatt menatlity'. and there are worse parts than punjab in india, are jatts responsible for that too?
  24. so jatts are the real problem? shame on sikhlion. go to punjab and lets see what you can do. in real life you probably cannot muster even 50 people and you talk about taking on sacha sauda.
