  2. Gurfateh!! My advice to anyone wishing to join their country's armed forces is go for it. This is the greatest time to do so, we are in an age where nations recognise Sikhs and will go out their way to help you. I was reading the RAF's uniform requirements the other day and they are so strict on things like hair and the hat having to be 25mm above the eyebrows, but the only group who are exempt from this are Sikhs...i see this as kirpa, Akaal Purukh is specifically helping us go into every career path. Not only that, because there are not many Gursikhs in the armed forces, just one person being in there will act as parchaar, it will help people understand better who we are. Now we were born into an army which was created to be universal, to promote peace but to defend those who need defending. We all live in different parts of the world, im in the UK and this is my homeland this is my tharti and i will do what i can to protect it and my people. Fair enough you may not agree with the current wars in iraq and afghanistan for example, however by rooting out evil from the countries it's being grown in its being prevented from flowering in our own, whether that be attacks or militant uprisings. Also think about the men and women who are risking their lives from our countries even though they dont agree on the wars themselves but just so that we can be less afraid of walking out during the day or working in high rise offices. Think about the reduction in heroine imports since operation herrick in afghanistan, if they werent there fighting insurgents then our drug and crime problems would be worse and its could be your kids coming across these drugs in schools. So all in all if you want a career in the armed forces then the decision should be yours but in terms of sikhi i cant see much holding you back. (i probably sound like i work as a recruitment officer...bur rest assured im not lol ... ) Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  3. Gurfateh!! I remember the Akhand Jaap program at GNNSJ last year and that was absolutely amazing, the sangat was just fantastic. For those 24 hours sangat was in Anand. I don't put that down to the Gurdwara or to the Darbar Sahib. It is all because of Kirpa, when sangat joins together in Ekta, Maharaaj blesses us. Whether you have a kirtan smagam in a Gurdwara, a park, or living room or even a beach. It makes no difference. While you work at your job, on the road and at the beach, meditate and chant. By Guru's Grace, drink in the Ambrosial Essence of the Lord. ||2|| I'm sure the sangat will be coming from far and wide, and just to add to that we'll be in the sangat of our Guru, why would you not want to be there?? Wherever my True Guru goes and sits, that place is beautiful, O Lord King. The Guru's Sikhs seek out that place; they take the dust and apply it to their faces. From what I've heard, this is the first time the Gurudwara is taking Maharaaj Ji to the NECC as it is a Gurudwara owned building and will only be used in the interest of Sikhi. Please lets join together to acompany our Satguru and sit together like true Khalsa. Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  4. Gurfateh!! Does anyone have the video with the music as it's been taken off youtube :umm: ?? The full one is very interesting, but the vid with the music seems to be more powerful and is a far better video to show sikh soc. Thanks in advance :TH: Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  5. Gurfateh!! As you may have gathered from the topic title, I've been looking for a video which was on youtube and now i can't find, with an american lecturer talking about his travels in punjab and coming across Sant Ji. Does anyone have it or know where it is? Thanks in advance. Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  6. Gurfateh!! Another place that may interest you all is Bobbo's Chippy on windmill lane, smethwick. They have a separate fryer for all the veg stuff, and treat amritdhari's with a lot of respect....enjoy!! Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  7. Gurfateh!! Guru Ji's Sipahi and Jassa veer ji thanks for both of those, i take it's sanskrit then well if anyone is able to translate it please do let me know..... Thank you again Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  8. Gurfateh!! A friend of mine is selling this shastar in israel and he has asked if i knew what the writing meant, he reckons its an address of some kind...i was wondering whether someone here might be able to read it??? thank you in advance :TH: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GIANT-ANTIQUE-INDO-P...1QQcmdZViewItem Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  9. Gurfateh!! I'm currently attepmting to make one out of oak should be done bythis weekend...hopefully it will come out ok if it does...ill tell u how to do it.... Gurfateh!!
  10. Gurfateh!! I joined to give the other side of an argument, to try and make debates more balanced. Sometimes on this forum the majority may all agree with something but that in someone else's eyes could be wrong, and i do not believe that you can make that person change their views just because they do not agree with your own....its all about learning from each other!! :TH: Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  11. Gurfateh!! Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaaj was Farladhari as was Baba Fateh Singh Ji. Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  12. Gurfateh!! I don't see the harm in healthy discussion, i don't believe you can just say we can't stop discussing something. If it goes out of hand it is the mods job to sort it out otherwise, i believe those who have knowledge should spread it and let each individual draw their own conclusions from it. I was speaking to a muslim and she said to me, you know a fair amount on Islam and you obviously look into it. If Sikhism was so perfect then you wouldn't need to find out about other religions. That in my eyes is complete ignorance. I believe that we have been given this brain and intellect by Akaal Purukh and we should utilise it to capacity, it is very to easy to be ignorant, but then you won't ever have strong beliefs, as you would have had nothing to compare it to solidify your beliefs. We are on an ever lasting learning quest and we should be more than happy to help each other. I hope i made some kind of sense :TH: Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  13. Gurfateh!! I think you mean bakra, it was not defenseless, Akaal Purukh was always by itside and now it's Mahaprashad, again which was Maharaaj Ji's hukham. Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  14. Are you sure? Gurfateh!! Apologies, that has been rectified like i said: Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  15. Gurfateh!! Akaal Purukh told us to stay away from stuff like meat and alcohol because we get easily attached to them. Alcohol messes with your mind and makes you suscpetible to kaam krodh lobh moh and hankar. If you come in contact with a bit of alcohol its not the end of the world, it can be as an anti sceptic. If some shower gel goes in you mouth (don't ask how) then just rinse it out. Either way your not going to turn into a drunk and start committing sins. Most mouth washes contain alcohol, but your not using it to get drunk but to stay clean. Its all about what YOUR intentions are. Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  16. Gurfateh!! With regards to ragis not doing kirtan in raag it is not because they don't know it but because they want to make most profit, sangat thesedays will walk up and go if kirtan is not 'fun' to them, so ragis will have to play filmy tunes to keep people interested. This is a very sad situation but true. As i mentioned before our Gurus have told us how to get the most out of Gurbani, however if you want to just read it or sing it as you please, then carry on its not a bad thing but, you will get more out of it as if it is done as prescribed by our Gurus. Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  17. Gurfateh!! Just remember Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj is split up into Raags, not by which Guru/Bhagat compiled what bani or not by the length of the shabad, but by RAAG. Guru Ji has told us how to get the most out of Gurbani, we are told when to sing it, how to sing it, what beat to sing it to just to make the most out of it. Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaaj has classed Raag with utmost importance. I once read that Nihang Singh gave the following analogy to emphasize the importance of Raag: Imagine Amrit being prepared in something other than a Sarabloh bata, is it still Amrit? Raag is the same vessel, the same bata for which Bani is prepared. Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  18. Gurfateh!! Muslims have to give 2.5% The Compulsory Charity (Zakah) In Islam, the true owner of everything is God, not man. People are given wealth as a trust from God. Zakah is worship and thanksgiving to God by supporting the poor, and through it one’s wealth is purified.. It requires an annual contribution of 2.5 percent of an individual’s wealth and assets. Therefore, Zakah is not mere “charity”, it is an obligation on those who have received their wealth from God to meet the needs of less fortunate members of the community. Zakah is used to support the poor, orphans, and widows, help those in debt, and, in olden times, to free slaves. (source: http://www.islamreligion.com/articles/3/) Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  19. Gurfateh!! I was just reading the other thread about if Guru Ji was here in human form, and i was thinking if Guru Ji was then would you seriously go to your Guru empty handed? Would you not take something to offer. Even if it is 1 penny. We spend so much on ourselves it's not just about giving 10% give more when you can and if you can, we don't really need all the money we have. Our Guru has given us everything, shelter and food and so much more. If the golak was outside somewhere how many people would just walk past it, i have seen golaks outside halls and people don't even look twice. When you matha tekh there is plenty of stuff infront of you so why you would feel as though your bowing to money i don't know. We need to be able to focus on Akaal Purukh at all times. Please also remember Gurdwareh need money to run, don't think that all committees eat all the money because they don't. Gurdwareh have bills, and i have seen some hefty council tax bills for Gurdwareh. Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  20. Gurfateh!! I know a singh who is selling his set, there are very good but £300 for the 2 let me know if you interested via pm and ill pass on his details to you. ps. the singh is based in leicester. Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  21. Gurfateh!! I just wanted to wish the sangat and all your parvaar a chardikala new year and may Maharaaj Ji bless us all with Gursikhi jeevan and help us refrain from the 5 evils. Also to help us remain united and create ekta between everyone so we are prouldly seen as the KHALSA throughout the whole world!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! In the month of Chayt, by meditating on the Lord of the Universe, a deep and profound joy arises. Meeting with the humble Saints, the Lord is found, as we chant His Name with our tongues. Those who have found God-blessed is their coming into this world. Those who live without Him, for even an instant-their lives are rendered useless. The Lord is totally pervading the water, the land, and all space. He is contained in the forests as well. Those who do not remember God-how much pain must they suffer! Those who dwell upon their God have great good fortune. My mind yearns for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan. O Nanak, my mind is so thirsty! I touch the feet of one who unites me with God in the month of Chayt. ||2|| Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  22. Gurfateh!! Just a quick point, but i have just been doing a bit of research on this ban and nowhere have a i come across this being a complete ban on the import of all swords. This ban will only affect replica samaurai swords as these are easy to get hold of and have been used in many crimes in the UK here are some news articles about the proposed ban: http://news.google.co.uk/news?q=ban+on+swo...ws&ct=title I have signed the petition, however the petition does not state the facts. In the future the Government may decide to ban all swords but this is highly unlikely at the moment but do be aware and keep an eye out, as when this happens we will need to act!! Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  23. Gurfateh!! I may be mistaken but i have read a number of times that the clock tower was actually a church. If it was then it is sad that it was taken down, as i believe it symbolises that two religions can live in harmony on each others doorsteps. Don't forget that Amritsar has been a sacred place long before the Gurus were there. Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  24. Gurfateh!! Please do sign this and send it around on all your mailing lists... it is important please do realise this!! Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
  25. Gurfateh!! In all the time that i've been in southampton, i can say i've never found it racist. So many of the goreh here have a lot of respect for Sikhs, those who do not know much do ask questions but are intrigued. There are idiots in every community, but i do not believe that this incident has had any effect on Sikhs here, these so called Sikhs will be punished by Akaal Purukh! But we must forgive them and get them on the path of true Sikhi. Bhul Chuk Maaf! Gurfateh!!
