  1. Please include the book, Hair Power by Sarup Singh Alag in your research. You can find the book on Amazon and Sunday stalls. Also try http://www.vidhia.com/Informational/The_Case_For_Keeping_Kesh.pdf And I wouldn't put to much faith in anything Khuswant Singh says, he has many anti-sikh views.
  2. Yes so many things seem contradictory...and its really hard to know what to explain and what not to. For example, I had to miss school to attend the protest for Rajoana and I emailed my teacher that i was going to protest against the death penalty for Balwant Singh. And when I came back she asked me the success of my civil activism(that's what she termed it) I told her that the date has been moved back and he might be hung on another day. She then asked me what was his crime. And I had to pause and wonder if I should hide things and dress up the truth to make it look less horrible....but then i said, he was a back-up suicide bomber......and she said well i'm never for the death penalty but i'm never for suicide bombers either.
  3. In case you don't read Se Kineheya ........the maryada is if u read it when it's dark or after sunset u have to continuously read it until the sun rises. But if you read it in the daytime, you can do one paath of Chandi di Vaar or how many ever you want. As for inspiration: Well the last pangti's of chandi di vaar are"Whoever reads this paath, will not come into jooni" that's a very loose translation but...
  4. seems like i hit a sensitive nerve. r most ppl who come on this forum so dense that you actually have a sarcasm sign? it's just that i'm tired of ppl acting like getting married is a hukam of guru ji....that we have to be grishti means we have to be married........
  5. Now let's move on to the Award for Best Username.... I nominate Kaljugi (it's short, unique and to the point) I also nominate Balait da Sher (it's so retro...in punjabi)
  6. I've noticed the same thing that from 47 onwards many things have been morally disputed and seem wrong. But i disagree about the cause. It's not the legitimacy that's in question. It's the disunity. I always think of 2 types of ppl when 84 is brought up...the innocent ppl who got butchered in Harminder Sahib or the valiant heroes who got shaheed in Akaal Takhat Sahib. I would rather be the latter. If all the panth would've been united we wouldn't have had casualties of innocent ppl, back then( Guru Ji's time and Baba Deep singh Ji's time) ppl were united. ppl weren't selfish enough to stand on the sidelines and watch other ppl get shaheed back then. The fact that ppl got the same kind of thinking that was prevalent during the Jewish Holocaust times that as long as its not me 'i'm safe' or as long as i don't stand up for something 'I'm safe' as long as i pretend i'm not jewish and follow each restriction on jewish ppl to the letter 'i'll be safe'. well they weren't. the more they allowed themselves to get repressed and integrated and followed their countries governments and the more they stayed silent abt injustices...the more they got hurt later on. Same with Sikhs, the ppl who didn't support bhindranwale, didn't mind the injustices going on at the time, the more they got hurt....and the more they will get hurt. Hurt as in killed, wiped out, destroyed.
  7. OMG.....I can't believe it....HHIS <banned word filter activated> would anyone think marriage was the solution...never mind marrying younger Scooter....go to this post: http://naam-jor.blogspot.com/2008/09/how-to-overcome-lust.html and read the comments especially the one that gives a shabad to read. FWIW: girls hate guys who stare at them or other girls ...they seem like pervs and useless little velarh mandeer....in cartoon version that would be the guys with the mouth open salivating and staring. totally gross, eh? IMNSHO......Marriage is not all that great...It's gonna be the Singles who have Sikhi in the future. Cause as soon as ppl get married they become family-focused and only have time and care for their children. Single ppl will have the time and empathy and resources to help ppl outside their familys. they won't be so frazzled and tired with dumb family problems. Single ppl will be the kathavachaks, the lecturers, the committee members, the car pool drivers. The ones who will be able to help elderly, teenagers, and do all the other suggestions in autismmum's post. Basically the ones involved in the community, while the married ppl are busy running after their SNERT brats. The lucky singles will be the one doing parchaar and teaching ur smelly brats while u guys finally have a chance to relax. Yeah! Single for life!!!! CNP (thanks mirror)
  8. was the picture of the flag burning from the califonia (san francisco) protest ?
  9. One of the inaccuracies would be how adamantly Mcauliffe supports the fact that Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Gurpurb is in April not in Katak(October/November). He like to compare the fact that as Christians misplaced Jesus"s birthday to december 25 so did the Sikhs. Otherwise it addresses both sides of all other conterversies. I was surprised that even back then there was a difference in what people thought Sachkhand was. Some thought it was like Nirvana, a state of the mind/soul others thought is was a place.
  10. I think Amrit Vela and a schedule might help with the "i find it difficult to look after myself" part as for the sadness, do Sukhmani Sahib, Dukh Bhajani Sahib and lots of other bani, when I had really bad times, doing bani really made a difference. For example I was in a car accident (totally my fault) i ruined the car, felt so useless, was depressed and had to listen to my parent gala "scoldings" everyday...so i started reading bani just to stay away from them... and soon I was happy and parents didn't talk abt the accident so much..... But when i'm happy, I can't do paath, but when something bad happens or i'm under a lot of stress at school, i wish so badly to have time to listen to kirtan and read bani....but then when stress or depression(not real depression just sadness that nothing matters, wasting my life) is gone...the urge to do paath goes away....so sometimes i like the sadness and it reminds me of the pangti: Dukh Daaro Sukh Rog Bhaiya......
  11. Read this post, as it addresses why your father is acting like you're doing something wrong. And what you can do about it: http://manvirsingh.blogspot.com/2006/04/i-want-to-take-amrit-but-my-parents_11.html But ur dad seems hardcore unwilling to discuss and just plain out "get out" response to anything....seems like kop singh's reverse psychology will have the most effect.... Your dad thinks he's right, so that makes it justified to him to use any and all means. He probably thinks all amritdharis are poor and get killed by police. i had the same problem except all my family is amritdhari...and i tried to become bibeki(not eat from outside like restaurants and not eat bread etc) my dad would get really angry and be like "give up water then cause all faucets/tuti's have leather parts on the pump. only dera ppl are into this sucham stuff" and "brahmaan-vaad" You might want to tell your dad this true story told by a camp vala baba: One time a camp in BC, the baba noticed a girl with tatoos, crazy hair, etc. The baba finally got the story out of the girl and the dad. That the girl used to do Sukhmani Sahib everyday, but her dad stopped her and told her to just concentrate on her studies. But the girl said she could do both, but he didn't listen. So the girl rebelled and started doing wrong things. ...
  12. lol though i was just being practical....wat would u rather do sit and do nothin all day or be useful....i mean she could do other stuff if she knows how....get a job..i guess....
  13. This is the smallest section....(as in only one page with only about 10 topics) says something about us, don't it?
  14. Dictator Indira Gandhi, Power'hungry, the Reyna in the Reign of Terror,
  15. The gold mine: Please pass along this video, it has lots of examples of punjab police violence.
  16. Transliteration: "Agar es desh meh rehna hoga Hindu hit meh kehna hoga jila frumv(?couldn't get that word) Harish Sharma Hindu Sharaksha Sumiti "
  17. Waheguru Ji ka Khalsa waheguru Ji ki Fateh "sadgant Ji bhai Balwant singh rajuwana di saheedi Nu mukh rakde hoye sangta Wednesday Nu protest kar rahia Han canberra vickhe , jinna v sma ho ske jaroor kadan di koshih Karo Ji , bus parklea guru ghar to challe gi 5:am melbourn and sheptron sangat is coming to join as well in front of indian embessy canberra" quote from gurmatbibek.com There will be a protest on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 in Canberra in front of Indian Embassy. The Bus will start at 5 am from Gurudwara. Melbourne and Sheptron Sangat is coming. Wahegurujikakhalsa Wahegurujikifateh
  18. BE CAREFUL!!! Badal and Indian media is spreading lies to stop protests abroad...So far there has been no announcement from the Courts or Central Govt so Badal and them are lying. It's a chaal (trick) to stop the momentum. They are trying to spread confusion so no one knows what's going on and ppl can relax. On punjabi Radio USA there was an interview with Daduwal who said there are protest being held daily in India and fansi is still to be held on the 31st. Stop such confusing and fake stories from spreading!! Indian Govt will try many tricks even the 'do fansi in secret a few days earlier'...So please wherever you hear such news, stop it from spreading further. Mods please delete this topic.
  19. In the California protest, 3 resolutions were put forward : 1. To continue with the momentum...have more conferences,protests...etc and form international sikh youth platform 2. Give Bibi Kamaldeep Kaur the title(khitab) of "panth di Bhain" ..."Sister of the Panth" 3. And to ask the Akaal Takhat to take a stand...lead the Sangat in the right paath
  20. Actually there were some New York Jews that were against Israel. They were the religious ones who didn't want Israel created by humans for them, they wanted Israel that would be granted to them by God's Messiah. It would be more beautiful and better than any Israel humans could create. Of course they were the minority. Americans. jk :biggrin2:
  21. What muppets are you referring to ? And I don't know if u should be so glad of the fact that the British treated us so good. Some ppl like the Hindus like to point out that the British treated us special because they wanted to divide the Indians and wanted the military power on their side. So that's why when the Sepoy Mutiny happened, the British used Sikh ppl to put it down and they say only Muslims and Hindus were doing the Mutiny. And that the British could have been ousted but because of the Sikhs they weren't. I mean how great is it if the British treated us good? It was our raaj they got and they wanted to keep rebellion down. Also heard that because the British wanted to tame the warrior spirit in sikhs they did some malavat in Dasam Granth or tried to and they banned So Sakhi. (The author of a translation of So Sakhi, we have at home, says he did the translation hidden in a mosque.) And we lost the true art of Shaster Vidya cause of British ppl cause they banned it after they Anglo-Sikh wars. And then as ever they used their cunning and won the Sikh ppl over to their side to fight wars. Yeah we got a lot of good things cause of them, but still we shouldn't be proud of the fact that they made us slaves and treated us good.
  22. Sikh Freedom Fighter Against the British: Bhai Vaisakha Singh and other Gadhar members: He actually got sent to Kale Pani and I think others got Fansi. Kartar Singh Sarabha was only one of a group of Singhs getting Fansi, but the reason he is remembered is because he was the youngest and the British were all like ur young don't waste ur life..but he said I want Fansi with my brothers. Babar Akali Singhs The Singhs who fought for the Gurudwara: Jaito da Morcha, Nanakana Sahib da Morcha is especially horrific....they also fought against the British And the shaheeds in the Anglo-Sikh Wars, wasn't that also against the British
  23. GKD, I want to do something in science, but not sure. Can you tell what a geophysicist does? And about theother options out there? Thanks
