Rajbir Singh, 10th class student at Guru Hargobind Public School was sent to the Principal's office after he greeted his teacher, Ravroop Singh, with Waheguru ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh. Principal, Palwinderpal Singh beat him up with sticks and broke his hand and fingers. Rajbir Singh told that the previous principal never had any issues with students greeting teachers with Fateh, but the new principal wanted students to say "Good Morning" instead of Fateh.

Sikhs are very welcoming. Honestly, Indian Sikhs will be fascinated to see a white American Sikh wearing a turban. Most of them probably go like" Look a white guy wearing a turban. AAMMMAZZING.. WOW!!!! He looks great." As Guru Sahib said, Consider all Human Race as One, Sikhs will not discriminate or look you down. They will probably look up to you to better their Sikhi. It takes immense courage and dedication to be a Sikh in America. There are many "white" sikhs in America. esp in New Mexico and California. Finally, what are your opinions on keeping kesh, but not wearing a turban? Turban is gift of Guruji and we wear it proudly as a crown. As Guru Sahib was king, we all are princes and princesses of Guru Sahib. It is important to wear a turban. There many different styles of turbans. You can pick the one which the one you feel comfortable with. Practice wearing it everyday and you will get better at tying it. I am sure people at Local Gurdwara would help you with this. In the beginning, you can start wearing a small keski, and slowly proceed to bigger turban. Dont worry, keep your head high and adorn yourself with gift of Guru Gobind Singh ji.
