  1. Do not know why ppl are adamant about this or that type of calender calling it nanakshahi - Does any of them starts with the Birth date of Sri Guru Nanak dev ji ? Clear view is that Bikrami calender is Lunar calender and what the guy Purewal proposed and accepted by SGPC first (and till now the back tracking is going masking mockery of the calender , the decision & the Community) and then going on making ammends mindlessly , is Solar calender - Difference being that The Lunar calender considers one rotation of Moon around earth as one month and the Solar Calender considers one rotation of Earth around sun as one year ( yet another is Stellar year which considers period between seeing same stellar (stars) position on horizon from same point of earth as one year - difference with solar year is only a few hours only - but it is more perfect but very less used . Many countries and communities use luni Solar calender too ( where some dyas are celebrated on lunar basis but the calender is Solar ) in our case malady is that the guys at the helm for deciding will never listen to or consult knowledgeable Astronomy Experts and instead will play one upmanship against one another only .If proper experts were consulted before the decision was made ( or even after) the matter would have been solver easily . I REPEAT MY QUESTION - IF THE FIRST DAY OF THE CALENDER DOES NOT COINCIDE WITH THE BIRTH OF SRI GURU NANAK DEV JI OR ANY OTHER IMPORTANT INCIDENT RELATED TO THE LIFE OF THE GREAT GURU, HOW CAN WE CALL IT NANAKSHAHI CALENDER ;BE IT SOLAR ,LUNAR OR LUNI SOLAR ?
  2. Ram Rai is elder brother of 8th Guru & eldest Son of 7 th guru , he was sent to Aurangzeb , on recieving call from delhi ( upon ascention on throne by Aurangzeb) to logically satisfy the Rulers about the Sikhi , its philosophy and the contribution to the society .But Ramrai in his tryst to appease the Political class started giving distorted interpretation of Gurbani and was excommunicated by the &th Guru .He recieved a Jagir from Delhi darbaar ( some villages in Doon valley & about 85 villages in Today's Phagwara Tesil in Punjab . Later on he started his own kind of sectarian teachings and had big following ( also having masands like in Sikh Sangat of the Time ) . In times of 10 th Guru Sahib his masands were so powerful that he was afraid of them and called upon Guru Sahib for help ( during Paonta sahib stay of the Guru Sahib). He was accepted in Sikhi mainstream by Guru Sahib on offering pennance but his followers werenot ( As guru ji Said Ramrai Guru ka , iski sangat bhootni) > After his death and cremation under mysterious circumstances by the main followers , Guru Sahib was called for help by his wife (Punjab Kaur ) and Guru Sahib went to offer condolences & help ( though Ramrai was older in age to 10th Guru Sahib but as per family lineage he was nephew of guru Sahib ) .His followers still gather to celebrate many festivals at Dehradoon , his Dehra is situated at Khurbada Mohalla in the city It is very sad that our Religious leadership has done little to bring them & many others similar sects back into sikhi mainfold ( who indirectly avow thier allegiance with Gurbani 7 Sri Guru Granth Sahib). There are many groups like Vanjaris , Banjaras , Sikligars , peoples aligning with Udasins ( worshipping Sri Chand ji Son of Guru Nanak Dev ji )and many others I have met during touring many parts of central India, Gujrat & Maharashtra while performing my official Job .Even census of such people (or the mainstream Sikhi) is never conducted or tried by SGPC .During National census there guys unknowing state their religion as Hindu ( or the census guys just ask whether one is Christialn or muslim , if answer is no , he on his own writes it as Hindu ) If proper care is taken on this count , Population of Sikhs is not less than 20 % in India so I believe
  3. Can try smaller 2.25 meter half width keski , On the interesting side , during First war in early 20 century , that type of keski being used by sikh soldiers in british army was name fifty ( due to half width )by brits which later on kept getting shorter and nowadays is just a piece of closth app 25cm wide tied below the pugg having contrasting color than the pugg
  4. The problem is present in all faiths , I see many christians in news rue the thin presence in Sunday masses , sale and closures of Churches in west , even muslims personally fear declining trend among youth ( the hardline migration toards ISIS are but miniscule and not representative of majority) . The youth generally drift away at certain age and then come back after realising there is little difference in this or that faith .Only thing we can do is , give our kids proper ubbringing and impart basics of our faith so they can imbibe the tenets and fight the evil effects from outside
  5. Topic of the thread is Santya of Japji Saheb ,going by diversion of topic , lets come to the recent posts - The Missionaries , we call them so ( Actually all pracharaks of Sikhi are missionaries of Baba Nanak ji ) always say this or that is not bani of Guru Gobind Singh ji but none of them has so far stated what they consider as the Bani Authenticated for Creation by Sri Guru Gobind singh , in earnest they should come up with this to remove confusion about their own understanding . They even do not accept Jap Sahib as the authentic bani ( they say it is transdlation of some Strotam in praise of sun )
  6. Bro , please do not waste your time with this guy (savinderpal singh) he and likes of him do not see and follow reason . He says "it is possible " with his statement - it is always funny logic he believes . Gurbani says " sant miley kichu suniye kahiye , mile asant mast (silence ) kar bahiye" .
  7. Further to my prevoius post , Chishti is SEct which Farid ji belonged to , Farooquis are direct descendents of Baba Fari Shakarganj .As far my knowledge , Baba Farid ji was disciple of Khwaja Bakhtiar Kaki , Who in turn was disciple og Gharib Nawaz of Ajmer , Baba Bakhtyar Kaki was based in Hansi , while Baba Farid ji made Pak pattan his Base , after living for a while at Farikot . It is Said he passed on his baton to Hazrat Nizamuddin ( hailing from Badayoon in Present UP ) who established his base at a place near Delhi which is now in Delhi metropolitan area .Alauddin Quadri ,One of the Sons of Baba Farid Ji's sister was also his great disciple , who due to his self discipline was given subtitle as Sabri , made his base at Kaliyar ( Saharanpur District in UP) whose disciple are called Sabris . Sheikh Ibrahim or Shaikh Brahm as described in Janam Sakhi, is not documented as Head of Chishti Sect in history books I read so far . If someone has read please give me the reference of such book , so I may also benefit from it. thanx

  9. Curling of Hair is done by putting some chemicals and tying in curled around some small rolls for a few hours , before curling the hair dresser ( dignified word for barber) has to remove extra lengh of hair by trimming either by cutting or burning with candle , which I consider taboo ( whatever way it is done ) as we are directed to keep body hair in natural form .As in rehitnamas it is said " kesh ohi rakhe " meaning that kesh should be kept as grown naturally , and the same applies to other body hair too .As the spirit of Sikhi says that we should accept our body as given by the Almighty and maintain it as such .Even while making tatoo body hair are to be removed , so even tatooing and other body modifications are taboo for Sikhs too
  10. Is not it sufficient for us that the kalaam under reference here is part of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji , how the context of teachings selected for us by our fifth Guru will change ? We recite Gurbaani with intent to understand the teachings contained in it and try to follow the path ( the way of Life as directed in gurbaani ) shown , and not read it critically as a timer pass
  11. I do take the risk of being dubbed the missionary or nastik , to make my pov here , Are we treating gurbaani like the Hindu ritualistc mantras ( to gain wordly comforts ?) or teaching of A Great Guru Parampara to understand the meaning & purpose of Human life ? It has been clearly mentioned by our great Gursikhs who had the privilage to see & interact with Guru Sahibaan that - GAAYE SUNEY AANKHEY MEECHE PAYIYE NA PARAMPAD , GURU UPDESG JO LAU RIDEY NA BASAIYE ( HEARING , RECITING , CLOSING YOUR EYES - IN THE Name of MEDITATING DOES NOT LEAD TO THE ULTIMATE DESTINATION TILL YOU DO NOT IMBIBE ( & fOLLOW ) THE SAYING OF THE GURU ) - it si said by BHAI GURDAS JI . THE repetitive recitation , if we do many times , understanding and imbibing the meanings and transforming our life in accordance with the Updesh of Guru Sahib ji , will lead us to realise that our problems are but very small , and our ultimate purpose of being Human in this life is far far bigger to rue for these small problems and this way our life f gets changed in tune with the Gurmat . If we think that doing this paath for so many days will be instrumental in getting the Desired , sorry , then we have not understood even the first pauri of Japuji Sahib - where Guru Ji mentions that - HUKAM RAJAAI CHALNA NANAK LIKHIYA NAAL . iF SOMEONE FEELS MY WORDS TOO HARSH , MY APOLOGIES , But please try to understand the lines quoted by me . Daily paath of Sukhmani Sahib gives us mental peace and leads us to ever higher stages of spiritual life , it is not an instruments to achieve worldly desires
  12. Maha nirvaan , parinirvaan , Mahasamadhi are the words used by buddists & Jains to denote the end of worldly life their prominent holy persons
  13. To all members , please do not ridicule the guy , if he was convinced he could have done it without trying to consult the forum , all he needs is reassurance and reasons for not doing, he still has the spirit of Sikhi live in him , and I think we should advise , reassure and support him back to the right way
  14. What you have seen is green , orange & peckoe tea only , which is ready for use in raw or after little processing which does not require adding chemicals . What people usually use is CTC TEA . If my words look unbelievable , plz confirm frm any singh from AKJ or DT
  15. DO YOU SAY I AM INCORRECT HISTORICALLY ? OR THE FACTS PUT IN MY POST ARE INCORRECT?
  16. The normal tea & tealeaves before appearing out kitchens goes through 3 processes - CTC ( Cutting Tanning & Curling processes) - I personally I feel if anyone witnesses the tanning process he will never take atleast black tea or the Indian chai . In the process the tealeaves cut inti small pieces ( like we cut cattle fodder ) and mixed with some chemicals and left in pits to rot ( oxidise ) so it gets the required colour , after a few days the wet leaves are roasted on s;low fire when it gets curled and takes for of grannules ( what we get in packs) & dust normally used in teabags . Like i have explained in another post here , my parents stopped having tea when one Mahapurush during his visit to our house explained it . Bujjer kurehats have been proscribed by our great 10 th Master , and during those days tea was not used in our motherland , it was introduced in India by Brits .
  17. It is nice book in detail describing social and political environment of the time , under which the Great Guru had to function towards motivating and empowering the underprivilaged class to rise and fight to gain the right place in the history .Also reasoning why Guru Gobind singh ji deserves the highest place in the history of India
  18. Can have from Amritsar Sahib - any book store around Darbar Sahib Sp Khalsa Bros , Bhai ChaTTAR SINGH jEEWAN sING OR Bhai JawaharSingh KLripal Singh all are selling online too
  19. Tea , though not defined as taboo item in any rehatnamah , I still feel is no no for us as all it has are rotten leaves of a plant ( many Sants who used to visit our house in my childhood used to say it has " Tambaku di putth" so my parents stopped taking it ) In winter i use many combos of desi chah ( chahta , saunfa , desi chah etc among many names i hear for these .
  20. Yes my family uses chahta & Khalsa Chah , it is very good herbal substitute for tea , Now another substitute in market is herbal concoction available in India under Brandname ORGANIC . It has many combos with Tulsi ( Indian holy Basil ) as main ingredient , with lemon , ginger , green tea , honey lemon etc . I find herbal spicers from Twinnings also very useful - specially CAMOMILLE which is quite soothing with calming effect on brain , specially to be had at the end of day , before bed
  21. Nonsense , this link takes to a commercial site , is it a joke ?
  22. Wonder of Wonders !!!!!! singhs questioning tying darhi to defend cutting of Darhi & hair ? Why skipping the main question - did bhai Taru singh of any of His contemporary singh gave up sikhi saroop to escape the establishment of the time ?
  23. I think you get my point , I really mean , the way these guys are taking for granted , upto any degree, compromise with Kakaars & sikhi rehat is giving wrong message to the next generation and all our efforts to convince them about sikh rehat & importance of kakaars & kesh are going waste
