  1. How can you clean the mess if you even don't want to think about it and want to turn a blind eye saying it doesn't affect you. The best way forward is to create awareness ans stop them so that these incidents get buried in history as one-offs rather than setting precedent and becoming a dangerous trend.
  2. We need not align with cowards in any way. Our strength is Ardaas coz akal purakh fulfils it. None great gursikhs of the past aligned with cowards and won wars. Lions take it in themselves and deal with it rather than looking at jackals. So, what happened,? :gg:
  3. True these pakis need to be sorted out for this propoganda but it's our people who need to be sorted out as well. If parents don't teach kids right from young age about their culture and religion and what's right and wrong then obviously they gna end up being sharabis and $luts. Either parents can teach them their values from their religion and culture or they'l imbibe the western values and won't mind having drinking, clubbing, sex having multiple partners etc. So it's the parents who need to be blamed first of all. Secondy, what are gurudawas doing? i guess we need to start some serious parchar from gurdwaras, not just katha and kirtans but also some serious awareness parchar for our youth esp against those muslims etc who target our youth. If Gurdwara Sahib stages can be used for stupid politics then why not for this kind of awareness? We need to mobilise folks through gurdwaras. If we don't tackle this now i m sure we are gonna be serious laughing stock for the world.
  4. Prof Darshan Singh is not from their camp. He might agree with himon certain issues , which a lot of people do but as fas as SGGS Maharaj is concerned Prof Darshan Singh has utmost respect and that's what he's been campaigning for that no other scripture can match Shabad Guru SGGS Ji Maharaj and only those banis that stand the test of SGGS Ji Maharaj should be considered authentic. Whereas Kala Afghana's a govt puppet and his intentions are very clear.
  5. Prior to article i beleieved Kala Afghana was a misguided individual or a twisted mind but after reading this article it's clear to me that he definitely has ulterior motives. Not only has he tried put a question mark in our minds regarding the authenticity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib but also he has DELIBRATELY changed the historic facts. What's even more fishy is that this article came at a time when the entire panth was busy celebrating 300 years of guruta gaddi to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj. This article isn't merely foolish but also has a deep rooted conspiracy attached to it. Typically- Barhmin style. To me it comes as a fresh ideological attack on Sikh Nation, this time on Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Guru Sahibs' jeevans, Banis, Dasam Granth and Amrit all had been attacked in the past and the only thing left was Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Kala Afghana's started a new trend and given a platform to enemies of the sikh panth. Watch out in future who follows suit.
  6. Fantastic Idea !!!!!! I had always wished if we could have a thing like that after having a look at muslim yellow paes. This is one of the reasons that Jews are very siccessful and muslims as well are going down the same route to make their kaum more economically strong. We surely can start from here and take some more leafs out of other kaums' books if we are to achieve our seperate state.
  7. Well Done Bijla Singh Ji !!!!!!! Brother do you have any website or blog where you keep your info for future references.
  8. Hi guys, A few weeks back a topic was posted about social history of ancient hindu india which was taken off by admin. I am debating with a hindu brother and need to teach him his own roots as well apart from Sikhi. Can somebody please post that link again. I would be very grateful. Fateh
  9. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2008/20080829/main4.htm Two undertrial prisoners set Poohla on fire in jail, critical Varinder Walia Tribune News Service Amritsar, August 28 Controversial Nihang chief, Ajit Singh Poohla, facing trial for rape, murder and other heinous crimes was attacked by two under-trial prisoners in the high-security Amritsar Central Jail here today. He was taken to the civil hospital in a critical condition and later shifted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, from where he was referred to the PGI, Chandigarh. Dr A.S.Padda, medical superintendent, said Poohla had received 70 per cent burns in the attack and was in a critical condition. According to sources in the jail, Poohla was attacked by the two youths lodged in the jail. The accused have been identified as Harcharan Singh of Sarai Amanat Khan and Navtej Singh of Batala road, Amritsar. The alleged culprits reportedly took diesel from the generator of the jail and sprinkled it in the cell where he (Poohla) was lodged. Then they threw matchsticks. Both accused were arrested and taken in remand by the police. A case of murder has been registered at Sadar police station. The police said the accused sprinkled diesel on Poohla and then set him on fire. By the time he was rescued by the jail staff, he was badly burnt. DC Amritsar, Kahan Singh Pannu, has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. The police said it was investigating how the accused had managed to obtain diesel in the jail. The motive of attack is not yet clear. The jail authorities have suspended three employees for negligence and a high-level probe ordered by jail authorities. Poohla was lodged in Amritsar Central Jail following the cancellation of his bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in a murder case. He was arrested by the former Congress government led by Amarinder Singh, following agitation by the Majha Ex-Servicemen’s League, led by Col G.S. Sandhu. During the peak of militancy, Poohla was a terror in the border belt of the state. He, however, extended support to the security agencies hence was on the hit list of militants those days. The beleaguered Taruna Dal Nihang chief once enjoyed a high-security cover with 42 official gunmen and 77 sophisticated weapons during militancy. The Nihang chief was again arrested on May 13 this year from Darhewal Kotli village (Ghuman police station) in connection with an old case pertaining to the murder of seven members of the family of Joga Singh of Khanpur village. Earlier, Poohla was arrested on July 29, 2004, from his headquarters at Jhutha Kartarpur, near Baba Bakala, in a joint raid conducted by the Nawanshahr and local police with the active support of ex-servicemen in connection with the murder of Nihang Sukhdev Singh at Mazaar Sayeed Jora Peer Behram in Nawanshahr police district on June 20, 2002. Later, on April 9, 2007, the Beas police again arrested the Nihang leader following a crackdown on his headquarters, gurdwara Damdama Sahib. He was arrested on charges of forcibly ploughing the standing wheat crop belonging to Santokh Singh, a resident of Lakhowal village, a couple of days ago. Chandigarh: Poohla who was brought to the PGI suffered 60 per cent to 70 per cent burns on the face and the chest, according to the doctors. He has also suffered minor burns on his back and left leg.
  10. ^^^^^Didn't you any have better words? Shame on you guys. If this is what 'Sikh Sangat' of today thinks then i can see where Sikhi is going in future. Why do you guys have to mock someone's appearence if you don't want to reason with him. At least Sikhs in this world shouldn't think like this, afterall we ourselves experience race hate also leading to physical attacks solely for our appearence and we are the ones fighting against it. Are these our true colours? And all that see god in everyone is just fake $hit. That's hypocrisy. C'mon guys if you really love sikhi then debate with him logically and not pelt him with such hatred. What's the use of having such true and poora Guru if we still can't take any matt from him. This surely aint the sikhi way. For Sikhs on a Sikh forum to smack of such hatred is shocking for me.
  11. I doubt if rakhrian are a Hindu festivel......they just originated with time out of sheer manmat, i doubt if vedas hold any reference to rakhrian. But anyways, Sikhs advocate not to celebrate it because it is sheer manmat and contradicts the beliefs of sikhism which gives equal respect to women and doesn't create a sense of inferiority that they have to rely on their brothers to help them in need. Women are equally blessed with amrit in sikhism and are taught to live independently like men alike with courage and dignity. As far as Guru Nanak Sahib's photos are concerned they are just fake. You can paint any picture you like that doesn't mean it is a reality. And people suggest Hindu forces are behind it to create cconfusion in minds of sikhs. But it's very reasonable and easy to believe that how can Guru Nanak follow such fake customs of threads when same Guru Nanak had refused to wear Janju. And if at all all he did wear rakhris why are there not instances of other gurus carrying on the same tradition. There is no history of any guru or even Gursikhs sporting rakhis coz not only are they not prescribed but are also anti-gurmat. Hope that helps.
  12. SSA..... Why is it that we are used to looking at the world and its amazing happenings through some glasses of negativity and prejudism.... With commnts like above i feel that there is deep sense of insecurity within us...which is taking away the joy from everything we ought to see as normal occurances of the world. Y do we need to rub of the topiv of Creating Sikh and not Punjabi....this was nt abt any religon or cast...i dont think this represnts messing up of Sikhi...Punjabi Pride is sumthing that unites punjabis from different religons or castes.....sumthing that u r seeing as a hindrance looks like a catalyst to me fo uniting us overlooking any differences. My family watched it with me we had good 5 mins of amusing time.!!!!!! I too had a very nice time watching this video infact i wached it about 3-4 times and yes it was enjoying. But why not discuss more about preaching Sikhism to world an getting people to come in the Sikhi fold? Why the hinderence? Negativity and prejudism? If we can preach Punjabi and Punjabiyat etc and can be so ecstatic about it why are we allergic to preaching the most beautiful thing: Sikhi.....i doubt if that's a negative mindset. And prejudice ??? against whom??? I myself am Punjabi to the core but Sikh first and seriously i'v had enough of this Punjabi pride. I doubt there's much to be proud of Punjabiyat of today. BTW Guru Nanak dev ji and other gurus were also Punjabi.....did any of the patshahs brag about it? The reason i mentioned about Sikhisim was coz i wanted to cite an example of our typical lifestyle where Sikhi has taken a backseat and Punjabi's kind of become our identity. That guy picked up Punjabi from a Sikh family .....but he mentions a guy with Turban and Beard as a typical Punjabi, why not Sikh? names himself Karam Singh and even learnt Japji Sahib and yet no reference to Sikhi. Why everything Sikh is being classified as merely Punjabi. I am often upset when Punjabi singers often mention Sikh symbols and personalities as Punjabi. Jazzy B, Gurdas Mann, Manmohan Waris tc they all've done it and Kamal Heer went to extent of comparing sacred Kara with petty Challas and Mundris. Shame on these ignorant fools. You guys gotto realise Punjab's just a small province with a nice culture but Sikhi's universal. It's way of life and way way above these small terrotorial and national boundries. If at all 'Punjabi Pride' unites punjabis from different religions as u said, Sikhi unites people from all races, nationalities, cultures and religions and above all elimenates castes, which i doubt Punjabiyat does. So lets rise above this small territorial and cultural boundaries and think globally. I thought Sikhi blessed Punjab and took it into it's fold but it seems we are hell bent on proving vice versa.
  13. Wow !!!!!!! cool stuff.......buh we need to create Sikhs not Punjabis......it's a prime example how we've messed up sikhism big time. The guy does Japji Sahib and mentions turban and beard, even got a 'punjabi' name but hardly makes any reference to Sikhism, not his fault though...thats the way he's been brought up and taught and thats the way most of Sikh youth are being brought up, as punjabis first and as sikhs second. On a positive note .......that was really cool, lol even his english accent was that of a punjabi and not of a chinese of malaysian.
  14. I can understand your frustrations after breaking up with a guy for whom you care a lot and are watching his life on a serious decline and his family doing nothing about it. But it all depends on different individuals, and again individuals that constitute a family. For example i am from a Agriculturist famlily (jatt, if u like to call as a profession not as a caste) But my parents were the strictest in the world, i feel. Let alone for drugs, alcohol or anything i was usually reprimanded for merely hanging out with guys who didn't have high character as all my mates, and me of course were typical youngsters chasing girls and all that kind of stuff. I still remember how i nearly escaped a beating from my mother after a girl called at our landline (as i didnt have a mobile) and sought to talk to me. I had to be accountable for the time i spent outside home and also for pocket money i used to get from my parents. So there are different people and you just can't categorise. There a lots of Amritdhari or even decent jatts (by proffession) or punjabis and not as low as you stated. It's just a misfortune that you encountered a guy who and whose family frm what i can assume after what you stated about him is that didn't have a very high moral character. What you said about Punjab and Punjabis is partially true. Yes. it's a drug ridden state and those who drink do drink heavily, maybe coz punjabis are physically strong and can take in huge amounts of alcohol. Even once i asked my canadian chacha how can he drink so much everyday and he said first three shots are mere starters and the game starts afterwards. And mind you he only drinks spirits(whisky, vodkas, rum etc). not beers or wines coz he says they just don't act but in sharp contrast some other relatives are non- drinkers and strictly vegetearian, so it all differs on individuals. But i'd strongly argue and deny categorically what you went on to say after that. Maybe your research might have included a few bollywood flicks as well which have made us such stereotypes druggies ,thieves, cheaters, gangsters, wife beaters. By druggies if u mean merely taking drugs then it's fine but if you are comparing youth with typical shoplifter style druggies you are wrong coz most of the drug addictes youth are from well-off families and keep recreational drugs for self pleasure . And which research did help you conclude that they are thieves, cheaters, wife beaters and how many gurdwaras are there which serve free alcohol and where wannabe gangsters meet? Absolutely wrong. Thats a huge exaggeration of facts. As far as you said leaders not doing anything you are right. Our community is strongly under watchful eyes of Indian government, they just don't want community to be aware coz if Sikhs are aware then demand for a seperate state will always rise and india cant afford that at any cost. So their plan is to let punjab grapple with such kind of social evils and to help do that they are also distorting our history and destroying our culture. And they are doing that very effectively by controlling our politicians and religious institutions by installing puppets there who hardly do any good for community. People are fighting but problem is issues are massive and huge in number and people confronting them are very little and to add to that younger generation are flying abroad for greener pastures.
  15. Here's his blog: http://manvirsingh.blogspot.com/ It's actually written as 'Das' but it's correct pronunciation is "Da-as" which means slave. It's often used in Humility. It's come a lot of times in Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Usually Gurdwara managers in India use this word a lot for themselves calling themselves "Guru Panth Ke Daas".
  16. To me the text in first picture, resembles a lot to "Ik Onkaar" written in Gurmukhi Script which is the first word of Sikh Holy Scripture Guru Granth Sahib and it's translation is "1 God" But the second picture, although is much clearer but is upside down and complexes the matter the first picture i guess is more conclusive.
  17. Lol that's what i uttered from my mouth when the committee member gleefully reminded sangat of Rakhris....i sed "Fitte Mooh Tere"
  18. Congrats to Abhinav Bindra. A news report says that Bindra's father had organised Akhand Path a fortnight ago and the bhog ceremony was held yesterday, exactly at the time when Bindra fired his last shot. Here's the report and below's the link to medal presentation ceremony: http://www.tribuneindia.com/2008/20080812/main1.htm Chandigarh’s Abhinav shoots gold Defeats defending champion of China Prabhjot Singh Tribune News Service Beijing, August 11 Abhinav has done it. He has not only done shooting, Chandigarh, Punjab and India proud but also carved a name for himself in the history books by becoming the first ever individual to win an Olympic gold for India. I still remember the same event four years ago where Abhinav not only set aside the Olympic qualifying mark but also became the first ever India to qualify for the gold medal round in shooting. But that was not enough. It did not satiate his appetite for an Olympic medal. What a contrast between the two finals, the first in 2004 (Athens) and the second today in 2008(Beijing). Two of the contestants - Abhinav Bindra (India) and Chinan Zhu (China) figured prominently in both the events. In Athens, watching from the spectators stands among others were his parents and his sister. But today neither his parents and sister were there. I had the chance to witness both the finals. Abhinav of 2008 was totally different from one I had seen in action four years ago. Today he was all concentration and had only bulls eye to shoot. And he did it admirably well. In fact, in the qualifying rounds in Athens, Abhinav had shot well and looked a certainty for the country’s first ever Olympic medal. But his nerve of steel gave in the final shoot where his last of 10 rounds could get him a demoralising low score of 8.8. He finished a poor seventh in a field of eight finalists. It was a big disappointment not only for his father, Dr AS Bindra, besides others from the Indian contingent but also for Abhinav who had trained hard for the event. In fact, in between the qualifying round and the final, Dr Bindra exuberated with confidence and was hopeful that his son would win country’s first olympic medal in shooting. His optimism came from the score Abhinav had in the qualifying round. And today Abhinav did win, not the first shooting medal but the first individual gold medal since India made its debut in the Olympics in 1928. Only other individual of Indian parentage to win an Olympic gold has been Alexi Singh Grewal, the winner of the gruelling 192km road race in Los Angeles (1984) Olympic Games. But Alexi is US-born and had never been to India. Just a fortnight before the start of the Olympic Games, Abhinav’s father had decided to seek blessings of the almighty. He called me and wanted me to come with my friends in sports for the special ceremony- bhog of an akhand path at the Sector 8 gurdwara in Chandigarh. And the ceremony was held yesterday. Incidentally, the timing of the bhog ceremony and the final shot Abhinav fired at the target coincided. Perhaps heavenly blessings worked this time. For 26-year-old Abhinav, it was ‘shooting’ that mattered. “I have a fantastic feeling,” he said after winning the gold beating the previous champion Qinan Zhu of China. Qinan was disappointed for not ending his Olympic career with a gold in home Olympics. He wept at the post-event Press briefing. Today Abhinav was a picture of concentration as his last shot, that clinched gold, hit the bulls’eye getting him a superb 10.8 score. And this shot made the history. First to congratulate him was the Union Minister of State for Sports Manohar Singh Gill and the Secretary-General of Indian Olympic Association Randhir Singh. Abhinav had completed the task he had left incomplete at Athens four years ago. Incidentally, I am one of few journalists who have been by the arena side to see Indians winning individual medals since 1996 (Leander Paes in Atlanta), Malleshwari (2000, Sydney, weightlifting), Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (Athens, shooting, 2004) and today Abhinav Bindra (shooting, Beijing). Here's the video of the medal presentation ceremony: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GT42jMdgZo
  19. yeah that is a shamee cause all the punjabi people i know all go round each others houses to put Rakhris on..and then giv barfi n then giv money but i never really got thatt cause thats not religious or anything to do with our religion.although i admit once or twice i have placed rakhri on someone but only bcs i was in india or forced. "Forced" Rakhris........that was unheard of....lol
  20. Today after ardaas , as my Gurdwara's (Brent Sikh Centre) commitee member came up before microphone to deliver his usual weekly lecture i was taken aback when he specially reminded sangat of Rakhris falling on Saturday, tho the mentioned that it's not religious but cultural thing but why the heck we need to propogate these Brahmanical practices from our highest institutions i.e Gurdwaras instead of discouraging sangat from it especially youngsters at early age should be protected from influences of various cultures (mainly hindu and western) mixing up with their lifestyles. As if bollywood movies and indian media weren't enough to corrupt our society it seems Gurdwara Committees have taken it on themselves to completely get the job done- make us hindus. I doubt if we celebrate or even remember all our Gurpurabs, Shaheedi divas', Ghallugaras and other important dates like Battle of Saragarhi e.t.c but we hardly forget to celebrate the Rakhris and Lohris, incase we are not sure of the dates gurdwara commitee members are here to remind us. Shame !!!!!!
  21. Rakhri and the history or mythology behind it smacks of Brahmanical Ideology. I had sent clear directions to my sister not to send me any rakhri in 2006 she did even though i advised her not to. In 2007 she didn't though she was crossed wiv me and a bit upset. This year she's fine, she already knows what she gotto do- nothing. But i am happy, at least one brahmanical practice has been uprooted from our home. If we don't stop these manmat practices they form a chain and continue for generations and set precedents- afterall it's manmat- doesn't need any kamai. By performing these silly rituals not only are we encouraging brahmanism, deforming our own culture but also contradicting Sikhism. We don't need a hukamnama for every small thing. Anyone with reasonably good amount of knowledge on sikhi and gurbani can easily tell that it's Manmat. We hardly remember all our Gurpurabs, shaheedi divas' but Rakhris, Lohris we hardly forget and celebrate them with huge enthusiasm. What a shame !!!!!
  22. A few more of such letters to various directors personally will help a lot. And do open letters help? I mean will Vipul Shah read it at all? Won't a personal letter or an email serve the purpose amicably?
  23. Jasmit, I wish he turns out exactly as you said and lives up to those expectations of yours but as far as what i have heard about him yet, he's another Badal's crony, belongs to his home district and his all career has seen him rise due to 'blessings' of Mr. Badal from a sewadar to Jathedar Of Akal Takht. Why was Vedanti been forced to resign, coz he dared to go against rules set by badal....and would they install ant other humble Sikh instead of Vedanti? I guess No....it has to be a Badal confidant through whom Badal can employ his RSS agenda.
  24. Why dont you convert them ?? Why would they convert? Does anybody, especially in asian community has that rational mind to examine their faith and admit it's flawed. And in those guys' case they do worship their idols, believe in superstitions and stuff like that but are embarrased enough not to mention it coz Muslim mates are quite open in their beliefs and don't really like the Hindu stuff as few friendly debates have revealed. And to add to that Gujratis and Indian girls have also added a lot to their embarrasement.
