  1. For 99% of situations... Think about this and say it with calm courage, humility and be honest, otherwise it won't work. Tell the people behaving in this manner that you are very sorry that you see their behavior (identify specific behaviour) as abrupt/demanding/challenging. Repeat that you are sorry and that you'll try to change your view. Do everything in your power to change your view. You will notice the problem go away. It does not matter who was responsible, it matters that we are all respectful. Do not have anger, therefore no need to show anger. Easy to say, difficult to do. Punjabi's culture confuses anger with power and courage. Anger is a loss of power, courage and control. You lose power, you lose the ability to empower.
  2. Are you speaking to anyone in person about how you're feeling? Are there Sikh organizations in your area where you can speak to someone in person? You might be some ways ahead of people who appear happy. They are yet to crash psychologically, or some have and maintain an appearance while being lost. It's people like you with some fundamental values who will be needed to support others. Get yourself the help you deserve, take the time you need. Drastic measures in times of emotional upheaval are usually not the best solutions. Take a small step every day toward pulling it together cause you're needed to help others eventually. In helping others you will be addressing the past with present actions.
  3. Stand in front of the mirror longer and you will see more. If you stand long enough you might even see your beauty as it grows in. Little bro awesome post. While you wait, now is the time to work on your spirituality, your poetry, your ethics, your math, your fitness, your empathy, being kind to your parents and others. You'll need all that and more to recognize yourself as a Sikh in the future.
  4. That commercial simply exposes the true thinking of most Indians and Punjabis. What a bunch of absolutely RACIST, stupid, undignified self haters. The irony is that the most fair skinned Sikhs eg. gora Sikhs would find a commercial like that most offensive. Can you imagine brown children watching that commercial? One kind warning letter to cease and desist the racist hate should be sent after which the names of individuals behind such products and commercials should be published and hang on a public wall of shame….they should be put on donkeys with their faces whitened. Anyone know who is behind this and other various racist skin products?
  5. Your gurbani is working honestly and putting forth your best effort. Your paath is taking solace in that fact and then not worrying about controlling things that are outside your control. Those who are truly 'good at something' or even 'the best' see themselves as learning on a path, not at a destination. Let honest work, truth in your heart, and shabad be a foundation for greater courage and confidence.
  6. It is so sad when people parade on here as intellectuals. Kudos to some of beautiful brothers and sisters of jatt background here who do have enough intelligence to understand that ego is behind the embarrassing self congratulatory hillbilly pride. The word “tribe” connotes some kind of hip minority pride. This is actually a deep rooted parental CASTE identity clothed in some modern and pseudo-acceptable concept for the next generation. Who are we kidding when we celebrate and practice to the extreme; sexism, castism, alcoholism, crime, and an illiterate testosterone-drive….and we have the nerve to suggest “culture”! Jattismm is a disease that is driven deep into our subconscious at a very young age. It becomes an embedded identity that feels inseparable because it is driven into us almost as strongly as gender identity. This caste garbage is one of the biggest rots within sikhi and is a direct assault upon our faith. What a disgusting tribute we are to the casteless Khalsa who gave their heads for humanity.
  7. The question you want to ask yourself is not whether you did a bad or good thing. Rather ask how you should handle this from here forward. You are completely right that kesh are required. However, his racial features and skin color are irrelevant to any debate about Sikhi. You should stay away from your friend’s bad influences, but not his heart. Like you he is young and learning. Start with respecting him for his qualities. Once you have a mutual respect, only then will either of you really listen to what the other is saying. Your friend is an innocent victim of a society of older men who celebrate sikhi as their proud caste. At 14 years old and smoking weed, your friend needs your caring concern. You might not be able to stop him, but let him know you care about his weed habit. He could be on a road to doing long term damage. There are times in life when we have to be like an older brother or sister to a friend. This means caring and not being too judgmental. He may need someone to be there The fact that you posted with this query here indicates you are a caring young person and friend.
  8. What's an "apna mona" boxer when referenced on a "sikh" forum? Not meant to elicit an answer, rather food for thought. Also, I certainly hope you did not mean some "paki" as a ethnic slur.
  9. No such thing as a "clean shaven" man in sikhi or otherwise. Nothing against you personally bro as you are using common parlance...but it does show how stupidly conformist human society can be. It is the lowest form of existence and the seed for nazi like ideals. There are clean bearded or beautifully bearded men and plain faced boys in sikhi.... which one are you? and to clarify the above view..... it is a view that guru loving inspirational "mona sikhs" would in humility agree with as they will put guruji, sikhi, and logic ahead of their own ego.
  10. As Mehtab Singh suggests, this question is difficult to take seriously. Even with a very basic knowledge of Sikhi one would know the answer. If you don't have that basic knowledge, it does not make sense that you would be interested in a commitment to sikhi. Anonymous, please elaborate on your background with respect to sikhi. Without that you sound like you are asking the forum to tell you if it's possible to declare yourself a brave king while hiding in a closet.
  11. Your answer lies in what the DIFFERENCE between your hair and your hedge. Because hair shares some characteristics with grass does not mean that hair shares every characteristic with grass. Here is an example of an argument analogous to the one you’re making. An apple is tasty and has an appealing texture, therefore I eat it. Some glues are tasty and have an appealing texture, why shouldn’t I eat them? Because both share characteristics does not mean they share every characteristic. You haven’t felt like putting a dastar on your hedge have you?...so you do recognize some difference.

    Ground Zero

Wow! Mehtab Singh Spoken like a true saint soldier. Your compassionate words show that love is highest logic. What we think are strong facts may be a reflection of our fragile egos. You would have the protestors on either side hugging each other and conceding their positions…. Or at least enough people from all sides would drown out hate and replace it with empathy and humility. Your post deserves a far wider audience. One mosque is not the issue, tomorrow it will be something else. Our egos are the issue. Amongst all the distortion, ripples of love can make waves of change. I encourage you to post your thoughts to many more audiences.

    Ground Zero

great link. the usual rotten stink of pop media on this subject was apparent from miles away. Our guru's were philosophers, scholars, and poets extraordinaire. All of that is contained in the courage of the kirpan. Yet we sometimes approach issues with the chakdey fatey conviction that belongs in a supermarket glamour magazine. Remember for a Sikh, the battlefield requires us to sharpen our poise and intellect as well as weapons. read, learn, question, think with humility, courage, and compassion.
  14. Dear little bro, you are humble and polite, there is no stupidity in your query. It is the failing of people like, me older than you, who have done too little to help younger brothers and sisters have the building blocks so they never feel they have to ask these questions. Some of us are lucky at your age, and we had the foundation and are on top of the world due to the confidence inspired by kes. As for girls, give them more time and more credit and aim higher by working on being yourself and ironically... not aiming. Once you have the type of confidence inspired by kes, what you thought was an important girl may or may not come running after you, but it won't matter as you will not worry about superficial endeavors...which is why you will have just the right woman come into your life at the right time (which should be years away yet!). There are many Sikh guys true to themselves and their kes who at some time have to end up having to deal with the unexpected challenge of quality women interested in them where it was not something they were pursuing at all. Your next few years is a tough stage of life bro and if we can help you inspire you, and keep your confidence up, keep us posted.
  15. The following is my suspicion as I’m not in a position to speak from experience, so take it with a grain of salt. For truly difficult choices…. Do take the Hukam with devotion, but understand that wisdom and strength in a Hukam and making decisions is also honed from following sikhi such you are attached to waheguru. Sikhi does not need to compete with astrologists, pundits, etc. Immersing oneself in waheguru will also help you realize that it’s not just about the decision you make, but the grace and wisdom with which you accept the decision once made and move forward.
  16. Anyone know who the people on the committee are and what their response is to the video? The following is simply cut and paste from youtube identifying the Gurudwara and some committee members. I do not know if it is all true. However, i would like to know what the response is of the committee members. Guru pyaareyo just watch this video and decide yourself, to wht extent this raagi can go to defame our Guru's and literature. this so called raagi Surinder Singh of gurdwara Siri Guru Nanak Sikh Temple Of Edmonton, 14211-133Ave, edmonton AB,Canada is defaming Guru Nanak Dev Ji by using abusive language and cracking jokes on Guruji's jiwani. many times before too complaints were made against him regarding he had stolen $100 and was caught red handed by secretary S. Joginder Singh Pannu and found eating non veg ,,,fish in calgary. It was brought to the notice of Mr Mangat and Mr Randhawa (management committee members) but instead of taking action against him they took his side and was sponsored for the second time. this time we have made this video. as we were told by many people that he cracks jokes using vulgar language on and for Guru Saheb and ladies. here he is sitting in the gurdwara library where sainchi's of Guru Granth Saheb JI, pothi's,nitnem gutka's and other holy literature is placed with satkar. this Guru dokhi should be immediately expelled from gurudwara saheb. The question is why he is been given shelter and been sponsored again and again by Mr Mangat and Mr Randhawa. this is beyond limits. Join together to shunt him out of the gurdwara saheb. . ANohter comment there is as follows: I just got a call from my friend in Edmonton, Canada. Well this S.O.B is the head granthi at Sri Guru Nanak Sikh Society of Alberta, located at 14211 133 Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB, T5L4W3. Their PHONE Number is: 1-780-451-4519. This is hardcore Taksali Gurughar & the management is appraently pro-khalistan, even though they have very good relations with former congress ministers of Beant Singh administration.
  17. Confidence is being loyal, intelligent and aware of the tenets of the faith one proclaims. Without that, what one thinks is too much confidence is nothing more than the shell of arrogance. How old are you? Your "just a little bit" response makes it appear as if you're either posing or you're no older than 13, but that's a pretty early age to worry about 'girls'. To answer the question as to whether you should remove facial hair..., first understand the basis for a Sikh to keep hair and you will have your answer. So tell us, what is the basis for a Sikh to keep their hair? If you don't know say so.
  18. Japjeev, those older than you have let you down with their stupidity and week and cowardly ways in cutting. Good for you for at least asking questions. Here is what you would really be asking if you were an adult.... hope it gives you a bit of insight. So i was wandering is it really that bad to lack confidence and be barbarically ignorant of the basic tenets of the faith you profess. i mean keep the turban and everything but don’t have enough to offer as a man to get the attention of girls and don't have enough confidence as a man to not worry about girls. and i mean learn from someone like diljit, or guru gobind singh ji. To cut facial hair is dead wrong, ignorant and pure buffoonery, but here’s an attempt at justification: i am sure it isnt that bad. SO is it okay? but besides that your a good person who does gurbani and stuff.
  19. If you must (and i don't think you must) identify or point to an entire community, ensure that you include a disclaimer regarding the limits of your stereotyping. Otherwise we are promoting hatred towards toward other groups on a Sikh forum. Such hatred is in line with the KKK or the moghuls that Khalsa fought in the 17th century. It is the kind of hatred Sikhs fight, not the kind we promote. I trust your intention was not to label all pakistani's. While you're thinking about predators, the biggest attack on Sikhs is not by "outsiders" but by those who claim a birthright to Sikhi and are adamant about promoting a Sikh culture and society which denigrates our Guruji's gift of identity.
  20. You might as well ask if we ever thought of committing suicide because we love life and all its glory. Of course, the answer is NEVER. In fact there is NEVER a need to contemplate such questions when one is too busy being being beautiful and grateful. Such thoughts have nothing to do wth hair and pagg, they have to do with ignorance of hair and pagg and inability to live up to being a man. How could it be better when for the rest of your life you have to live with the fact that you did not have the courage to exist as a man?
  21. In that case ban sunglasses, eyeglasses, hats, hair dyes, make up, people must choose to be bald and no facial hair or never shave or cut their hair. Lets also ban cars and other motorized vehicles which can help with quick getaways. What needs to be banned is our own ignorance!

    Raceism

Harmeet, tell us which country you're in and which major city you're close to. Once you tell us, as a collective we should be able to get you names and numbers of a person or organization that can contact you personally to help. You've done a great job by trying to talk and by sticking up for your friend and by posting here. It's our turn to help you. Please follow up.
  23. Not a woman's point here, but first you are not responsible for messing up a girl's life. You are to be credited with giving the opportunity for her to straighten out her life. Your actions from the post seem quite honorable. The only additional thing I could suggest is trying to separate her mother's lies from the 'girl's' lies. But even then you still have someone who lied. It sounds like she is missing a moral compass. And that is the key...to determine that in this case by seeing if she understands what she did is wrong and if she has an explantion. It is very sad that many indian immigrants to the west (and sometimes 2nd generation kids!) are getting a reputation in new lands (due to a combination of racism yet reality) of being liars. I am stunned how punjabi's who identify with sikhi can deliver bald faced lies with a smile. They are shameless.
