  1. If your serious about this stuff you focus should also be living like a sikh / keeping "rehat". Here is a in depth guide: http://www.vidhia.com/Rehat%20Maryada/Gurmat_Rehat_Maryada_-_Damdami_Taksal.pdf
  2. Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh (above) is excellent for spiritual concepts. For history and the lives of the Guru's I highly recommend Prof. Puran Singh. He is a literally genius and I can assume you will love his work. I recommend starting with the book the Spirit Born People (his book the Ten Masters is about the 10 Gurus). : To buy: http://jsks.biz/the-spirit-born-people-puran-singh?filter_name=puran%20singh To read online: http://www.vidhia.com/Professor%20Puran%20Singh/The_Spirit_Born_People_Puran_Singh.pdf You should defiantly focus on Guru Granth Sahib, yes that is the best focus. Here is a great link of the entire Guru Granth Sahib in English. http://www.nyu.edu/clubs/usa/docs/sggs.pdf I don't recommend reading it linearly. It is not uncommon to read a shabad, ang, or 10 angs from a random location but I also don't recommend this either* rather read it according to the time of the day based on the raag: http://www.sikhvibes.com/downloads/PDFs/Raags.pdf Eg if its 4:15 PM read the Raag Tilang pages.. and then make a note of where you left off and then the next day at 3:00pm read where you left of in the Raag Tilang section not many Sikhs do this, maybe only one at the moment, but I do recommend this. Using this method you would be reading from the Guru Granth Sahib 7 times a day which is good, but more than often: once is good enough. I usually end up being in Gurus presence 2-6 times a day using this method. * unless of course your doing a hukamnama or asking the Guru for something than random location is often used in the community.
  3. I know someone that teaches kirtan via skype, you can pm me if your interested.
  4. Interesting where did you hear that about the Tav Prasad Swaayie to be recited like that? As far as Jaap Sahib I think this link will help you with the matras and chands: http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Chands_in_Jaap_Sahib Im pretty sure the Short (Laghu) and Long (Guru), known by notations I and S they mentioned are from the Mahan Kosh and if you search the chands name i think you can also find them there.
  5. after 1984 there was a end of racism from.mainsteam society for.all people. the way we treat each other is eg being equal etc is directly and explicitly because of Guru Nanak. Sikhi.doesn't grow.by.numbers or land it grows.by the way the world changes.for.the.better.
  6. edit: I was talking about liking the tamogon post at Tue end of page 2 not your above.post
  7. I love.your.above post neo Singh but certain individuals should be banned from being read by the sangat by gullible individuals. eg imagine of someone reads his intro to Sikhism book and then bases his thought of Sikhism on that book. and then decides to cut their hair and go away from Sikhism.. I understand sarbat the bala and wouldnt hurt a fly but if you need to dig a hole and there are insects there you just pray that you don't kill any but continue to destroy their living space and if your planting a new plant and in order to plant that plant you need to dig out the old plant and weeds so be it. Now back to the topic can it be the benifit of society if we celebrate his death via sarbat the bala... somewhat yes ... and we shouldnt be afraid of bashing such individuals as long.as.we don't do nindya untruthful things. He himself has done.a lot of nindya. Nah mean? do you think I am rightish? bhul chuk maaf. Also please note I suggest that all sangat and especially guillabe individuals don't read books by non gurmuck thinking individuals on Sikhi related topics especially books by British because a lot on untruth in them. They the add these random "facts" in them which hold untrue but the reader assumes them to.be true .
  8. Check it out: http://nepalicalendar.rat32.com/index.php?year=2070&month=12&dowhat=nepali-calendar-horoscope-game-download-unicode-new-year-mobile-calendar&view=bd4c9ab730f5513206b999ec0d90d1fb
  9. I heard it is best to get the ones with metal tuning knobs as opposed to buying the cheaper wooden tuning knobs
  10. WJKK WJKF!! I have seen many people trying to edit Wikipedia but unable to have their edits stay. So I have put together this guide http://proj-wiki.akalikaursinghresearchjatha.com/ If you have done some specified research on a particular topic my beanti is for you to check the corresponding Wikipedia page and update the information you gained. If you haven’t done any deep research you can still help. Go any of the Gurus pages and add in a bit there.. there isn't really much there at the moment. ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖ਼ਾਲਸਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਹਿ !
  11. Technically we supposed to have a kirpan like that all times.
  12. Great Video! Could you make a pdf or some sort of document that is like a aam calender booklet but for Bikrami. Eg. It starts with Chet and then displays all the important dates and on the next page there is the Vaisakh month, with all the important dates, and so on?
  13. only one way to find out good work though I am gonna do the same one mm at a time
  14. Punjabi Reader Level 1 by Mr. Vatuk best book. Very detailed, easy to read, and starts from the very beginning. 10/10 jeos. Gur Fateh!
  15. Singh Sahib Je I didnt think that there is any OCR for Punjabi is out but then I found out about this http://ildc.in/Punjabi/pun_ocr.htm I still need to fool around with it though. When making PDFs I think we should take the extra two minutes and add Metadata so when people read on their readers and tablets eg the title wont show up as "Microsoft Word - JOTIRAO TEXT new.doc" and some random persons name in the author. The Windows program BeCyPDFMetaEdit seems to work fine for me and also Automator on Mac does the job too. WJKK WJKFF!
  16. Bharat Mat Darpan - Mahant Ganesha Singh A detailed guide to over 200 different religions and sects of India. It was written earlier, I think maybe sometime between 1830-1870, but then republished for a second time in 1926. This is the second publication. It has a history of Nihang Singhs, Akalis, Khalse Panth, Kabir Panth, and many many others. edit: Updated link
  17. There are recent revisions on the Nihang page that need to be reverted back, they suggest that it is okay to for Nihangs to drink alcohol. The source is dodgy as its is from excommunicated Niddar Singh Nihang but also it seems to be the only source that says such things so it may be applicable to the "undue-weight" policy, shouldn't be hard getting rid of it. Thanks.
  18. obvsly God :blush2: :strong: :strong: :strong: :strong: :strong: :strong: :strong: :strong: :strong: :strong:
  19. Good read mate and excellent point never thought of it that way, thanks.
