  8. http://www.iht.com/getina/files/267433.html Mother of all cover-ups The Asian Age India | Seema Mustafa New Delhi: The Nanavati Commission report, which has failed to fix responsibility for the 1984 anti-Sikh violence, has involuntarily disclosed what can be described as one of the most elaborate cover-up exercises undertaken by successive Central governments for the past 20 years. Nine inquiries later, the Sikhs demanding justice are no closer to fixing responsibility on specific leaders and officers, many of whom have been exonerated in criminal cases because of "lack of evidence". The Nanavati Commission itself received 2,557 affidavits naming Congress leaders for inciting and leading mobs in Delhi during those days. It recorded interviews with 89 persons, including journalists, Army officers, police officers and eminent persons who had either witnessed the violence, or tried to knock at the government's door for action at the time. Much of this evidence is included in the report, but even so Justice Nanavati took the view that the violence was not systematically organised by the Congress party, that just a few of the Congress leaders named were involved, and that it was actually the police that had failed to do its duty. The earlier commissions of inquiry had also preferred to hold the police and the administration responsible for the deaths of 2,733 Sikhs (unofficially 4,000) and had remained reluctant to pin the blame on the politicians. But even here the commissions remained unsuccessful in bringing erring police personnel to book. Committees under a retired secretary, Kusum Latta Mittal, and another under Justice J.D. Jain and Mr D.K. Agrawal, had identified 72 and 90 police officials respectively for action. No action was taken against 42 officials because n Turn to Page 2 they were either dead or retired. The ministry of home affairs exonerated five of the eight cases of police officers it dealt with as charges against them could not be substantiated. Of the other three officers, one was "punished" with a 30 per cent cut in his pension for five years, which is long since over, another was not served with a final order, and the third got a stay from the Central Administrative Tribunal. The Delhi government processed the cases of the remaining 97 officers. Again, no action was taken against 29 officers as they were either dead or retired. No action was initiated against nine others as they were already facing inquiries. Finally, only about 22 criminal cases were registered against the remaining 72 police officers. Till date most of these cases are gathering dust with the noting "filed untraced" against their names. Others have been acquitted, four are still pending trial and only one, Amir Khan, ASI, has been convicted. Of the total of 587 FIRs filed in Delhi during the time, 11 were quashed, three had the proceedings withdrawn, 241 were filed as untraced, 253 were acquitted, and 11 were discharged. Only 25 of the total were convicted, one is still pending investigation, and 42 are pending trial. The Nanavati Commission, while dedicating several pages to police inaction, has taken the view that "as appropriate actions were initiated against them, the Commission thought it fit not to recommend any further action against them". It further claimed that it was difficult to make recommendations against many of those named by the witnesses simply because the statements were poorly recorded, or FIRs improperly registered. However, the Nanavati Commission has given a clean chit to the Congress party, maintaining there was "absolutely no evidence" to suggest the involvement of senior Congress leaders, and "whatever acts were done were done by local Congress (I) leaders and workers, and they appear to have done so for purely personal reasons". On many of these leaders, against whom it has found "credible evidence", the Nanavati Commission has surprisingly taken the view that "as they have been acquitted in the criminal cases filed against them, the Commission does not recommend any further action against them". Mr H.K.L. Bhagat also falls in this particular category because of "his physical and mental condition". In fact, the only leaders that the commission speaks out against are Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar, Dharam Dass Shastri (who is dead) and one Balwan Khokhar, against whom it has found credible evidence of involvement. The commission is of the view that these leaders were "probably involved". Here the government has come to their rescue with the Action Taken Report making it very apparent that the home ministry has found no reason to take action against these leaders. And the case, as far as the government is concerned, is closed.
  9. joth roop har aap guroo naanak kehaayo || The Embodiment of Light, the Lord Himself is called Guru Nanak Not sure I have opinion about whether Guru is God, but I thought this thukh from Gurbani would cause at least a couple of replies. I'm all about stirring the pot.
  10. no jee, i believe you are speaking Sant Baba MahaHarnaam Singh Jee... Se Kineya is about Sant Harnaam Singh Jee (Rampur Kheray).
  11. i'm hearing conflicting reports that tapoban.org is number #1. I really wish there was some professional body that rated all these sikhiforums.
  12. Baba Jee is using what is called a "bairaagan". There is a picture of Bhai Sahib Bhai Randheer Singh Jee using this device. It is meant to keep one's back straight as they meditate. I believe both Gursikhs (and probably many others) used them as they got older and had a harder time keeping their backs straight. I don't really see them being used much these days though...
  13. no no K 5INGH, regardless of whether it's dyeing or plucking the issue is changing the form that Waheguru has blessed you with. Please don't mind my stupid posts. I was just relating the story as to how ~I~ heard it. Doesn't mean I"m right...
  14. I've heard this sakhi with a slight twist though... I heard that the Singh PLUCKED his white hair out.
  15. Ghatak Jeeo, I believe that the Pir Suleman is speaking Farsi in that tape...perhaps this is what you found to sound like Hindi. From my limited knowledge on the subject, Pir Suleman was actually a Muslim saint who for whatever reason dealt in "jadoo"(black magic). For this he was punished to live his life as a ghost. According to the tape, Pir Suleman possessed this young boy because in a previous life he had urinated on Pir Suleman's grave. Pir Suleman then goes on to give a description of life as a ghost and such. Some people doubt the authenticity of this recording though.
  16. I agree with AKJFOREVER Veerji. Keeping things "light" is alright. But something like doing parkarma should not be mocked or used as a punch line. There have been many Gurmukhs past and present that do Parkarma of Guru Sahib. Darbar Sahib is designed so that all who enter must first do Parkarma of Guru Sahib...
  17. "Father was thaaa besttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt " Veerji...Father IS the best.. or...thaaa besttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt ( as you put it) Waheguru.
  18. Taksaal Jeeo, please go to this link: http://www.ikirtan.com/Akhand_Kirtan_Smaga...2004_Part_2.mp3 I believe at the 57:12 minute mark Bhai Tejinderpal Singh Jee begins singing this shabad in it's entirety. Guru Ang Sang Hovay, Naam Chith Rahay.. Waheguru Jee Ka Khalsa Waheguru Jee Kee Fateh
  19. Pyaray Akaal Jeeo, Personally Shamsher Singh doesn't hold a candle to my Guru Sahib's words... Sach Kaho Sun Laiho Sabhai Jin PREM KEEO thin hee prabh paiyo.. But since you like stories (as do I) how about this one? There was once a simple shepherd who lived a really simple life and he had really simple needs. He would look after his sheep everyday, they were his only family and he would really enjoy looking after them... One night as he sat down to eat under the roof of the starlit sky, an overwhelming feeling of love came over him. He looked up and he saw the night sky lit up with thousands of brilliant stars and he thought, "VAAH, you are wonderful!! You created the heavenly stars and you also created a fool like me!" He felt so proud to part of the same creation as the beautiful stars. With love filled eyes he said "Tonight, I do not want to eat alone. I want you to eat with me! If you are hungry like me then I would rather feed you. If your clothes are tattered like mine then I would rather mend them than mine. If you smell the way I do then I would rather bathe you - I have no need to keep these things for myself - if I give them to you then it means I also have them!!" The simple man then said "give me a sign that you are here with me and only then shall I begin to eat." A Faqir was walking past at the same time as this simple man was saying his plea to God. Upon hearing what the simple man was saying the Faqir become infuriated. He went over to the simple man and said "How dare you say these things about God!! God doesn't have tattered clothes, He is never hungry and He does not smell!!" Upon saying these things to the simple man he slapped him as hard as he could and walked off saying "You should be ashamed of yourself!!" The simple man was still in a state of bliss and said "If you choose to slap me then that is also a divine blessing!! I Love You." The shepherd accepted this as his sign that God was with him and began to eat. When the Faqir got home he sat down to do his prayers, a voice came and said "Faqir, what have I done to upset you?" The Faqir realised that it was God's voice said "Father, nothing you do could ever upset me!" "Then why did you slap me?" said the voice. "Slap you? Father I could never slap you!!" said the Faqir. "I was enjoying the love that the shepherd was giving me, so I sat in his soul, then you came along and slapped him and therefore slapped me," said the voice. "But father, he was saying disrespectful things to you, I had to stop him" said the Faqir. "The insult is in the intention my son, those words that he was saying were like a love song to me because I could feel his heart, while you listened to his words and not his heart!" said the voice. The Faqir realised what a mistake he had made and asked God for forgiveness... Waheguru Jee Ka Khalsa Waheguru Jee Kee Fateh!
  20. It's true that Gurbani does say har ka bilovunah bilovo meray bhaee || sehaj bilovo jasay tuth na jaaee || However Gurbani also does say.. kabeer kaeso kaeso kookeeai n soeeai asaar || raath dhivas kae kookanae kabehoo kae sunai pukaar In this shabad is clearly saying that we should be yelling/screaming to Waheguru. Kookeeai is equal to yelling. Before you head off to Sikhitothemax and make a quick search let me save you the trouble as the translation does not say yelling. However, I suggest you look at the following thukh "oochae kookehi vaadhaa gaavehi jodhhaa kaa veechaar" as well. (Just so we don't have any misunderstandings ) I personally think that we are not to judge the relationship that someone makes/haves with Guru Sahib or Waheguru. We all know that Guru Sahib has compared Himself as a friend, mother, father, husband to his Gursikhs. However I make my "rishtaa" with Guru Sahib is up to me. We all know of various different Sants and Pooran Gursikhs who achieved muktee, but not ALL used the same method. The one thing that all had was a LOVE for Waheguru. How they expressed that was what differed. bhul chuk maaf.. Waheguru Jee Ka Khalsa Waheguru Jee Kee Fateh
