  1. LOL your totally missing the points I made especially point number 1.
  2. The whole 2020 referendum is a scam and it will not result in anything why ? here's why? 1) GOI will not just hand over Punjab? it will keep it any cost as its bordering state with Pakistan 2) Pakistan supports this referendum and Khalistan for its own purpose so it can use Khalistan to get closer to New Delhi 3) India will want to keep all its states and land intact, it will fight tooth and nail for it, just look at the Kashmir conflict. India will flight China over parts of Sikkim 4) The best chance for Khalistan was I 1947 than 1980's. Now it's a dead movement which has been revived but its nothing more than A zombie 5) Whether we like it or not India is a major player in Todays world. The UK, USA want to keep India sweet as they want good trade deals. They are not going to fully support Khalistan, Russia will fully support India. 6) Instead of focusing on Khalistan we should focus on improving Punjab. More jobs, a better education system. more urbanisation, basically making Punjab to living standards in the west. 7) We should have the aim of doing parchars across India to increase the number of Sikhs.not forcefully but by choice. Hinduism is on the decline. 8.Point number 6 may sadly maybe unrealistic, 10 even 20 years from now we could be having the same discussion but matters might be worst. so what can we do ? we need to set realistic year on year targets what can be achieved then work from there. The main thing to see a change in a short time and not this waiting around planning 2-4 years for a referendum that will have little or no impact. waiting hoping and shouting Khalistan slogans is all that's been done and what effect has it had . do you want this to carry one for the next 10 20 even 40 years ?
  3. you should go. You don't need to pray or anything, you can just sit at the prayer room (they usually have comfortable seats at the sides) you don't even need to sit down on the floor. Typically it very casual atmosphere with bhajan etc the old ladies will be singing along while kids will be running around. They may look at you, you just need to smile and give them the thumbs up and they will leave. You have the teen boy who attends a function in a Mandir with the sole aim in pulling a fit girl. Typically you will overhear conversations like ("yo Ramesh dat girl in the Pink saree is well penk man. wait till we get to the langer hall ") ohh you always have the token white guy who is always curious you might approach you and ask you stupid questions.
  4. LOL. Sikhism will have elements of Hinduism as its a Dharmic faith along with Jainism, Buddhism. There is nothing wrong with having elements similar to Hinduism in Sikhism. Hinduism is not the devil's religion lead by the devil (who in this case are Bhramins ) lo,l Sikhism was born form Hinduism Bhakti tradition with the idea of adapting to modern times with equality, equal rights at the forefront. Sikhism did not completely change for Hinduism it adapted incorporated the good elements of Hinduism while eliminating outdated practices and the cast system. Hinduism ( which is not even the official name of the faith ) is has been around for a very long time so it would have outdated practice, views etc. over the years the faith has been distorted with all this other belief system. You can interpret the faith in many ways. 1)its a way of life, not a religion 2) it a collection of different small religions that have been forced under a generic umbrella (Hinduism ) Back to present day Sikhism No if all were to have the same mindset to wipe all Hindu elements Sikhsims would be a different religion. There would be no Kirtan, No Langer, No prasad, , the whole afterlife belief would be completely different by not believing in Mukhti etc.
  5. reply from my friend directed towards you. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- given that Dhan Dhan Baba Namdev Ji Maharaj were from Maharastra, there is nothing wrong with any Punjabi marrying someone whose parents are Hindu's from Maharashtra. It's only if the daughter cannot explain to her Maharasthran husband that all Maratha people are natural born Sikhs due to Dhan Dhan Baba Namdev Ji Maharaj's example that a problem arises. Many indigenous Maratha Sikhs from Dalit backgrounds too. That's her fault if her belief in Sikhi is not pukka enough to encourage natural born Sikhs (the people of Maharashtra) back into the fold. Mundan is clearly nonsense. But again the problem is not the marriage but the fact we are not encouraging new spouses into Sikhi to widen the Sikh Panth's ability to do seva for Sarbat da Bhala. Because we don't realise that mixed marriages are inevitable when 99.7% of the global population are non-Sikhs and fail to welcome erstwhile non-Sikhs into the fold via Sangat and education.
  6. a friend who visits this site but does not have an account kindly asked me to post this on his behalf. I fully agree with this views -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No wonder this is happening. When the average Sikh cannot explain with pyaar to our Brahmin brethren that Dhan Dhan Shaheed Bhai Mati Das Ji and Dhan Dhan Shaheed Bhai Sati Das Ji are among the bravest Gurmukhs of Sikh history then the fault clearly lies with us as a community failing to do parchar. Brahmins are 40 million strong and could come to the fold of Sikhi if only we ditch bashing them as 40 million people (most of whom are not anti-Sikh) with terms like Brahminwaad (when the correct term would be Manuvadi soch or Hindutva RSS agenda) and educate them about our shaheeds and notably the 7 erstwhile (Sharma) Amritdhari brothers from Patiala who laid down their lives before Indira Gandhi's tanks at Sri Harmandir Sahib in 1984. Sikhi isn't passed down by genes. It is passed on via conviction of sincere belief. Don't assume that sons not being moneh is an indication of true Sikh belief (as the Ganesh pooja illustrates). Given that most Kashmiri Sikhs are of Brahmin ancestry can we not stick to terms like Manuvadi soch or Hindutva RSS thinking? Otherwise it is inevitable that a community being bashed by Sikhs will react against labelling them as the root of all problems. The Panj Piare were from south India, Gujarat, Orissa, Uttar Pardesh and Pakistan but if we can't explain that to the resident populations there (as we lack knowledge ourselves) then clearly increasing assimilation is inevitable. All of India are natural born Sikhs if only we explain Sikhi and truth of equality, justice and seva that it represents
  7. I work in retail too. it's not as easy as people think its hard work and requires good multi-tasking skills. Typically our people in England have top jobs like account, Finance Consultant, Lawyer, IT consultant. etc and it all adds to this so-called status which you get judged on. If your not a white-collar worker working in an office then they look down at you, I get that at times when relatives ask me what I do. My job does not mean I am not educated as they may think. I have 2:1 bsc hons degree in computing, Prince 2 project management certification etc . yeah in an ideal world I would be working as IT consultant/Project manager for top blue chip company earning a yearly salary of £35000-40000 per year (the ideal Punjabi lad) lol but instead I work a grind for £8.20 an hour.(that's with a pay rise for my hard work) lol, I did have an IT support job back in 2009 as part of my placement year for my degree which went horribly wrong. I have also done some IT support work back in 2013 which again I did not enjoy and was not given much work to do. I have had tons of job interviews for IT consultancy roles, banking jobs etc some went well while others were not so good. The whole job search after graduations has been soul destroying. But none the less I remain positive, I am doing a teaching course and hopefully, I can become a teacher early next year. Job title is the 1st question potential in-laws will ask in our community if you earn less then your partner then everyone will be quick to point out that your living off your wife and eating her money which in most cases is not true. In today's world is not uncommon for the wife to be earning more than her husband. In sum don't let your job measure your success, their is much more to life then work, career etc.
  8. 1) Good question. I think it would be great if all Indian would unite al hold a mass protest for the victims of 1984. I class it as terrorist attack by the Indian govt and RSS/Hindu extremists. But I do not think you can blame the whole Hindu community . Many Hindu actually helped sikhs during The attack on sikhs in Dehli 1984. 2) A sikh state prior to 1947 might have worked out well. It would have been a Hindu majority but like the Sikh Empire model all faiths would have had equal rights with Amritsar being given special religious status. The country would have no extreme poverty , fully developed economy basically Punjabi would have archived what they have abroad in there own nation.so yeah you could fully argue the wrong decision was made to join India. 3) @jkvlondon you seriously have some extremist views . How can you blame and put all Hindu's under one carpet? Not all Hindus are even Indian. going back to point 1 some Hindu actually siding with the Sikhs. Not all hands are the same. your Holy then thou attitude will not get you anywhere. On the Brahmin subject which you seem to love how do you define a barmin in todays world ? is it by the name (surname) ? If so then I Am brahmin to you accordance and follow the same generic traits as a brahmin. let me do a checklist 1) Red dot on forehead . No, No red dot . 2) Dhoti . Umm no I am wearing Nike joggers does that count ? 3) Have superior atitude thinks I am better then everyone because of my cast . No NO NO . I dont believe in the cast system in the 1st place. So I am not a Brahmin Not really a hindu despite having a Brahmin Surname. Now If you talking about Brahmin as i have defined above then I would say yeah they are selfless people who only care about themselves and how superior they are. I have no time for them .
  9. well he is decent for mid championship level . I think despite that we will keep him on as he loves he clubs and will be good to have around the dressing room.
  10. Another Sikh sportsman Is Danny Tanveer Batth who is the captain of my Team Wolves. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Batth
  11. I am sorry to hear about your Mamaji. I did not know that these things happened in the Indian army. Based on what I have been told while in India it was positive. The Indian army cheif was a Sikh so i always kind of thought Sikhs had high authority in the Indian army. which they rightfully deserve for sacrifices they have made . I dont think young educated people young India are sheep. I think they are too scared to speak up as the could be locked up or face police brutality. Indian govt especially under Modi does not allow freedom of speak or expression. in anycase I have not been to India in over 7 years. I am not patriotic towards India but still feel I have connection to the country(especially Puniab based on my background) its abit of odd one. I would like India to stay united but where all faith are equal abit like the US/UK model. I guess thats a piple dream. I was born and live in good country (England ) where everyone has great chance to succeed and the Punjabi community has taken it with 2 hands. This is where my focus lies not so much India.
  12. in cricket they earn millions from IPL. India cricket team has 2 Sikhs in its regular starting 11 Shakar Dhawan (India best opener ) Jaspit Bumrah (Supposedly the best death bowler in international cricket ) I dont rate him thou. leaks runs Not sure about Virat Kohli I have been to India cricket matches at Edgebaston Birmingham and I see many Sikhs with Dastar's who support India. Young and old . They wear the India jersey too. I bet @JKLondon blood pressure must rise when watching this on TV, I guess Sky sports will be banned at the @JKLondon household this summer lol.
  13. They have a choice they are not forced to join the Indian army. Its usually a family thing which is passed down in generations. I agree I would not recommend joining any army fighting in meaningless political wars. However The sikhs in the Indian army are well respected. , you ask any Indian in India and they will say Sikhs are the shield, of India, They respect them fully. Dont base you whole views based on the Indian govt or far right Hindu extremists. THEY DO NO REPRESENT THE WHOLE OF INDIA/INDIANS. No one would like to see a a solider being killed and sent home in coffin inspective of religion/country etc. If they do then they are twisted. I think you have blind hate towards Hindu/India. I can understand and fully back your hate for Indian govt (I hate them aswell) but not the nation. India has many faults but it does have its good points. India does have good people who have nothing but respect and admiration for Sikhs. To really know India you need to go out and see it for yourself and not just base your views on what you hear in media or the Indian govt.
  14. 1) Remove the Hindustan Tag from India. 2) build new homes for the homeless, Develop shanty towns In a clean suburbanised housing estate 3) Invest in Infrastructure, i.e better roads, dust management 4) Introduce strict health and safety relegations at the workplace 5) Introduce work place pension and mimim wage 6) Make more deals with direct foreign investment(i.e high brand retailers, car manufactures etc) 7) Free schooling for those up to aged 18 8 )cast system will be fully outlawed 9) death penalty for rapists 10) Unban beef ban 11) Give Amritsar special status as its a holy city. 12) Deport the Badals out of India
  15. I can fully understand were you coming from.Whats important is your health and mental state. Do whatever it takes to get yourself in a good happy place dont pressure yourself into work if your unhappy at work it will make it worst . Get all the help you need. In time everything will workout fine as you have Waheguru on your side. When it comes to job/careers etc I think there is an added pressure on our community and Most Asians especially in the West as we are judged by the job we have . For example you can be a doctor/IT consultant and you will be considered a great person regardless of who you are as person , If yo have a low end job your not valued much despite being a good person which is just wrong. In my case I graduated with a 2:1 honours degree in computing back in 2011. Since Graduation I have been unable to get IT or any office job. I current work at Waitrose (been there for 8 years now) I earn about £8.20 an hour which is not alot when compared to my cousins and friends etc who have also graduated and our on 32-45k a year. My cousin/aunties/uncles absolutely love bragging about this and try to make me feel small. Honestly I have not time for them. I maybe on low wage and my job may not be great but I work hard and do my job to a great standard. As for the future I am still searching and would like job that has decent pay where I can buy my own house and get married etc. I have had plenty of Interviews last one was for an IT Helpdesk job where over 100 applied and only 20 were interviews I was one of 20 that were interviews but did not get the job. The IT job market is very competitive . I have even applied at banks for customer service roles. I have done voluntary Work IT back in 2013. I did my placement year as part of my degree in 2009 which went terribly wrong as 5 months into my placement the company had finical difficulty adn had to let me go however I volunteered to work for free to gain full credits towards my degree and to gain experience. The company did not give me enough work and most of the time i spent doing nothing for 7 months. I did like it it all and it really put me off the IT/computing. So its been a struggle and at times which me have low self esteem . Since July 2017 I was dealing with anxiety and depression (caused by many other reasons and not just work) I felt low and , tearful at times but now I feel alot better. Hopefully things will get better. I have faith in Waheguru which has got me thought the bad times. Most Important thing i have learnt which we should all apply is that dont compare yourself to others which can be easily done with social media etc we are all on on our pathway to life. focus on your own journey and do what it take be happy .
  16. that might be the case in the old days but todays Sikh/Punjabi want the finest things in life and there gardens are no exceptions, they are well maintained. I think the next step for us Punjabi's would be to invest /buy into the UK farmland. farming/ agriculture is in our blood.
  17. I would say the hardcore fontline Sikhs are immigrants and old uncles with the few youths . Most of the UK lack that traditional shere Punjab vibes. Some can barely speech Punjabi lol
  18. I have also met a few Sikhs in India and even in the UK who follow elements of Hinduism and vist Mandirs when you ask them why they reply back by saying god is one which is fair enough but that contradicts itself as they many gods in Hinduism which have different meanings. There is no harm in learning and incorporating the good elements of Hinduism but its when you incorporate such things as fasting , the cast system and all these other rituals which go against Sikhism. karva chauth is a prime example . its a sexist ritual and does not promote gender equality which Sikhism does yet some Sikhs even in the UK follow this ritual to the T . Its primary a north Indian Hindu thing and even Hindu's from the Gujarati community laugh at this ritual.
  19. Come to Wolverhampton, we have large Sikh/Punjabi population in this city. we have about 7-8 Gudwara's. The majority of Sikhs live in upperclass area's and are well educated holding good jobs. The Muslim population is below average with an even small Hindu population . I am actually surprised there more Hindu's in the UK then Sikh(according to the latest. census) I guess they live in area's like Wembley Leicester etc.
  20. There is really good Gudwara in Jabar Ali . The Sikh population is low in Dubai but there are Sikhs there.
  21. I would say hold more Parchaar's for no Sikhs in different languages so they can understand the true meaning of Sikhism . This way you will attract non Punjabi;s aswell to Sikhism.
