  1. I think your interpretation is quite right- it matches mine at least! I think this is another of the cases where Guru Ji explains how foolish certain practices are, and thus even after being buried, it may well be the case that a deceased muslim is burnt anyway. I have always thought personally that the logic behind this line of Gurbani is exposing the falsehood of judgement day, when buried dead bodies are said to rise again as per the beliefs of some other religions. Adherents of such religions refuse to be cremated in the belief that they will again later need their bodies for the afterlife ( The decayed bodies are said to be refashioned afresh!). This line shows the foolishness of such beliefs, as the body becomes decomposed to dust anyway, so what is the difference if it is cremated to ashes? Just my interpretation folks!
  2. I think it was going to be hard to win this one anyway, with Geldof running, and the whole Band Aid 20- perhaps if it was another year, in which Mr Geldof had not made such a prominent contribution, we could have had a winner. Anyway, on this occasion, to be quite honest, if we were all impartial (I guess I'm not- I placed my 5 votes for the Sikh candidate!), Geldof would probably have been our choice too- he has done a lot. However, it is a shame we missed an opportunity to raise our pprofile through sheer laziness.
  3. hmmmm... if you both hadn't confused me, I think I would have known the order :T:
  4. Jagmeet, where did you hear this? Let's hope they don't change it too much if it is true
  5. This is such a shame- it truly was one of the best sites about 84. Lets hope the mp3s and videos find their way to other affiliated sites, as they are a hugely useful tool for educating the youth about the events of 84. I still can't believe the site is no more, but would just like to thank all those who put it there in the first place
  6. I think its definately going to be anti-panthic activity at work here, as there are many more prominent sites that bored hackers might have tried. Keertan.net is in my opinion a niche site, but one that REALLY does a lot for Sikhi, making it a target
  7. A great story, I'm sure it will help many people. Perhaps you could re-post this nearer the beggining of University year time so that people can access it when they need it. But once again, it really was inspirational stuff
  8. WQe are not always ina position to check details of all the fiodstuffs we consume, but surely if we are aware that there are any offensive ingredients contained, then we should indeed refrain from eating ( that is the said foodstuffs, not eating in general)
  9. I think considering the part of the forum this was posted in, it shouldn't be an issue. Anyway, they were funny!!
  10. Quite honestly, an amzing poem. Please keep them coming.
  11. I'm not sure taht the ages you talk about correspond to the ages that are mentioned in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Maybe I have misinterpreted your post? For a start, why would all before the year 500 be discounted- are we to believe this was what is reffered to as 'AAD Sach'- the timeless begging. I think the ages we talk about would extend far further than this, and have to take into account all of history. I'm not even sure I am making any sense here. Apologies if this is the case
  12. Just you wait- I'm not far behind now. I think I might even have hit double digits!
  13. Does anyone know who the artist is in the said video where " the girl the singer fell in love was doin paath from a gutka sahib in a car n she falls asleep, so the guy, wit hands unwashed, head uncovered, takes the gutka sahib from her n starts lokin thru it, n the girl had a picture of the guy in it" It would be good if we had some way of finding out who it was, so we could express our feelings. What channel was it on, what show etc- anything that will help us uncover will be good.
  14. I think we should be acreful about seperating people from their gold khandas and the like. In many cases, such objects are the only link between such individuals and Sikhi. In my opinion, we should be working to enhance this link, and not destroy it, hence such action is counter-productive. While such singers may not be really doing anything from a Sikhi-orientated perspective ( we assume this is the case, but cannot neccesarilly confirm this), we can use the window they open to our advantage if we are only willing to look at things a little differently. However, I do agree that on instances where the lyrics go totally against the tenets of Sikh, singers should avoid wearing such symbols, and similarly where the videos are appropriate. Maybe a balanced message like this can be made to work out for the good of all, rather than bluntly just saying NO. We should be reaching out to people, not hacking the arms of those who put them towards us. Just my opinions, hope I haven't offended anyone, sorry If I have. Thanks for taking the time to read,
  15. About the eggs- I was recently reading something in the Metro newspaper ( I also saw similar articles in other papers ). This article was about how a family brought a pack of free-range eggs, and one of them being a biologist or something realsied some of the eggs were fertilized ( doesn't say how), and so incubated them, and they hatched. So, the choice for egg eaters is either eggs from battery- caged hens, and the obvious suffreing, or free-range eggs that may well have been fertilised, as roosters are often kept with free-range hens for some reason or other. Free range eggs are also, not guilt-free even if unfertilized either- a hierachy develops among free range chickens in the entrapped conitions of a free-range farm, in which the dominant hens begin monopolizing food, and attack weaker ones. There is some stuff about this on the Peta website, but many will claim this is likely to be one sided. I did have a more balanced view taken fron somewhere on the internet, but can't find the article. If nothing else, this shows in the very least taht if you are a vegetarian because you believe Sikhi tells you to show compassion to other living creatures ( especially those with a certain level of consciousness ( ie animals)), then such compassion is hindered by continuing to eat eggs while being a vegetarian. For other, the choice is their own- I can't imagine non-veggies being too concerned about such concepts of compassion. I think what I mean is that if you are a veggie because you think Sikhi has instilled values of compassion into you, you should cut eggs, if you have some other explanation of being a veggie, maybe this does not apply, and likewise, it doesn't apply to n on-vegetarians either. Its all about interpreting why you are a vegetarian in my book, and building up such thought processes from that. I've sincerely tried to be accomodating to ALL voiews here, so hope I havent offended, or disregarded anyone. :TH:
  16. Is it true that the guy is a mona taxi driver now, and doesn't believe the Suleman ghost stuff? :T:
  17. Truly an amazing story, please keep posting Phaji, your words really and truly reach out and inspire us all. :TH:
  18. I cannot agree more with the posts here- action is urgently needed to protect the Sikhi saroop, but such action has to be taken without unneccesarry harm to those who do not bear the saroop, or do not yet bear the saroop. I think first we should make a distinction to those who do not have the saroop, but yet show full respect for it, and acknowledge the fact that it remains essential for Sikhs today. On the other side, there are those who believe the saroop is unimportant, and should play no part in "modern Sikhi". These are the people we need to educate with urgency. These are the people who fail to understand that it is the Guru's Saroop that ensures the continued existence of our faith, and without this distinction, it is inevitable we are doomed to fall into assimilation with the Hindu's through their aggressive Hindutva approaches. We need to educate people to show them why the Saroop is so important. It is absolutely imperative that we we show them sacrafices made by shaheeds to protect the saroop, especially in cases where it cannot be argued that sacrafices were made for any reason other than to protect the saroop. Speaking to various people who are not Keshdhari, I have found with unfortunate amazement that a large number believe the way forward for Sikhi is without the saroop, and that the saroop prevents more people from joining the sikh qaum. Certainly, I agree with tem to the extent that an empty saroop is worthless- ie it is more important for those in the Guru's saroop to have at least some gun of Gursikhs rather tahn just the identity. But the point here is, that the minority of individuals in saroop who do not bear such gun are highlighted, while the majority, who have at least some love for Sikhi are overlooked. In this way, many have come to actually believe those in the saroop are phoneys etc etc ( just look at the playwright Bhatti's apparent view of those in saroop). It is clear there are fools who are absolutely blind to the truth, fools who by dismissing the identity gifted by our Guru's dismiss the sacrafices made to maintain such an identity, and the sacrafices continually made today. It probably goes without saying that all who bear the saroop have had to put up with either taunts, bullying or other hardships directly as the result of being Keshdhari/Amritdhari. It is important we honour such sacrafices rather than criticising those making such sacrafices for beiong "out of touch" ( as was once quoted to me!) So, whether you are a Nihang :e: , a regular dastaar Singh , a trimmed beard with dastar  )))) , a patka-wala :kid: , or even a mona with a mohawk (there are no smilies of women here) , Make sure you give maximum respect to the Saroop of our Guru's, and do your best for your brothers and sisters who do YOUR Sikh quam proud by choosing to maintain the very same saroop. May Waheguru bless us all so that one day we can all support this Saroop, and that the Saroop then encourages us all to become better Sikhs, so that we can finally do OUR Shaheeds proud. Waheguru Je Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Je Ki Fateh.
  19. If only we had some of the courage these Singhs showed. Let us pray that we too can find what was awoken in these remarkable Gursikhs that day
  20. In the second Friday film, there is a Singh at a petrol statin, who Ice Cubes dad in the film mocks, aclling him Sinbad, and makes a refrence to a flying carpet or something like that.
