  1. Before the areas like Jagraon, Moga, down to Muktsar became rich farmland a large part of these area were desolate and covered with many sand dunes. It was referred to a Jangal Des. Only in the 1920s and after partition were many of these sand dunes removed and the land started to be extensively cultivated. Even in the 1970s I remember that sand dunes were removed from close to my village. When the area become rich farmland it lost the title of Jangal Des.
  2. The thing I admire about Deep Sidhu is that he is educated, articulate and able to formulate his argument without trying to be overtly condescending. Some of the words he uses especially the English ones might not be totally understandable by the average Punjabi but they understand the gist of his argument. With regard to Santji, Deep Sidhu when he was interviewed by that witch Barkha Dutt could so easily have played to her tune and dismissed her questions about Santji and just gone on to give his views about the andolan. BUT he chose to try and educate her, the fact that she is too pig headed to change her views on Santji does not matter, the fact is that even if 10% of her viewers were able to learn a few facts about Santji, I would class that as a victory. They got to know that an articulate intelligent guy like him supports Santji while all the time they are told that only violent extremist are his supporters. He was criticised heavily by people for that and they said that he lost a valuable opportunity to highlight the andolan, but personally I think he achieved 10 times more than he could have had he just talked about the andolan. I
  3. Depends if it is rural or urban settlers. As I stated above the vast majority of landholders from Lahore district were resettled in Ferozepur district. Out of a total of 341K acres allotted to landholders from Lahore 274K acres were allotted in Ferozepur district. Ludhiana got only a few thousand acres. This was mainly because Ludhiana had many colonialists who had moved to the canal colonies in the early 1900s and they were settled in their own villages and their losses were compensated by land left by the Muslims in nearby villages. Even though these colonialists had only left a few decades earlier from these villages, for many years they were still referred to a BAARIYE' meaning from the Bar which were how the wastelands were referred to prior to them becoming canal colonies. The only non-Ludhiana settlers they got were Rai Sikhs from Montgomery who were settled in the 'Bet' villages close to the Satluj river abandoned by the Muslims. Many urban Sikhs from Lahore itself settled in Ludhiana.
  4. Regions in Punjab were always delineated as the area between the rivers on either side. This is because people could travel and interact easily within this area and this create a common culture and language/dialect as travel across the rivers was difficult and not . There were smaller subregions which were a part of a main region such as the Jangal Des which was a part of Malwa region but crossed over into Rajasthan as well.
  5. This Jhota keeps becoming more and more irrelevant in Punjab with each comment he makes.
  6. You know what it took for Shaheed Beant Singh and Shaheed Satwant Singh to take our Indira Gandhi? It took their seeing for themselves what had happened at Durbar Sahib for them to finally go against the ingrained discipline to follow commands of their superiors that they had been subject to for many years. The first mutiny in Ganganagar started when some Sikh women went to the camp to deliver bangles to the Sikh soldiers as well as throw some pamphlets showing what had happened at the Durbar Sahib. The soldiers were sequestered in their camps and no news was allowed to reach them. We will never know how many soldiers were also ready to mutiny but over time the events overtook them because the recruits from Ramgarh in Bihar were overpowered and the ones from Ganganagar were captured after some gun battles in Punjab and many went over the border to Pakistan. A Pakistan invasion would have meant that the Sikh soldiers would have had to take positive action, either mutiny and fight the Indian army or fight with the Indian army against Pakistan.
  7. Don't be so naive. So you buy the propaganda that Gill got Jats to fight Jats and thus beat the Khalistan movement. No wonder you think the Pakistanis will allow the Hindus and Christians in Pakistan to become Sikhs and you call me idealistic. The only converts are one who were Sehajdharis anyway with a few who are lower castes who become Sikhs because they have seen Sikhs in Nankana Sahib. These Pakistanis did not even return the daughter of a Granthi of Nankana Sahib back to her family to gain the immense goodwill they would have got from us such is their mentality to gain converts to their religion. If 200 Million adherents is not enough for them that they have to target Sikh girls and you think they have goodwill for us.
  8. 5% but how many if Pakistan had invaded? Why do you think Modi has repealed the farm laws? because he was distressed that a few thousand farmers were having to camp on the borders of Delhi or because the Chinese are at the borders and 100K Sikh soldiers are on the front like facing them? If there were no Sikh soldiers in the Indian army and China was not on the borders these farm laws would never have been repealed.
  9. You obviously do not understand what the situation was like in Punjab in June 1984. and not try and compare it what happened between 1991-95 shows a deep ignorance. Kharkoo movement was crushed because they like you naively trusted the Pakistanis and thought that they were helping us to gain freedom. In 1984 the government was able to keep the media from reporting what the situation was like but it just took one report on the BBC about a small mutiny in Ganganagar by Sikhs soldiers for thousands of recruits to mutiny in far of Bihar and try and reach Punjab. What would haven been the effect on Sikh soldiers weighing up what action to take and then reports come in of a Pakistan invasion? I don't know why you call my percentage figure idealistic, it is not my issue that you are ignorant of how many Sikhs there were in the Indian army.
  10. The Jaats responding to Dabas videos have no political agenda. The Muslims swooning over Sikh pilgrims have a political agenda which includes having gullible Sikhs form of a buffer to defend the Indian Muslims from the Hindutvis and the continuation of the demographic jihad against Punjab.
  11. The Russians were bogged down in Afghanistan. Iranian revolution had not yet affected the Sunni-Shia relationship in Pakistan. You obviously have no understanding of just how difficult it is for an army to be fighting on the front like knowing that behind them is not a supportive population that they had in 1965 who had then risked their lives to send them food but a hostile population which hated them. Not only this the Indian army would not have been able to trust 25% of their men and these 25% would be men from the elite fighting units.
  12. Have you actually read any of the comments on this videos? How many are by Jaats supporting him and how many are by non-Jaats. I don't know how many were Jaats who were involved with supporting Jood but the fighting in Australia was presented as a Haryana Vs Punjab fight and as such we would expect some Jaats be be on the Haryana side. This Dabas guy is an anomaly, out of step with what is happening in the Jaat community now.
  13. Pakistan by 1984 had received massive amounts of military aid and was not a basket case militarily. 1971 was a two front war which Pakistan could never have won. In 1984, the Pakistan army would have had support from the Sikhs in Punjab as well as the very real possibility of a Sikh mutiny. In 1984 the Sikhs were at least 25% of the army and even now they are 10-12%. Only after the 1984 mutiny did the Indian govt lower the number of Sikhs in the army. Apart from the Sikhs in the army, there were tens of thousands of retired Sikhs from the army living in the villages of Punjab who had the military skills to create an insurgency in Punjab behind the Indian army's front line. If Zia's aim was to avenge the creation of Bangladesh he had the perfect opportunity in 1984.
  14. Vishal Jood is not a Jaat he is a Ror who variously claim to be Rajputs or descendants of the Maratha refugees from the battle of Panipat.
  15. The Pakistanis used us, even Zia Ul Haq because they could use our youth to bog down the Indian army in Punjab so that their dream of Kashmir joining their failed state could come true. To be honest if Zia Ul Huq was committed to helping us, he should have attacked Punjab either in June/July 1984 or October/November 1984. Our people would have risen up on both occasions but Zia Ul Huq was essentially a coward and his support was always lukewarm. His own family was kicked out of Jalandhar by Sikh Jathas in 1947 so perhaps it is too much to expect that he would have any sympathy with us. In June 1984 the Sikhs in the army mutinied and although these were new recruits, the fact of a Pakistan invasion would have made the Sikhs in the army think whether they want to fight for the country that had just massacred hundreds of innocent pilgrims in Durbar Sahib. If Pakistan had invaded it would have created an international situation which would have forced the world to intervene in the form of the UN.
  16. This is very true. There is no doubt there are Brahmgyanis but they do not go around trying to gain followers and misusing Gurbani to promote themselves. Anyone who claims to be Brahmgyani is certainly NOT a Brahmgyani. Because we misunderstand what a Brahmgyani is, we accept any Tom, <banned word filter activated> and Harry as a Brahmgyani just because they managed to gain a few gullible followers. This lax attitude will cost us dear in future as it is doing even now because these gullible followers are quite willing to think of their Baba as almost a god and are willing to do anything for their Baba. The rapist sadh has been able to gain thousands of followers because our concept of a Brahmgyani as being beyond criticism and that a Brahmgyani can do no wrong means that this fake can do any outrageous thing and his followers will rationalise his actions by giving it a mystical meaning.
  17. Remember the last time we 'used' Pakistan to help us, because we trusted Pakistan, all it took was Rajiv Gandhi charming that k.utti Benazir Bhutto and she gave all the info that the Pakistani state had on our movement's leadership and the police were able to eliminate the Kharkoo leadership at will. While we get a few concessions like a couple of Gurdwaras opened here and there in Pakistan, the ISI has used our goodwill to settle lakhs of Muslims in Punjab. Pakistan doesn't scare India anymore, it is a failed state and only survives financially on US aid and Chinese investment. We should be working with the Chinese instead because that it the biggest nightmare of the Indian state.
  18. A true activist is one who wants to bring change in the thinking of the people and not himself bend to their views. Sikh youth have been wearing Santji t-shirts openly in Punjab, they take a risk so does this mean that this comrade should refuse to accept Santji's photo just because it puts him at risk. If he is so scared then imagine if he become CM (totally impossible of course) but just imagine, then Indian govt could threaten him and he will do their bidding such is his weak will. Immense sewa, he run a medical facility from funds that the Panth and the diaspora sent him. How much of the money came from comrades? Using Panthic money he promoted his ideology. Even in his so-called Pind California he had photos solely of those these comrades claim as theirs.
  19. He is a typical pig headed comrade. He thinks he knows more about Guru Nanak and his teachings than Bhai Jagraj Singh. This is typical comrade thinking, only they know the truth and everyone else is ignorant. They are quite happy to subvert Guru Nanak's teachings and fit the Guru into their ideology. The comrades need a face that they can bring the gullible Sikhs to vote for and he is that face. Sonia Mann was unmasked as a comrade and she is pretty much in the dustbin so the comrades are promoting this guy. I would be surprised if he also doesn't come from a family that was active in helping the police and giving information about Kharkoos just as Sonia Mann's father did.
  20. This could be true to some respects. There are many stories told of Patel turning a blind eye as Home minster to the arming of the Sikh Jathas by the Sikh states and the use of their armies in clearing East Punjab of Muslims. He also blocked arresting Master Tara Singh when Mountbatten wanted the Indian govt to arrest him and other Sikh leaders. Later on after the partition there are stories told of how he expressed surprise at how many Sikh officers there were when he visited one of the army camps and he actively worked to reduce the number of Sikhs in the army. There is no doubt that the success that Sikhs had shown in clearing East Punjab scared the Indian govt and the Sikh migrations were seen as a threat to Delhi itself given how many Sikhs had migrated to the borders of Delhi. There was a MI5 report that was posted here a few years ago which predicted that the Sikhs would soon carve out a state of their now now that they had tasted success in clearing east Punjab of the Muslims. The pro-Muslim league governor of west Punjab Mudie even went as far as to warn Jinnah that an invasion of West Punjab was likely by Sikhs and that the Sikh migration was seen as an evacuation and that the Sikhs would return in force once they regrouped in East Punjab. There was open talk of a Sikh invasion of Lahore. “THIS MAY SOUND ALARMIST,” West Punjab Governor Sir Francis Mudie wrote to Jinnah, the passage marked out in boldface type, “BUT IF ANYONE SIX MONTHS AGO HAD PREDICTED WHAT THE SIKHS HAVE ACCOMPLISHED IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN LAUGHED TO SCORN. WE CAN AFFORD TO TAKE NO RISKS.” The Qadiani Zafarullah who represented Pakistan at the United Nations wanted a resolution against the Sikhs because of the 'genocide' of Muslims in East Punjab. There is no doubt that it would have suited the Indian govt to prevent Sikhs from obtaining a majority in many of the districts of East Punjab but the rehabilitation minister of East Punjab Sardar Ujjal Singh ensured that as many Sikhs from rural areas settled in East Punjab north of the Ghaggar river and Pepsu. There were claims by Hindus that this a conspiracy by the Sikhs but the rural Hindus who migrated from West Punjab were from areas further west like Multan, Muzaffargarh and Mianwali so their resettlement could be affected in Haryana area because they had no links with East Punjab but the rural Sikhs who were from west Punjab districts like Lahore, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala etc wanted to settle in the districts where they had relatives or links in terms of ethnic affinity. The Sikh Lobanas from Gujrat district settled almost en masse in Kapurthala area of Pepsu. There is anecdotal evidence of some Sikhs from Sheikhupura being allotted land in Saharanpur district and they not wanting to settle there and selling up and buying land among their brethren from Sheikhupura settled in Karnal district.
  21. I think Puadh is a British era concept, Punjab south of the Satluj was always Malwa down to where it borders Bangar Desh to the south (Hissar-Hansi-Jind) and Bhattiana (Sirsa -Hanumangarh in Rajasthan) to the south west. Malwa's borders were less defined towards Ambala - Kaithal.
  22. There is a tendency in our people now to blow hot air about how great the leader of their Jatha or organisation is. The usual .. Baba so and so did so much Bhagti..blah blah blah and so much Sewa.. blah blah blah. It's getting ridiculous. If they did so much then it can only mean that it just helped them or the followers are telling lies about what they did given what the state of the Panth is at the moment. The only Sant that did something and whose effect I have seen is Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. His effect on Punjab and the Panth between mid 70s and 1984 turned back the tide of liberalism and naxalism. This is why he is hated by the Comrades.
  23. The resettlement depended on what background the migrants were. If they were colonialist from the canal colonies of Lyallpur, Sargodha or Montgomery then they were resettled in their own home districts from which they had gone from to the canal colonies a few decades earlier. If the allotment of land abandoned by Muslims in their village was not enough then they would be allotted land as close as possible to their village. For non-colonialists, that is those who had lost their ancestral lands in west Punjab, they were resettled in east Punjab and PEPSU depending on which district they came from in Pakistan. For landholders from Lahore district which was a part of Majha there was no enough agricultural land abandoned by Muslims in Amritsar district to replace the land lost in Lahore, so they were resettled in Ferozepur district. Even the colonialists who had gone to the canal colonies from Amritsar originally, even their losses could not be compensated in Amritsar such as the lack of land abandoned by Muslims, they were resettled in Ferozpur, Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar. Landholders from Gujranwala and Sheikhupura were resettled in Karnal and PEPSU (Patiala and East Punjab States Union) . From Shahpur and Gujrat went to Ambala. From Multan to Hissar. Jhang and Mianwali to Rohtak. Dera Ghazi Khan and Mianwali to Gurgaon. From Sialkot to Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur. The compensation that these landholders received was restricted because they lost 6.7 million acres and there were only 4.7 million available. So graded cuts were made. If someone lost up to 10 acres they got 75% compensation, if between 10-30 acres they got 70%, 40 - 60 acres got 60%. All the way up to those who lost 500-1000 acres they only got 5-10% compensation. So if someone lost 10 acres they got 7.5 acres as compensation but if they lost 1000 acres they only got a maximum of 127 acres.
  24. I think this is one thing that these starry eyed kids who never lived through 1984 fail to understand. That single act by Santa Singh and the others did more to divide Sikhs at a time when what the Panth needed was unity. Santa and the others allowed themselves to be used by our enemies and their acts are no different to what Ala Singh did not accepting Abdali as his overlord. There is no doubt some deal was done so that Santa Singh and the others could undergo token Tankhah and the SGPC to retain their credibility. Maybe these people think that their GADDARI is automatically forgiven in the next world just because a deal with done in this world. Personally I think they would have got quite a surprise when the time came/ will come for them to justify their actions before Akal Purkh.
  25. This is the Quality over Quantity BS that we have been happy to lazily espouse while the rest of the world increases around us and our population remains stagnant. Our population only increased when we achieved political power, this is always the main way that religions become dominant. The Christians were small communities around the Roman world for hundreds of years fighting over minor details between each other until Constantine made Christianity the religion of the Roman empire. The latest research shows that Islam did not create the Arab empire, it was the Arab empire which created Islam in order to have a state religion. Religions increase either by achieving state power or by having a strategy of having more children if they do not have state power. Even before democracy, the religion achieving greater numbers would be able to gain some advantage from the ones in power if not of that religion would out of necessity have to give concession to the religion of the majority of their populace. Having lots of children is not pointless as you say. If you are unable to pass on your religion to four children then you will be unable to pass your religion on to one child. You make sure that the eldest children that get the most of your time when they are young and they will automatically influence the younger ones. Your views show that you do not have a clue about family dynamics and if your type is the dominant type in the Panth today and hold the same BS views about Quality over Quantity our future is more precarious than I thought it was,
