  1. its not a problem with Sikhs its a problem with the Georgian calendar. These Sikh dates are coming from the Bikrami Calendar and thus don't always match up to the imperfect Georgian calendar. I personally follow Bikrami because its so much cooler, each month relates to what's happening during that solar Moon cycle eg. Eg Chet is when the flowers first come out and Viasakh is when the blossom to the fullest. its.much a head of its time in many ways but there is already a topic in this posted recently.

    Tight Dastaar

I bought what is called Aircraft Cable from Canadian Tire it cost me $7 I think. It was in a section where there was a whole bunch of metal wires hanging.. you can buy anyone of those and they will do the job, just make sure black grease doesnt come of it cause that will wreck your paag. I cut it at about the length of my paag more or less; Try to cut the edge nicely as possible. Sikhi Store sells them too http://www.sikhistore.com/product/torra/. You can also search ‘tora chand’ on Google Images to get an idea of what it looks like.

    Tight Dastaar

It's up to you.. I prefer to go an inch.or two over both sides of your ears kinda like the beginning of tying a.paag then do a round or two rounds at The very top then do circles in the middle..and then finally tying your dastar ontop leaving some of the Tora showing though the 50 or sometimes completely concealled but I recommend doing whatever fits you dastar best.. its completely up to you
  4. wash your hair and full body
  5. well FancyBanana I'm sure even you would consider it.wrong to bring you plate from the langar hall to the darbar sahib divan. Thanks for.the.replies I did do it twice was moving all weekend so didnt do it recently.. but it was really enjoyable. I hate all the filth and dried up stuff that comes on 75% of TV so I stopped watching tv listening to news or using facebook for some time. I still probably should read news more but anyways back to the topic I guess its only wrong to eat your own food infront of SGGS Ji but listening to select shabads at home.is fine

you can buy a Tora from Canadian tire or home depot. It is a thick metal thread and wrap that around your dastar and it will never fall of.. and then tie another pug ontop. I am assuming you are tying two paags. If not that is also very helpful. Tie a small paag and then a bigger on ontop using the small one as a 50.
  7. I'm pretty sure vegeterian covers fish.. research it. http://m.dictionary.com/definition/vegetarian maybe in India its different but here in Canada I'm 96% sure it includes fish and 75% sure it includes eggs too.
  8. I personally prefer rice sticks that can easily be fried into chow mein. There's other vermicelli stuff that have like 3 "materials" in them you can read on the back to make sure they have no eggs but beware 80% of noodles I think do have eggs
  9. so what its just English guy probably has a good Indic vocubulary. Don't worry doode Sikhs respect the average man no matter how different he is. Visit Keshgargh sahib jeos.
  10. wicked article. I want that book too Sarb Rog The Abyss Gurbani. I think bandginama English was the first book on Sikhi I ever read
  11. I quit alcohol shortly after my last post 8 posts above or 2 years earlier. I haven't had a sip of that stuff for 2 years now. Mainly happened because of meeting a random Mahapurkh while I was strolling outside my old house where I lived then. He was walking around Singing Gurbani with a bunch of Sikhs following him who where repeating after him. That man led me to the house he was staying and advised me to not eat meat and watch gundiya films and listen to bad music. Without thinking to much of it at the time I said okay whatever. But then when I went home I had a desire to cook vegetarian and did so, and after meeting with him a few more times within those 2 or 3 weeks I stopped drinking, I dont think he explicitly told me to stop drinking and I never told him. I hadnt been following Guru's Way for about a year at that time, and then I went to get Amrit chack/pesh a few months after, When I took amrit I promised to never drink again but I forgot to tell them that I had a bit of my hair cut because it was in a dread in the shape of weird crescent moon thing and could not be recombed. After the hukamnama which had something to do about hair I felt guilty. I told the Panj Pyare Khalsa that I washed my hair the night before not in the morning as you are supposed to so they dismissed me from the initiation.. The importance of hair hit me soo hard and I felt as If I was wonderstruck of witnessing the Khalsa. So I went to get amrit Chaked again a month later I think and this time I told them about the hair and also washed it the morning. Now I have soo much respect for my hair soooo much I would let something happen to my body or get my body dirty but never my hair.

    Nitnem Cassettes

cassettes are awesome, I have like 200 Gurbani/Punjabi/or 80-90s Dharmic Music/ Cassettes. I know some shops near the Gurdwara still sell them where they sell Punjabi literature.
  14. A good days work equal good days sleep. Read Taksal Maryada and do everyhing init. Wake up in the.morning.and recite.waheguru gurmanter 5 times and. then do ardas that you will never be scared of Subh Karm and do them as fast as possible and do smart things as fast as possible... this will teach u to listen to the Gurus inner voice.
  15. This.makes me think.of.the.akalis and where it says they are supposedly allowed to steal anybody wanna.clear that up as well. Honest work is best if you follow your heart you will be a honest being.I think. I dk the rule for that pesonally but you should never do amuthng dishonest where money or food is involved
  16. jasvinderbhai Vera you are not wrong by what you said and I respect your view .. In ASA Ki Vaar kitani there is a line that says sidds are trapped in moh or something like that and how the.guru is great because he makes me/the reader jaap His naam. its defiantly not a black and white issue with both sides offering sommething but if they argue they lose something .. I wish I wrote that in Punjabi.. anyone here know all 22 vaars of.gurbani?
  17. The story seems somewhat similar to a variation of Tunda Asraja, who is mentioned at the very start of Asa ki //. // Admins: If you type "//" with a capital it makes to forward slashes edit : Admins: if you type in 'bar' with a v it makes two forward slashes
  18. Bhai Sahib Ji none of us are saying we shouldn't follow SGGS Ji we are only saying that there is thousands of years of history there on topics and rather than relearn and reinvent the wheel why not use the golden wheels of vidiya God gave us. This is not bhramanwhad but bharamvad. If you look closely allmost all these revered texts be it from bhagkti movement, Tamil, Marathi, buddhist they all reject bharamanwhad. Dhan Dhan Guru Sabans reject false worship not real worship. Sukhmani sahib says the religions that follow meditation of God are the best religions so how can we speak ill of these people?
  19. why do you mean naths are a parasite to society? from what I know they are similar to siddhas who made great contributions to society eg invention and innovation of music, medicine, literature. Even Gorakh naths teachings where influencial in Punjab for the better.
