  1. rKr jee, do you know if sant baba harnaam singh jee's katha is recorded? any of it? because there is very little audio of them online... only one track on gurmatveechar.com
  2. 1st of Vaisaakh as it has been since 1469
  3. What aspect of Chaupai Sahib are you discussing?
  4. if you really need to wear a small dastaar, because of your circumstances, then you can use the pins. if you wear small dastaar because of insecurity about your IMAGE, then that is the first manmat, not the pins. pins are just an affereffect of small dastaar, and small dastaar (in some situations) could be just a symptom of the main problem: INSECURITY.
  5. Visit BCSikhYouth.com and view the gurdwaras in the community directory.
  6. vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!! International Akali jee, if you want to get some knowledge from the sangat you should come to them as a "khaalee bhaandaa." You shouldn't say "I want to get the thoughts of the sangat" with a poll, and then do updesh to the sangat about why they are wrong in your second post. Anyway I agree with you because Guru Sahib's tradition shows that the word "kee" is used but realistically "Kee" and "dee" are the EXACT SAME WORD. Kee is in Hindi, and Dee is in Punjabi. Guru's written word is higher than our small brains' thinking. Guru Sahib only said "aasaa mahalla 1 || Vaar salokaa naal salok bhee mahalay pehlay kay likhay tunday asraajae KI dhunee || " In this sentence Guru Sahib uses "kay" and "KI" so maybe "Asa KI Vaar" is more appropriate. for example in our Fatheh we say "Vaaheguroo jee kee fatheh" because GURU SAHIB wrote it this way. We don't use "dee" in that. If you do a search on SriGranth.org for "kee vaar" in punjabi, you will find that there are 13 vaars in Guru Granth Sahib called something "kee vaar" Bahaagrae Kee vaar, Ramkali kee vaar, Basant kee vaar, Vadhans kee vaar, etc. so it just makes sense that Asa dee vaar would be called Asa kee vaar. However if somebody says "Asa dee vaar" instead of "Asa kee vaar" they are *NOT* distorting Gurbani (because the words "Asa Kee Vaar" were never written in Gurbani) therefore i think it is *NOT* a beadbi. It just might not be traditionally accurate. please forgive my mistakes vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaavaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!!!!!
  7. vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh!!!! khalsa jee, there are so many wonderful resources out there but the problem is that we don't have "sikh public relations officers." i mean, in the USA, mayeb SALDEF (formerly SMART) was doing something but their mission is a little bit different now and there isn't really an international Sikhi promotions organization that can bring all of the wonderful things from around the world to the Sikhs that need it. I'm telling you there are soooo many .. like *THOUSANDS* of Sikhs out there who have no idea that SikhiToTheMax even exists... and they would love it ... Just like that there are many things that we don't know about but that's what these forums are for. We should go out there and find the real resources and share them with the youth so that they can be more accessible and more frequently used. Examples are Isher Micro Media, and SikhiTotheMax, and SikhNames.com, and the Dastaar Videos on EktaOne.com, and those type of things. "TeraRoop11" jee if you want to PM me with your mailing address I can send you a copy of the book. The video is on www.khalsa.tv Simarjit Kaur bhainji will have a website for her writings soon. I totally agree with "Long live the khalsa" jee. Starting things on a grassroots level is great. Like in BC we have so many little programs, in houses, at the gurdwara, just a group of people, and it really helps them in their Sikhi. It might not be a big event, there might not be a lot of publicity, but it helps people in their Sikhi and it is chardee kalaa. These type of events are priceless. Having Sikhi events is not all about PR. I think our community has been doing the wrong type of PR in the past 20 years. We promote Gurdwara Committees and big keertanis coming here for 10 days, and we make a big fuss over those things -- but we don't help the human rights organizations, or the people that are doing seva for 1984 Shaheed's families, or the people that are spending days and nights writing books for the Sikh panth. Those people don't bring money into the Gurdwaras golaks so they don't get publicity. But we need to publicize those efforts and stop putting so much effort into promoting the big-name keertanis (no disrespect to those that are chardee kalaa, but many of them are fooling us). please forgive my mistakes vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaavaaheguroojeekeefathehhhh!!!!!!!!!!
  8. vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaavaaheguroojeekeefatheh!!!!!!!!! vaaheguroojeee, thanks for your post. i agree with you. but i think we should think about what kaarajs have been started by gurmukh pyare throughout the world and do we give them the support that they need. many of us in the sikh community have habit of reinventing the wheel because we don't want to help the other party due to politics. i will give three examples but there are actually many many examples. now look at UNITED SIKHS. overall it is a far more efficient organization than many out there. they did seva after the tsunami in south asia, they did seva in new orleans, they are doing seva in pakistan. they started the womens seva campaign, they started the right to turban campaign in france, and they are doing camps in punjab. you should support this group by doing seva with them and making their work more effective. (unitedsikhs.org) then look at Bibi Simarjit kaur ji who wrote Saffron Salvation. that book is such an amazing book and such an amazing inspiration to thousands of people. now her book is not even known by many youth and whatever young people read it they will understand what happened in 1984 to the sikh community. Now Bibi Simarjit Kaur ji is in India and she is doing seva with a group called Taran which helps poor people. They are doing real seva there. You should support this organization. (taran-web.org) Look at Dr. Sukhpreet Singh Udhoke and his group GURSIKH and Shahbaaz Khalsa. They are doing real work in India to combat against the anti-panthic forces and create global education about the Sikh heritage and scriptures. They made such an amazing video Jabhe Baan Laagiyo and they are working on many projects like that. They can use support of the sangat to be stronger and do more parchar and seva. There are organizations like this around the world that are doing real seva to help the youth. Khalsa Camp UK, Gur Aasra Trust, Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council, Guru Nanak Academy, Gurmat Studies Foundation, Khalsa Aid, and so many more. These organizations are started by Gursikhs and Gursikhs are doing seva from their heart in these organizations to help the youth. If we support them and help them to grow then we can get more done. just my opinion please forgive my mistakes vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!!!!!!!
  9. Aah! Can always trust Navdeep Singh veerjee for the answer

  11. just in case anybody is wondering Sikh_Singh_khalsa is not looking to put the fanatic indian cult RSS on his website he is talking about really simple syndication which lets people get data from other websites and have it on your website dynamically updated as they update their website. err.. how to do it easiest way to put rss feeds into your website is to use Dreamweaver 8 and take the tutorials and go to macromedia.com and learn how to do it they have made really simple even simpler :TH:
  12. thhir ghar baiso har jan pyaarae satgur thum kae kaaj savaarai vaaheguroo vaaheguroo vaaheguroo vaaheguroo vaaheguroo vaaheguroo
  13. vaaheguroojeeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!!!!!!! if it is okay with you bhainjee i don't have any talent but i would be happy to do any seva in a project like this. it is a great idea. i'm sure you can e-mail gurmat studies foundation and they would probably like to support and idea like this too. vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!!!
  14. Japman Singh i was really surprised how in the other thread you said you brush your teeth twice a day.. I never noticed.. Anyway this is such an awesome question. Thank you "daas" jee for posting this question. This question MIGHT JUST bring the quality of sikhsangat posts up from to @ This is the mistake that so many Western people make. They say "It's all about love. Make love not war." but what kind of love? their definition of Love is Kaam. Whereas Gurmat definition of Love is Prem. Prem is putting yourself aside for the other person. Becoming one with the other. Destroying your sense of self, your ego, for the other person. Prema-bhagti is the ultimate love. Getting rid of your ego to be one with akaal purakh. please forgive my mistakes vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!!!
  15. especially in the new york / boston area there are many social service organizations that can help new immigrants to learn job skills please go to www.unitedsikhs.org and contact them for assistance also please keep in touch on this forum, continue to post and you will get good advice from other gursikhs please also post your questions on www.tapoban.org and www.sikhiunleashed.com you will get a wide range of advice from different age gursikhs across the world now, about your professional training - you need some type of professional trade or certificate trades is good because you become a professional in one sector and you can open a business in that sector (woodwork, plumbing, etc.) then there is technology like Oracle DB, web related work, computers, engineering, programming - those programs take longer and they are slightly more difficult for long-term earning potential, you must consult some immigration consultants, employment consultants, and some professional gursikhs in the new york, DC, buffalo, new jersey area (northeast USA). you can get gursikh contacts from www.unitedsikhs.org - contact them for help. whatever you do - keep faith in guru sahib - don't give up your sikhi never trim your beard or cut your kes, never drink alcohol or take drugs. American green card is not worth more than Dasmesh Pita's blessing. too many gursikhs came to USA and became patit do not lose your sikhi for a few american dollars.
  16. actually, kaur_khalistani_lioness bhainjee, i got both of these links from google i think you have to search for the right terms i searched for "disability childrens books" and "disability childrens literature" and "disability childrens picture book" stay in chardee kalaa jee vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!
  17. Bhai Parminder Singh ji used to say any seva is seva that Guru ji would be happy with you doing - and that you do without any desire for anything back. It should be Nishkaam seva. It can be gupt but it doesn't have to be gupt (i.e. punj pyare, katha, keertan) but it should be with 100% devotion and ZERO (0) ulterior motives. Many other gurmukhs have said that when you do Simran with 100% devotion and ZERO (0) ulterior motives, then you don't just help yourself but your sangat helps others and in this way you can really help the spirits of many people and that is why simran is the best seva. please forgive my mistakes
  18. vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!! I think you are right Harmeet Singh veerjee. A Sikh should not cheat their country, but first they should never cheat their fellow Sikhs. A Sikh can be loyal to their country and be proud of their country - but their main allegiance should be to Akaal Purakh. A Sikh should never bow to any flags or PMs other than Nishaan Sahib and Guru Granth Sahib. A Sikh should be loyal to Sikhi first, then country. A Sikh should follow Sachee Sarkaar first, then jhootee dunyaavee sarkaar. A Sikh should live by laws of Gurmat first, and if the national laws are within the Gurmat laws - then follow them. If they are against gurmat, then fight them. please forgive my mistakes vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!
  19. vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!! guru nanak dev ji has taught us not to do "haraam" which means to live off of somebody and then steal from them. your country has given you rights and freedoms, and if you try to destroy your country, you are doing "haraam" therefore all Sikhs have a responsibility to be loyal to their country to the extent of gurmat. if their country is doing something against gurmat, their first and ultimate allegiance is to the "flag of the khanda" in guru gobind singh sahib jee's dasam bani, in kabyo baach bayntee chaupaee, guru jee says: "KHARAG KAYTH MAI SARAN THIHAAREE." Kharag = Khanda Kayth = Flag-bearer Mai Saran Thihaaree = I am under your protection. So our supreme allegiance is to Akaal Purakh. But in the worldly stage, within the laws of gurmat, we should not cheat our own country (for example we should not do fraud against our government). Being in the army is not always the right thing to do because most wars these days are for oil, money, power - and NOT for protection of innocent people. please forgive my mistakes vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!!
