  1. But imo I think people from amritsar tend to look more like their neighbours from the other side of the border!
  2. Could be, I'm from doaba too and always used to be mistaken for a muslim, I got so fed up of it that it was one of the reasons why I stopped cutting my hair lol It was worse because even punjabis used to think I was a muslim, it actually depressed me! There must be some link ...
  3. That's the type of wife that everyone wants lol A punjabi girl started working with me, she was polite, soft spoken, loved reading etc and then she told me she drinks and parties lol
  4. It's the dancing ones they removed there were only 2 dancing ones. They have a massive maharaja ranjit singh one which is fine, and they also have a sculpture outside jallianwala bagh of suffering. But I do remember a few statues of politicians! Not sure who they are.
  5. LMAO I agree though people have become far more too liberal, even the aunties have. I dont know when this started happening. I remember back in the 90s things were still strict and traditional. I remember back in the 90s a woman having her hair out was looked down at especially at the gurdwara, my mum really used to frown upon it, how times have changed! I think post 2000 there was a big cultural shift. Not sure how this happened and who started it. Do you remember how shocked everyone used to be when they used to hear about someone getting divorced in the neighbourhood/community. Even love marriage was looked down at and parents used to hide the fact their kids had a love marriage.
  6. interesting stuff maps showing different religions just before partition. We are lucky we got what we got! most of majha and doba was muslim majority at the time! even in amritsar and tarn taran the sikh/hindu combined population was just about higher than the muslim population. if it wasnt for amritsar and tarn taran having less muslims, perhaps the whole of majha and doaba would of gone to pakistan? Amritsar/tarn taran were like a hindu/sikh enclave surrounded by muslim majority areas. I think hadn't it been for amritsar half of present day east punjab would of been in pakistan. malwa on the other hand was the sikh strong hold with sikhs making majority of the population in most areas of malwa, with hindus making the biggest population in ludhiana, moga, mukhtsar etc judging by these maps a lot more muslims were left on the wrong side of the border than Sikhs/hindus were how did sikhi spread like that in malwa? i know that Guru Gobind Singhji spent a lot of time there ... Punjab 1941
  7. In the photo of the sadhoo and bhaman standing in front of the mandir there is a painting of guru nanak dev ji just above painting of krishna.
  8. the colour ones amazing seeing Punjab in colour over a 100 yrs ago! it weird seeing the lahore photos, hard to imagine such a strong sikh/hindu presence there once upon a time. in one of the photos its a aghori! hard to imagine a aghori smeared in ash walking around lahore so openly, but thats how it was once indians themselves are to blame for all these once dharmic lands being snatched away
  9. i just read the charitar again and it starts of describing how sikhs from all over used to come to anandpur sahib to seek blessings. and then it says that a married woman (anoop kaur) came to anandpur sahib.
  10. yh it looks very mixed in the old photos. during the sikh empire the line between sikhi and hindu culture was very blurred, and this continued to the early 20th century. i was looking at a drawn map of harmandir sahib complex during maharaja ranjit singhs time and harmandir sahib had a area for cows on the edge of the sarovar, theres even a british water colour painting of harmandir sahib with a cow standing by the sarovar. then singh sabha and all the other reformers came about and did their thing.
  11. I have one as well i had to go to the some visa center in hounslow though to give the finished application to them. Woman at the desk was b1tch and i ended up arguing with her. it looks like a passport. its useful for property and stuff like that, my dad also made a thing called adhaar card for me not sure what that is though lol
  12. Guru Nanak Dev jis house in Sultanpur Lodhi, Punjab. also a puratan khoo and some medieval coins.
  13. Lol but you cant deny that it's very possible that it could be a sikh woman as well.
  14. Theres more chances of seeing me dead than me going down on one knee with a ring, waiting for a yes or a no. With me it will just be straight up "let's get married now"
  15. bibi is becoming more and more popular lol
  16. even the collapse of the sikh empire has a lot to do with sikh turning against sikh, less trust among sikhs. Yeah hindus did a lot of dodgy stuff and the goreh did too, but we overlook the fact that their was a lot of conflict between sikhs in the empire. During the empire there had always been 2 or 3 opposing parties within the empire. the hindus and goreh just filled the cracks and took advantage. like the sandhwalia sardars, cousins of ranjit singh, were always plotting the fall of ranjit singh. Sher Singh waged war against kharak singhs widow who briefly became empress when kharak singh and their son died. nauhihal singh along with other sikhs took his own father kharak singh of the throne so he could have it for himself, kharak singh was later poisoned to death. even ranjit singhs wife, daughter of sada kaur was plotting against ranjit singh along with her mother because sada kaur wanted her grandson sher singh to become king next but ranjit singh chose kharak singh to become the next king instead, at one point sada kaur and her daughter even sought british assistance to bring ranjit singh down but were caught out. Near the later years there was so much turmoil and unrest among the many divisions that the army decided to take over and started running the empire. the powerful sardars of various elite families were constantly plotting and planning against one another. then all a sudden rani jind kaur gives power to her brother and he was later executed by sikhs who were against him. another divide was between ranjit singh and sikhs like akali phoola singh, both with different ideas of how the empire should run. the whole history of the sikh empire is full of conflict and turmoil the goreh got wind of what was going on in the empire, we've always done our dirty laundry out in the open, and they got the bhamans on their side ...
  17. coloured photos taken in 1914 by albert kahn amazing coloured photos of Punjab dharshan deori flower seller at harmandir sahib pilgrims gurdwara dera sahib lahore wish these pics of gurdwara dera sahib were more clear hindu people lahore
  18. true but it still doesn't mean that anoop kaur was a non Sikh.
  19. Even if the story is true then it really isn't any different to the women of the women of kaamroop and assam who tried to seduce Guru Nanak Dev Ji would it? Or Kalyug offering Guru Nanak Dev ji all worldly pleasures and comforts. Guru Jis came across murderers, thugs, rapists, even family members that were traitors, so whats so hard to believe about them coming across loose women of the time? How the male reacted in the story of anoop kaur is how every sikh male should respond if he finds himself in a similar situation.
  20. thanks for the video. It really does help you concentrate, I'm thinking of getting a kara with beads as well
  21. Theres a brown guy on love island lol nas majeed none of the women chose to couple up with him though! But he got his first kiss on the show recently.
