The only think unis/employees etc can use within the act, is that if the 'item' in question is seen as a possible health and saftey issue, then if it's private property then they can have objections. In addtion the Race Relations Act says that banning someone due to the kirpan could be indirect discrimination But as been mentioned earlier, go with evidence and articles etc, also it's best to go as a community rather than an individual as the uni will not want any adverse pubilicty of being seen to upset a community. Speak to BOSS, they will be able to help In adidtion I am facing similar issues at the moment. I wasn't let into a football ground recently due to my siri sahib, I am been going regurly for many yrs. I have never been searched, but after July attacks, searches are more common at the staduim now, so they felt my siri Sahib, anyway, we are in ongoing discussions with them, things aren't looking good, but Guru di kirpa, we wiwill see what happens. Waheguru ji ka khasla, waheguru ji ki Fateh Great work from the campaign again, Guru's kirpa, the campaign is 'smashing it' but please a word of warning, a comment made in the report by Harmander Singh is as follows: "Harmander Singh, of the Sikhs in England organisation, said the issue was simply a matter of respect for the Sikh holy book, which was used in the ceremony and some members of the faith believed it was disrespectful for the book to be used in an inappropriate room. He said he had been involved in discussions at a national level involving the wedding industry with a view to finding an acceptable alternative, such as the availability of a room which had not been used for the consumption of alcohol." I don't want to criticise any group being avctive in Panthic issues, but what would the compromise of the availabilty of a room which has not been used for alcohol actually mean? Could weddings still happen in hotels but not in a hall which booze is drunk?, surely the whole purpose of the campaign and more importantly the hukamnama is that Guru Maraj doesn't go to these places at all, regardless if the room is 'clean' or not. When we met outside the Gurdwara, we did an ardas and then my Singhni's dad gave my dad and all his 5 brothers a Fateh and a hug. Gurfateh jio We had a similar problem at Deby Uni many years ago. We explained to the Student uni, that we needed a stall at freshers fair to generate interest and said that we will get the names at freshers fair, so they gave us a stall. If they still don't give you a stall, at freshers fair go around collecting names, get a few Gursikhs there to create an impression and once you have the names, get the society started. you sdon't need an official stall, just collect names and explain you need 25 names to get going Also contact BOSS, they can speak to your student union and put pressure on that way but DON'T join forces with Hindu society, start as you mean to go on. Guru di kirpa, a Society will start if there are dedicated Gursikhs around. Also KSingh, you might not be able to join society, but you can help in background supporting the society Gurfateh ji

But like anything words are words, and actions are wut counts, so respect to all the Gur Sikhs who turned upto Khalsa Camp from different backgrounds with an open mind, u know who you are :wub: ))))))))))) Khalsa Camp did not push any one view, it was all about the 'bhagti' and more importantly there was no 'under cover pushing of views which happens at other camps Talking from experience, I've been on majority of camps in UK in last 7 yrs and have seen the informal discussions take place (the one 2 ones or in dorms etc) that either promote one jatha bandey or even worse slag down another jathabandey. [uk is not that big You can get to any major city (with a Big enough Gurdwara within an hour max) surely an hour is nothing to keep respect for our Guru? also the two familes involved last SUNDAY, LIVE IN Southall, but both travelled to Surrey (about 45 mins away) for the wedding

Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh Another thing The Gursikhs with Guru Sahibs kirpa who organise these camps go to alot of effort and time to do this. These camps take months of planning organizing and in addition in some cases huge financial commitment and can be a headache!!!!!! Contray to public opinion, i don't reckon any of the camp organisers have a 'hidden agenda' to promote one way or the other. These Gursikhs are just trying to do seva. Fair enough some sevedars at certain camps will have a certain view and try to push this (but isn't that the case everywhere!!!). It is up to the organsiers of each camp to make sure those present don't push any hidden agenda!!!!! I personally with Guru Sahibs kirpa came into Sikhi through camps like this so if you have never been to a camp, go to one (anyone it's up to you) and take something postive, if you have been to a camp and didn't like it or disagreed with something there, then learn from it and move on (Isn't that what Sikhi is about - learning and moving forward), just no need to cuss it. Enjoy the camps and don't let them become battlegrounds for personnel/political agendas and also (while i am on a rant!!!!) why isn't anyone talking about the many kids camps happening this summer!!!!!! at the end of the day, those kids camps are wicked and seeing little kids enjoying sikhi is such a boost, many camps are happenign this summer, lets not loose track of the amount of seva still to do. Guru di kirpa, I'll be going to Khalsa Camp, Sikhi Camp, Walsall camp, wednesfield camp and maybe Leeds camps but I'm looking forward to sikhi camp - it's on a beach front this year, gonna be massive details below Sikhi Camp 2005...Its back!! Sikhi camp has been a constant source of inspiration for young Sikhs since it started almost a decade ago. The camp has provided a chance to meet young Sikhs from all over the UK and Europe. What is it? it's a residential action packed 6 days aiming to create an environment that is unlike anything else out there. Sikhi camp has a simple aim: to bring unity in our community by sharing time and experiences with young Sikhs from all over the UK. Every Sikh is proud of their heritage and wants to learn more but they don't want to be preached at. We understand this, that's why an average day at the camp is mixed between short talks, discussion groups and then the whole afternoon is full of cool activities like abseiling, rifle shooting, assault courses, playing football and of course: eating chips and beans.
