  1. I don't think you would be sitting for 20 mins straight anyways. you stand for brief ardas and then couple of shabads, then lawan, then stand up, go around SGGSji and then so forth for 4 times and then another shabad and then anand sahib and then ardas again and then hukam vaak and then you are done anyways. so you are sitting continuously for about 10-15min. only. The only time people end up sitting for long is when rishtedar starts to do shagan thingie right there in the presence of SGGSji (which shouldn't be done there but taken to some other room or so, if one thinks its needed anyways). So I don't think you have to worry. Also, its human psychology that we get tired when made to sit to listen to keertan, but don't if we are watching movie (sometihng which interests to the mind) and your own wedding is going to be one of a kind experience and I think you would notice that it would pass pretty fast.
  2. Not always Bir-Rass jee. NimanapaN (gareebee) makes you winner at the Guru's court, giyani may make you winner at the duniya's court. You make a choice.

  4. There is something called khalsa desi tea? I didn't know that. There is so little I know, I figure out everyday. have been learning a lot from this forum. What are the ingredients anyways, is it something containing saunf ajwain, soye etc. without the red label/lipton/taza tea ( I mean caffiene) in it. There are different kind of yogi teas avaialable here in USA, I am sure in UK as well, which are supposed to be based on different leaves, not necessarily caffiene containing leaves. Khalsa is supposed to cut down on tea consumption. makes you amli :-)) unless its based on caffiene free leaves.
  5. If you have access to short stories, give the person one story to read. If there are question/answers at the end of the chapter book, ask person to find answers for it. Make up some jumbled up sentences and ask to put them in order. Tru to have a conversation with person in punjabi and ask to answer to you only in punjabi. Help where person needs push to have the sentence going. ARE'nt WE LUCKY TO BE BORN IN THE ENVIRONMENT OF LEARNING GURU'S LIPI. GURUan dee boli. Oh, I feel so lucky.

I should be careful. Man, its just so hard to decide what to ask for. I guess leaving everything upto Waheguru jee is the best bet. One cann't just know whats good and whats bad to ask for. baba jee jithe tuhadi raza, othe rakho. "Prabh dori haath tumare".
  8. The general suggestion I can give is that stay focused wherever you are in life. When at uni, your focus is to do your studies, excel in the subjects that matter to you and at the same time don't loose the focus of your this human life purpose. If you keep these 2 things in mind while at uni, you should be fine. Its all maya around us. The definition of Maya as I have understood is whatever keeps you away from GOD is maya. Whatever breaks that connection between you and the GOD in you, is maya. Live in Maya, as Maya is created by GOD too, but stay aware of it and keep yourself above the Maya. Win over it, don't let Maya win over you. More Maya you get bombarded with, better you learn how to deal with it and stronger you get. If you close yourself in room and kinda just run away from Maya, that won't help you grow either. You will get bombarded by maya again in life and you won't know how to handle it then. In my opinion, all kinds of situations that we go through, there is learning within them. our purpose is to learn and move on. Everyday we are developing, We are not today what we were yesterday and won't be tomorrow what we are today.
  9. The way I see it is that there are supposed to be some souls born (kids) and those souls are supposed to have a particular set of parents. And God has already planned that who are those set of parents for those particular souls. So problem solved. Nothing for anybody to worry about. LEt GOD put together the another parent for your future kids. Let GOD play his drama of life and you be the spectator and the actor in his film. GOD plans your moves and you just move according to what HE wants you to do. If you just focus most of your energy on "NAAM japna, kirt karna and vand chhukna", and leave GOD to worry about other things, you will be the happiest person on earth. AND that my friends is very hard to follow and easy to say. so stop making the list of criteria. Most of your criteria points are not going to be met anyways as during the process of you developing mentally, spiritually, physically, socially, your list of criteria is going to change too. LET the rose of life unfold itself. Don't tell it which way you want it to unfold. GOD already knows and planned it to unfold in the best way. DON"T be smarter than GOD. Just pray to GOD that you become capable of accepting the GOD's ways happily as your ultimate happiness lies in accepting the GOD's Will.
  10. HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo, can anybody be talking about boys living even with parents and still messing around. NO, I am not favouring girls messing around staying in or out, BUT I am just bringing to you guys notice that don't point fingers when most of you BOYS (yeah the ones who specifically pick on girls) also do mess around. I just hate the current society we have where we kinda indicate that boys messing around is ok, but girls not. In my opinion, nobody should, boy or girl, living in or out. BUT as I said few months back, a boy who messed around with one girl, should get a partner who also messed around. Don't look for a perfect girl when you are not perfect yourself. I was going to write it yesterday, but held on. But today I will write that. People who have list of things for girls or boys to qualify, please go through that list once more and see how many qualities you possess yourself before you go hunting those in someone else. .
  11. As ONly Five, veerji, said above, nobody, I mean NOBODY should cut their hair, shave or trim or pluck. The people who do either don't know about Guru Gobind Singh jeee (other races) or they don't follow the sikhi at all if they happen to be born to sikh parents or they have already lost the prevelige to be staying amritdhari if they took amrit but not following the code of conduct which includes not to tamper with your any part body hair. U cann't control the world. there are all kinds of people in this world. I just experienced some different kind of amritdharies over the weekend. I won't talk about it, if I do, I will be doing nindiya I guess. I will just leave the people at the stage they are. In nutshell, NO hair removal allowed for men or women if you sincerely wanna follow sikhism.
  12. as much as I have learned from Kathas by various kathakars, the miracles do happen. SIKHs by doing nam simran/meditating on GOD can become capable of dong miracles as well, but they are discouraged from doing so. When you attain the oneness with GOD, you attain lot of other states in the process, making miracles happen is one of those. But SIKH's aim is not to show miracles. SIKH's aim is to stay within vaheguru's hukam. SIKH is only supposed to do ardas to vaheguru.
  13. Thank you veerji for clarifying.

    Fear

I have seen a similar post like this before too few months back. Is it same person, or different person is feeling the same. As much as I understand life so far, enemy is within us, fear is within us, and GOD is within us too. There is not much to do with outside world. its inside of us which needs developing, with which sometimes outside world helps and sometimes damages. Wake up one morning and say to yourself, I am not afraid of anything. I am going to re-align my life from now on according to Gurmat, there is nothing in world which could damage my physical body or my mental piece. I am not going to let it get to me whatever happens. You will be a new person from that day. And please please dont' go the wrong ways again. Do ardas to vaheguru jee to protect you from walking on the wrong roads. Every step you take in life, there are almost always two directions to choose. Just keep choosing the one where you think Vaheguru jee would be proud of you while watching you every step of your life. NOBODy could ever scare you in your whole life. And never ever be afraid of people saying "nau sau choohe kha ke billi huj nu challi. Answer in your mind "challis taa sahi, countless aje vee nahi chulliyaan". And everyone has a past, if life didn't start with nam japna to start with (which is true for most of us) but how cloudy, that could differ from person to person. And commenting on being forgiven, Forgive yourself then you are forgiven. Thats the hardest part to do. Sometimes others forgive us, but we don't forgive ourselves. But if this feeling of not being forgiven keeps coming to you, then whenever there is opportunity of having Guru sahib present in human form in the form of Panj piyare, tell your story to them, and guru bakhashanhar hai and do exactly what Panj instruct you to do. Guru Ang sang.
  15. So does that mean, that when I shared my dream where I kept free falling in water while reciting vaheguru, I did damage. Not that I doubt Gurbani, but I won't want to get into any vahim bharam. More comments from other sangat members appreciated.
  16. Whats wrong with sharing a dream? What a big deal about it?? I wonder??? lets hear out the myths and truths about it. As far as I know, I don't see anything wrong with that.

    Cobra Dream

A night before I had a dream where I was about to go pick up my older son passing on bridge with my little one with me. And all of a sudden bridge just fell down, even though the bridge I was driving on actually have a road running underneath, but in my dream, I had a freefall through water and I am going and going with my little one holding onto me and I am saying vaheguru vaheguru. I am not kidding, really I was saying that. Out of all this thing, the thing I felt good about is that atleast in my dreams I am nam japping if not in reality all the times. Hopefully that gets counted in my khata :-)) This morning, I had another one with my mama jee being dead in the dream even though he is alive. I have had dreams about my cousin and my fufaR jee and massi jee who have been dead for 10 or more years now and I see them alive in my dreams. Not that I was very close to all of them, I don't know why I get them. But I never really cared or thought about them so much. As I said elsewhere, lets focus on what we CAN change and not bother with what we cannot change.

    Need Advice

I will write here as not in your shoes, but in person's shoes who does that to you. We have a family friend. He is in his mid 30's. We have been bothering him for last 10years to get married. Joke around with him, say things which mean and not mean at the same time. He is really jolly, patient, trying to make everybody happy kinda guy who does respect us. So now that we know his personality, we have been teasing him constantly for years and years. now that you are writing above, I am realizing that we are kinda torturing him, even though he laughs off, but it may be hurting him inside, as when we get together with his family members, we all get on the same side, trying to tell him, how he is going to get buDha not get married etc. etc. And at the end, I usually say, don't mind hunh, we are joking around with you. But to some it could be joke, to recieving party, it could be damaging. Sometimes, we just don't realize what we are doing to the other person. We get habitual of doing things, until one day person stands up and says "Look, I care about you, respect you, like you and all that. I see you as a friend that I won't want to loose. But I just want to put my feelings upfront that when you do/say things in front of my family (e.g. this this and that), I don't feel good about it. I would appreciate if we don't let these seeming-minor things get in the way of our family/friend relationship. I see ourselves together as friends for years to come in life, but these things have been bothering me for long time, and I thought I should let you know how I feel". I hope this helps.
  19. There are words of wisdom that many of you might have heard/read already. "Dear God, let me change what I can change. Let me not try to change what I cann't change. and Above all dear God, give me wisdom to choose between the two". So there you go the answer for your problems, sadness, depression, feeling low, or whatever else it could be. If we have any control at all in this lifetime, thats ourselves. We can not control others. We can be only inspiration to others by being the good role model ourselves. So focus on yourself before you reach to others. I would change the whole world upside down if it was under my control. I would like all to do their nitnem, be good to others, be good themselves, but can I make that happen. Not really. But yes, I can be doing myself what I expect from others. I can pray to GOD to show light to everybody. I cann't take anybody's pain away, but I can be a good listening ear to give them haunsla that babaji nu tuhadi vee chinta hai. Nothing to worry. Good and bad days both don't stay forever. Time is about change, it is going to change.
  20. just wondering, if someone is dying, and you are holding the hand of the dying person and reciting vaheguru vaheguru, I would think that pain does decrease thousands times, dont you think?/ The reason why I am saying is that I did that to someone year ago, she left the body in my hands. first time I saw someone dying in my hands. Left a long lasting impression on me obviously, as thoughts come in my mind, scence comes infront of my eyes, whenever I think about death. actually that was my entry point to sikhsangat, if some of you remember.
  21. vaise, I won't say it as I am protecting my religion. I don't think SIKHISM needs anybody's protection. Its US, Sikhs who need to be protected by SIKHISM. SIKHISM is the way of living, way to get salvation, way to get connected with our innerself, connected with GOD. Why would SIKHISM needs your protection? Isn't it you who needs protection/guidance/wisdom from SIKHISM. Vaheguru doesn't need anybody's protection. ITs teachings contained in SGGSji, that one needs to survive and get out of 84million life cycle. SIKHISM won't go down the drain just because some people don't think of their life as a golden chance as a human to jap naam. Don't you think??
  22. I agree with PJS veerji. You gotta pick your side where you belong. right now, you are like dhobi da <banned word filter activated> na ghar da na ghat da. And to tell you from reality, I went for my husband, having full kesh, curled DhaRi which still looks the same today after no. of years. No change in him. And I was lot less religious at that time when I met him. And you don't need any girl's approval to be what you are. If a particular girl doesn't like you for what you are, that is not the girl to go for anyways. But even before you shoot at girls for blaming for your ID issues, you gotta realize why are you keeping hair anyways?? In no way, I am suggesting to trim or cut, but I would want you to look deeper for answers, what's more important to you, any girl's approval or the Kesh? (Your guru's khushi, if you beleive in GuRu at all). This post is not supposed to put you down or offend you, but to encourage you to look for answers from your within. There are answers inside you, you just didn't learn to talk to your own soul yet. as PJS veerji quoted above Man tu jot saroop hai, apna mool pachhan.

    Cobra Dream

Usually I don't think too much of dreams at all. I ususally forget them as day progress if I don't tell anybody or mentally repeat to myself what I saw in my dream. But anyways, last night (actually usually early morinngs) I got dream that I was doing some process in some furnance, its a huge system which I am supposed to enclose from all sides. But then I forget to do one side and I noticed and corrected. Then I forgot the other side and walked away. And little later I glanced at it, whole thing was kinda bursting. The room that the furnance was in had tooRi in it (the thing you get while processing wheat plants to get wheat out, and you know how easy it would be to get tooRi on fire), and still when I come in room, there is tooRi flying around, but its not catching fire. I see flames, but its not bursting into fire. Then dream ended somehow. whatever that dream means. And few months back, I got dream a snake bit me. I run to pharacist's shop to get something for it. The guy first doesn't see me, eventually he does then he sucks the poison out with his mouth, and nothing happens to me. I felt the next day, that wow, nothing happened to me. I get lot of snake dreams where sometimes I am running for my life. I get lot of wedding dreams as well, where either I am or somebody else is getting married. Most of the time, I am eating lot of mithai (sweets) or have infront of me, and somehow I don't manange to put in my mouth. I get lot of dreams where I am either very late for study exam or got to exam but not writing anything on paper or just don't know the answers. (next morning, I thank GOD I am way over those exam days, they still come to scare me :-)) I am sure lot of people get dreams like I do, but do they really mean anything. I don't really seriously think about them. I also know people who say they rarely get dream. And I was listening to katha from Giyani Thakur Singh jee (Amrit Bani MP3's, katha of SGGSji, in the beginning pauris of japuji Sahib) where he talks about that sometimes its written in destiny of someone to be born as certain creatures, but after one takes amrit and sincerely keep up with rehat and naam simran, Guru sahib makes that person go through those creature births in dreams to cut through the chaurassi one was gonna go through otherwise based on one's previous karmas. So kinda let you suffer through your dreams, and in reality you won't (even though as far as I understand life is a drama itself, a little longer dream than a few minutes night dream).
  24. I have a question about the soul entering the body. As we read in Gurbani that for nine months, the soul does simran in mothers womb, then don't you think the soul enters from beginning. Otherwise how can fetus do simran where there is no soul. I don't remember the exact tuk from gurbani at the moment, but I think at no. of places it says, that for nine months, you did simran upside down, but as soon as you came out, you started developing bond with milk first, then mother, then father and then other relatives. I dont find exact answers when soul enters the body?? I would like to know. The 3HO's say on the 120th day of the pregnancy. If 120 days or 5-6 month figure is correct, then abortion shouldn't be big deal in the first 3-5 months of the pregnancy. I know, it is not right to do after knowing the sex of the fetus. But what about girls who have been raped and got pregnant. or couples for whom it happened when they couldn't afford to take care of the baby or for mothers who are at risk if get pregnant?? Please answer based on any katha from any brahmgiyanee any of you heard of, or direct lines from SGGSji. Thank you,
  25. I forgot now, but Giyani Thakur Singh jee said something about mind's this game, when I was listening to his katha. Mind is a monkey, it needs constant reminders that the right way to move in life is to travel inside you (which you do through listening, reciting Gurbani and Gurbani Veechar). Otherwise, monkey mind's will is to run outside towards the world, the worldly drama that we see around us. The outside drama keeps pulling us towards itself, and we need to constantly keep turning that monkey mind towards opposite direction, towards inside travel. Khalsa soye jo kare nit jang (I might have put the line wrong way, as I havn't looked up, just writing off of my head, which is hurting right now). So eh gal aa. The sangat, listeing Gurbani, reciting banis, listening to katha etc. these are the means to turn the monkey the opposite than what it wants.
