1. this is absolutley shocking................................we cant let this happen.........does anyone know why hes in prison?? Sikhs protest against forced removal of prisoner's hair By SSNews, timesofindia, Sikh Coalition Mar 31, 2006, 19:02 Email this article Printer friendly page In a massive campaign to safeguard the religious rights of a Sikh prisoner in the US, Sikh organisations worldwide have lodged their protest against the jail authorities' move to cut his hair against his will. The Sikh Coalition, a US-based organisation initiated the move, and a petition has been addressed to Florida Governor Jeb Bush, secretary department of corrections, James McDonough and deputy secretary of corrections, Laura Bedard, to stop federal authorities from forcibly cutting Satnam Singh's hair and removing his turban. Satnam Singh (pictured) who is currently in a federal jail may have to face having his hair forcibly removed after he is transferred to the Florida State System Jail on April 9. The Florida Administrative code notes, "Male inmates shall have their hair cut short to medium uniform length at all times." The section further states that "All inmates shall be clean-shaven, provided, however that an exemption from this requirement shall be granted on the basis of a medical diagnosis." If an inmate refuses to adhere to these grooming standards, even for faith-based reasons, the officer in charge "shall direct staff to shave the inmate or cut the inmate's hair", the rules state. As an adherent to the Sikh faith, Satnam Singh’s most fundamental religious belief (rahat) is being violated by the Florida Administrative Code. Should he be forced to cut his hair and part with the most important aspect of his religious identity, this would be a large blow to Sikhs all over the world. The petition and more details can be accessed at: http://www.sikhcoalition.org/petition_florida.asp Please ask your local Gurdwara and other organizations (both Sikh and non-Sikh) to co-sponsor this petition. To add an organization as a co-sponsor, we need the following information: Name of the organization: Address: Contact Name: Phone: Email Address: Fax: Please return the information to: The Sikh Coalition P.O. Box 7132 New York, NY 10150-7132 Email: satnamsingh@sikhcoalition.org Web: www.sikhcoalition.org Time is of the essence on this matter. It is now critical that we act swiftly and launch this campaign without further delay as Satnam Singh is to be moved to the Florida prison on April 9, 2006
2. just a thought.......... gur kau jwix n jwxeI ikAw iqsu cju Acwru ] gur ko jaan n jaanee kiaa this chaj achaar || Some are very knowledgeable, but if they do not know the Guru, then what is the use of their lives?
3. lol i want one of the bhindrawale hooddies then lol ..............sounds cool :e:
4. veer ji , dont let it get to you too much, im not quite sure why hes asking this question, h obviously hasnt searched the forum, and if hes using sikhnet then the answers should be on there
5. did it hav a khanda on 2??? i think it says sumthing about the youth of sikhi...that they almost feel obliged 2 go out & proove a point... esp at this time of year. 158329 from my own limited knowledge i havnt herd anything in sikhi which says anything about this...............but the tee shirts do look nice actually, but we should respect the meaning of it maybe .......
6. i think its wrong to wear khandas and other sikhi symbols and nishan sahib and then go around with other idiots shouting khalistan and with a bottle of vodka in your hand and fallin over
7. yea thats true, the least anyone can do is give the address or area of the gurudwara! so ppl can be aware instead of just sayin the things that happened. Cos your identity isnt going to be revealed if you say for a certain gurudwara in such n such a city. cos its annoying to hear all these horrible things and not even knowing where its happening! and whether others are at risk bhul chuk di kima FAteh Ji
8. @ wow!!!! im doing economics n im in my final year, i dont even think the head of economics at our uni has done half of whats in there lol
9. there are many sikhs who you could get in touch with, ill PM you with some details. There are many people who have just started following sikhi, so maybe if you try to get in touch with them then you will find it will help you more than learning over the net.
10. everything would be ok if we wud all live by sikh principles.....the problem is that theres always someone, your own parents, the inlaws, or other family who have to say what they think about caste, color and back ground..............most of the time the ones who are gettin married arent bothered about these things, but generally go with their family because they dont want their wife/husband to suffer the consequences when living with the family. but with regards to the topic, if people ask so many questions and have so many demands then is it really worth marrying them? We shud let guru ji do the kirpa of choosing and not worry so much fateh ji
11. they arent justifying it or trying to prove it equals 0, they are trying to get a point across, you cannot give any value to seva, rehit or amrit accurately because we do not know it. But the example given is just to get an understanding across to the reader. I thought that was a wikid example.
12. Fateh Ji I have read nearly all these stories, they are soo inspiring, many are very similar. But each persons journey is totally unique so yea your right we need to hear everyones on this forum. Iv got a dissertation to hand in , only got ten days left so thats my excuse, but i will post mine soon. Fateh
13. ermmmmm  lol this kind of thing is meant to be done undercover......or at least not discussed on an online forum.......... just a thought also i think they have heavily armed guards so you need to plan it real carefully, and not let anyone know your plans lol so again dont talk about it online... Bhul Chuk Marf Karna Fateh
14. veer i agree with you. but we shud also aknowledge the positive side. i think it is good that he came to our Guru ghar. Normally political and or royal people who visit india are advised that punjab is not a safe place for them by the indian gov, as we will probs know from the days when india was a colony. But Prince Charles has seen the greatness of Sikhi in his visits to Gurudwaras and Gatka events in the Uk, and has been told about the birth place of the Khalsa and how hospital sikhs are. In my veiw, it is good for sikh awareness, and we wud be recognised more internationally and gain more ground in political issues with his support?. I dont think it says anything about wher they had langar in the article.....did they have langar at all? They shud hav sat in the sangat on the floor. We shud find out about that. About the sheets being changed and welcome mats, i totally understand what you are saying, next time we should make sure that this doesnt happen.
15. As for khalistan go start a new thread why it is taking so long to establish. It might be because people in Punjab got fed up with people like you telling them what they need. 157949 (off topic i know but) veer we havent started telling 'them' yet, we are preparing ..........
16. Good Thinking Paji, lets leave it as this... but since when have ALL whites been stereotyped as Racists in this form? 157933 erm not sure lol i never re read what i wrote cos im workin .......maaf karna not all but 'some' ........... most of my mates are goray so i shudnt hav sed that
17. ok guys its getting outa hand.............. basically we know wat kurtas wants to say, that it may not be a racially motivated attack, also white ppl shudnt be stereotyped into racists all the time?. so lets leave it at that ...........no point in arguing about it.......... also i was just thinking, where were the sevadars when this happened. we got cctv at our gurudwara due to the amount of vandalism and (racially motivated?) attacks on the building. anyway if anyone was gna set fire surely someone wud hav seen or smelt the smoke inside and called help, so damage cud hv been minimised? just a thought anyways take deep breaths you two lol
18. http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?showto...99entry157899 double thread ........ im glad this film was made
19. Its not crazy for there to be no link to racism. We had a fire at a Gurdwara in the UK where the giani from India left his kachara on a electric heater (caused about 50K of damage). In another case a young child set fire to a Gurdwara building. There was a survey done on church fires in the USA between 1995 and 1996 and only 20 (out of 73) black church fires had an element of racism (nine of the church fires had black suspects named). So although it may appear that it is down to racism, it is not always the case. During an 18 month period there were fires at 75 white churches and 73 black churches. During a six year period there were 248 arson attacks on white churches and 161 at black churches. Some cases involved firefighters setting fire to churches which they then helped put out. Other culprits include drunk teenagers, burglars etc. 157879 fateh ji i dont think you have taken the time to quite read the posts, this has nothing to do with fires involving kacheras and electric heaters, the point to note is that someone poured kerosene around the gurudwara , to me it sounds like they wanted to cause damage to the place for a reason. Its not like an attack by a drunk who may pick up a stone and smash a window or hurl abuse at sikhs or even beat someone up, someone has went and got some kerosene and took time to pour it so that damage would be caused.......................... from my knowledge its not drunken teenagers/adults or burgulars typical behaviour unless as it seems it was fuelled by racial motivation Bhul chuk di kima
20. I used to believe in a god. And now I feel like therem is no way he is the way people make him to be. I feel like they are just stories passed down, and sure you're going to tell me about real life accounts. Most stories get twisted around, especially if they've been around for a couple hundred years. I feel more happier knowing that I'm the one in control of my life though. Without having to conform to something, I feel more free and intune with myself. Why am I here you might ask? Dunno. Maybe I'll learn something but I'm not looking for a religion to belong to. 157796 FATEH JI!!!!! SIKHI should be seen as a way of life. You won't feel right following a religion becos you are made to, you have to understand the reasons, and that will come with Gurus Kirpa, normally you gotta have faith in Guru and AKal purakh. First of all for someone who does not belive, you will obviously have already made up you 'defense' on why there isnt a god, but the stories are not always twisted , you must remeber vahe guru can do anything, secondly even if they have been passed down that does not mean they are not true. However i personally wudnt use these accounts as my evidence, i would suggest you start meditating , and naam japna and start by doing a lil bit and increase your time, and see the effect. All i can say is you have to experience it then aLL IS REVEALED , and then you will know for yourself.
21. did anyone see that guy called 'maraz tarlochan das baba ' or somat the other day...................i think he does this kinda thing too, this really annoys me, they of all ppl shud understand these things ..........why do they do it?
