  1. exactly. I think they were under British rule too long in Africa, and compromised their rehit. I mean even those who have taken Pahul wear these starch topis. They also compromised their rehit by super-fixo'ing up their darhis, and I have seen this has resulted in their grandchildren in uk just trimming their beards to achieve a similar look! It's a shame they kept these anti-rehit looks even after leaving the angrej army.... Also it wasn't just the men, when the women came to uk they were seen as notorious for having haircut and drinking according to the indian sikh aunties last century - and the families related to the starched pagh walay were seen as being overly-liberal. So compromising the pagh and turning it into a starch topi was just the start, this lead to a downward spiralling of values for both genders while they were living under the gora masters, overly-liberal adharmik values. In the 2000s it used to shock me seeing Hi5 and Facebook family pictures with fathers and sons with starch pagh and fixo'ed up darhis and with the daughters dressed all nanghi and trashy. Although it's no longer shocking in the 2020s as sikh families have become desensitised somewhat, actually who am I kidding - it is still shocking to see a sardar family like that put up public photos, the SHAME!
  2. I was contracting at M&S Office Stockley Park in 2018. The muslmaans would always force halal resturant for group outings, including even the christmas outing. So obviously I never went. There were also a few wimpy haircut sikh guys who would go hookah/shisha with them as well. Wimpy as in not strong in sikhi culture. Gurus have made us dangerous, keep Chandi Di Vaar and Dasam bani to make us khatarnaak when required. Back in the late 80s and early 90s I was starting school in Slough. There were loads of Pakistanis in primary school. There was none of this extremism in adults either. Just like punjabi sikhs, Pakistanis were busy working and probably doing overtime shifts. It is unfortunate that we haven't been able to promote sikhi and gurmukhi after that period, just still too focussed on work. Look at how many musulmaan know quraan or arabic. Apnay became a joke, kept on the work and make money mentality. In my pend mallian in Kartarpur Jallandar, the few muslims are known as telis or tehlis, apparently that is meant to be their caste related to Oil. I mean they are friendly and no sign of extremism from them.
  3. but I think the point of starching the pagh is to shape it so as to use it as a topi.
  4. here https://www.instagram.com/dalpanthnewyork/?igshid=1vzvduthj7bcu&hl=en here are Singhs who actually follow rehit. you don't want to take pahul from many of the modern organisations and jathebandis, trust me!
  5. "new iphone is coming out, need to buy it" is the mantra!
  6. can you speak english, or maybe punjabi?
  7. actually this new one is decent, I wonder what everyone thinks?
  8. ? can the forum make a decision on the next banner, just put a temporary banner in place and let the SANGAT choose?
  9. midweek update 13th May Banner is still there. I make sure I keep it out of view when I am checking this site. I wonder what's going on?
  10. I don't know the requirements for being a granthi. But from a video uploaded by Bhai Jagraj Singh, the requirements for keertani seem really poor. Seems like some gurdwaras just try and use the same person who does the paat learn some keertan, so basically doing it on the cheap. I don't think most gurdwaras care if you're a raagi, as long as you can do some tunes on a harmonium even bollywood bhangra tunes, this is probably enough. Most gurdwaras don't seem to have the resources to train up proper raagis, and definitely don't usually have raag suitable instruments available. you should see how many shaster are kept in a kammarkasa, a sikh is supposed to keep many shaster.
  11. eww are you trying to hurt our eyes? what was the decision making process and design making process?? was there a poll on the forum for the new banner?
  12. what the ?!*# happened to the banner on top. It really hurt my eyes, like the site got hacked by LGBTQ+ or something????? ?? Please send me which page in Dasam Granth? There used to be a really nice dasamgranth website a few years ago before their database went down. There's some other decent ones but that site I always always used. It was similar to this but with English translations: http://www.sridasam.org/ the sikhitothemax interface I don't like but it seems ok. and searchgurbani.com is poor at searching in english! Also read that in Adi Guru Granth Sahib before, about dressing in an attention way, someone posted it in a forum few months back. Can you please point towards the correct ang?

Soorma Singh (he/him) - Sikh YouTuber and social media influencer. Discussion points: What does Sikhi (Gurbani & Rehat) actually say about people who identify with LGBTQ or straightness? What is the current status of LGBTQ & straight people in the Sikh community? Does the idea of an Anand Karaj among LGBTQ peoples conflict with Gurbani? // What type of Straight Anand Karaj does not conflict with Gurbani? What are some unique struggles that LGBTQ Sikhs go through? // What are some shared struggles between queer and trans Sikhs and Straight and cisgender Sikhs? What are some ways we can help LGBTQ Sikhs? // What are some ways straight and cisgender Sikhs can stop harming LGBTQ Sikhs? Time: 12 pm PST, 3 pm EST, 8 pm BST, 12:30 IST.
  14. What do sikh families have to say when the girls are dressed like nangi. So even when queer or LGBTQ+, the men dress sensibly and the girls have to do their behzti with the way they dress, no one at home to give them a thapar?? And then the girl in the 1st vid and the man in the 2nd, they need to come out as bi? Why? What is the point in coming out as bisexual when it shouldn't stop you from having a grihast jeevan? Coming out as bisexual sikh is nonsense!
  15. we are going to need multiple wives as well then. We will have to marry outside sikh girls as there won't be enough etc etc I am sure during yudh times Singhs married outside sikhs and made them sikhnis as well. A good example is the women that were saved from the Afghans.
  16. it is some maryada gotten from Gurbilas patshahi 6vi. However The posters above me have also mentioned it is a kachi lassi
  17. I am sure when sikhs and other people used to get married young, ie their teens - then their kaam didn't get to levels where they needed to "EXPLORE" their sexuality that is now in the media to the this gay culture. You got married and saw your partner for the 1st time when you were going to start your marital partnership, you didn't have a choice of what they looked like - but at the same time you were young and still growing mature so were able to adapt. It was not really anything to do with heterosexuality or homosexuality, it was more to do with having a grihast jeevan and following the dharam of family life. Now heterosexuals are also diseased in the mind not just homosexuals, the ages we are getting married at are causing us to become slaves of 5 vikaar including LUST and EGO. We bring so much lust and ego into choosing marital partners now, oh and a lot of people are bringing GREED into choosing marital partners as well.
  18. Unless a Khalsa sikh, other sikhs would get married under different traditions. There weren't many Adi Guru Granth Sahib saroop during Guru Sahibs times, and they were all hand-written. It doesn't seem any ceremony called Anand Karaj existed before last century, some of the terms that did exist were Anand Viyah. So I don't feel how it is Kurahit....
  19. LGBTQ+ or whatever is no excuse for sikh girls to dress that way, what a bad example to dress for sikhs on tv. the queer sikh guys there are covered up. And then the bisexual sikh girl. I really don't see the point in a sikh coming out as bisexual, unless for doing manmat things like dating and promiscuity. Bisexuality doesn't stop any sikh from being able to fulfil grihast jeevan, so. it's a nonsense thing for a sikh to come out as!!! Who you mean Pankaj Dheer and Puneet Issar? LOL anyway the Star Plus version few years back wasn't that good I heard.
  20. we really need to discuss the origin of modern Anand Karaj by SGPC last century. The fact that there weren't enough saroop of Adi Guru Granth sahib to do Fereh this way isn't discussed. I would create a topic but I feel that this forum is not the right place, due to jatha beliefs of admins...
  21. yes there are versions containing Ugardanti and some without. The printing press version as standardised by Soday committee with Ugardanti removed, EVEN THOUGH Ugardanti is an important nitnem bani in traditional sampradaiye including Budha Dal, Tarna Dal, Akali Nihang Singhs. You probably won't even hear Ugardanti from SGPC and their rehit maryada!
  22. they had to accommodate Singhs during world wars, we need to demand the same type of support now for the frontline! I haven't used twitter in so long, I had no idea they had removed the word limit!
  23. serious what is this list about? why are no keertanis, parchariks including Basics of Sikhi and no dhadis on there? I am talking about under 30s. and they put non-sikhs on there, how do we make a mass complaint?
