  1. All my posts are made on the assumption that somebody who is just beginning their spiritual journey into Sikhi is likely to come across my posts. Some the members can get absorbed into the communication to each other. However, I will always post so that my post is meaningful to someone starting in Sikhi, or even a child. You could say that I am aiming at beginners like myself!

  2. You know how you can get the RKK.net MP4 videos on your PSP from you tube... Does anybody know if you can get Gurbani, in any format, on a DS Lite? Only I have a DS Lite I would like to make use of. Can anybody help at all, please?
  3. You could start by replacing the things you know are a waste of time. Some people start by replacing the following first: watching telly (unless it's the Sikh Channels or Sikh Radio, or educational programs in general) Going to Pubs and Clubs shopping for luxuries you don't need gaming, (unless it's exercise - keep exercising). reading magazines and papers etc. If you make a list of the time spent on the above you'll find you've got loads of time to learn about Sikhi. Anytime spent at the Gurdwara is not wasted (all the more so if you understand Punjabi)' Cut the things out that you think are a waste of time and replace them with Sikhi. Whether that be listing to Kirtan, Katha, paath, watching the Sikh channels, or listening to radio, or reading your history (you will benefit from all). It's very easy if you sit down and think about the time you waste (Work for a living and exercising are not wasting you time!). If you want a really easy way to make more of your time just switch over to any of these channels on Satelite/Sky. It's so easy, all you have to do is sit back and watch and listen: Sky 840 Sikh Channel Tel 0121 380 1050 info@sikhchannel.tv Sky 847 Sangat TV email info@sangattrust.org Sky 848 Sikh TV Tel 0121 761 1313 email info@thesikhtv.com Sky 0150 Sukh Sagar Radio (tel 0208 571 7200 or 0208 813 900 info@sukhsagarradio.com Sky 0716 Amrit Bani Radio (tel 020 8606 9292/9595) info@amritbani.com

As Matheen says, it's all about Sangat. If you take Amrit and then spend your leisure time with people who do not believe you need to take Amrit to get closer to Guru Ji, then it's going to be very difficult. If you spend your leisure time with the Guru's Amritdharis, then it's going to be easy.:waheguru:
  5. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh, Any Singhs or Kaurs please correct me if I've got this wrong in anyway... Dear FeelinKhandaSikh, The word Mehl translates to area or mansion. I believe this is to acknowledge that the bodies of the 10 Gurus were like houses or areas that contained the Shabad/jot, or through which the shabad came through, that's what made them the Sat Gurus. Guru Nanak Ji used to say to Mardana Ji, please get the Rubab "Dhur Ki Bani Aayie" meaning Gurbani will be coming through my body from Sach Khand (Sach Khand the plain of Truth). That's why the Gurus are referred to Mehl 1 , 2 3 etc, their bodies were conduits for the Vaheguru's Shabad. As Guru, each Guru from Guru Nanak Dev JI to Guru Granth Sahib jI had the same Jot/sole, only their outwardly appearance is different. This backed up by. "the Guru is the Bani, the Bani is the Guru" Today, the 11th Final eternal Sat Guru for the Sikhs is Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib jI, for evermore!! If one of the more learned Sikhs wants to correct me please do!
  6. I find that Giani Takhur Singh Ji has this brilliant talent for adding a bit of humour into his Katha, at exactly the right time! It's so subtle, but so funny. Giani Ji is very deep and knowledgeable but also understands that the general public (like me) need a bit of humour to give us a mental break and keep us interested. The other 'gem' from Giani Takhur Singh Ji's Katha of Japji Sahib Ji is the Saki about greed. It's the one about the man who's told that if he goes so deep into the jungle he will find a pressure material, but not to go any further. The man's greed makes him go further and further, it's a great ending... this is Giani Takhur singh Ji's humour at it's best !!!
  7. Have you heard Giani Thakur Singh Ji (Patiale Wale's) Katha on this. As always Giani Ji presents it in a brilliant fashion (it's almost humourous)!! He mentions that sometimes even the Jamdhoots get it wrong and get the wrong address. He tells a story of a Raja who didn't want to be taken when it was his turn. I forget the full Katha but the raja somehow cheated death and was therefore still alive. However, the Jamdhoots were not having any of this. They were still coming to get him on his 'destined death date - which is set the day you are born". Anyway, the Raja knows they are coming so he gets his servants to make almost perfect matches of statues of himself. He gets his servants to put the statues in open coffins and lies totally still in a coffin himself. When the jamdhoots come they keep staring at all the coffins and are puzzled as to which one to take. Then one of the Jamdhoots who was very clever thinks of a plan to catch the raja out. He starts critising the statues and starts to saying things like, this one doesn't look real, his got funny eyes, and this one doesn't look real because he's got a bent nose. When he gets to the raja's he makes another rude comment, something "like this one looks really ugly". It is at this point the Raja gets up and says, I am not ugly, I am the real raja. The raja is then taken away by the Jamdhoots! My version is probably not that accurate, but you get the idea..
  8. I totally agree we have to give respect for the channels who remember the Sikh children, women and men who have had their water diverted, the rights witheld, been rapped, beaten, and burnt or beaten to death! If we keep supporting them (or even more important we get others to support them) we'll NEVER live to reget it. 9. By the way - All the above channels are free to watch. Please watch them and you'll see they are worth supporting
  10. Dear Veer Ji Sarbjeet Singh Ji Please allow me to give you a few phrases from some very educated and successful people. As this is an English Forum, I will give you the phrases from English speaking people rather than in Punjabi. An English lady, McMillan received the baptism of the Khalsa. Once she addressed a Sikh congregation and while addressing she spoke about the importance of hair as follows. “My dear Sikh gentlemen: the Keshas of your head are not simply hair; these are those electric wires that you attach to the power house of mighty Guru Gobind Singh Ji and are cultural on the hoary head of Bharat Mata (mother India).” And the famous writer Solomon is of the view that the hoary head is a crown of glory if it be found in the way of righteousness.” (Ref. the book ‘Many thoughts of many minds’ by Henry South Gate, page 229). Please note: Hoary means Venerable - which means of noble character, impressive, commanding respect! Like McMillan, another English lady Mrs. M.A. Steel, in her book on women, has written about the significance of the hair for the Sikhs. “You might have seen that the hair on the head of the Sikhs look beautiful and dignified. And why should they not look beautiful and dignified because they are in the proper uniform provided to man by God? They are the precious treasure of splendour and are like a crown of dignity. If we make an unbiased observation, we find that men with moustaches and beards appear more manly, and in manliness lies man’s real charm and dignity. It is symbolic of his high spirits. Nobody with a sense of self-respect would wish to lose it.” It is no wonder that a woman is educating menfolk about the manliness connected with the hair? General Sir Charles Gough in his book ‘The Sikhs’ writes that the, “Sikhs do not agree to trim their hair under any circumstances and under any compulsion. They do not mind sacrificing their life for this. According to Guru Gobind Singh, the hair are the manifest symbol of recognition of a Sikh.” Can there be a Sikh who aspires to be happy by losing this symbol of strength and insignia of glory? The great poet R N Tagore said that “the Keshdhari is the best form of the best man” George Bernard Shaw was a very intelligent man who also left his mark on this world. Some of his achievements were: · He wrote 60 plays, music, literary criticism, articulate Journalism, and co-founded the London School of Economics which is still a world leader today! · Bernard Shaw examined Education, Marriage, religion, health care, government, and class privilege. · He made great progress in the furtherance of, equality for men and women, reducing abuse of the working class, and promoting a healthy lifestyle. As a small child Bernard Shaw asked his father why he shaved off his beard. Bernard Shaw’s father could not give him a satisfactory answer. As a result, when he grew up, Bernard Shaw kept his beard and moustache, and went on to do the above with his life !!!
  11. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh, Media is Mightier than the Pen! – especially when it's used to communicate the Gurbani the Guru's gave us through the Pen !! Dear Singhs and Kaurs Sky 848 Sikh TV Tel 0121 761 1313 email info@thesikhtv.com Sky 840 Sikh Channel Tel 0121 380 1050 info@sikhchannel.tv Sky 847 Sangat TV email info@sangattrust.org Guru Gobind Singh Ji - KING of Kings, MASTER of Masters told us to raise the sword, or weapons, to protect ourselves, and others, as a last resort, and only when all other means had failed. As you know the sword can be used to protect innocent people of all races and religions, in the way Guru Gobind Singh Ji used it. Guru Gobind Singh Ji was free from enmity! Guru Gobind Singh Ji also told us to be trained in weaponry, at all times, for defending ourselves and others. Guru Gobind Singh Ji was free from enmity! You also know that the sword can be used to slaughter innocent people the way Aurangzeb used it. Aurangzeb was a murderer who happened to be a ruler too. You have all heard about the phrase "The Pen is mightier than the Sword" coined by playwright Edward Bulwer-Lytton. Guru Gobind Singh Ji's Zafarnama to Aurangzeb is the perfect example of this. If you read the Zafarnama you will see that Guru Gobind Singh Ji's pen was very mighty! Guru Gobind Singh Ji was the complete and perfect Guru, as well as being the complete and perfect warrior!! Some of you may have also heard about the phrase by Robert Burton who said, "it is clear how much more cruel the Pen may be than the Sword". The laws Aurangzeb had enforced, which were written by pen, were very cruel indeed! So what means, or methods, was Guru Gobind Singh Ji referring to when he said that we were to use those means, or methods, before we picked up the sword, or a weapon? Well in my humble opinion, I think Guru Gobind Singh Ji was referring to ALL means possible before you were forced to pick up a weapon. So Guru Ji would have been referring to the Pen, and communication in general, this is backed up by Guru Ji's Zafarnama to Aurangzeb. The single most powerful media, for communication, in the world today, is Television!!! As Guru Ji was referring to communication should we not follow Guru Gobind Singh Ji's command and use this very very powerful media to help Sikhs learn about their religion? And, anybody else who wants to learn about Sikhi? So as Sikhs, is it our duty to support the Sikh TV Stations? Or should we ignore Guru Gobind Singh Ji's command and not use these very powerful means and methods of self-defence? Please contact the Sikh channels below and see how you can support them. They all need financial support to survive to serve you, Sikhi, and humanity!! Please also ask your friends and family to support these Stations by becoming members. These channels reach millions and millions of people: Sky 848 Sikh TV Tel 0121 761 1313 email info@thesikhtv.com Sky 840 Sikh Channel Tel 0121 380 1050 info@sikhchannel.tv Sky 847 Sangat TV email info@sangattrust.org Can all employees and sevadaars of the above stations communicate in a very warm and welcoming fashion when you are contacted by somebody who wants to become a member of your station, or give you financial support (remember - you are a representative of your station!!!) .

  15. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh, Does anybody know if there are any Sikh Channels outside of the UK? Are there any in America, Canada, Austrialia, or any other country outside of India? Pease add their email address, phone number, and mobile number too: If you know of any please could you add them to this list below. 16. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh, Your appearance will actually work out to be a brilliant protection system. Let me explain... If you cut your hair to make friends with people who would otherwise have rejected you, then, do you really want to be their Friend? I mean, if they can't accept you for who you actually are (you're a Sikh!), then why do you want them to accept you as a shaved and trimmed SIkh? The only people who will reject you, with your Kesh, will be uneducated people with racism inside them. Do you really want to be their friend, ultimately, those people will reject you, even without your kesh Everyone experiences racism, including Sikhs. If you keep your kesh you can guarantee that you will only make friends with good tolerant people of all colours, races, and religions! Isn't that the sort of people you want to make friends with? There are lots of educated, happy people out there too. You will still experience ignorance and racism, even if you get shaved and trimmed. In the work place, the era of the 'in crowd' is fast disappearing. The only thing that counts is how good you are at your job, and how much money you can make for the organisation you work for (in some ways this is how it should be for equality). With the world recession on nobody can afford to employee someone just because they look a certain way! Companies know Sikhs work hard!! Whenever you look in the Mirror, think of: all the Guru's, from Guru Nanak Dev Ji to Guru Gobind Singh Ji, and the current and eternal Sat Guru, Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Think about all the Shaheeds, including your Gurus. Think about Guru Arjan Dev Ji sitting on the hot metal plate while sand was poured over him. Think about Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji being tortured for months before being beheaded. Think about Guru Gobind Singh Ji fighting 14 successful battles, to save innocent Sikhs and innocent Non-Sikhs Think about the Four Sahibzadey, Including the two infants Sahibzadey being bricked alive. Think about the forty liberated ones returning to their faith and becoming shaheed. Think about Bhai Mati Das Ji being sawn in two. Think about Bhai Dayala Ji being boiled in a cauldron, think about Bhai Sati Das Ji being wrapped in cotton and being burnt alive, think about Bhai Taru Singh Ji having his scalp removed rather than his Kesh being cut, think about Bhai Mani Singh Ji being cut limb by limb rather than give up his Guru think about Baba Deep Singh Ji saving all those innocent non-sikh women and girls from Slavery and returning them to their families, think about him fighting with his head on his palm to free the Harmandir Sahib. think about, Bunda Singh Bhadar Ji, and how he had his own 14 year old son's body cut open in front of him, and then his own son's heart forced into his mouth. Then he was tortured and killed Think of the Sikh Women who wore were made to wear their babies and children as chopped up necklaces Think of all the Shaheeds killed by Aurangzeb Think of all the Sikhs that have been killed to this day by the indian government, before and after 84 Think of all the Shaheeds! Read your history, that always removes any doubts! Think about the white American and Russian Sikhs who have adopted Gursikhi, and other races around the world!!! Once you have looked in the mirror, and thought of the above, then go to the Gurdwara and bow down in front of your living Guru, Dhan Dhan Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Thank your Guru for blessing you with Kesh and then sit down and join the Sangat of Gursikhs around you who also keep their hair! Absorb yourself in the Gurbani, Kirtan, Katha. Absorb yourself in seva, in and out of the Gurdwara. Absorb yourself in your nitmen and Simran of the Jot of the 11Gurus, Vaheguru. Then you'll remember why you became a Singh. The more you belive in your Guru Ji and trust that he will take care of you, the more you will be taken care of ! You are the Guru's Singh, and for that, you have my full and utter respect!

  18. The statement at the beginning of this Topic needs to be read out on one the Sikh Channels below. On the TV stations it could be done in such a way that 1984, and other historical clips, are shown whilst the above article is being read out. It should be read by a Gursikh with an inspiring voice (you know the ones how normally do the voice overs). It could also be done in Punjabi. However, I think all three TV channels should do things like this simultaneously. If they did these sorts of things together then it would give us more strength. All three channels would be more protected as one could not be 'picked on'. Most importantly of all it would show that we as Sikhs are united and our channels are even united too ! Sikhs are being "divided and ruled" by the indian Government at the moment... let's not walk into their trap!! If there are any Sikhs who have contacts at any of the channels below. Please arrange for the above statement to be read out. Or if you know a Sikh who can make these types of things happen then please contact that Sikh to make it happen Sky 840 Sikh Channel Tel 0121 380 1050 info@sikhchannel.tv Sky 847 Sangat TV email info@sangattrust.org Sky 848 Sikh TV Tel 0121 761 1313 email info@thesikhtv.com Sky 0150 Sukh Sagar Radio (tel 0208 571 7200 or 0208 813 900 info@sukhsagarradio.com Sky 0716 Amrit Bani Radio (tel 020 8606 9292/9595) info@amritbani.com
  19. Dear Sangat Ji, You are right, the Sikh Population will only grow if every Sikh Couple has three children or more who then adopt a Gursikh's lifestyle and take Amirt. This also requires those 3 Gursikh to marry Gursikhs and then have 3 or more Gursikh Children. Going by data (facts) over the past couple of decades Gursikh/Amritdhari population is decreasing in a big way. There is no doubt that Sikhs should marry Sikhs. But remember, from Guru Nanak Dev Ji to Guru Gobind Singh Ji there wasn't just people being born into Sikhi, there was also people coming into Sikhi. All of the humanity around the ten Gurus was so inspired by all the 10 Gurus that they took Amrit and Became sikh!. Are we saying that our 11th final and eternal Guru Granth Sahib Ji can't inspire and welcome people into Sikhi. Or do we have to rely on breeding programme? There are Christians all around the world, Black, white and brown. They have their own cultures, and as you know, in mosts cases, the Black Christians marry Black Christians, the White Christians marry White Christians, and the Brown Christians marry Brown Christains. This is not racism but more about different cultures and communities within a religion. Do you think we should have that in Sikhi. ie. Let different colours and communities of people adopt the Sikhi religion but not have to give up their separate cultural identity. I mean could there be Black African Sikhs who prefer to marry Black African Sikhs?, and White Western Sikhs who prefer to Marry White Western Sikhs?, Chinese Sikhs who prefer to marry Chinese Sikhs?, Rusian Sikhs who prefer to Marry Rusian Sikhs?, and Punjabi Sikhs who prefer to marry Punjabi SIkhs? It's not to say that all of the above couldn't marry each other at all! That's not what I mean at all. What I am saying should Punjabis have the 'monopoly' on Sikhi? Or can other Countries and Communities around the world fully adopt Sikhi without having to marry Punjabis? Look at 3HO? Finally, it's not that difficult for a young shaven and trimmed Sikh Man or Woman to get Married. Especially if they drink, party and dress up to attract and seduce each other. As you know, with that lifestyle it just a matter of time before they meet someone and get married. So it's likely that shaven and trimmed Sikh Men and Women will continue to get married, especially as it's more acceptable for them to have a few relationsips before the find the 'right one', or the right partner for marriage. Some of these couples will and do go on to take Amrit in Later life and become great Gursikhs. However, what about those who are already Amritdhari Sikh Man and Women before they get married? How do they meet a partner. They don't go Clubing like the shaven and trimmed sikhs. They don't go to wedding parties because of the booze and dancing, so can not go through the mating procedure of enticing a prospective partner to themselves through the dance floor etc. And because people do not generally go to each others houses like they used to in the old days.... the families struggle to find an 'arranged marriage' partner for them (ref Sikh Channel Programme 7pm Sunday). I think the way round this is that the friends of Amritdharis should all become match makers for Amritdharis i.e the friends of Amritdharis should arrange an Amritdharis wedding. As long as the Amritdhari marries an Amritdhari it's all well and good! As long as both partners are happy with each other, meet each other before marriage to make sure there are no personality clashes, and checks are done to make sure they are not related in any way (Amritdharies are a small community), then all should be happy!!!
