  1. Though all opinions given above are respectable, but I would suggest the remedy given by our Guru Sahibans in the Bani. Anger or krodh and sex or kaam, are just two of the 5 deadly vikars mentioned above, the remaining three are, lobh, moh and ahankaar. Suppose we have some dirt(krodh) on our clothes, so that dirt can never be washed away with other dirt(sex or kaam), it has to be washed by soap, and here it is where we have to use that soap mentioned by our Gurus. They say: Sarab rog ka aukhad ka Naam. The 5 vikaars are mental diseases on all of us, on some, some less, on others others more, but in any case, nobody is free from their effects. What to say about ourselves, when even gods, godesses, rishis, munis, have fallen prey to their traps, nobody is free from them, as long as we are in the regions of Braham. It is only when we cross that region, and reach Parbraham, then only we are free, and out of their reach. And so, to overcome these deadly diseases, we must drink the medicine of Naam, and drinking medicine of Naam, means to do the sadhna, the bhakti of Naam Simran. Then only we shall overcome these enenmies once and forever, cross and reach Parbraham, not otherwise. And in our past history we have ample examples: Ravan, inspite of being such a big devotee of Shiva, and inspite of acquiring so many powers, and because of not devoting himself to Naam for whatever reason maybe, he was full of krodh, ahankaar, kaam, lobh and moh... Because of his lust, he stealed somebody´s wife; because of his pride, he wanted to conquer all the three worlds, because of his lobh, he wanted more and more everything, and becasue of his anger, he fought foolishly with Ram... And so what was the consequence of all this, he died like a dog.... So our merciful Guru Sahibans, having pity on us weak humans, have given us the easiest and simplest method, without having to torture ourselves, to the extent that if we follow implicitly their instructions as per devotion, we shall merge in Wahiguru Akal Purukh, by first becoming pure and paviter.... This is their guarantee, and as we all know, they are the very embodiment of Akal Purukh. Whatever they utter, is the uttreance of Wahiguru, it is the Hukum of wahiguru. It is our fault totally, we have the best taechers, our Guru Sahibans; the best dharam: sikhee...and stiil if we are suffering from these diseases, it is because of our "manmat" by not following Gurmat at all... then too we proudly call ourselves sikhs, shame on us. Sikh is he/she, who implicity follows the wisdom of Gurmat. And Gurmat, relies ony on Naam as the only objective. Sikh means student, means disciple, but if we do not follow the discipline, the wisdom of Gurmat... How do we dare call ourselves sikhs? Sikhee is not politics, nor rituals, neither rules or regulations .... Sikhee is following Gurmat exclusively as per Bani, all else is surplus, is paraphernalia....is maya, is koor .... Because sooner or later evrything shal pass away or decay, except the one Truth, Nam or Shabad, so if we attach ourselves with that Naam, we shall also become free, eternal and perfect, with Him, just as He is. Sat Sree Akal.
  2. It is good that you have brought out this question. First of all, what is Ardaas? Is it not a prayer? If yes, then the second point is, to whom is one praying? The answer naturally is, to Him, Wahiguru Akal Purukh. Then, is He only to be found in the Gurdawaras, temples or churches? Or is it only there where He listens our prayers? If He is sarvavyapak, means omnipresent, moreover within each one of us, then what for we do Ardaas there? The point is, the natural practice of one´s intimacy(Ardaas) with Him, has been converted into a ritual.....so it has lost it´s beauty and charm. We go to the gurdwaras, or temples, because we go to listen His Glory, from some mahapurukh or even a fluent speaker, who can transmit us the message of His inmense greatness, which reaches our hearts and minds, and fills them with love and devotion for His Lotus Feet. We may read the bani or listen the kathas, all they say is, Wahiguru is with you and within you, all you have to do is turn your attention from outside and turn it within, with His Simran, that is it all.... Like we go to school to learn, but it is at home where we do the homework and grow, so is in spirituality. Outside nobobody has found Him, and never ever shall anyone will...it is within our human body(Nar Narayanee deh) where He resides, and there where we have to contact Him, and offfer Him our prayers, love and devotion, through the simple and easy practice, but highest at the same time, His Simran, which will not only draw us near to Him, but in the end, will allow us to merge in Him. He is the Highest Spiritual Being, while being everywhere, is reachable in the spiritual realms. And for us to reach and enter those spiritual realms, it is only by His Simran, which can be possible. That is why in the Bani, it says, among all the devotions and faiths(religions), His Simran is the highest, not because of anything just like that, but because it is the only method by which our so wished desire of being one with Him, can be possible. So the next time, let us ask ourselves, am I doing the right way of offering Him my devotion and love, or even an Ardaas? Let us just start truly following the Bani, which we so much profess our respect and faith; nobody outside and at no place outside will take us to Him, but only by His Amrit Bani, which is within all of us at all times. His Bani, is as said above, is within us and for all of us. He is like the radio waves, which reach any radio connected to the electric power and tuned in rightly. Now we are tuned with the outer and exterior world, but we have to tune our minds(Nam Simran) with the spiritual waves(Nam)which come from Him, and let us hear His Anhad Shabad, His Amritee Bani, which fills our being with Hs love, and this is all we want from our heavenly Father wahiguru Akal Purukh, isn´t it so? Sat Sree Akal.
  3. Our problem is, that we tend to look for love outside. Outside, in others, what we will only get, is either being attracted to others, or others get attracted at you at most, and this type of attraction is as good as kaam, though it maybe disguised and seen as love, but at the bottom is lust also. Then karmas also play an important role in one´s life. Do not rush ever for anything. If something is meant for you, nobody can snatch it away from you. If your interaction is with some girl, she will definetely be drawn towards you. This is not like going to the supermarket and one sees others buying bread, you can do so ...These matters do not work in such ways..... Just by seeing what others do, or have .... And if you are not destined to get something, no matter how hard may one try, you will definetely not get it. One gets definetely, only whta is written in your destiny, not one inch less or more, even the number of morsels you will have, or the number of breaths you will take, even those are counted. In the Bible, they mention that even the hair on one´s body is numbered. According to the teachings of sikhee, one only gets what is written for you, then why to worry? or worry for what? Each person has his/her particular time for reaping one´s destiny. So, If there is anything which you can try, and worry for, that is only to have pure and sincere love for the Lotus Feet of Wahiguru...this the more you put your efforts in, the more you become nearer to Him, who is the fountain of infinite love, infinite bliss.....just imagine His Glory ....He is wonderful, He is beautiful, He is loveable(worthy of one´s love) as none ... Once you start dying in His Love, then all other so called worldy loves(lust) will hold no attraction any more for you....which will fill your heart with His Love, and then you will not care for anyone or anything, only Him, and believe it, it is really the only thing worthy in this whole creation, for when nobody will be with you sooner or later, He will always be with you, whether in this world or in the next one, so let us try to strengthen our ties with Him, by loving Him above anyone and anything. Sat Sree Akal.
  4. 1) The reality you mention which is not going to remain, is an illusion, is a dream, that temporal changeable so called reality, in fact is no reality at all... So to start with, first of all, it is our misconception of taking the perishable as reality, is the cause of our being lost .... The remedy for this, is to arise above this illusory creation and search that one permanent Reality, which is none other than Wahiguru Akal Purukh. Your soul is your reality, it is our birthright as humans to go after our this real objective, so that we too get out of the perishable creation and end our endless comings and goings in this creation. Our attention on the perishable, or our ignorance of that unique reality, is the cause of our wanderings as said before .... Hold on to His Light, and reach your true Home 2) then the question about remebering God .... it is indeed a blessing on us, not a burden. In the sense, that one goes where one´s mind and heart is. So, by remembering Him, meditating on Him, you are not doing Him any favour....As He does not need all this...Just as it is unecessary to lit a candle in Sunlight.....but yes, you can profit yourself by taking the advantage of that light and do your real work, which is, bhajan bandagee ...It is we who get inmense benefits, by remembering and loving Him. Cheer up man, you are currently very low...remember, however life maybe with you, but He is always there to guide you, if you just turn your face towards Him...and He is right within you at all times, nowhere outside ...and according to the Gurmat, His Simran is the real turninig one´s face towards Him, and being in His presence. 3) Why did God create us? Such a Supreme being, who has created all the infinite universes as well , do you think that He can make any mistakes? Have we stopped to think ever, the power and the knowlege He has to do all that? The thing is we are petty, our angle of vision is limited and poor, so we judge the Perfect One, within the limits of our agaynta and moorakhta ... Come on man, He is our very own true Father ...our essence is as same as He is. Just as a ray of Sun is related to the Sun, in a similar way our souls have emerged from Him, to merge in Him only ... The current state of most of us, is as, we are in a dark well, and we are shouting why are we here, who has thrown me here? First of all, let us get out of it...we will have ample time to know how we reached there, but not that by entertaing those petty thoughts, we waste our time and we die there, without giving the chance to be pulled out on the surface and know everything by ourselves...and our surroundings, even about our origin...so cheer up man, life is too short to be wasted in the darkness ...come out in the Light and know thyself ... You are free to think as you want, I will only suggest you to keep company of positive people as soon as possible, as your self estimation now is very low, and pray to Him sincerely from your heart to show you the way to Him... May God bless you. Sat Sree Akal.
  5. Dear Palarmux, we must never forget, that whatever good or bad phases one goes through, it is nothing, but one´s own karmas. There is nothing absolutely possible without karmas...either we are sowing a new seed, or either we are reaping a past seed, but anyhow, everything is karma. Secondly, about your question of what is the meaning of your present life? Well, your life´s meaning is a very simple, clear and objective one, like the rest of us all human beings, and that is, to get the most of this blessing from the personal gift from Wahiguru to us, which is having born as humans, as per to realize Him. This human body is called the temple of the living God, where He resides. This human body is got after the fruits of countless good karmas in several lives .... So just arise above the level of mind, which is the cause of all our misery and tension in any sphere in life. This mind will have its ego hurt, and make us feel regretful, full of grudges, it will keep us sad and resentful, these are all its tricks, to keep one entangled in this world. But as said in some other post, we(souls) too are not less, we are of the very essence of Wahiguru Akal Purukh. We just need to realize this truth, to overcome all the mischefs of the mind. Once we understand, who we are, then nothing can prevent us, from moving firmly towards our sole goal, which is none other than Akal Purkh himself. Religions as such, are all responsible from keeping us away from Wahiguru. Because the Bani says only one thing, and in all religions we have rituals, ceremonies, dogmas, an endless list of outer activities, which take us farther from Wahiguru. Religion, is a latin word, which means, the path which takes us to our origin and merges our individual consciousness(soul), in the infinite ocean of Cosciousness, which is the supreme being Wahiguru. And in this sense, the Bani very cleary says: awar kaaj tere kitteh na kaam, mil Sadh Sangat, bhaj kewal Nam. Jin Har japeeya, se Har hoeeya. The Bani says, whosoever ever repeats His Name in meditation, merges in Him, becoming Him. The Bani does not say, you have to belong to this or that religion, you have to be from a particular nationality or community, rich or poor, young or old, male or female....nothing of these man made limitations upon himself... Nooo, Wahiguru is not like that, His path, His mat or Gurmat, is universal for the whole of humanity, for any soul willing to go back to Him. Just as, if the ocean has no nationality nor creed, what nationality or creed is going to have a simple drop of that ocean? In a similar way, if Wahiguru has no nationality, nor class, no creed, what nationality, which creed, colour or class is going to be of the soul? Naturally, none. All outer man made limitations, are layers of ignorance upon himself .... Other thing is, one may belong to a particular caste, land, community, because of one´s interaction of karmas in that location, but that does not means, we have lost our spiritual divine essence of Wahiguru.... Due to maya, we are not aware of it; but in reality, we are spiritual beings, going through human experience. There maybe many different sizes, shapes and colours of bulbs lit in each one´s house(dharam, mazab, karam khand...), but the light which all get, is from the one Sun, no matter where one is from, but that one Sun, is the Light of all lights.... We tend to dispute and fight for our petty bulbs, but if we just looked up in the sky(within ourselves), we all shall see the only one Sun giving its light in all directions and corners. In the same way, in outer ways, paths, Wahiguru is not to be found, thus there is darkness, or agyanta....but if we all turned our attention within ourselves, we shall see that there is only one Sun giving its light, no matter from where one is. If we could only do this, all our disputes and fights shall come to an end, because then we shall see by ourselves, that nobody´s god is superior or inferior, there is only one God giving its light to the whole creation. So as long as our search is outside, there shall be hatred, wars, and disputes. But once we change the direction of our search within ourselves accordingly to Gurmat, then, there is only one religion, only one God. So we should be a bit intelligent and abide by Gurmat, for our own benefit and our own evolution, towards our goal of God realization, namely Wahiguru Akal Purukh. One has not to give up one´s culture, traditions, customs, neither the religion in which one is born, rather live in those conditions with calmness, dignity and respect for all our fellow beings, because our objective is not outside there, but within our own temple, where He has kept Himself for each one of us. So in that way, no matter what the world says, they may slander you, due to your colour of skin, or your beliefs....but then we also know, that this will not make any diffrence now, because the objective of my search, is out of the reach of such people, and this can not alter anything from our aim, to find Him and merge in Him. The thing is, one has to be clear in one´s undertanding, then nothing can shake us. Because now I know myself, and I know the reality of the world and its people. What really counts is one´s belief, not what the majority believe. Because the day, I have to go from this world, no friends, no relatives, no culture, no customs, no politics shall go with me.... I shall be all alone, with my own karmas, my own faith, my own wealth of bhakti(Nam Simran) of Wahiguru, which I gathered during my lifetime on earth. This all is known and understood through Gurmat only, so the majesty, the infinte grace showered on us by our Guru Sahibans, Bhagats, Gurmukh janas, through the Bani, is most valued, if we follow it and work upon it, to acheive our goal, which otherwise, we may do what we want, but it is impossible. The key to sucess, is to remember Him at all times, then even bad times shall turn into good ones. But the condition for it, is to love Him and remember Him , through His Simran, at all times ....then there is nothing bad, but only His Grace, His Mauj.... The bani beautifully says: Je sukh de ta tujhe aradhi Dukh bhi tujhe dhiayi Je bhukh de ta it hì raja Dukh vich sukh Manayi This means, no matter what may happen, or in which ever conditions I may be, which are all due to my very own karmas, but, I shall never ever forget You, even for an instant. But we also know, Wahiguru is Nirankar, so how can one hold on to Him, in order to get that protection, love and bliss ? Here, Gurmat gives us the solution to it. Gurmat teaches us, to hold on the subtle form of Wahiguru, or His Shabad swaroop, through Nam Simran, otherwise there is no other way .... Gurmat is not path made by any man...it is the eternal path, designed by Akal Purukh Himself, made it known to us, through His Gurmukhs.... that is why it is the most highest Path, and the one which leads us sucesslfully towards our goal, Wahiguru Akal Purukh. And this Path did not start some centuries ago, but since He created the creation, or do we think, that the souls in in the other times or yugas, had no right to go back to Him? God can not be as unjust as we tend to be. He is an ocean of mercy and love at all times. If God is one, there can be only one path leading to Him, and this is not something private for a limited number of people of a particular place or land....but for all the beings, within them, irrespective of class, community, gender, or political inclination .... The path of Wahiguru is of purity, of faith, of devotion and love for His Lotus Feet, rest all can be well said, that all is maya or koor. Dear Palarmux, trust Him and love Him, He will not leave you, He will fill you with His blessings. Sat Sree Akal.
  6. Giving births to great kings or warriors, is not a big thing. This does not make a woman great. Great men or great women are great, due to thier own karmas , not because they got their birth from a particular mother, and then also, it is the interaction of karmas between them, for which she beared and gave birth to certain children...nothing happens just like that. Nature has endowed women this particular and exceptional task. Men are animals, if they do not know how to treat and respect women. On the other side, women also should contribute for the betterment of this abnormal situation, by not letting anyone look at her as piece of flesh, starting from very herself ....the aim of almost any woman, is just to look pretty from head to toes, and for this she will go to any extent, shopping, hairdressing, tailoring, perfumes, complements, surgery, shoes, dressing, and an endless list .... Nature is vey bad in this sense, the link between a male and female, is kaam. This kaam is necessary for a certain chemistry between the both, but when it exceeds on any side, or both the sides, it creates suffering and is an open invitation to pain. Nature has made us as we are, and we can not totally change ourselves but we have to use our senses, and develope our plus points, and at the same time, we have to file our minus points, in order to live peacefully and in harmony among both the genders. It is just out of my reach to understand, that since million of years, we are only two genders, and still we do not understand fully each other ...both are responsible. Anyhow, howsoever women may be, but in the end we men, we are mostly brutes and at the fault. And we men being such brutes, I will suggest to women, be aware of this our nature, and do not push us with your words or deeds, to make us more violent. Like for example an apple, there is a eater who wants to eat it, and the apple wants someone to eat it .... :wub22: And in the end, it is better to not to have the desire to eat anything, and this meass not to fast or suppress one self, but to reach a certain level, where you will not feel its necesity, and that is only by reaching Wahiguru. No gender makes anyone great, the only thing which makes anyone great, irrespective of class, age, gender, nationality, community... it is only pure love and devotion at the Lotus Feet of Wahiguru. So it is now up to us, to get rid of our false and petty limited identities as males or females, and get above it, to become a pure and a shinning soul with bhakti, crossing the chances of all the 4 yugas, and reach Sach Khand, and merging our souls in Him, this is what is going to make any living being, a great soul. :khalsa:
  7. Phen jee, it is you who have to reach Wahiguru by doing your own simran.... the ipod can never reach there, even if goes on and on, non stop everyday for x, y or z hours ... :biggrin2: Listening it on Cd, cassette or any audio video electronic device is one thing, doing it within you, with your mind focused on it, it the real thing, which will bring you, purity, peace, bliss, and love for the Lotus Feet of Wahiguru. May God bless you.
  8. Dear bdemon, regarding your question above in your latest post of today at 10:01 AM, if you pay attention and re-read the reply of brother Sat, you will find the reply for your question in his first line, in the words of Sachay Patshah Guru Arjun Dev Maharaj, where He says : chant the Lord´s Name with your tongue and listen it with your ears. Means, you may start the jaap with the mouth with a low voice, and listen to its pronounciation with attention. When you progess a little bit with this practice, you may shift to do it within your mind. But the secret to success is , to listen carefully you yourself your own jap. Like a liittle boy given a toy, he holds it with both of his tiny hands, and turns it up and down, or in circle, watching it with full attention, how the shape, size and colours are..... So has one to do in the Simran, like a small child, go through the sound of each syllable pronounced by you, and taste its savour. Some mahapurukh has said, Simran should be done with such care love and attention, like just as one takes each diamond and puts it into the jewel box.. And at the time of Simran take away any thinking of gurus or anybody else...as this very thinking starts with one single thought, this leads to another , and so on ..... and when you become aware, you have already gone far in the world of thoughts..... The purpose of Simran, is to become thoughtless. There should be only one thought: Wahiguru, Wahiguru Wahiguru.....and only Wahiguru. And when this is done willingly, in due time, you will find yourself automatically within your inner being, where the spiritual journey starts towards our goal Wahiguru, such is the power of Simran. Sat Sree Akal
  9. For the topics of dinosaurs and neanderthals, I shall leave it for the historians to answer it better..... And for your third question, if sikhs believe in evolution? I would say, yes naturally do we believe in it. There is no other way or logic. But the evolution we believe in, and is evident, is about ruhaniyat or spiritualilty. Evolution means progress. But progress in which field? And from where to where? As said above, the progress is reffered to Parmarath. And it is from this mayavee creation(And, Pind) where we are binded with heavy chains, towards our home, towards our objective Parbraham (Sach Khand) Wahiguru, who is the embodiment of pure bliss, knowledge and consciousness.. So in that way, as long as we have not merged our surtees in Him, there is always a desirable scope for evoution, which is fully achieved only, when the highest point is reached, from this our level, to His level. Satnam Satnam Satnam Jee. Dhan dhan Satguru, Waheguru Jee
  10. Ok then you answer him , the way you know. If he has not said anything, why are you bothered? It is his question and my answer was for him, not for you. So please, do answer him freely, there are no such limitations on anybody. It seems only you know the truth here, and have the answer for everything.... from now on I think Sangat should ask to you first . When are you going to stop with your poking, where nobody asks you anything? It is bad manners. If you want to be on this forum, be honest and straightforward, without all of your nonsense of the past, everybody now knows all your bad mannerisms...not that you are not capable of doing good, but you just don´t want. So be careful this time with your behaviour. Good luck man.
  11. bdemon Veer Jee, Naam japna is not only, not a waste, but a must, for whosoever wants to get freed from the cycle of births and deaths, and merge in Wahiguru. As Sachay Patshah Arjun Dev Maharaj says in Sukhmani Sahib: ਸਿਮਰਉ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਉ Simaro Simar Simar Sukh Paavo सिमरउ सिमरि सिमरि सुखु पावउ Meditate, meditate, meditate in remembrance of Him, and find peace. He repeats the word Simran thrice, to show us the importance of this holy practice, and as the only method of devotion to be done by us. Remembering God, one does not have to enter into the womb again. Devotions are of many types, but this one of Naam japna is the highest: ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ Prabh Kaa Simaran Sabh Thae Oochaa प्रभ का सिमरनु सभ ते ऊचा Some may be surprised and say, I prefer to do jap, tap, pujas or bathing in sacred waters, but Guru Sahiban, clears our fears and ignorance in His following words: ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਤਤੁ ਬੁਧਿ Prabh Kai Simaran Giaan Dhhiaan Thath Budhh प्रभ कै सिमरनि गिआनु धिआनु ततु बुधि In the remembrance of God are knowledge, meditation and the essence of wisdom. In the remembrance of God are chanting, intense meditation and devotional worship. Prabh Ka Simran dargeh manee The Lords Simran, is accepted in His Court So you see, Dhan Guru Arjun Dev Maharaj, clearly states, that His Simran is accepted in His court. Other practices we do not know, we have no guarantee of their worth, and surely maybe a waste, but this Naam japna, is uttered and written down by Himself, that it will definetely take us to His abode. Then, Nam is a Conscious power, we can say it is His power, by which Wahiguru created the whole creation, and permeates through it in all and everything. A ray of that power in the living creatures at all levels, is the soul or surtee. There is no being as such, which is deprived of its presence. And the role or objective of Naam japna, is to reveal that Nam or Shabad within us, which is the reality of Wahiguru, Himself, by washing the filth of our minds, and the filth of karmas on our souls .... And this priceless gift of Naam japna, is a blessing, bestowed by Wahiguru Himself on all human beings, so that they may free themselves from the cycle of births and deaths, once and forever, thus merge in Him forever also... Such is the mahanta of Naam japna...we may read gain and agian the Sukhmani Sahib, to grasp as much as possible the beauty and true value of the sacred parctice Naam japna in our lives. Sat Sree Akal
  12. Thanks Paa Jee for correcting. Their was a mistake in my listenening this word in the kirtan sung by a keertanee. You are right.
  13. Hats off to SING4PEACE, for expressing so well his viewpoints, to which I very much agree. The thing is, as long as our attention is outside in the world, with all that it implies, rituals, ceremonies, moortee pujas, jap, tap, paaths, which are outer forms of worship, and as such, we have created our own limitations. We profess, that our dharam is the highest, and that is verily true, and there is no doubt in it. But to get the maximmum out of it, is only possible when we follow Gurmat implicitly, which as said many a times, it is not difficult at all ...we only need to do what our Guru Sahibans have told us in their Bani. They say: Ekas bin, sabh Dhhandhh hae. Means, without the only One(Wahiguru) everything else is useless, is a sheer waste. Now this only one Wahiguru, how and where is He to be found? The Bani tells us, that this human body is the temple, where within, He is to be found. In outer worships, we usually need lamps, incense, flowers, offerings of food and clothes, etc and etc, depending on each different dharam or mazab.... But to meet our beloved Wahiguru, we need nothing as such complements. We need only to decorate ourselves with the garments of humility, with the lamp of faith, and the offerings of love. These are the utensils for our devotion. But now we need a vehicle also, to go from our house, to His house( within our body,Sach Khand); and that vehicle is Nam Simran, according also to our Guru Sahibans. So we can see, that by His utter Grace, He has kept everything at our disposition, for each one of us in equal quantity and measure, irrespective of our clour, community, class, nationality, land or dharam. Thus He is the true Daatar. But alas, we have become blind to Gurmat, and started exercising our very own maanmat, so naturally we are driven away from our goal. Let each one of us read carefully with attention each and every ang of the Bani, and sincerely ask ourselves, without turning our faces towards other sides, as we may not like to see what we are doing, is it Gurmat fully what we are following? Even if by reading we may not understand many passages, we may halt and ask oureslves and wait, the answer will come out sooner or later. And even for not understanding its depth, we should not overlook the Bani, because many a times, that, that what we do not understand, has the clues to reform our maanmat up to an extent. Everything will gradually become clearer to us. The rest all depends on His mauj. But to start with, we have to take concious steps forward towards Him, then He will definetely bless us with the right envoirements, for our moral and spiritual growth. He is far more eager to give the wealth of His inmense blessings, than we are ready or capable to hold that Grace, with our tiny hands full of sand and stones(ignorance) May Wahiguru bless all. Sat Sree Akal.
  14. Dear bdemon, Nam Simran is done for the purpose of removing one´s filth of karmas, thus to get purified. At the same time, it is done as a prerequisite to meet our beloved Wahiguru. Nam Simran is a means, to meet our beloved Wahiguru. Who has not been in love? So while doing Nam Simran, our attitude should be that of a lover, who is anxious and desesperate to meet the beloved, and when he goes to meet his beloved, there are no other thoughts except those of the beloved, means he has his beloved´s picture in mind at all times, until he goes and gets her beautiful face, and when he sees her, his heart overflows with his love for her... In a similar way, while doing Nam Simran, we must entertain no other thoughts than those of our Pyara Preetam Wahiguru Akal Purukh. We must be so desperate to meet Him, that our condition is like a fish out of water .... At least the fish is lucky, after a few minutes out of water it gives up its last breaths, and we shameful beings, we have been since yugas away from Wahiguru, and still we are alive and entangled with "maya and sin", moreover we have forgotten Him, and have devloped attachment for His creation... But anyhow, our Sachay Patshah, is so gracious, that He has given us His Simran, as a rope to pull Him towards us, whenever we want Nam Simran, is the highest form of devotion, the highest religion, because by perfecting this sadhna or jugtee, we, as said above, we can merge in Him. In summary,Nam Simran should be done with attention, with care, with faith, with humility, with utmost love , as it is the only tool we have, to become nearer ever to our beloved Wahiguru Akal Purukh ..... Wahiguru has blessed us with this tool, now it is up to us, how wisely we use it, and free ourselves forever from this creation, by merging our surtees(souls) in Him. Jin Har japeeya se Har hoeeya. Sat Sree Akal.
  15. Frankly speaking, I think the equation of females having more knowledge than males is not correct, otherwise you being a female, at least that much, that you would not have gone wrong with your presumption.... :biggrin2: Any how jokes apart, gender has nothing to do with knowledge .....Gurmat is a path of humility, of bhakti, of love to one Wahiguru, and this anyone can tread it , irrespective of war genders :waheguru:
  16. Paa Jee, Ardas is a personal and private conversation between a sikh(soul) and Wahiguru Akal Purukh. This conversation can be, a model type prayers in any spiritual scirptures, or it can be a natural flow of one´s own words coming from the depth of one´s heart. Do not worry, if at sometimes words fail you, do to your limitations in any particular language. God is not limited like we humans may be in languages. There is saying, He listens to the cry of an ant even before the trunk sound made by an elephant .... He listens to your feelings of love for Him, He knows what you are going to say, even before those thoughts arise in your mind...so then why limit Him with our ignorance... This type of thinking is all brahamvadi, this is not sikhee. One must remember, one´s destiny is already tailor cut made before we are born ...so no amount of asking or not asking will affect the course of one´s life... We should be very careful for asking anything...because our unsatisfied desires, shall be the cause for our future continuos imprisonment in this creation. If there is at all anything to ask, from Wahiguru; of course there are but a very few things to be asked for: 1) Wahiguru, give me the power and wisdom to live by Your will, Your Mauj, Your bhaana ... 2) Wahiguru, let me not forget You in any conditions, do not let be so shameful that never ever may I deny You 3) Ask only for Wahiguru, from Wahiguru. He can bless us with the best and the highest, just as great as He is, so why to ask for less(Jevad Aap, te vad Teree Daat). And only by getting Him, means, redemption and freedom from the cycle of births and deaths, and union with Him, by merging our soul consciousness in Him. In Gurmat we come to learn that if ever we have to ask Him anything, it can be as follows: ਐਸੀ ਮਾਂਗੁ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਤੇ Aisee Mang Gobidh Thae ऐसी मांगु गोबिद ते Beg for such blessings from the Lord of the Universe: ਟਹਲ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾਂ ਜਪਿ ਪਰਮ ਗਤੇ Ttehal Santhan Kee Sang Sadhhoo Ka Har Naman Jap Param Gathae टहल संतन की संगु साधू का हरि नामां जपि परम गते To work for the Saints( work of the Saints, means their instructions, which is Nam Simran), and the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. Chanting the Name of the Lord, the supreme status is obtained. This is what, in Raag Kaanrhaa Dhan Dhan Satguru Arjan Dev Maharaj is telling us to ask only for from the Supreme Lord Wahiguru. This is true dharma, this is true sikhee. Sat Sree Akal.
  17. Dear Pen jee Username Taken, first of all, I am Paa jee . o.k? :lol2: Then, going to your question, Wahiguru is above everything, He is the Kartar, He is above His creation. The yugas work under His Hukum, just as anything else in the creation. So, yugas can not effect Wahiguru´s choice to destroy or create anything. But anyhow, I would say , He Himself is not running His creation below Sach Khand. Below Parbraham, He has given the reins of the control of that creation, just as to say, to certain rays of power, energies, who have emerged from Him, and work as caretakers, under his Hukum. Many people take them as the ultimate reality and worship them, out of ignorance... Otherwise if everybody believed in Gurmat and practiced it, this creation would come to an end in due time, and this is not the purpose of Wahiguru, at least yet. Of course, nothing goes against His will, or hukum....but He is far more concerned with more important tasks to do, than to run or look after inert and perishable creation. The King is king, his kingdom is looked after judges, police, lawyers, soldiers, etc....Everybody carry his orders efficiently, but he himself does not go and catch the thieves or judge them and punish them.... In a similar way, our Sachaay Patshah Wahiguru Akal Purukh, is more worried for us, His souls, His children, lost and trapped in the mayavee to go back to Him.... And for that, in spite of all the obstacles in our way, like maya, 5 vices, karmas, kaal, ignorance, etc and etc ......He sends His Gurmukhs, his Bhagats time after time, to awaken us from our deep sleep, so that we may start walking towards Him. As long as they are here, we get straighten to an extent. Once they leave this plane, again we fall into durmat, maanmat ...and continue with our outer serach in lifeless objects and places, we forget the essence of Gurmat, which is Nam or Shabad, and we get entangled into politics, rituals, pilgrimages, dogmas, symbolisms, and then give the name of my religion, my god, etc... and we get imprisoned by our own ignorance, and so the consequence is that, instead of moving Wahiguru, we insure more and more our staying in the endless wheel of eighty four... Gurmat is not difficult at all, it is the most simple and safe path for all to attain Him. He makes things simple for us, He knows we are weak and moorakhs, that is why our Guru Sahibans, have left the path(Bani) as simple as possible for us, to walk and reach Him. They speak in our simple human terms, so that we may listen and follow what Wahiguru wants to tell us, so that we may achieve liberation from the mayavee creation, cross Braham and merge in Him, through Shabad or Nam, or call it may, Amrit Bani, it is the same thing. Raag Gauri Guru Arjan Dev Naam Sunae Naam Sangrehai Naamae Liv Laavo I listen to the Naam, I gather in the Naam; and I am lovingly attuned to the Naam. *There are 3 stages in Nam Bhakti: repeating it, listening to it and , merging in it. In the above few words of Dhan Guru Saachay Badshah Arjun Dev Jee, He tells us the reality of the whole of the creation. He says, all else is false, except Nam, which is the only Truth, to which I have attached my self, through its Simran, and the result of this is, that we get freedom from all our bonds which retain us here, and not only that, but we merge in Nam, which is His real swaroop, and become one with it. Sat Sree Akal.
  18. Dear TjKaur, for your query on Treta and Dwapur yugas, surely out there are many scholars who can give us ample information on this topic, but in the Bani of Raag Aasaa, our beloved Dhan Dhan Satguru Ram Das Maharaj, gives us precise description of those 2 yugas mentioned by you. So let us read His paviter Bani and dispell the darkness of our agyanta: ਤੇਤਾ ਜੁਗੁ ਆਇਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਤੁ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ਜੀਉ Thaethaa Jug Aaeiaa Anthar Jor Paaeiaa Jath Sanjam Karam Kamaae Jeeo तेता जुगु आइआ अंतरि जोरु पाइआ जतु संजम करम कमाइ जीउ When the Silver Age of Trayta Yuga came; men's minds were ruled by power, and they practiced celibacy and self-discipline. The fourth foot of religion dropped off, and three remained. Their hearts and minds were inflamed with anger. * Here, when He says that one foot of the four dropped, means that in Treta Yuga, 25 % of goodness dissappeared, of the 99.99 % in Sat Yuga ਮਨਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਸਲੋਧੁ ਨਿਰਪ ਧਾਵਹਿ ਲੜਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ Man Hiradhai Krodhh Mehaa Bisalodhh Nirap Dhhaavehi Larr Dhukh Paaeiaa मनि हिरदै क्रोधु महा बिसलोधु निरप धावहि लड़ि दुखु पाइआ Their hearts and minds were filled with the horribly poisonous essence of anger. The kings fought their wars and obtained only pain. Their minds were afflicted with the illness of egotism, and their self-conceit and arrogance increased. But then the Lord, Har, Har, shows His Mercy, and reveals us that one eradicates the poison of the 5 vices from within, by the Guru's Teachings and the Lord's Name. Also in this Silver Age of Trayta Yuga; men's minds were ruled by power, and they practiced celibacy and self-discipline. Then Brass Age of Dwaapar Yuga came, and people wandered in doubt. The Lord created the Gopis and Krishna. The penitents practiced penance, they offered sacred feasts and charity, and performed many rituals and religious rites. They performed many rituals and religious rites; two legs of religion dropped away, and only two legs remained. *Here again He is telling us, that in this Dwapur Yuga, only 50% of goodnes or virtue remained, in comaprison with Satyuga, so we can see that, as the creation advances from Satyuga to Kal Yuga, the virtue is lessened more and more .. So many heroes waged great wars; in their egos they were ruined, and they ruined others as well. The Lord, Compassionate to the poor, led them to meet the Holy Guru. Meeting the True Guru, their filth is washed away. The Brass Age of Dwaapar Yuga came, and the people wandered in doubt. The Lord created the Gopis and Krishna * But also in this Dwapur yuga as seen in the above lines, the method of getting cleansed of one´s filth or sins, is the same as in all the ages, through Gurmat alone. And Gurmat tells us only one thing: Ekas Bin, sabh gand hae. Without the one Nam or Shabad, everything else is as good as waste P.S: if you are interested also in the remaining 2 yugas: Satyuga and Kal Yuga, you may read about all the four of them, in the angs 444 /445. Raag Asa Guru Ram Das Sat Sree Akal Jee.
  19. In the endless adventure of existence, God and man are comrades. God is our one unfailing companion. He will never leave us. We may try to run away from him. But He will continue to follow us as our own shadow. There is a meaning of mercy in everything that happens to us. For God is All-love. He is All-wisdom. He is too loving to punish, too wise to make a mistake. Whatever happens in the Divine Providence happens for our own good.
  20. Prayer is a spontaneous conversation between a soul and the Lord. It is good to pray, it is a sign of humility before the Almighty Lord Wahiguru, this fills the heart, with gareebee, meekness. Of course the Lord is all powerfull, He can change a mustard seed into a mountain and viceversa, but, Gurmat shows us, and tells us that, we should not take Wahiguru as the genie of Aladino´s lamp. For example In hinduism, gods, devis, devtas do these type of things, to favour thier devotees, by being pleased with their devotion. Wahiguru, is a state of highest level of consciousness and bliss. Gurmat is not only the written teachings of bhagats, and our Guru Sahibans, but is a practical way of reuniting our souls, with our origin, call it Nam, Shabad, or Wahiguru Akal Purukh. Who is the infinite fountain of truth. Through our Guru Sahibans, we know about His majesty, His Beant Wadeeayee, and we also know, that His creation works under the laws created by Him. Which is also known as His Mauj, His Hukum. We also know, He is very straightforward, He is not a crook like us, that every here and then, He keeps changing His very laws established by Him, just to suit some by favour. He is perfect, He makes no mistakes. When we say, that by the devotion of a single person, his family members, companions, ancestors or the whole world can be saved ... let us be objective, does it not sound more, that these words refer to someone in particular like Gurmukhs, Guru Sahibans or Bhagats? Or do we think that any paapee donkeys like us, can do this noble task? Because to save someone, first of all, the saver should be on the safe side, and safe side means, being one with Wahiguru . And so let us ask ourselves, are anyone of us, one with Wahiguru? Have we merged our consciousness in Wahiguru? If, we ourselves do not know to swim, how can someone take others by mere words? First of all, we have to board on that vehicle of Nam, and then, invite others to get in. But as every process has rules, inviting others to get in the jahaaz of Nam, means to get in through the ladder of Nam Simran....there is no other way to board in. Then too, if we think, by someone´s prayers and devotion, others will get salvation, because God hears those prayers ... let us believe it to be true, but that does not mean it is instant...yes, God may grant them salvation, but in the due time, by His grace they may get in future births better enovoirements for spiritual abhyaas, to achieve that purity, so that our merging in Him is possible, and we should never forget that Nam Simran, is a must for each and every soul, for its emancipation.... Once one reaches His level while being here, one does not do anything which may go against His will, one stays always in His mauj... Look at Christ, He was one with God, but when cruicified, though He had all powers, He said let thy will be done. The same with Sachaay Patshah Guru Arjun Dev Maharaj, when He was tortured, He said tera bhaana meetha laageh, and we know He was also all powerfull Prithi Chand, was the son of one Guru Sahiban, and the brother of another Guru Sahiban, but inspite of living with them and having their constant darshan, his evilness did not diminish... So from the above example we have to understand, that let us forget forget emancipation which is a big word, but even the changing of durmat to Gurmat, is not done by force or just like that, or by one´s prayers or devotion ....but by attaching ourselves to that Consciouss power known as Nam or Shabad. Even now Wahiguru is present everywhere, but then why so much pain, why are we separated from Him? We do tell Him, hey Wahiguru I am missing You, please come and give me your Darshan, and let me become one with You....all of us must have said many times this prayer, maybe with different words, but same intentions, but let us be sincere, how much have we changed for better? How much have we lessened our kaam, krodh, lobh , moh or ahaankar? Or in one word our maanmat or durmat. So if even these 5 vices, mind or kaal can not be killed by mere words, what to say about salvation? Salvation is only possible, by becoming one with Him, as the Bani says: Jin Har japeeya, se Har hoeeya. Only Nam is our salvation, Nam is our shore, Nam is our seashore ... In Raag Suhee, Dhan Dhan Guru Dev Maharaj, very clearly tells us something about our salvation: ਮੇਲਹਿ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਰਜਾਇ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਈਐ Maelehi Thujhehi Rajaae Sabadh Kamaaeeai मेलहि तुझहि रजाइ सबदु कमाईऐ You blend with Yourself by Your Will, those who practice the Word of the Shabad. And practice of Shabad, means Nam Simran alone, nothing more nothing less. P.S: Sometimes it may seem that at different places there are contraindications in the Bani, but for that we should see also the global teachings of the Bhagats and Guru Sahibans contained in the Bani, in order to have a correct perspective, to what and where, are our Guru Sahibans drawing our attention. Please forgive me, do not get me wrong, if some may disagree with me, as everybody has the full right to do so, but we must rember also, we are not here to fight nor to throw others down, we are to walk shoulder with shoulder in humilty, in order to be balanced human beings with respect and dignity towards all. Blessings to all from Wahiguru. Sat Sree Akal.
  21. Dear merrym, I am sorry to tell you, but you doing paath or prayes, will benefit only you, and nobody else. Just tell me if someone is hungry, so do you think, your eating food will satisfy that person´s hunger? Someone is in distress, or sick; do you think you having medicine will soothe him or get him any relief? If not so, than how or where is the logic, that praying for someone, will get him some relief? This is somehow "brahamwadi", which has no place in sikhee. The Bani says, aapeh bijeeh, aape khaaey. Nobody can share his/her karmas with anybody. Or do we think we can fool Wahiguru? If it was that easy, then sure there would be less pain in this world. This is not like, one sees and elderly person carrying a heavy bag from the groccery shop, so one goes and gives a helping hand... Moreover, do we think, Wahiguru listens someone´s prayers and makes deaf ears to others? You see, it we who are weak and limited, and we tend to think of Wahiguru, in our own limited and senseless terms... If we think Wahiguru has the power to give, surley He has the power to know also, isn´t it? So then, do we need to ask? The Bani says: kis agaay keejay Ardaas, bin boliyaa sabh kich hae jaanda. Everything that comes or happens in our lives, are our very own karmas. Long before we are born, every single karma is first written in our destiny, then only we are born. And this law of karma , is not made by any politicians nor parliament, which we can escape with bribery, as we corrupted humans usually do here. Even in pain, there is His grace. He is all merciful, if there was no pain or suffering after our shameless karmas, then we would never ever try to walk on the right path... In the time of kauravas, their king Dhritrashtra was blind by birth, but was also a type of yogi. Once in the company of Krishna, he asked him, I have gone with the tap of my yog abhyaas, 999 births back wards, and I can not see any karma of mine, for which I am blind in this birth... Then Krishna, with his power, took him even 5 births still back, and showed him that in that birth, as a small child, he was sitting near a pond or lake, and how he had removed the eyes of a worm with something pointed .... So, one can see, one has no control on how the karmas are gathered to make our destiny...but one thing is sure, the wise Nature knows, how to administrate justice and to balance the karmas .... But according to our Gracefull Guru Sahibans, now in the present human life it is entirely upon us, to divert the course of our destinies, from the land of sorrow and pain in this mayavee creation, and go once and forever to the house of bliss of our True father Wahiguru Akal Purukh, through the simple technique of Nam Simran. This nam Simran, has the power to burn away all our karmas, purify us, and make us worthy to merge in Him, that is His " beant wadeeayee". And as stated above, this has to be done by each one of us, for ourselves...this can not be earned and given into charity to someone... In spiritual realms and everywhere else, thankfully things do not work upon our "maanmat", but by His mauj, His hukum, which is full of His Bakshish, His apaar Daya Meher .... Sat Sree Akal Jee.
  22. Dear_gwacha_, To your first question, the answer is: yes, there is no difference between the Sadhs, the Gurmukhs, the Bhagats, Saints, or call it may our Guru Sahibans. That is why, as Jesus says in the Bible: I and the Father are one, he who hath seen me, hath seen the Father.... No one can go to the Father, except through me. Our Bani also says: Sadh, Prabh, bhed na paaee. Har ka sevak so Har jeha, bhed na jaano, manush deha Har jee baseh, Sadh ke hirday Har jee baseh Sadh kee rasna Sant Sung, anter Prabh deetha To your second question: let us first ask ourselves, what is religion? Religion as I stated in some other post, this word comes from the latin word religare, and means, that which reunites us with our origin. So what is it that, that reunites our souls with Wahiguru? Our Bani very clearly and in a simple way says: Jin Har japiyaa, se Har hoeeyaa. Here the Bani is referring, to the jugtee of Nam Simran, of the abhyaas of Nam Simran, to the meditation of Nam Simran. The Bani is not saying, do so many things, like rituals, rites, ceremonies, pilgrimages, bathing in the so called holy waters, idol worship. Sarab Dhharam Mehi Sraesatt Dhharam Of all religions, the best religion Har Ko Naam Jap Niramal Karam Is to chant the Name of the Lord and maintain pure conduct. Sukhmanee Sahib Guru Arjun Dev In the above lines of Guru Arjun Dev Maharaj, we can see, He says, there is only one true religion, and that is Nam japnaa. The thing is, the true Saints, Sadh janas, Bhagats or our Guru Sahibans, if we read their Bani, they will always point out the Sadhna of Nam Simran as the only remedy for our liberation and union with Wahiguru Akal Purukh. No true Sant ever comes to create any new religion or path, because if Wahiguru is one, and is unchangeable, naturally the path leading to Him, has to be one, that path can not be different people of different religions, or at different times througout the history....the difference can be in the rituals, in the ceremonies, in the dogmas....in one word, all exterior activities, but not within, there where He is to be found and merged in Him. And there where He is, only Nam Simran can take one´s soul. At other place the Bani says: Nanak, Nam jahaaz hae. But jahaz to take us from where, to which place? Naturally from, this physicall plane to that highest spiritual plane(Sach Khand), to which, there is no other way .... do whatever we may. And this path or way, is made by Wahiguru Himself, which no moorakh human being can change. Because human beings are very manipulative, so mean, that they do not try to walk as per the Bani, but twist it to their personal interests.... We humans have made and complicated our lives with rules, rituals and regulations...... Up to and extent we can understand it, as we are social beings, and we are weak, we like to be different so we create nationalities, communities .... so we tend to forget the True teachings of our Guru Sahibans, and add our own maanmat, thus getting away from our goal Wahiguru, without being even slightly conscious about this fact. As we may have heard, there is only One Light(Wahiguru), many lamps(souls) who behold that same Light. The remedy is only one as per Gurmat: Nam Simran, and this we do not do, and do many other things, or tryto find Him in lifeless things outside..... So how can we achieve our goal of realizing Him ever? If He is within us, we have to travel within. And that is possible through Nam Simran alone. I am not going to touch any other dharmas, on what they do or not, as Sikhee is the most universal path for all mankind. Nobody has to change their nationality, nor leave their dhrama or their life long rituals, which are not needed anyhow, but gradually with time and dedication to Nam Simran, one will see its futility in terms of God realization... Like, there may be many radios made in different countries of different sizes and colours, but all can tune in the same frecuency, the same radio station, the same Amrit Bani; the plastic hard cover does nothing for that tunning purpose, because it is the electronic components(mind, soul) within, which make possible that tunning of the desired station, and these are the same in each one of us. In a similar way, we can be from different countries, religions, black, white, rich, poor or not, men, women....etc., nothing of these outer things count, to unite our souls with Him. it is only purity in heart, and His Simran, which can elevate our souls within us, and make possible the merging of our souls in Him, and this process, thankfully no man, no devi, no devta can change....This process of becoming pure and merging is designed by Him, for all times or eras. May God bless you, Sat Sree Akal,
  23. Dear Singhni, first of all be yourself as you are. Characters and personalities are very much the result of one´s past karmas. One´s character can not be changed, just by trying to be and behave like others. This is not like going to the gym, and build one´s body,or getting slim, by exercising. One´s character, is one´s very own nature, right up to the last day of one´s life. Let us ask ourselves, what is being mature? Is it partying, smoking, drinking, dancing, dressing according to the last fashion? No, that is not being mature. Mature is being balanced in life, and making the right decisions, which one thinks are right. Other thing if they are succesful, which are the results, and they are not in one´s hands, but on karmas. Being mature is being satisfied with oneself within one´s limitations, as nobody is perfect, but in trying and giving one´s best with honesty . Being mature is also to be truthful with oneself and with our family, friends if any, society in general. The thing is, not feeling forced in doing what one does not like, though it may be done by the rest of the world. Beacuse after all, one knows one´s limitations ... and no two people have the same capacity, in any field. Nobody is perfect, nobody is born perfect. Then spiritually speaking, which is the most important factor in one´s life, being mature is making the most of, the most valuable gift given to us by Wahiguru Akal Purukh, which is this human body. Let others do what they want, but we know, that to make the most of this golden opportunity, is to do that thing, which will free me from the creation and not bring me back into it. So what is that thing? According to the Bani, it is unconditional love and devotion at the Lotus Feet of wahiguru Akal Purukh, in the form of Nam Simran. It is only this type of devotion, which will take us from this side of the creation, to the very lap of our True Father in Sach Khand. This is maturity, this is knowledge... Mature people do get the best, and our best is none else than our beloved Wahiguru Akal Purukh. So we have to strive to achieve Him, by His Grace. And at the last, merging in Him, who is the only Supreme Perfection, is what makes one the most wise, and the most mature person. Singhni bhenji, may Wahiguru bless you Sat Sree Akal .
