  1. Like seriously.......... Talibans wear Turbans........ Black people carry combs in their 'fros........ Crocodile Dundee did carry a knife ( <_< )........ Everyone wears kacharae............. The gora wore a kardta [sarcasm] whoa whoa wait........ the gora wore a kardta?! NO WAY! no i can't stand for that.... that's just pushing it. [/sarcasm] On a bigger note, I personally think everyone is just starting to make up random threads for the sake of arguments (I've seen at least this month....) So all of you remember "Don't argue with fools"
  2. I don't think you get enough thanks for doing this. I myself ignored this post for a while, but i've realised how much work you put into it, and I find myself reading this every day now. Keep it up!
  3. Hi everyone, so, the run-down: I'm doing some art on Sikhism that I want all to be able to like (so Sikhs, Hindus, Whites, Blacks, everyone!). And I was wondering what kind of designs are Sikhi related? I was thinking I would use some actual pictures, such as a khanda or a Guru Jee, but I think it would be better if I just did pure design. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
  4. You can PM me for her website or screen name. Tis a very emotional book, i actually cried reading it.
  5. Bhain Jee, thank you for explaining what I tried to do. Your way makes much more sense.
  6. Hi Hello, I will assume you're looking for a book that compares Sikhism to Science, try this link, right click on link and save target as, hopefully it helps Sikh Religion and Science Sat Sri Akal 89675[/snapback] OMG..... that's all typed up!?!? OH well, just wasted a week.
  7. To finish this pointless argument: Will God think any less of you because you wore a color?
  8. People are starting to blow things out of proportion again. Our parents’ generation and our generation. Our parents’ generation believes in too much tradition. Our generation believes in rigid Religion. I'm not saying I’m an atheist or an anti-gurmukh or anything, hell no! What I'm saying is that people have to start learning the stuff behind everything. Why was it that you had to marry into the same caste? Why is it that you shouldn't have kaam, krodh, lobh, moh, and hankaar? Like I said people are blowing it out of proportion. On the main subject I will be extremely harsh and truthful (at least I think): Your parents are extremely prejudiced, and I think that you should tell them about this. The moment I read your post I was extremely angered (I will explain why anger is okay later on). Lets take a little walk back into history for a moment. Caste is a Portuguese word meaning "social division". The Hindu word for caste is Warna (color). Indian historians think that caste came into play when the fair skinned Aryans, enslaved the dark skinned aboriginals and hated them as an inferior breed (around 1500 BC). around 200 BC, Manu codified the castes into four groups: Brahman, Kashatrya, Vaish, and Shudra. 1. Heredity: one can't change his caste 2. Endogamy: a member of one caste must marry members of the same cast 3. Communal Restrictions: accepting food and drinks from other castes or mixing with them in meetings as equals is a big no no. So tell your parents that Sikhism preaches perfect equality between human beings. The Guru Jee said: "God created light and infused it in everybody. How can some be good and others Evil?" (QUOTE:1) Guru Nanak Dev Jee condemned discrimination between human beings as BS and said that human beings should be judged according to the deeds they have done. "Your caste is betrayed by your actions and behavior" (QUOTE:2). If your parents won't even listen to the quotes from Gurbani tell them a real story then. Tell them how Bhai Mardana (Guru Nanak Dev Jee's very good friend) was condemned twice by society because of his low caste and because he was a Muslim in association with Guru Jee. Yet Guru Jee loved Mardana Jee and was friends with him until the end of Bhai Mardana Jee's Life without ONCE asking him to renounce Islam. "False is the distinction of caste and status. Everybody has equal protection of God" (QUOTE:3) I think you honestly need to stand up to your parents, no joke (don't disrespect them, but don't do everything they say either). As Berkeley said "Do not believe in the words of a teacher unless you yourself are convinced of the truth contained in his words." You, Singhio, do not sound like you are convinced of what your parents are saying. Even Gurbani supports not blindly following a religion (like many people in the sangat and this forum are starting to do). "First, examine the merchandise carefully, and only then, make the deal." (QUOTE:4). Back to the last post made. I know you didn't really mean it that strictly brother, but many other people in the forum are starting to, So don't think I'm slandering your name or your good deeds. Some people think that one should not have any Lust, Anger, Greed, Attachment, or Egotism. I'm here to say that you are half-way wrong. Don't lust, yeah that's right, but that doesn't mean you can't have Sex at all. After all Guru Nanak Dev Jee had 2 sons, they didn't just appear. Don't get angry over small things, Correct. Be a complete pacifist however? No! You need to stand up for your rights and for others as well. I don't think that in all the battles fought by the Singhs, in which they didn't even once get angry. Don't be greedy, correct! But don't try to give away all your money so that you can't even live! You need some greed (or ambition really) to gain money to support your family. Do not be attached to worldly things, correct! But don't give up God as well. Don't be egotistic about everything possible, correct! But don't think that you can't be proud every once in a while either. I honestly think that its okay for you to be angry over this issue, this is very discriminating! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1 Avil Alh nUru aupwieAw kudriq ky sB bMdy ] First, Allah created the Light; then, by His Creative Power, He made all mortal beings. eyk nUr qy sBu jgu aupijAw kaun Bly ko mMdy ]1] From the One Light, the entire universe welled up. 9. I think that most of the people here still need a line. So if someone could post it, it would be great. Honestly, I think this is all about how Hindus used to wear special colors for special holidays/seasons, and thet Guru Jee was telling us that color doesn't change our outside appearance. Everything in Gurbani is logical if you want it to be. So once we get the whole passage from where this whole conversation came up, we can't really decide anything.
  10. You guys are starting to argue, just wanted to point that out. Personally I dont think wearing colors matters. Who here can tell me that they don't see anything that is Red/Blue? Your english teacher uses a red pen to mark errors not because she's a hindu but because it sticks out from the black and makes it easier to see. Many Signs in Britain are Red/Blue..... they contrast each other... please don't tell me that the people who made signs in Britain were Hindu/Turkish and used their home colors. Its a color. A color people... a color. There are so many Gursikhs that wear Navy Blue Kurta Pajamas. They are now Turks, according to this conversation. What about those people that are Color Blind, and can't see anything except Blue/Red.... Seriously, think about what you guys are typing in here before you post it. I completely agree with Khalsa.
  11. How does this apply to Sikhism? Sorry, it just looks like you didn't do your work, and are now trying to get it done online.
  12. For the people who are ignorant just remember the last line of the 19th paurdtee of Aasaa dee Vaar. If he's someone who's honestly curious then you cant really give a short and simple way of telling them. Please do not ignore people like the person you encountered Sony, listen to them..... then walk away. There's a difference between that and ignoring. Another thing (if you do find yourself in that position again, and don't want to remember the stuff i typed above), he did say "like police take out their gun and shoot people?" You should have defenitely said: Yes, just like that, the police (ourselves) take out their guns (kirpaans) to shoot people [who are oppressing/etc. the weak/defense-less]. Well, that's what I woulda done anyways. Sony, there's no need to feel bad, there are some ignorant people out there, no reason to trouble your mind over them.
  13. Hi *hello* (yh, yh, everyone's doing it... but its funny) I dont have a lot of time but yh, there is a lot of Science in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib! It covers things like: cosmology, creation, laws of motion, laws of nature, the moon, and more (that i can't remember off the top of my head). It also covers social sciences such as politics or law. Even democracy and communism! well i can't really think of anymore, and have to get back to Calculus.
  14. What exactly are you not getting? First off, what is it that you want that you're not getting?
  15. Okay, this whole thread has become bland. We're repeating the same topic over and over, we've agreed on everything.
  16. My Uncle says that they want to get at least 10k booking before they go out and distribute them. They're highly thinking of USA/CAN mostly, and yes definitely have your relatives and everyone buy them. If they can gain a profit they will use that money to make their next movie.
  17. first off, welcome to the Forums! Second off, I believe the SGPC said that no SGGS may be printed in English only. However it is okay if you have a SGGS in punjabi that has English Translation/Meaning. So i think its okay. . . (but i may be wrong)
  18. It would be a very good idea to spread this around all forums (but since I don't know about any other forum online... I can't, lol)
  19. EVERYONE in my school knows who I am and the basics on Sikhism. (everyone is 3000+), a smaller percentage (i'd say 25%) know more indepth detail. I really didn't have to do that much work, just act good, people are curious, so you tell them your a Sikh, and then they do the work themselves (ie google).
  20. Just in case anyone wanted to know (me and my bro got some info on being fit) if your 14 do only cardio (so treadmill where the incline is at least 7) and if you really want to do weight training where you do at least 40 repititions 15 year olds still do cardio (move the incline to 8) and 30 reps 16 year olds do cardio (at incline 9/10 if possible) and 20 reps After 16 years of age it all depends on what you want to do, if you want endurance stay at 20 or 25 reps, if you wanna go into muscles go down to 15. If you really want muscles wait till 18 or 20 and drop down to 8 reps. Cardio is important for any age, you need it for metabolism (i believe that was said somewhere). just FYI
  21. Blood is very important to Indians (and it disgusts me to this day). My mother will always defend my uncle (though i'm sorry to say) is very very anti-gurmat, only because he is blood-related (she's also like this with her sister, but since my masi is a very nice and generous person, i dont think to much on it). It honestly disgusts me how you can stick up for a person that you know is doing some very bad things. The whole Indian mentality has done this, there used to be a caste system and ever since it was abolished you had to make your "name" good. You had to marry into this family because they would make you more "respected" Codswallop all of it, If you wanna adopt a kid.... excellent in my opinion.
  22. Do you mean like how every [aka, almost every] single cab driver is a Sikh?
